Learn the importance of stucco roof-to-wall flashing caulking all the penetrations.
Metal saddles for the waterproofing of a roof to a wall.
This video explains the importance of roof flashing saddles necessary for stucco longevity.
Understanding stucco saddles roof-to-wall metal flashing could save you a fortune in dry rot repairs.
This video also shows an alternative to having metal saddles fabricated to protect your number 1 investment. • How to Install roof-to...
You name it, we have done it.
In this video, we explain why these areas with no saddles failed to stop the rainwater. Sure, caulking is great, but it is not permanent unless you add metals, thick peel, and sticks.
Is it necessary to Calk all the stucco penetrations? You betcha; it’s super important.
Thus, if you have roofs next to stucco walls, take notes, or the rainwater will eventually penetrate this area and cause rot, leading to various problems you’re witnessing in this video.
In the video, you can only see two failed areas where the rainwater did its job and created wood rot; four saddles were needed.
As a licensed plastering contractor, I have replaced as many as thirty similar situations in my day.
Help put me out of work, install these roofs to wall saddles, and keep the rainwater flowing down your walls, not filling them up with water.

As a painting contractor / owner in Florida you are so spot on about painting every 10 years or so. It amazes me to the condition of stucco and other types of homes we come across and the sheer neglect by the owners. I have to take the initiative to learn about stucco and plastering just to be able to paint these homes. Thanks for sharing your expertise Kirk.

Evening Nathan Tice my professional painting friend, I was being kind, between you and me if it's a quality primer and paint with a competent painter doing the prep work, about every ten to twelve years is needed to protect wood and stucco along with all other substrates.😉
On the flip side, one who skimps on painting products or the prep work every 4 years as the stucco develops cracks the rainwater gets in the wood expands, the ants and termites move in for dinner the rest is a feast for bugs than when the rainwater seeps into the cracks and rots/destroys the wood, insallations, sheetrock start to yellow, carpets become damp which creates the mold which sickens entire families, and on and on.......🤔
Let's face it, maintenance sucks, but avoiding it is ten times worse when you consider the short-term, let alone long term health and financial cost to repair.
FYI, both you and I would love to be on a warm beach hanging out with girls wearing something close to nothing, but maintenance comes first. 😏

Good evening my friend, nither. I'm caulking this transition as I won't pass the lath inspection unless this is completed.
This can cause a hairline crack as I lose the key, but I prefer the waterproofing instead of a key. Besides, my hands are tied. I'm caulking this vertical transition, or I will fail my lath inspection.

Evening Raymond, excellent question, my friend. As all roofs have different slopes, a good flashing man can make them fit any angle, then simply solder the joints.
If one doesn't understand flashing, let alone how to solder,
we'll then saddles need to be subbed out to a flashing man who does understand how to measure, cut, and solder.

For stucco, fiber cement siding, brick, vinyl, and wood siding.

Hi Kirk I had my security bars put back on my new stucco. Iron works man drilled a 1in by 1in round hole into the outside stucco and through to my inside plaster wall into my bedroom to reach safety latch. Unfortunately the security bar had to be removed because of multiple mistakes made during installation that left me with this hole. The empty space between the outer stucco wall and the plaster wall looks to be about 1 1/2 to 2 inches. I want to know if I need to open the inside bedroom wall just a little to patch that hole from the inside so that when Im able to get the Stucco guy to come back out to fill in the 1 in by 1 inch round hole with about a 1/4 th inch of plaster to be filled in. I dont want to leave the inside wall on the stucco side unpatched because stucco might fall in between the two walls in cause other problems when they patch it from the outside. The stucco guy only does outside stucco. What are your thoughts on how to correct this.

Good morning Susan, Id buy a tube of More-flexx caulking, works for both interior and exterior. Problem solved 7 bucks.😉
FYI, If the caulking sags a bit, no worries, do the best you can let sit two days, then use more and trowel it on better.
Mor-flexx caulking has sand in it, but you can use a putty knife to make it smooth also.

@@StuccoPlastering I have a few questions. How do I get to your channel, I could not find it. I contact you through youtube. Secondly because the hole was drilled through all the coats of stucco will the mor-flexx be enough to keep water out when it rains?.
