I remember when JFK was killed. They let us out of school early. No one on the bus said anything. We were kids, but we were in shock. Very sad. We as a nation, were never the same.
Yeah, same here. Seven yesrs old at the time, and yes, it was all quiet for the ride home on the school bus as they let us out of school early as well. Tragic time in history.
In 1963 the eternal flame was something Mrs. Kennedy had to fight for as many then felt it was grandiose. Knowing history as she did and knowing also the importance of gestures like the eternal flame, she insisted and is now praised for giving the country a touching monument after a wrenching tragedy. She said later her daughter learned at a young age to look for it at night when near the cemetery; Jackie explained she always viewed it the flickering flame as something " alive " there, and, by it's nature, it was lighting a way from darkness into the future. Incredibly unique woman, and, history owes her a supreme gratitude. Politics remain imperfect like the people in it; Kennedy's Eternal Flame elevates all of political history to the level he cherished.
Something she had to fight for as many felt it was grandiose? Christ America never fails to disappoint. They assassinate the president and then have his widow fight for his memorial during the worse days of her life. Disgusting. May she Rest In Peace
I was I'm my mother's womb at this very tumultuous season. She gave birth to me two months early. She believes that many mother's did - she said her crying didn't stop until I was born.
I was 8 yrs old when he died. So sad will see you in heaven. You will always be my President. Ask not what your country can do for you Ask what you can do for your country. I don't think my generation really got over his death.
I was 9 years old when Kennedy was killed. I was fascinated by the eternal flame and asked my grandmother will it really burn forever? Now 65 and the torch has not been extinguished.
I had visited Washington dc when I was 13 years old. (I'm 17 now.) I remember my only reason for wanting to go was so I could see John F. Kennedy's grave because he is my favorite president. I remember when we finally got to see it up close. I remember almost crying. It was a very strange feeling because it almost felt like John and Jackie were right there with me. Definitely a day I'll never forget.
I'm not surprised that The late presidents widow wanted an eternal flame for him. President Kennedy said during his inaugural address in 1961: "the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans...The president would carry it...Americans would be inspired by that torch to reach out with the best that lies within themselves...President Kennedy has left us physically, but like that flame at his grave, his spirit will always be with us. He said: " and the glow from that fire will truly light the world. That flame reminds me that John F. Kennedy will like that flame...will always be lit in our hearts, and although he is 105 years old, this May, he will always be young.
I was 8yrs old the day our President was murdered... I miss him and its so sad that he died this way, and more sad for his poor family to have gone thru this... I hope to see you sir in Heaven, God Bless you and your whole family....
It was a bucket list moment for me to cross off when I visited JFK's (and RFK's) graves at Arlington Cemetery in August 2005, travelling all the way from NZ. It is quite a powerful moment standing in front of all the Kennedy graves (Jackie's as well as their two deceased minor children). The eternal flame, to me, symbolises that while JFK may be gone from this world, his memory, his legacy will always live on.
Heel de Wereld huilde bij de moord en overlijden van de grootste president van Amerika JFK. Ik heb graf meerdere malen bezocht met veel respect .R.I.P president JFK
3:40 The joke here was when Kennedy's assistant called the Pentagon and asked for an eternal flame the person he talked to asked "What's eternal" to which Kennedy's assistant replied "Eternal, that means forever!".
That person’s supervisor, when asked that same question, said “Before, during, and after the ceremony “. That’s when the Kennedy aide gave him the correct definition.
If his wish is to be buried there it will be granted. I didn't vote for him and I don't support him but I president of the United States gets to plan his own funeral and I think Trump's ego well have him request burial in Arlington.
I remember that day too,it was so horrible and sad, I was home from school sick, so my mom had just go home from work and her job was graveyard shift, I turned on the TV and it was on about what happened to the president,
CBS NEWS correspondent Lee Cowan. For a very shot time there, 6 months, he left CBS snd went over to NBC, then returned back to CBS. Always liked Lee Cowan's news broadcasts. Wish that John Roberts would return back to CBS NEWS as well to, he was the greatest and would have been a much better replacement after Dan Rather left the anchor desk at CBS NEWS. Harry Smith for many years was also on CBS NEWS, and went over to NBC as well to, along with Bob Fall and Ron Allen. Raised on CBS NEWS, the good old days with Walter Cronkite, and the good old days when men gave the news. Now in days it's all women, and the evening news just isn't interesting to watch anymore, not authoritative any longer.
You should try . Arlington National Cemetery is incredible. As much as our nation is incredible Arlington National Cemetery seems like Jesus Christ ,Son of Almighty God , made Arlington National Cemetery .
The most tragic day in America history November 22nd 1963.I was 6 years old watching the broadcast of President John F Kennedy and Mrs Kennedy as they went though Dallas I remember seeing the President grab at his throat then seconds later the side of his head seemed to explode the second shot. It was a terrible experience watching a man you like die Rest in peace President Kennedy you will never be forgotten there was still so munch good you wanted to do For our country God bless

President Kennedy was so young. Why?
May that flame burn unto eternity!! We miss you terribly, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, and we have never recovered from your untimely passing!!!
Eternal Flame. Love the symbolism of the flame lighting the dark as a sign of hope.🔥🕯✝️
Wonderful story. Great engineering work and a beautiful idea from a very mature, educated young woman - Mrs. K.
I WAS NOT EVEN BORN YET,AND TEARS ARE STREAMING DOWN MY EYES.
same.
We will never forget. Where we go one, we go all. Thank you for everything, Mr President. Greetings from Germany.

The eternal flame we'll leave the light on look this one little buttain solor panal like a candell in win d .
This should also be at the Twin Towers in NYC or something similar. Just imagined all that has occurred while this flame continues to burn.

President Kennedy's grave is a fitting memorial to his legacy.

South East Asian here, I feel the same. I wish to see it too
they both are there now right between that eternal flame.
"....and the glow from that fire can truly light the world. "
Oh goodness
Probably the most famous inaugural address in history.
One of my Favorite presidents of history got assassinated
RIP John F. Kennedy
May 29, 1917- November 22 1963
Whenever I hear the song Eternal Flame by the Bangles, it strikes a chord with me now
I have visited JFK's grave and it's a remarkably peaceful place.
I don't think I could handle going there or the Weeping Wall...Maybe Someday.

Wish i was born immortal in the beginning of time and respect this nation till the end of time
I’ve actually been here it’s a very amazing place but also very sad
It doesn’t have to be fancy to work.
When I was last in DC, you could stand at the DC end of the Memorial Bridge, and on a clear night the flame was visible from there.
World would be better with Kennedy Brothers💐⚜️
Rip John F Kennedy 🙏
Great President.. not much like him these days.
I was born a year later after his death.
RIP, Mr Presidert
RIP Mr. President.

....he’d have to have served in the military, so ZERO danger there...:)
Of course it is still burning; it is eternal.
This has totally got to be The History Guy narrating this video!
I miss jfk he is my fav president I still cry about him to this day and I really wish he never died I miss him so much (ಥ͜ʖಥ)

JFK: Eternal Flame

WHAT a god damn waste of money!. Lets pay thousands of dollars a year to keep a F"KN flame lit ! A grave would have been ENOUGH

Why is the eternal flame still burning cost too much money

Arlington house was Robert E. Lee's home confiscated (stolen) by the Union Army. I wish he hadn't surrendered.
Surrender or die . From a man and a cause that was right . The North stomped the the south.
A great leader, horrible person.
Huge waste of taxpayers dollars
Joe McClellan our n ass
Cost $200 a month to operate and maintain
Not paid for by your tax dollars.
Family trust set up for paying for that gas that's burning.
So calm down.
It's ok
