This is a beautiful song, from my favourite album of 2012. Why do some people rail against beautiful music? Let this album into your life and take it over for a while.
This is the fourth time I've listened to this today.Heard it today onradio2. I'm a lapsed teenage fanclub fan, maybe that explains why I love it so much
But this sort of music isn't the type to 'take risks' with... It's a genre of music that is timeless and admired for its simplicity and beautifully melodic sheen. If I want more angular and 'out there' pop I'll go listen to it, but there's something to be said for music that just simply grabs you and wraps its sound around you when you need it... No one ever said Teenage Fanclub (or this) was breaking new ground. Have you ever listened to any Big Star records..? Same sort of thing.
I was throughly shocked that the pretentious assholes at Pitchfork actually gave this a 7.5, although it's a fucking 9.5 in my book. Of course, they had to take a knock at Teenage Fanclub by saying that they only reasons they're still relevant is because of Pains of Being Pure At Heart and Yuck, giving them a boost in interest. I'd like to remind you folks that this is the site that rails agains Nada Surf, one of the best power-pop bands in the last 15 years, every time they release an album.
I agree that Teenage Fanclub haven't had a really great album of the last so many years. I happen to think since 2000 with Howdy! but how many bands can say they had 5 consecutive albums which are just really gr8 records. Not to mention a brilliant cover band and blessed with amazing singles and B-Side songs, not 2 many bands! i. Bandwagonesque (1991) ii. Thirteen (1993) Okay the Press badly hated that one!! iii. Grand Prix (1995) iv. Songs from Northern Britain (1997) v. Howdy! (2000)
I can't wait until you write the next greatest rock song. Maybe you should do that instead of this incessant negative energy you're releasing onto the internet.
Uh.. this isn't TFC... is is Gerry's side project and pretty good. Anyways, I disagree with on the TFC thing..they have some AMAZING songwriting...try listening to them rather than getting so critical. I came to them late un the day and love them!
Well obviously those Big Star records are pure excellence. But I'd easily argue back though that Teenage Fanclub's first 2 or 3 albums had 'rockier' tunes that were brilliantly written as well. Do you think Big Star would have been writing the same sort of 'rocking' material 25 years on in their careers after their first 2 landmark albums...? No, they wouldn't be... Never mind, you're not understanding my many different (above) points anyways... Another pointless UA-cam conversation.
please give songwriters some respect with their artistic decisions, that "risk" and comparison comments are prove that some people treat musicians an entertainer for their (i'm pretty sure) boring life.
i kind of agree with both of you.... belle and sebastian get away with this because their lyrics are funny, intelligent and self effacing but this is a bit bland.
TFC have been atrocious since their last great album "Songs From Northern Britain". They're one of the laziest bands in the UK. An album every four years, consisting of four songs each. You should be able to write a decent tune if you have one full year to do it !
This is what we need. My god, what a great artist.
No matter how bad the day is, Gerry Love always brightens.. This is sublime and beautiful
One of the most perfect songs I've heard in years. A long, warm hug in the form of music.

Gerard's a pop genius - fact.
Can’t believe I’m only discovering this song now. Mind-glowingly great.
DON'T WORRY ))
This record is so sweet and beautiful
oh, wow! i could live inside of this song forever.
Absolutely lovely
I was broken up inside.
An empty heart, a lonely ghost.
I sensed a magic in her.
I'm sensing magic in her.
This blew me away...
superb stuff. a whole album of gerry's tunes... now that's something worth getting excited about.
What's one man's rubbish is another man's treasure....I'd love to hear your songs BTW. I guess they are amazing.
Such a lovely song.
Gerard writes songs for Those who are the most ambitious for solitude in the afterlife.
What a gift
What a beauty music¡
God bless you Gerry, I don't even believe in god, but, you get me. Your music IS godlike to me.

ace. grreat tune and video. gerry at his enigmatic best. positive vibes all round.
A whole album of Gerard's tune? Yes please...
we love lightships.

Agree with you on 'Songs' being their last truly great album ;)
Great!!
Very pretty and dreamy! :)
Good Album
this song, reminds me of 2012!

I've heard of Teenage Fanclub.. never heard of Pitchfork!
Reminds of Honeybunch. Light and airy. Just in time for spring.
Summer's coming kid's!
Wau!!!
@troidt1 Nice spotting, Tom. Looks like some Washington Park in there too. What's up with that?
2024!!!!
ótima música. Nota 10.

0:06 he looks like #johnymars band..🤣🤣
why no sound?

lol.. Some people will find it boring. I used to be the one, but now i begin to like this kind of music.
howdy and shadows are tfc classic albums.

@HDHomage Seaham, Tyne & Wear.
it's 2024, anybody have this lyrics?
0:05 He looks like Nicolas Sarkozy

- You really have no clue about music, do you... 'twee'..? 'risk free'...? Absolutely hilarious.
Davebest2001, bullying it up on the internet. Go away.
The director of this video loves lens flare. Me too.
Belle and Sebastian have improved a lot since they started to take more risks. I wish Tweenage Fanclub would do the same
My mama used to say "it's important to speak your mind, and not be a nodding dog"
The truth hurts
Big Star's first two albums were much rockier and had tunes than anything by Teenage Fanclub or Mr Love
I do have a clue. It is identical to the usual unimaginative Teenage Fanclub sound. No risks taken EVER. The same song over and over and over again
i kind of agree with both of you.... belle and sebastian get away with this because their lyrics are funny, intelligent and self effacing but this is a bit bland.
I've plenty at home you'd probably enjoy. Better than Love's latest twee efforts
I'm not a songwriter. Love is not showing that ability anymore either
Dross. Tone poems with mumbled lyrics and questionable musicianship

Still doesn't take away from the fact that this is rubbish. The same chords and sound as TFC. Supemarket music. Twee. Repetitive
