Marc Bolan was huge in the UK during the 1970s. I first became aware of Bolan because my mum was a fan, she had a sticker of Marc on the glovebox of her car. He sadly died in a car crash.👍
The androgynous greatness of the pocket rocket that was Marc Bolan! Good to see the backing singers so high on, er....life! This will probably be early 70's as he was killed I a car crash in 77. They also did Children of the Revolution and Ride a White Swan 🤗
Electric Warrior was arguably the first classic rock album I ever bought back in 1971! A must have album for any true Marc Bolan and T.Rex fan. Bowie, Cooper and say Elton John take a lot of the plaudits for the greatness of the 70's but Bolan was the real deal and deserves as much if not more credit in my opinion. My first real Rock hero.
T Rex were one of the biggest UK bands of the early 70s with a string of hits. They'd been more of an experimental psychedelic rock band in the 60s under the name Tyrannosaurus Rex but discovered the joy of having chart hits !
@@DerekDerekDerekDerekDerekDerek No more so than bands like Slade who had plenty of singles chart success, not bigger than Purple, Zep, Floyd, The Stones and so on.
The production of T Rex at that time was powerful and stands up today... The Electric Warrior and Slider albums are classics and should be played loud for full effect... Nobody looked like him, sounded like them, with a unique guitar sound ... Influence on many famous artists..
For more early '70s British Glam Rock check out early David Bowie, Sweet, Slade, Mud, Roxy Music (but NOT Gary Glitter!) . It was a fad thing in the UK at that time, T-Rex were one of the first
T.Rex were part of a subgenre of rock in the UK called Glam Rock, it included artists like, Sweet, Mud, Mott The Hoople, Suzie Quatro, Slade, Slik, and early David Bowie and Roxy Music, listen to any of those Artists and you are in for a great time but my recommendation would be to start with either Cuz I Luv You by Slade or Blockbuster by Sweet
Suzie Quatro, Susan Kay Quatro[1] (born June 3, 1950)[2] is an American singer, bass guitarist and songwriter. In the 1970s, she scored a string of hit singles that found greater success in Europe and Australia than in her homeland, reaching No. 1 in the UK, other European countries and Australia with her singles "Can the Can" (1973) and "Devil Gate Drive" (1974). wiki.
@barriehull7076 spot on although she was from America her producer was British and she moved to ths UK in 1971, her producer was Mickie Most, he also produced records for The Animals, Donovan and Jeff Beck. She had a very unique sound being a bass player and lead vocals, a female Lemmy Kilmister if you will.
Tyrannosaurus Rex before they cut it to TRex were on at Manchester University. Sad he died in his mini The good old days. Roxy Music I'm in with the in Crowd could be Daniels theme music 😂 Slave to love,Avalon,Jealous Guy - one sexy dude
@cathyb46 yeah they were Tyrannosaurus Rex when they released their first record Debora but I think they thought it was too long to catch on, if you've not heard it please take a listen to In Every Dream Home a Heartache by Roxy Music it is immense
Better as a studio track in my opinion, the scuttlebutt at the time it was about smoking opium, what can I say he was definitely naughty as I remember. Still love the song, hopeless lifelong 'pop' fan.
Im glad you stuck with this version of quite likely the greatest rock and roll performance of all time!! at the end the crowd didnt know whether to stand up and clap or stand up and run for the exits!
Gawd, I live near the tree his stupid girlfriend drove into, makes me pissed off every time I go past. And there’s the silly moo on terrible backing vc. Anyhoo, get a T rex greatest hits, can’t go wrong, every one’s a banger.
This song is highly influenced by Chuck Berry's Little Queenie. Marc Bolan acknowledges this during the performance as near the end he makes a direct quote from Chuck Berry's song ''Meanwhile, I'm still thinking.''
Let me tune you into Frankie Miller who wrote all these song by artists you’ll know, Frankie in his day was as hard as nails and fearsome, play the part as the hard man in a few Scottish movie’s, if he didn’t have a solid alibi he would had been charged with his best friend: cousin Jimmy Boyle with a murder. 1971 Bolan was just too way ahead of his time. All the metal heads and glam that came after owe everything to Bolan. think Bowie, Kiss, Prince, Guns n roses etc etc - the most influential artist ever IMO.
Can safely say the audience got their money's worth there. As did Noel "copy and paste" Gallagher when he stole that song to make Cigarettes and Alcohol. Love it
You MUST review a beautiful run of three T.Rex songs...There Was a Time/Raw Ramp/Bolan Boogie. Mark was not the greatest guitarist in the world, but his efforts with these three tunes are outstanding. He was best when he stuck with pentatonic blues runs.
I remember Marc Bolan (lead singer) & T Rex , just superb at the time!! There is another video of this which is a LOT better, same song!! Sadly Marc Bolan died in a car crash 2 weeks before his birthday, would have been 30. The band were exceptional in that era & shall never forget them!!
Marc Bolan was 20 years ahead of his time unfortunately he died on his 29 birthday in a car accident Marc's girlfriend Gloria Jones was driving but she was injured in the accident. Gloria Jones was a keyboardist and vocalist for T-Rex
They were crazy and sloppy live so have to play the record version. I have loved since first heard in 74’ . Listen to twentieth century boy, jeepster, hot love.
Dire Straits Sultans of Swing At The Alchemy probably the best thing you will see as a one off song performance please not just for me but more important for yourself. was not aware you had not gone down the rock road
Not one of their best videos, and it doesn't give full credence to the song. There is a better video out there. It was a kick ass song when I was a Junior in high school in 1971, and it is still today in 2023. BANG A GONG, GET IT ON!!!

Worst version of this song, in my opinion. The screeching background vocals just ruined it. I especially like the Top of the Pops version. With Elton John playing air piano. And the cute British girls dancing. 😆
That's is not a great version of that song to introduce new people to. Fans from years ago would like it, but you're not getting new fans with that. I can say this as a T-rex fan from my first single Hot Love that I stole out of my mothers record collection back in about 1971.
Yes!!!!!! My absolute fave band of all time, adore Marc Bolan 🌟
Glam rock from back in the day! Stoked to see you checking this out today! Next...New York Dolls!
Holy crap, I never heard the lead on this song before. So glad I saw this. Awesome performance
I remember being a wee boy about 8 yrs old and listening to T-Rex playing Ride a white Swan, and being baffled 😂😂
Marc Bolan was huge in the UK during the 1970s.
I first became aware of Bolan because my mum was a fan, she had a sticker of Marc on the glovebox of her car.
He sadly died in a car crash.👍
Music from 1971 still impressing people today. Marc died exactly one month after Elvis Presley in 1977 aged 29 in a car crash.

Bought the album when it came out. Well, a few weeks after it came out, my paper round didn't pay that good!
Even TV shows kicked ass back in the day 🔥🎸❤️

This performance is the essence of a live and theatric performance. Bolan was so good!
So happy u didn't change the video

I like that you can tell just his guitar volume on stage was extremely loud...
This song became a hit again in the 80's when Power Station covered it.

Love your reaction!! A lot of so called T. Rex fans find this performance too much to take. I love it! Thanks for your cool reaction 😎
There's a lot of extra drugs accompanying this performance 😁😁
There are clearer live performances available though.

Love Bolan, hadn't seen this before, great! Not really ever known for his guitar playing ability but always entertaining. Try " ride a white swan"
