    Love the Live Target when getting bait, so sick to watch! Love the tips provided, didn't know about the closed mouth debacle, I will start hooking them through the top for now on. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

      Thanks brother!! Every baitfish is different, but because I use every type of live bait in freshwater and salt I’ve learned that they all foul hook themselves much less when hooked this way. 👍👍

    New subscriber here. Great channel. My fishing career started with walleye fishing on North Texas, then moved to the Gulf coast of Texas and had a lot of luck with speckled trout, redfish and flounder along with some offshore fishing. My job then took me to Pensacola. A couple of years ago I wound up in Ohio so I got after the monster catfish on the Ohio River. Now I’m about to retire and I bought a place on Clark’s Hill Lake in Georgia so I’m gonna go after striper so I’ve been watching and, hopefully learning from your channel. Thanks for all the good info.

    I was on lake yesterday and on a couple humps I saw bait (blueback herring) stacked vertically and several fish hugging tight to the bottom. Could those have been striped bass and/or hybrids? Do these fish ever go belly down like black bass

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  3 роки тому

      Sure they lock up deep during high pressure systems and cold fronts. Also when struggling with low O2 levels.

      Ha!! Tommy is a MACHINE. He’s the old school friend who you can count on 100%. He never questioned it at all. He listens to me ramble all day long and never once questions any of the strange stuff I might do. He’s in 100%. It took me MANY years to put this crew together. It was NOT easy. I am extremely fortunate brother!!!

    Ha, I keep that same trail mix on my boat. I could eat that stuff all day long. :) You need to get that Drotto Catch and Release boat latch. I put one on my trailer and I freakin love that thing. The boat slides up the ramp and click, it's locked into place. Easy peasy! :)

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  3 роки тому +1

      I destroyed 2 of those things 😛. I don’t think they are made for 300 launches a year. I beat the piss out of it 😂. I don’t like to say this, but my boat won’t move once it’s on the trailer. We pull right up without attaching it. Don’t tell anyone 😉😉.

    • @Rico11b
      @Rico11b 3 роки тому +1

      @@MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS not sure if they can handle the stress of a large boat like yours. My boat is smaller so hopefully it'll take the stress okay. I'll be lucky if I can get 150 launches a year.

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  3 роки тому

      Let me know if they come out with a heavier version. I’m actually working with a guy now that designed a dawg system that mounts to the rear of the trailer that pops up and keeps the boat from sliding back. Looks really great.

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  3 роки тому +1

      Yep!! We went up and down 4 or 5 lanes and saw nothing then finally found them at the end of the dock you were fishing by. I’m gonna post a video showing all 3 net throws. It’s amazing video. You can see the bait swim out from under the net on the first throw, we got 6-8 baits on the second throw and loaded up on the 3rd. That new sonar is amazing. Did you catch anything there? We saw Stripers swimming under the bait.

    What size casting net do you use for bunker?

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  2 роки тому

      I personally prefer a 10’ or the 11’ Black Pearl INVI nets. For adult Bunker I like the largest mesh I can get 1-1/8”. For Peanut Bunker, Herring, Shad I like 5/8” 👍

    Great video as always guys…where can I find the rods you mentioned for live bait can they be used for plastic bait too??? Also I just wanted to know how I can get a old school sticker for my truck… keep the great videos coming!!!!

    • @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS
      @MikeSmedleyOLDSCHOOLSTRIPERS  3 роки тому

      Thanks brother!! These rods are specifically designed for live and cutbait. Of course you can cast plastics with them, but they won’t have the sensitivity of an all graphite rod. They will feel a bit heavier in your hand too, so they might wear you out. Shoot me your address and I’ll get a few stickers out to you 👍👍. 😁😁. Mikesmedley9@gmail.com
