you have to at least give them materials money up front unless u buy that yourself. and no real company or licensed person will probably allow you to buy the materials for them unless they mark up their labor. i'm pretty sure they all ask for like half up front to cover that.

I'd rather be colorblind when it come to hiring someone. I managed properties in the past and all I cared about is if the job was going to get done right and if there was little hassle. I can't even recall the skin color of most of the contractors I hired because it didn't matter to me.

People here in Vegas all try to scam people, be the contractor or the client. The material cost money and labor is different from whatever material you need. Looks like she wanted a free closet, meaning she bought the material he has to load and unload but he wanted his labor up front. So that they didn’t turn around and say ( I’m not happy or the classic I got a hundred here and there) why didn’t they ask a company? I’m pretty sure the material and labor was triple. People need to do their due diligence when they hire people in the Las Vegas area. I’m a small business owner and it’s very very easy to look up somebody’s licensing. Because I looked up his contractors license. So they are partly at fault for not doing their due diligence and giving so much money upfront.

My husband has his own small painting company and he gets a certain amount of deposit because he buys all the materials all thru checks then once the job is finished and homeowners walk the homes then the rest is paint. Just like homeowners want to protect their $ so does my husband because he isn’t going to buy all the materials without a deposit, then homeowners can cancel or change their mind.

Fully bonded and licensed General contractors are really expensive so not many can afford it. Handyman remodelers are alot more affordable and many do great work but again always do your part.
