Y'know, I feel like the biggest advantage Roland has is your opponent not understanding what the hell is going on. In that sense, this might be the most lore-accurate a _Library of Ruina_ character in RoA could possibly get.

The mod creator literally porting the character gimmick + the ENTIRE combat system of the game he came from...... And guess what? This is still a *simplify* iteration of the mechanic of the game he came from!

Technically Roland is based off of a medieval 11th century novel character named Orlando, who is a knight known in France as “Roland”. The novel is called ‘Orlando Furioso’, or in English ‘The Fury of Roland’. It’s a classic fictional reality story about love and war during the French-Saracen war in which Roland returns from to find his wife dead. In a fury he seeks out vengeance against the Saracen who both killed and defiled his wife. There’s a fun fact about Project Moon’s Roland. Almost every single character in the Project Moon universe is from novels since its creator is a huge book nerd.
Lot of the abnormalities are also referenced from a bunch of work / irl things such as solemn lament referenced by an actual butterfly with similar pattern, a specific spider for spider bud etc etc
I do hope we get more of this. But rather than the Red Mist, I'm hoping Binah. The shenanigans with her pages, zoner fighting style which would then be supplemented by EGO Pages, and the Abnormality Pages would be a sight to see.
the colors are based off the other prominent chars in LOR. orlando is just base roland. librarian is angela. all the ones after that until furioso are the different patron librarians colors. silence is roland's wife angelica. reverberation is angelica's brother and roland's primary hater, argalia. and tear(like what comes out when you cry) is roland's old teacher, iori the purple tear. hana is based on roland's old friend/colleage olivier. messenger might be yan from one of the fingers, the index specifically. nugget is BongBong, which is a meme in the project moon fanbase. im honestly not sure about hero-king. nine sword style is zoro, who isn't from LOR. limitless is obviously gojo, using the perception blocking mask as a blindfold. not sure who notorious is.
Because Roland plays with tipper mechanics(and specific combat pages just make the tipper hitbox the whole attack instead of requiring spacing, meaning he just is a better Marth mechanically) that’s why he has that skin.
The creators of Library of Ruina said that Roland's moveset was partially inspired by Dante from Devil May Cry, and it shows. Every move is basically designed to be as cool as possible.
It’s funny how he completely misinterpreted the emotion coins as “green is good, red is bad”. Awakenings are good but lack impact, while Breakdowns have far stronger effects at a steeper cost. For example, Child of the Galaxy’s Abnormality pages are mostly Awakenings, so if you want his pages, you want to get Positive Emotion Coins to make it more likely for his pages to appear. The Heart of Aspiration’s Abnormality pages are all Breakdowns, but they’re incredibly powerful. You want to get Negative Emotion Coins to make them more likely to appear on the draw.
