Say what you will about Overkill, but the guys are extremely dedicated to doing what they do. 20 albums in 38 years is pretty fucking stellar. Also, they're from my home state. That'll be enough to get me to check Scorched out.
Now if it's better than 72 Seasons, we shall see
And yes. It is better than 72 Seasons. The UA-camr is very young to judge Overkill with a holistic approach.
Metallicas 72 seasons sounds boring!!! Overkill s new álbum is a killer machine!!!
Actually, very difficult to find better drumming than this album. This might be Jason Bittner’s best! That dude is amazing.
He commented on their dedication. He is right though. It’s been the same
Album for twenty years.
Mostly because Dd took control of the writing.
Releasing lots of recycled junk every other year isn't necessarily impressive or something to be proud of, sometimes it's just better to call it quits before you're past your prime...
Overkill is definitely one of thrash metal bands alright
I actually think this band has gotten better over time. The last album wasn't as good, but the few before it were fantastic. I don't give a shit if this band keeps releasing the same album over and over. That's exactly what I want. Consistent, bad ass albums for almost 40 years.
so you want the same thing over again ,what a close minded perspective !
@@19megamustaine85 I like consistency and bands that don't sell out. That's my perspective. I don't give a shit if that is close minded or not. I like what I like.
Last album was a banger .. looking forward to Scorched! Incredible and consistent band
Overkill are basically the Motörhead or AC/DC of thrash metal. They constantly put out the same album but are really good at what they do. They aren’t reinventing anything, just giving exactly what we want every time.
AC-DC albums are not all the same I'm sick of hearing that. Motorhead are more like that alright but AC-DC albums except the last few are not the same. All albums up to flick of the switch are great albums.
Dude I love AC/DC too but a lot of their albums sound the same lmao
@@themetalmeltdownofficial no they don't if that's the case u could say it about any band, like maiden, slayer, priest or anyone else, because they have a unique style or sound.
@@martymartin2894 I mean, moot point, because I WOULD say the same about Slayer lmao, maybe not Judas Priest and Iron Maiden as they to their credit have switched things up a bit over the years but yeah.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial I'm not arguing and maiden is my favorite band, but when u hear them u know it's maiden, same with AC-DC etc.
LOL. Blitz has always sounded like a pissed off goblin. He sounded just like this in the 80s. It's actually remarkable how little his voice has changed after all these years.
This album is a masterpiece, best since Ironbound!
Yesss i agree
Facts. Top four: Years of Decay, Horrorscope, Ironbound, and Scorched. All different, all awesome
Overkill has a formula that kicks ass. I'm always excited for a new Overkill record. Keep them coming, I know I will be buying all of them as they come out.
The Grinding Wheel and The Wings Of War are actually two of my favorite Overkill albums. I love the progressive thrash feel to both of them, especially The Grinding Wheel.
Ngl I’m way more excited for this than the new Metallica. Yes Overkill make the same meal over and over again, but goddamn the meat is well cooked and the potatoes are well seasoned.
I thought “I Hear Black” and “The Grinding Wheel” were solid stand-outs for post classic-era Overkill. Definitely gonna check this out!
There's no denying that their older albums were hard to beat but I feel like their last three albums were definitely standouts in their modern era.
Ah yeah, a new overkill album, I personally love them, one of my favorites of all time so I've been really hyped for this new album. I love their modern output, mainly everything post ironbound ive been really loving, i dont wanna spoil how feel on certain albums since atm am listening to their discography to tier them so whenever I get it done ill share it off in the discord server. Their 90s and 2000s material is questionable to me, theirs only a couple from that period ill go back to, but from the debut to horrorscope and ironbound to wings of war i love it so much. I probably like them more than most people because in highschool was really depressed and I remember discovering them at my lowest point so whenever im sad, depressed, anxious, or all that horrible mental thoughts and problems, ill play an overkill album and my mood goes back to normal and I feel happy.
Anyway nice review, keep up the content, and all overkill albums reviewed when? Lol
Holy shit a new Overkill album?! How did this fly under my radar? These guys never disappoint! I would love for them to do another "Overkill" song again... wanna hear those beginning notes again, "Dom-dam-dom-duuuuuuuummm... ... Dom-dam-dom-duuuummm... ..." and then another evil slab of thrash with new armor!!!
I kind of hear you about the lack of innovation. I personally believe that the originality of each new individual album between "Feel the Fire" and "The Years of Decay" that was so awesome - despite them keeping up the awesome spirit of Overkill while also innovating and being trippy as hell in their compositions - is due to one man: Bobby Gustafson, the original lead guitarist. If you want to keep comparing them to AC/DC, Bobby Gustafson was their Bon Scott in that he kept them dynamic, exciting and growing musically.
I would LOVE if they could bury the hatchet with Bobby and get back together for the next album, although of course by now that would be a mean slight to their current guitarists; one can dream, can't one????
Vio-lence's last album had Gustafson on it if looking for some idea of what Overkill might be missing without him.
@@shangri-la-la-la Really? Awesome! Gotta check that out... been meaning to anyways! Thanks for the head's up... Didn't know he was on it.
He fucking slays!
I forget which album or song it was. But they touched on those notes again for a split second. As far as getting BG back. They could always do what Maiden did when Adrian Smith returned. Three guitars. Gers, Smith and Murray
Overkill has been one of my favorite artists of all time. I like the vast majority of their catalog. I was very much looking forward to this new album. As expected, it's Overkill and I love it.
I agree with him 100%. It’s like when Bobby left the band the band left the auto locate on.
I’m more excited about Overkill than 72 Seasons but overall there’s a hell of a lot better stuff on the go
I don't care, all I know is that I'm going to enjoy this album as well as the last 5 or 6 albums.
More power to ya bud, cheers
Okay so this album gets a 3/5 - looking forward to see your 72 Seasons review to see how it compares! A lot of 'Thrash Elitists' are wayyyyy more excited about the new Overkill than the new Metallica, pretty bold move to release both on the same day!
I mean, they talk more about Metallica in the comment sections for Overkill album, than Overkill... So they are kinda pinched by the fact that Metallica gets more attention...
Overkills album is better.
The ACDC comparison has always been apt for this band. I’ll probably listen to it once, have a good time, then forget it exists.
I wont lie. Overkill has an awesome work ethic to push out 20 albums over 40 years, that is dedication. Personally though, this album was just okay at best. Same with their previous album. Ironbound and Electric Age were far better albums with greater range creatively. But so far, their recent work has just been "Okay". I wish they would try to be somewhat experimental and do something different like they did in the 90's without going too far out there. But what can you expect at this point
Generic thrash metal album... Today thrash metal bands are mostly distinct by their singers, many of them sound so similar.... Rarely one song stands out from the rest... That said I liked We won't be coming back from the album the most....
Really enjoyable & entertaining review
As a life long overkill fan who has seen them more times than I care to remember. I have to totally agree with you. I agree with you about pretty much everything. Solid straight honest review.
I haven’t heard a bunch of songs and I found some of it interesting. I will give it a listen full through but seeing as you just nailed my feelings on every over kill album since iron bound…..
I love that Overkill have stayed true to their style.Their newer albums have even been better than a lot that came before. One of the rare 80s thrash bands still kicking ass.
Overkill were one of the first thrash metal bands I really found myself enjoying. I'd heard classic Metallica records before then, but Overkill grabbed my attention with "The Electric Age", which has since became one of my favourite albums. Given that was my starting point, I'm perhaps more forgiving of their "by the numbers" approach to thrash than most, but I will grant you their past couple of albums have just been okay, IMO.
I do wish they'd experiment a little more with slower grooves as they did on "Necroshine", which does show they're capable of a little more variety than their standard affair. I think it's safe to say I will enjoy the new Overkill album, and *may* enjoy it more than the new Metallica record coming out on the same day.
Though my guess is that, as you say, fans will like this, but it won't win over many more people who aren't already on board. Then again, who knows? Maybe they'll bring back some of the OTT Aggression they had on "The Electric Age"? I'll have to wait and see.
Years of Decay has some slowe grooves as does From the Underground and Below.
@@dkyelak That is does! I think Overkill should bring back those slower tempo songs, or at least mix it up a bit.
First here, will have to check out this album. I feel the same with Cannibal Corpse and I absolutely love them, but consistent can be a good and bad thing.
My sentiments exactly! I’ve listened to it 4-5 times and nothing really stands out, but it doesn’t suck.
I really liked ironbound and the electric age. They sure are consistent and it’s Overkill doing Overkill things.
Electric Age was my intro to Overkill and it has at least a few bops on it.
@azertyuiop agreed dude
Hardest working band in metal. A one trick pony, sure, but they kick ass at that one trick, too. Love Overkill and respect their work ethic for sure.
I just did a ranking 😂 and yes it's damn impossible to do because you know what you're getting but I still love them. I hear black and W.F.O. were awesome! Irobound and the grinding wheel are great for modern Overkill too. You know what you're getting and I respect that. Most consistent thrash band can't argue with that.
Yeah! General youtube question for anyone who might know. I see it says "0" comments at the top, yet there are a ton of comments. Is this a youtube change like when they got rid of the "dislike" count or is this a change made by an individual content creator?
Honestly I think its just a glitch
You plan on doing a reviewing every mercyful fate album?
👀
I feel that
Cannot wait for the return
This one was probably their best yet you know it's people's opinion me i enjoyed this more than the last album
4.5/5
Overkill are one of the best and please, please Overkill keep making the same sounding albums because it always delivers the goods..
Gotcha, will listen to Void Ceremony, Jesus Piece, and Black Orchid Empire instead. Thanks for the heads up.
Dodheimsgard as well
I’d much rather listen to Scorched than 72 Seasons.
mid 90's overkill till late is pretty good with ironbound too. Killing kind, from underground, wfo, bloodletting underrated imo
Ironbound is great though! Some of it had to grow on me, but I love it.
I hope for the same with Scorched.
Can we hear the album you wrote, we'll wait..........
Born and raised in Jersey. Played at a battle of the bands with Overkill. Used to see them at Lamour’s in Brooklyn. Never was a big fan of rat skates and that forgettable guitarist, so, easy to say I’m not a fan of the early albums because of that. Liked some of the songs for nostalgic reasons. But I rediscovered the band recently and was amazed to hear that they’ve released 20 albums . And I think the last 3 are some of their best. Blitz at his age sounds like Udo on acid . It’s pretty incredible. He’s always been the highlight of the band. And the guitar playing and drumming are far superior to the early days. Yes, the albums have started to sound similar but they still come up with some pretty cool shit that kicks ass on many other bands of the genre.
They do what they do. I met Bobby Blitz and CC Verni many years ago. These guys do what they do well. They are a band that does not evolve and most music lovers don’t like that when a band does that. I personally like bands that take chances and experiments.
I use my Overkill albums as coasters there are so many.
💀💀💀
What part of the word "Overkill" did you not understand?? 😂
at least there constain and sill sound sick as fuck
They are named...wait for it...OVERKILL! Like many others, I am more excited about this album than those guys that sell out every night and their album.
Ha ha ha! It’s pretty great.
Electric Age was their last REALLY great album. But I have them all, and no real clunkers for a really long time. Been a fan since I heard Feel The Fire on a music sampler tape, NY Metal, that WSOU college radio used to play in the mid 80s.
They're like the August Burns Red of thrash
Now that I think about it, is there any other thrash band in the world that has made 20 albums? Overkill might hold an achievement here.
20 albums is a cakewalk for the likes of Buckethead but it's still quite impressive
My review This Overkill album sounds like an Overkill album!
I don't get 2 shits what you say,,I've been listening to them for 40 years and i will listen to them to the day i die
overkill should experiment more look at paradise lost !
It's great that other than an attempt at Death Metal and Pantera worship on 2 early 2000s releases, Overkill has remained consistent. At least they went Heavier ( like Testament) instead of getting haircuts, putting on lipstick and releasing material that could be best described as Lynnerd Skynnerd meets Nickleback. And Overkill never performed Crush , or did songs with Public Enemy, they aren't the most adventurous or exciting band, but they are definitely consistent. But I have tried to get into modern Overkill, it's all just Horrorscope with Goblin Vocals and over produced to me. Still better than Six Feet Under anyway
Question, do you like any metal bands?
Answer, yes.
East Coast metal bands are like sharks - they cannot stop moving. Saw them on tour last year in NY & this year in Florida. As long as the boys keep popping out cd’s & playing at smaller local halls instead of Metallica sized stadiums, then I’m gonna come out to support & buy the merch.
He sounds like a pissed off goblin? You should listen to yourself
😂
Hell, at least they're still doin' it, the new bands just fake it or copycat off the old school bands. It'll be a sad day when ALL these great 70's/80's bands finally check out. LONG LIVE Classic Thrash, the best Metal genre ever.
The way I see it. Overkill have nothing else to prove. How many thrash bands are left ? Let alone from the original scene. I do get it , it may sound the same. But what would you rather? A 40 year old band that stopped making any new songs since The Years of Decay or offer you something else whether it may sound familiar? Again they have nothing to prove. But it's fun watching them coming up with new stuff . After all it's 40 years.
, how many lost that edge after 10 years?
Let them have fun.
I feel like Overkill are the American version of Sabbat because those guys are nothing but workhorses 🤘
Yeah your sentiments about the band in general echo my own. I respect the hell out of them for their dedication, but.. Their past several albums at least all sound alike. Granted I usually find a few bangers on each one, but it's a bit too much of the same thing at this point.
0:38 Overkill lmao
A mid album by an old creatively bankrupt thrash metal band released in the second week of April 2023...
If I had a nickel for every time I said that, I'd have two nickels... but it's weird that I said it twice.
Im sure that quote will come with Metallica
A little overkill on the amount of records they have released.
I would still take an Overkill album over all the shitty cookie monster vocal - let see how fast the drummer can play metal that doesn't ever seem to go away. (and Im a drummer who loves metal drums).
I’m assuming 72 Seasons will have the same score or less lol
Who the hell is working the grill if this guy is making this video? We got tickets!
Congrats on having the only funny 'diss' in this comment section lmao, I legit laughed
Sorry, Jason Bittner on drums puts it over the top! Overkill just lives up to their namesake. Quite brilliant, really.
"20 albums who does that?" I know someone Psycho Synner he would lol
Scorched is 100x better 72 Seasons. That new Metallica was like listening to water evaporate.
This new Overkill album is awesome! All the things we love from Overkill on point. Tone, riffs, energy and heart. This condescending review is trash.
Kicks the new Metallica's ass!
That's like a 40 year old man boasting they beat an 8 year old
Yeah but bob, there is bands like that that keep putting out the same album over and over again, and you know what, people like myself that is what they love! I don't want changes in bands like overkill or slayer or motorhead!!!!
I bet that is way better than 72 seasons lol
I think Overkill are trying to beat Elvis's 52 albums.
Sounding the same is seems to be a bad thing because you sound like every other album... unless you're metallica. People hate change when its about em hahaha
So the people bitching that Metallica isn't putting out the "same album over and over again" are upset whenever other bands release the same album over and over again.
Metal fans are so toxic.
Name one video where I bitched that Metallica wasn't putting out the same album over and over again.
Much respect to them but they are a band I can only listen to in small doses.
Then why are you reviewing this? Sorry it's not Bullet for my Valentine or something This album that Overkill has made is brilliant.
Of all the bands to name drop you picked BFMV lmao 🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀 tell me you dont know any new bands without telling me you dont know any new bands
why do over kill fans worry about metallica so much instead of over kill lol its hilarious
I just listened to like 4 tracks and it’s basically kinda bland. Not great but not bad.
Testament is still better in my opinion their new album will be better then overkills probably just a guess
Testament is MUCH better, thats a fact.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial new overkill ok new prong ok but i keep going back to beg to differ it is just prongs best album in my Opinion
I love overkill, but they should have stopped at electric age.
But they’re still really good. They clearly put in the work.
Dude they fucking rock!
If a song sounds similar to another one that means it's no good....I disagree to many they can still be enjoyable...
But you can only do that for so long before you become another band with AC/DC syndrome
Just waiting for you to torture yourself with a complete tier list
You're gonna be waiting a long time bud
@@themetalmeltdownofficial oh I know. But the longer you wait the more albums youll have to review.
Just kidding. I wouldn't want you to subject yourself to that.

What does a t shirt have to do with anything lmao

They are pretty repetitive. Their albums sound recycled
MASTERPIECE but 72 seasons a bore fest
i wish they'd go for a different production, im really bored of these overproduced thrash albums

This LP blows away the new Metallica.
That’s not exactly an accomplishment and DEFINITELY not one that should be celebrated. Our standards shouldn’t be this low

Name a better old school thrash metal band. I’ll wait...
Testament, Megadeth, Anthrax, Kreator, Sodom, Death Angel, Dark Angel, etc. Lots of newer bands playing old school stuff real well like Evile, Municipal Waste, Toxic Holocaust, Enforced.
I dig Overkill but they've gotten stale and there are better options for thrash, plain and simple.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial I disagree. Testament and Sodom are solid. Dude, no one right now is producing like Overkill . They have Jason Bittner! Are we listening to the same shit? This is best drumming I’ve ever heard. Maybe Peart. Maybe Dailor. This is exceptional . Name a better bassist than D.D. Very talented band.
Dan Briggs, Shavo Odadjian, Billy Sheehan, Steve DiGiorgio, Sean Malone, Liam Wilson, Joe Lester, Thundercat. Just to name a few. No disrespect to D.D. but, you asked, so, yeah.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial Cool. My favorites are Cliff, Les Claypool, Greg Christian, Muzz Skillings and Doug Wimbish. They all have very prominent playing abilities. I like when the bassist stands out.
@@themetalmeltdownofficial Review Holy Moses Invisible Queen. It’s shredding my brain right now. Also, Four Stroke Baron. They released Classics back in 2021 with Devin Townsend.
Overkill is pretty much generic thrash metal... It is thunderous album, but the tracks don't stand out, and is kinda repetitive... Only We won't be coming back stood out to me....
They give em exactly what they want
Weak thrash.
Testament suffers from the same issue - their last few albums sound exactly the fucking same
I'd much rather listen to Testament though
Overkill kinda lost me after “The Electric Age” that album is great but after that it all kinda became redundant. They’re good live but yes they are creatively bankrupt!
