A player can wait to declare mah jongg for one of their hands because if they declare mah jongg for both hands, the value for both hands is doubled! Un-declared mah jonggs have no value so the challenge is that the other player could be doing the same thing :}
I love Siamese Mah Jongg and have been playing for 2 years. I learned that once someone declares MJ, then the second player has to get both MJ to score. If the second player get both at same time then score is doubled. If second player only gets one MJ then she gets no score. Is this just a house rule.

In another video on solo Siamese you appear to use your draws just for one rack then the other. Is that because you are playing as if you were playing against another player? Thank!

Do you have to use the little cards with the hands on them? Thats the part thats confusing me the most with saimese mahjong. Can I not just play it with the standard mahjong hands? Or is the little card required?
Tried playing this Siamese game and all we do is sabotage each other’s game, we are always aiming for the same suits or numbers, at times even jokers don’t help, worst when you can’t use for pairs, we’ve had to make up our own rules to make it fair...does any one have the same issues? Help
No, the tiles in your racks can be placed anywhere at any time so you can change your mind a rearrange at will. The exposures must remain where placed.

Interesting. I normally play a 4 handed game with an Asian version of rules and scoring. I think any version of rules could be applied to this, depending on what you're used to as far rules go. Have you tried not combining the 2 sets of tiles from start-up and playing as if each set of tiles was 1 person, taking it in turns with Karen, sort of pretending there's 4 people? Is Karen single? Did I say that out loud?
I have played as you describe. This particular version was created for 2 players, playing 2 hands each. This way, the concealed tiles are interchangeable between hands and there is special scoring for wins.

I just read the rules and everything- sucked the life out of me, Lol-!!! It seems odd that in a game called Mahjong, doing a “Charleston” .... and not a Shanghai sounds funny- it’s like going into a Chinese restaurant and saying, “yeah- lemme get a pulled bbq pork sammich and a sweet tea”, lol-!!! As it happens, the cards are required for tournaments & not my table at home- at home it keeps the games interesting, hand combinations change, etc. so- for new people like me, it’s not a requirement. Maybe one day- just not today. I’m curious though- in this style of play can you “chow”, “pong”, and “Kong”? I see people picking up discards but not indicating that they have triplets, a run of 3, or 4 of a kind- and the discards picked up weren’t used immediately. I’ve been playing a mahjong game via an app on my phone and that’s how it works- I didn’t see that in this game though-

I see... the hands are play the same as you would in a normal game. If the hand is concealed, you have to draw all the tiles needed until it's one tile away from winning then if the tile is discarded, you can declare mah jongg. Or, you can hold it and declare double-mah jongg with the second hand.

Those are not identical tiles so unless it’s mah jongg you can’t claim a discard or use a joker for 456.

They’re playing American Mah Jongg which uses the card. You could play any version of MJ with two racks, probably.

I don't think it really matters. Some groups don't build walls at all.
