- Andrew MacLean joins me to talk about one of his favorite books, Cat-Eyed Boy by Kazuo Umezz. This book is full of left turns in the best way. We follow our protagonist, a Yokai who has no place amongst humans or his own kind, as he hides in people's attics and watches grotesque stories unfold in the lives of their inhabitants.

Sam Kusek! FromBoom, good buddy of mine. He got me to do a drawing of this too. But back to Blood Meridian it is brutal as hell. I get putting it down, it does build to a great ending though. But it and the novel Painted Bird took me to my limit where they almost made brutality boring because it never stops.
Yeah, I don’t usually find myself affected by things like that. But the combo of ingesting two bleak and ultraviolent things at the same time really altered my mood. I’m truly glad to have found this weird masterpiece, though.
