Sound advice. Twenty something years ago, when I enlisted, I talked to a college buddy who had been in for two years. I brought over a listed of MOSs I was qualified for and we went down the list and talked about the "Ins" and "Outs" of each job. I settled on the 0400 Field (Logistics) and ended up becoming an Embarkation Specialist (0431). I was very content with the job for my entire enlistment and had no regrets. Like you said, MOS selection is a key factor to shaping your military career. Good luck with the remainder of your training. Semper Fi.

Your videos are helpful for sure.! There’s so many MOS Out there & I’m soo indecisive when it comes to making decisions. I just know that when It comes down to it I definitely won’t let my recruiter choose for me. I’ve got about 2 years left till I’m able to join. Depending on the complexity of the MOS you can fail one test and they can drop you out of the MOS. The best thought is talk to someone who has done the job and what is involved. If you have a high enough score you can sign for the MOS you want if there is slots and meet the requirements to get in it.

For some people they WANT to do a job where you don't have to have a high score on your ASVAB, that's a valid choice of theirs. I knew a guy who got 99 on his ASVAB and he chose to go infantry because that was the adventure he wanted. Motor T is a great job because it translates great to the civilian world once you get out as a mechanic where you can make a great living.
Annony Mouse no shit lol😂 I’m just givin it to them straight and what normally happens. I know a lot of people with decent asvab scores that chose the infantry it depends on the person. I didn’t hit EVERYTHING in this video good lord
Savannah, please don't be so defensive when people make comments. My comments wasn't angry or aggressive, it was just an addition to your video because some young people don't think further than a year out in their lives. I was an avionics guy on hueys and cobras (at the same place you are at now) and went with that job because I THOUGHT it wa something that would translate to a decent civilian job when I got out. Problem was that after 5 years of the same stuff, I was no longer interested in that kind of work. You are a pretty girl and you are new enough that you are super motivated about being a Marine and that is awesome! I realize that based on your past experience that you may be suspicious of people but just tone down the defensive stuff when people make general, non-threatening or insulting comments or observations, not everyone is out to get you.
I got AFQT 62 but my line scores were all like 110 or higher so I qualified for almost all jobs. My recruiter showed me a list of about 10 jobs open and told me to pick and the only descent one was MOS 1316 “metalworker” plus it transfers after so I think it’s a good choice lol

I also got a 96 on the asvab and I was thinking of signing for aircrew, and I would like to know what made you choose aviation ordinance instead of your earlier choice of aircrew?
Quick question: I scored a 93 on the asvab so all jobs are available for me,I believe. It is my understanding that you are able to choose your "job field." I am interested in 3 jobs, all of which are under the 18xx field. Will I be able to choose this field and be guaranteed 1812, 1833 or 1834 or will I have to enlist under "combat support" and have to consider Artillery as an option too? Thanks!
My son completed MEPS but the job thing wasn't discussed until after swearing in. His recruiter sat down with him later and no particular MOS, just areas. He had to choose 3 areas. One was ground electronics. He wants avionics/aircraft electronics. His ASVAB was 93. I don't understand why the jobs weren't discussed until after MEPS.
How is the aviation world in the marines? I was looking at Aviation Electronics Tech. and I've been very curious about being in the aviation field. I came from infantry in the army and I'm just trying to get an insight on different jobs and different fields in the Marine Corps.
My recruiter is trying to ship me out quick and I feel pressured he’s already setting me up with the real asvab and trying to send me to meps but I honestly would like to work as an air winger any advice on how to handle that
That’s what I am trying to do right now I made a 47 on the ASVAB and I am scared to take it again so I am just accepting this score for now I am a senior in high school by the way and I don’t really have a lot of options I mostly got the business aspect of the marines like desk top work and I really am interested in the admiration side of it but I am still trying to choose what type of administrator I want to be
Savannah Glembin Thanks! P.S. you're such an inspiration for me. I'm going into high school and I've already mentally made the decision to join the Marines. I hope I do, and I know that it will take a lot of work.
Someone told me that the marines only let you pick the top 3 jobs that interest you and then your performance at parris island determines what job you qualify for. Is this true or does it vary from job to job?
There is a finance mos, just go look it up but it might not be what you really think it is so do research. Its a really small MOS though so it might not be open when you want to enlist.
If you enlist as active duty you can pick the first two numbers of the mos so basically the field, like you can sign as infantry but not machine gunner and could revive anything in the infantry. If you enlist into the reserves you can pick the exact specific job. If you complete ocs you have almost no choice unless you were a marine prior to completing ocs
