    There was a reason Duane chose Jaimoe first. The Allman Brothers couldn't have created their music without him.

    Jaimoe Johanson one of the greatest drummers of all time. Also, one the kindest people I have ever met.

    Nice to hear from Jaimoe. It's down to just him and Dickey as the surviving members at this point. I realy need to get to Macon and see the Big House museum. I feel like its a true pilgrimage for any Allman fan.

    Good golly gosh this fucking guy is such a talent. Allman Brother's Band wouldn't have been as amazing if he hadn't been there.

    I was never a real fan of “southern rock” for the lack of a better term. I grew up in Boston 😉 I did respect the talents that made up the ABB. We have property north of Atlanta so on the last trip I decided to visit Rose Hill to pay my respects. It was very moving. The band spent a lot of time in Rose Hill. Many pictures of them were taken in there. As I sat at the gravesite a freight train past by. The tracks are near the grave site. I wonder if Gregg saw the same thing I did having spent so much time there. 🎼 Freight train, each car looks the same, all the same. 🎼On my next trip I’m going to visit the Big House and H&H.

    What a fantastic performer and musician from my very favorite band.
    I first saw him with the Allman Brothers in Sarasota in 1969. FANTASTIC.
    I wonder if he knows how much they touched our lives.

    The Allman Brothers in my view had 2 classic lineups. The original, and the mid 70s lineup with Lamar Williams as bassist. It’s so rare for a band to have 2 wonderful lineups.

    • @obbor4
      @obbor4 Рік тому +1

      You missed them at their best then. The lineups featuring Warren and Dickie and then Warren and Derek where out of this world! Those guys took the band to areas the original, and best-loved outfit hadn't ever played long enough to get to. I wasn't crazy about the one guitar lineup that you spoke of though. They were just filling time until Warren Haynes came along to resurrect the band.

      I was born I'm '75 so I never saw either of those lineups, but the 90s lineup with Warren Haynes and Allan Woody is among the very best live bands I ever saw.
      As far as the last iteration, there is no Allman Brothers without Dickey Betts.

      @@obbor4 to compare the later versions to the original lineup with Duane is utterly ridiculous. To the point where it destroys any credibility you have when speaking about music.
      As far as the Dickey-less lineup, there is no Allman Brothers without Richard Betts. He was the heart and soul of the band after Duane passed. I saw them several times with Derek and it was a tight band, sounded like a Swiss watch mechanism, but totally devoid of soul. The one Great Southern show I saw had more heart and soul than the half dozen ABB shows I saw with Derek combined.
      The mid-70s lineup with Chuck Leavell also eats the final ABB lineup for breakfast. As a snack before breakfast! Have you even heard of Chuck Leavell? Might want to look him up...

    • @obbor4
      @obbor4 2 місяці тому +2

      @@joeshoe6184 Where do get off talking like that to a total stranger? It just so happens that I've seen Chuck Leavell many times with The Stones, Betts, Hall, Leavell, Trucks, and The ABB, among other various gigs. I have ticket stubs from over 800 concerts, over 1000 vinyl, CDs,, and tapes from hundreds of bands while you probably only know how to parrot what you hear from other fanboys. If you think that Warren Haynes doesn't stack up to whomever you might mention as a musician, then it's you who clearly have no credibility whatsoever. Check yourself or check yourself in. It appears that your ego is leading the way without any thought behind your words. Geez.

      @@obbor4 read your initial comment and ask yourself the same question. You basically ripped the guys opinion, told him he was wrong and acted like a real know it all, so I figured I would respond in kind.
      The first time I saw the ABB was almost 30 years ago now, I've seen hundreds of concerts over decades. Many of the old greats. Warren is a great guitar player, great, one of the best I've seen or heard. Duane Allman is a god. Hes on a whole different level. Warren would be the first to admit that, and not from false humility. He knows that Duane reached places that mankind will never go again. That's not even an opinion, it's fact. He's top 3 all time on anybody that knows anything. The ABB while he was in the band was the ultimate rock and roll band and arguably the greatest live band of all time. When Giants Walked the Earth. Not in the feeble and weakling 90s and 2000s.
      That's awesome you saw Chuck Leavell! My buddy saw him with the Stones and I'll be forever jealous.

    Had the chance to run around Nashville with Jaimoe when he was there to demo new Zildjian cymbal at a drummer convention. He introduced me to Bernard Purdie and we shook hands and after Benard walked away he asked me if I knew who that was.. Nope I said.. Dam..face palm!! We had a ball running around for a few day's.

    How can I find out if he played at a place called the Beer Barrel right before starting with the Allman Brothers? Apparently my dad took over the drums for that gig and would love some additional information. I know my dad also was the band that played right before the
    Allman Brothers at the Macon festival in the early 70s.

    Imagine what is was like for a black dude living with a bunch of long haired white dudes in the deep south in 1969. I lived in the south and when i was in high school in 1971 this guy pulled a gun on us because we has long hair. Has Jaimoe written a book?
