In this tutorial, I'll show you how to make a floating object in Affinity Photo. I think fantasy effects like this are so much fun, so I hope you enjoy the video! 😊
One of the better tutorials I've ever seen. Thanks Ally.

I hope it turns out well for you! 😊
Awesome tutorial as always. I have been creating different backgrounds for people's photos and I saw something else I need to do when I place their subjects onto my backgrounds. Learn something every day! Thanks Ally! (I've got a sneaky feeling that I will never know everything regardless of what my grandkids think!) 😆🙂🙃
That's great! I'm glad you could learn some helpful tips. I hope your projects turn out well. 😊

You are a magician , Ally! Really cool effect! Learned a lot from this. Thanks!
Thanks so much Kathleen! I'm glad you enjoyed it. 😊
Really appreciate this tutorial. Always very clearly explained. It would be great to explore techniques regarding shadows. You cover that a little bit with perspective warp and gradient tools. Just need to understand shadows more fully.
Thanks, that's a good idea for a future tutorial. 😊
Super nice idea and as always so well explained. Will try this for sure. Thank you so much!
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. 😊
I learn a new keyboard shortcut in every one of your videos. Near the end of this, I was waiting for some kind of perspective shift in the reflective faces, then realized that I'd assumed it existed in the video thumbnail, but wasn't necessary for the effect to work. Nicely done. (It has also been a joy to see you grow as a teacher and presenter since the time you took over for Ezra.)
Thank you! That's so nice of you to say. I've been working hard to become a better teacher. 😊
Excellent.
Thank you! 😊
A great fun project - several very handy tool phases to note and use. Thanks Ally - hope to play with this one soon. :)
Have fun! I hope your take on this effect turns out well 😊
Thankyou for this one, learnt a lot from it. Love to Ezra too.
Thank you Chris! Glad you liked it. 😊
Thank you
Thanks Kevin! 😊
Love it! I had an idea to use a displacement map to see if I could get the shadow to look like it's fitting the contours of the snow but it didn't really work. Worth a shot, though.
That was a good idea! But ya, the displacement map can be a little finicky, and doesn't always look very good.
Enjoyed this tutorial. Do you have any tutorials using the iPad version of Affinity Photo 2? Thanks!
I don't, sorry!
WOW A-1 👍
Thank you! 😊
Hi Ally, I'm wondering if the 101 courses are suitable for Affinity V2 users?
All the courses on my website were filmed in Affinity V2. 😊
Really good! But shouldn't the reflections be reversed like an actual mirror would reverse them? Or am I misunderstanding this?
That's a great idea! To do that, have the Move Tool out, then right click in the center of your document, and then go to Transform > Flip Horizontal. 😊
@@AffinityRevolution That makes sense! Maybe you are saying the same thing but I am thinking I could do the transform after I copy the background but before I make it the child layer of one of my triangles? That way my reflection is copied only on my triangles.
@@adamburnett566 Yes, that's a great way to do it. 🙂
Which has more functionality for affinity photo the Mac or iPad? Or is it the same?
They have the same tools, so use whichever one you prefer. 😊
Where do you get all these cool ideas?
I get ideas from Pinterest, my own practice, or by seeing what other photo editors are doing. So, lots of places! 😊
Hey this is a question that's totally unrelated to this tutorial but I need some help. I updated all affinity programs to the latest version and all of them shut down as soon as I open a new document. What should I do?
Sorry, I'm not sure why that's happening. I recommend you contact Serif, the company that makes the Affinity software. Here is their email: affinity@serif.com
Hi, why am not getting V2 update?
Have you already purchased V2? Because V2 is paid upgrade from V1.
@@AffinityRevolution Hi no i thoughts itz just upgrade 😅
The Affinity developers gave 1.x updates for free, and now are giving 2.x updates for free, but to go from version 1 to 2 is a paid upgrade. If you want to upgrade, I would wait until Black Friday. I bet they will have a sale! 😊
