Love these DIY vids. I do concrete for work. Adding water to the cracks will help not only clean the existing concrete for a better bond but will also keep the ground in the crack from pulling moisture, which helps it not set too fast and crack. Good stuff man!!
Zack, I don't know if you realize that you've unknowingly created a sub-genre of Skateboarding (spot making) and Binaural ASMR. Your videos are relaxing as fuck. Listening to someone go through internal dialogue and explain what and why they're doing something a certain way is ultimately very satisfying to watch and listen to. Keep it up.
I built A ramp for my daughter because of your videos and sit at parks wondering how to make them better or fix bits that need repairing, whilst she is learning to rip up the Uk southwest parks.
Dude, so cool you are doing this. I think sometimes discovering these spots and making them ridable is half the fun. Did this when I was in my teens with other skate buddies. Now I do it for new rock climbing areas in San Diego. Thanks for taking us along Zack. Enjoy your spot. You earned it.
Natural progression for aging skateboarders is either MTB, Surfing, or Climbing. Still get the adrenaline/ dopamine that normal sports don’t give you, with less constant impact. See you at the crag🤙🏽
I'm always so jazzed when one of these videos pop up in the feed. I've been churning through your archive and I'm loving it. It's honestly taken a lot of the intimidation/fear out of concrete work.
These videos are some of my favorite on UA-cam right now, looks like you could use a filmer or a buddy to lend a hand and take some of the labor off of yourself!
That's the part of the community that actually sucks in my book, same homies probably drinking up there and smashing there bottles and leaving there trash. 🤞🤞I'm talking shit and there cool, but normally its 50/50.
You are trying to join two surfaces without using water, and that is the problem, it is essential that the surface where you apply the mortar is very moist, the water eliminates the dust and makes your mortar enter the pores of the surface, you will save on effort, material, money, time, listen to me, moisten the surfaces before applying mortar, if you use a wet sponge for the final finish then you already leave it fine. a hug from Basque territory
Man, I love your DIY builds. Not only does the skating look great, but just seeing the adventure of the build makes me feel like a kid again looking for wood scraps and places to skate. My son and I skated a DIY spot in Statesville NC a couple of weeks ago and it was a blast. After watching your videos I have a new appreciation of the amount of work it takes. You need to find some homies with a truck!
it's crazy a few weeks ago i didn't knew about your channel and now it's my top 3 favorite one. always so stoked to see stuff from you. really great personality and quality build / skate content.
Thanks for the great videos! If you're worried about the wildlife, be as loud as you can. not quiet. But obviously you might need quiet if there are houses anywhere nearby.
I haven’t been on UA-cam in a while. Came back to revisit Zach’s channel after being gone for about 3 months. And holy smokes, this guy has seriously improved as a content creator so much. The post commentary, the music choice, the camera work. Bro has seriously evolved so much and I’m so stoked to see his progress
This looks sick, but also this spot looks like it was originally something like a storm water storage tank, so I'd recommend being careful around this spot if there is any rain forcasted, just so you make sure you don't get stuck in a flash flood
bro i just found ur videos a couple months ago and the DIY is such a good series it keeps me here. thank you for helping out the community with ur time and money. a go fund me for t he new spot would be dope since this ones most likely to not get touched by the city.
Get some kind of little wire fence. Cut a section out so you have 4 inch “legs” sticking out top and bottom. Drill holes spaced like wire fence. Insert wires into holes, concrete over it. Has a rebar effect and holds together and in place.
i have been searching for spots like this to go and renovate for skating for me and friends seems so sick and the feeling of skating your own diy park has to feel great. wonderful vid keep working
I thought what about a driveway scraper that gets weeds out deep enough to block the weeds from growing back. Also two trash bags one inside the other for the loose concrete and bag it up outside on the pallet. Great video and spot.
Watching you fall gave me a small heart attack thinking about your recent hand injury! Spot is looking rad. Also very cool to see you in the comments for the Gaza Skate Team!❤❤❤
I was gonna say a few videos back that you should get some cheap little pickup. I had a Ranger years ago. It was good. I made a wooden front bumper for it.
Why not use a wheelbarrow? You could put all the cement bags and supplies in it to get there, then use it to remove all the dirt and material, plus you can use the wheelbarrow to mix your cement
Awesome work as always. Its so satifying to my ADD brain to take something that sounds inpossible and break it down in to small manaagable chunks. Are you done working at the old spot, or are you doing work on both? I feel like this spot has a lot of potential
I noticed right around @12:00 you mentioned you were grabbing the "magnesium trowel". Why the need for different trowels? Thanks for the inspiration homie, trying to get my own builds going on around town!
Next time you're in Portland I'll show you the wall ride I fixed up. I did it at night and had to watch out for other types of animals that walked up on me. Turned out alright too
Those homies who came out day 2 should have come out to help you on day 1! Hope you can find some solid guys and gals to help you out in the future. P.s. This is the first video I've watched, was served to me on my side bar. Subscribed!
Woohoo what a spot, thanks Zack you're like a skate Indiana Jones, i wish id visit America one day and skate there, you guys got so many insane spots. Great video, well done ✅
I’m sure you’re probably already aware but the bondo to hardener ratio is 50:1, the less hardener you use the stronger the end product. Also in heat like California it’s important not to add too much hardener. Less is more, it’ll give you a decent window of work time instead of kicking/flashing early.
SASQUATCH !!! homie, next time bring a deck for the hairy man/girl, you might end up on Dave Paulidies' Missing 411' ,thats a mad ass effort dude awesome work
are you using varnish/clear lack or what is it called? at 18:58 Im glad i found your channel im trying to building my own spot aswell atm. greetings from Germany

Thank you! No plans on stopping. ❤
yeah this really is a new genre, i haven't skated in like 20 years but i used to build stuff to skate on all the time when i was young. good content
I built A ramp for my daughter because of your videos and sit at parks wondering how to make them better or fix bits that need repairing, whilst she is learning to rip up the Uk southwest parks.

Zack DowDIY is back ❤. Saving this for coffee tomorrow morning.
Nobody else is willing to make the trek to build, next day 5 homies show up to skate 😅
Exactly
That's the part of the community that actually sucks in my book, same homies probably drinking up there and smashing there bottles and leaving there trash. 🤞🤞I'm talking shit and there cool, but normally its 50/50.
I was looking for this comment! "Homies"....That's the Cali mindset though; take take take, but don't give smh
I was gonna say the same thing 😂😂
Real

concrete finisher here, & I approve of this message ^ 😄

Keeping San Diego classy one DIY at a time
Oh shit I didn’t realize this was SD?! What part???
@@WestHaddnin the part thats in california
@@realbosstakea lol OP is asking what part of San Deigo its in....San Diego is a pretty big area. More than just the city.
@@WestHaddnin looks like north county somewhere. Or east county.
@@RandoWisLuL shut up boy
This was so enjoyable to watch. I love how you share what you'd do differently & also how you fix things
That’s the thing about skateboarding and being a skater it’s all about the mission, huge props for this 🔥
You are appreciated my dude. Awesome of you to do this even though others didn't or couldn't throw in some sweat with you. You da man 🎉
Knowing you did this years ago at the same spot with a good friend made this video much better! Great work, great video and have fun skating it! 👍🏼

i was thinkin the same thing! also it was probably just a deer
Zach I've watch a lot of your DIY stuff. This is by far the best spot by far. Wish I could find something like that here in the Midwest.
I haven’t been on UA-cam in a while. Came back to revisit Zach’s channel after being gone for about 3 months. And holy smokes, this guy has seriously improved as a content creator so much. This is legit the type of person I’d be around. Wish we can build sumn cool in the future.
I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS VIDEO. IT IS VERY CREATIVE AND TRULY AMAZING DUDE. AWESOME WORK.
Hats off to you my friend for haulin' all those supplies up the mountain
bro i just found ur videos a couple months ago and the DIY is such a good series it keeps me here. thank you for helping out the community with ur time and money. a go fund me for t he new spot would be dope since this ones most likely to not get touched by the city.
I deliver those water jugs for work. Climbing a mountain with one is crazy 🤘🤘 nice work
Man, it looks blisteringly hot there. An Irish man like myself wouldn't last 20 mins out there. Great content, bro...❤❤❤❤
If this was in Brazil, i would certainly help ! Great mission giving life to a abbadon cool place, congrats. One more subscriber

having some kinda brush to clean up dust really helps and doesn't weight you down. garden clippers that let you cut branches also great
Drill holes in existing concrete, hammer metal into it with several inches sticking out for new concrete to bond to

Great video and spot.
I like how he says he's doing it alone, yet he said, "Getting OUR supplies up here was the hardest part." Regardless, it's still a badass little spot!
It's a general term when talking into the camera 😂
@@FalseNi9e You're right it is. But is that what's happening here, or an unconscious slip up?
Watching you fall gave me a small heart attack thinking about your recent hand injury! Spot is looking rad. Also very cool to see you in the comments for the Gaza Skate Team!❤❤❤
This is such classic roots skater sh*t. I love it You're a G
Zack you’re a god, these videos are so fire
Man, If I was in America, I'll had help you with this. Congrats for your decision to make this place happen. It sounds sick and funny skate there.
Love it! Cali life baby! So down to meet upthere and skate!!!!!!!!
I was gonna say a few videos back that you should get some cheap little pickup. I had a Ranger years ago. It was good. I made a wooden front bumper for it.
Goals!
Still my favorite series!! _DIY MASTER_
Amazing idea 🤘
HELLUVA SPOT!! You're the man Zack
Your the "DOTA" Do It Yourselfer Of The Year!

Are you done working at the old spot, or are you doing work on both? I feel like this spot has a lot of potential
You the man. Love what your doing
I love what you do Dowdy! And BTW def need to get yourself an old toyota pickup to take to the spots and pick up that cheap crete
cool spot nice wok i also like the music choice lets get more like that im a fan of the old westerns
This is straight up my alley.
Sick looking spot. Theirs some wild throwies and pieces their
Great video Zack!
awesome work as always!
Well done you. DIY rules!
Sick spot man you're amazing.
out there livin life!
bro is working his but off for us and only has 66k subs, this man needs deserves🔥🔥
any reason for going the long way vs the short way? seems like you'd have to push less
Short way doesn't get enough speed, pushing between both banks and setting up would make it more difficult.
This is so cool! Just forgot I was getting g ready an interview tho 😭
That spot looks like it has tons of potential, probably pretty hard getting stuff up there to build though.
I noticed right around @12:00 you mentioned you were grabbing the "magnesium trowel". Why the need for different trowels? Thanks for the inspiration homie, trying to get my own builds going on around town!
Enjoying the spaghetti western soundtrack 👌
Amazing work. Sick spot
Congrats, you nailed the thumbnail exactly, couldn’t even tell the difference.
You're the Bob Ross of developing natural skatepark with giant pallette knife and paint brush.
Gotta love Aqua Ducts 🤘
super cool! We'd ride our motorcycles in ditches just like that off the Ridge Route. I'd love to skate that!
brother.. get a hand dolly and set it up with some off riad tires and hook some lump straps up and cart the materials down.. rock on!! peace
dang, there used to be a second more accessible one. however they have built over it. we did a bench, and a hitching post at that one!
Love this! I’d love to help build something like this. So cool
Sickkk 🤘
That's how the pros do it 💥🤙
Get a garden sprayer with a tank for the water. Transporting that water would be hard so you dont want to waste it
Next time you're in Portland I'll show you the wall ride I fixed up. I did it at night and had to watch out for other types of animals that walked up on me. Turned out alright too
Would love to check that out, nice work!
Cool video. Try using ardex. We used it a bunch at burnside over the years and it works well.
Tons of potential at this spot
Those homies who came out day 2 should have come out to help you on day 1! Hope you can find some solid guys and gals to help you out in the future.
P.s. This is the first video I've watched, was served to me on my side bar. Subscribed!
Damn, so relaxing!
This is rad, you definitely should make that spot look awesome and like a legit park set up, bring a few rails for flats
So cool❤❤❤❤❤🎉
Goid work. At first i thought you were gonna smooth the entire spot
Fabulous 🎅
Sick. New spot unlocked
Woohoo what a spot, thanks Zack you're like a skate Indiana Jones, i wish id visit America one day and skate there, you guys got so many insane spots.
Great video, well done ✅
ALL da homies show up once the work is done LOL.... I feel it brotha ahahahahah
5 sec in i already love your mission 👍
have you ever tried using a sponge to help with finishing?
nobody shows up to help build but once its ready to skate everyone shows up. sounds about right. lol
I’m sure you’re probably already aware but the bondo to hardener ratio is 50:1, the less hardener you use the stronger the end product. Also in heat like California it’s important not to add too much hardener. Less is more, it’ll give you a decent window of work time instead of kicking/flashing early.
Mans is a wilderness explorer too. 😂❤
skaters all think alike ....some do more!!!...keep up the fire!....proper inspiration!!!
wet sponge at the end will make it nice and smooth :)
he says in the vid, wish i brung a sponge lol what's diy without a little roughness lmao
SASQUATCH !!! homie, next time bring a deck for the hairy man/girl, you might end up on Dave Paulidies' Missing 411' ,thats a mad ass effort dude awesome work
Maybe you can put a tarp or something in your car so you can put those cheap bags of concrete on that and not spill concrete everywhere
Have you ever thought about a wheel barrow to get the materials to the spot ?
Bro, watching you do this after getting back into skating after 10+ year hiatus makes me wanna offer my free time if you need any help?
Zack you need a strimmer and a leaf blower too. strimmer for trail to spot then leaf blower to clear the spot.
Early as hell love to see these
are you using varnish/clear lack or what is it called? at 18:58
Im glad i found your channel im trying to building my own spot aswell atm. greetings from Germany
You know what they say, if you want to build anything in secret you should film it and post it where only a few million people would never see it 😆😆✌️
this rules dude
This is so skate, where do I sign up to build.
Something funny about a guy with a deer tat being stalked by lions. Sick spot. worth the trek!
