How? So many people say this but there's no validity to it. Financially, Marvel only made like $30,000 from selling the rights to make this movie. X-Men is what really proved that superhero movies were still something the public wanted, because it was an actual superhero movie, with known superheroes. @user-dv6gt5iw4b It can't be counted for several reasons. The biggest that it was never intended to be released in the first place. Actually Wesley Snipes delivered a completely new take on the character that didn't match the comics. Movie Blade was way cooler and more badass. Snipe's portrayal became so popular that Marvel changed the comic book character afterwards, to be more like the movies. Original comic book Blade was just a human who was immune to vampire bites. He was an expert fighter who specialized in bladed weapons (hence his name) but he didn't have any superhuman abilities. Wesley Snipes' version was a major improvement.

Awesome reaction as always. FYI, the only other culturally significant vampire project at this time was Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off Angel on TV. They share some lore elements but are different enough to please the same audience. I highly recommend those as well. Blade is kind of the unofficial beginning of the modern superhero movie age. There actually hadn't been a major one since the awful Batman & Robin. It influenced the Matrix series and inspired studios to take another look at projects that had been shelved like Spider-Man and the X-men. Marvel IP became the dominant superhero force at the box office for a while. Soon, Daredevil, Hulk, Fantastic Four, Elektra, and Ghost Rider followed. Not all of them were good, but eventually, this trend spawned the MCU. If you are looking for some other retro vampire movies from then 80s, 90s, and 00s; Fright Night(the original), The Lost Boys, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Interview with the Vampire, Queen of the Damned, and the Underworld franchise were all very popular. Sorry, but Twilight doesn't count. Real vampires don't sparkle, and they aren't emo, incel teens either.
In the Blade vampire lore, having your fangs ripped out, usually before being killed, is the ultimate insult/dishonor for a vampire. It's like cutting the testicles off a man
This is one of my favourite movies. Every frame could be still shot, and it would look like panels from a vintage comic book. Blade brought the comic to life in an astonishing way. I hope you do the whole trilogy. The second is pretty good and the third is pretty rough, but they are all worth watching just to see Wesley Snipes playing that character. My biggest complaint is that Dr Karen Jenson never pops back in. Best Karen ever. I like to think that she's working for the Blade network in another city, still making her cure and other potions for the cause. RIP Kris Kristofferson.
I mean, there has been shirty vampire movies before and after. The lore is so vague you can really do anything with it. But yeah they were a chore to get through
Blade 2 is even better. Glad you enjoyed this. Wesley Snipes was one of the most popular action stars in the 90s. He has a 6th degree black belt. White men can't Jump is another one you all should check out if you haven't seen it. Passenger 57 as well. The comics for Blade were pretty awesome! This movie was a huge hit when it came out.
So Blade is widely considered as the first *modern* Marvel movie before X-Men, Spider-Man and ofc the MCU. Before the movie, Blade wasn't much of a popular character but the trilogy made him popular and a staple character. Fast forward in 2011 Marvel got the rights to Blade back with Disney, and now we're getting a solo Blade movie in the MCU starring Mahershala Ali, which in fact we did hear his voice at the post-credit scene of Eternals talking to Dane Whitman.
There were literally thousands of vampire projects that pre-dated Blade (the first full-length vampire film, Nosferatu, was released in the 1920's). there have also been novels, plays, comic books (like Blade, itself), and thousands of years of folklore and mythology before that. The rules regarding vampirism varied widely across all of them.
I think you'd both enjoy The Crow (1994) starring Bruce Lee's son Brandon, who lost his life while filming the movie. Blade and the Crow were the two movies that proved comic book films could work and are still among the best made
blade is such a classic! the series aint bad but nothing beats the first 1 wesley snipes is actually a trained martial artist very versed in kick boxing. the cameras at the time had a little trouble capturing his kicks becauee they were so fast so the director asked him to slow them. thus snipes changes his fighting in movie to make it slower and more stylized.. thats why the fights are so cool. a real martial artists making it deliberately look cool with a regular non high speed camera
Idk if this was a “random” poll but shoutout to your patrons because they’re setting you up perfectly all the Easter eggs and cameos in future MCU movies.
The beginning of Marvel's golden age on film with the first character of the comics to have a box-office smash. The 2nd Rated-R movie for a Marvel character after The Punisher (1989). Undoubtedly the first, real kick-a** Vampire movie. Following his first mainstream appearances on Spider-Man:The Animated Series (1994-1998). From the darkside of the Marvel Universe, inspired by blaxploitation films (a la' Shaft & Blacula) and debuting 50 years ago in 'The Tomb of Dracula' comics as one of Drac's many foes. Prior to being casted as Blade, Wesley Snipes as actor/producer was involved with developing Black Panther (formerly a Sony property). Frustrated with how to make BP, he received the BLADE script and said yes to it. Snipes had never known that Blade or Black Panther were both from Marvel. The Blade trilogy was written by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Trilogy). The director Stephen Norrington (effects background) did a great job with this. Stephen Dorff (The Gate, SFW, Immortals) doesn't get enough credit as one of the best vampire villains on screen, Deacon Frost. The blending of everything in this film is phenomenal. His origins to the world he's lives, breaths and hunts in. No expense spared on blood, gore, suspense, action and drama. Cool merch with the prequel comic, Blade #0 to the soundtrack by TVT records and the PS1/Game Boy Color games. Part 2 from 2002 is great and Part 3 from 2004 is controversial. At the end of the day, it's great to see more love and appreciation for the Daywalker. RIP indeed to musician/actor Kris Kristofferson as Whistler.
RIP, Kris Kristofferson. I've been a fan of Blade since 1995. I was a 14-year-old high school freshman when this film came out in 1998. Blade first appeared in Marvel Comics' The Tomb of Dracula #10, published in July 1973. The story was created by Marv Wolfman and illustrated by Gene Colan.
The modern knowledge of vampires came from Brahm Stoker’s book Dracula from 1887. All the movies use that for source material (except Twilight. Those aren’t really vampires). Brahm Stoker based that book on old myths that are at least 1400 years old. Weakness to silver, stakes to the heart, sunlight and not having reflections all come from the old myths.
Some of Wesleys films you have to watch is definitely "Dolemite is my Name" "US Marshalls" , "New Jack City" "Passenger 57" "The Art Of War" "White Men Can't Jump" "Major League" and Money Train. He is not only a Great actor, but also one hell of a Martial artist and action star. But he's also funny. You will be pleased.
Frost was not a PART of the Vampire ruling class. He was called to The Table, like a criminal who broke their laws, with his outlandish night clubs and public parties, which brings the unwanted attention of the human authorities (against the treaty) and brings the unwanted attention of Blade. ANd it brings even MORE unwanted attention when Blade attacks a nightclub,, has a massacre, and property damage that draws even more attention from the press, fire department, victims' familiies, etc... They were trying to reign in Frost, not give him a seat at the table.
My favorite vamp movie is Interview With The Vampire (1994). Starring Brad Pitt & Tom Cruise. Twilight ruined the vampire image in my opinion. Hope you guys check out some of the vampire movies from the early 2000s, 90s & 80s.
If I can find Blade anywhere, I'm watching it. Wesley Snipes made this role his own. Snipes is very proficient in the martial arts, and he had to slow down so that the stunt men could keep up.
@Jason5818UI I think she is saying that even though people loved it then and now it should still be more popular because it really was a phenomenal movie
“Turned his a** into Hubba Bubba.” 😂 I love that you guys were smiling the whole movie! A classic for sure. Mr. October needs to watch Twilight for the channel! You may be surprised. 😂
From an old-time comic book reader, here'so some info that many younger folks aren't aware of. The original Marvel comic book character Blade was very different from this version. He origin was similar- a vampire bit his mother while she was in labor, and she died giving birth to Blade. As a result, enzymes from the bite got into his mother's bloodstream and affected her baby. Blade was born with immunity to the effects of vampire bites- he couldn't be enthralled or controlled. But that was all- original Blade wasn't considered a vampire himself, just a human with immunity to being controlled by them. He didn't have any supernatural or superhuman powers. He was an expert fighter who specialized in bladed weapons, who became a vampire hunter. The portrayal by Wesley Snipes was so popular with audiences that Marvel changed the comic book character to be more like the movies. They gave Blade vampire abilities like enhanced strength, speed and senses, plus a need to consume blood (his upgrade was put into a storyline involving Morbius). When the movie came out, the vast majority of moviegoers didn't know Blade was a Marvel comics character. The connection to Marvel wasn't advertised, audiences simply thought it was a cool original vampire flick starring Wesley Snipes. But the movie producers and studio execs knew, and Blade's success got them thinking about adapting more famous Marvel characters to the big screen.
Ayeeeeeeee the goats are back!!!!! One of my favorite of all time Wesley Snipes films is "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar..." from 1995. Co starring Patrick Swayse & John Leguizamo.
Fun fact: Wesley Snipes was originally working on a Black Panther movie with director John Singleton and Denzel Washington was supposed to play Killmonger in the 90´s. But after some high profile comic book movies like Spawn & Batman and Robin flopped, no Hollywood studio wanted to finance it. Snipes then did "Plan B" and made Blade, which was a fairly low-budget production but made a lot of movie. So, Marvel Comics´ CEO then approached the big studios and told them: "If a B-list character like Blade can make so much money, imagine how much you can make with more popular characters like Spiderman, the X-Men etc. " and this is how we got the Sam Raimi Spidey trilogy & the Hugh Jackman X-Men movies.

Yea they kids, thanks thou Google
The Blade trilogy and the "Underworld" movies will bring you up to speed on Vampires...
Stan Lee did film a cameo as one of the cops in the rave scene but it was cut from the final version
Blade is the OG superhero. All the movies are good
"Blade is the OG superhero" Lol this isn't true at all. What the hell are you talking about?
"Turned his ass into Hubba Bubba". LMAO I love that dude's humor!
Blade and the Crow were the two movies that proved comic book films could work and are still among the best made
Lore on vampires started on film 102 years ago!
NOSFERATU (1922}
Hmm .... When was Bram Stoker's Dracula made?
"I don't really know anything else about Wesley Snipes....what else has this man played in?" 😮
Wow, I feel so classic hearing that
Sighs... how Twilight has ruined vampires for a generation.
blade is such a classic! the series aint bad but nothing beats the first 1
wesley snipes is actually a trained martial artist very versed in kick boxing. the cameras at the time had a little trouble capturing his kicks becauee they were so fast so the director asked him to slow them. thus snipes changes his fighting in movie to make it slower and more stylized.. thats why the fights are so cool. a real martial artists making it deliberately look cool with a regular non high speed camera
Best Vampire movie hands down, also the start of Marvel ❤. RIP Kris aka Whistler 😢❤
Blade was the first VHS I bought and watched it nonstop.
The first scene where Blade in introduced has to be the most badass intro of a superhero in a movie ever..
These three are probably my favourite vampire movies, but the Swedish film "Let The Right One In" is certainly up there.
Hope you guys check out some of the vampire movies from the early 2000s, 90s & 80s.
yalls faces during the first fight were worth it for the whole movie lol
Blade is my favorite vampire movie .
If I can find Blade anywhere, I'm watching it. Wesley Snipes made this role his own. Snipes is very proficient in the martial arts, and he had to slow down so that the stunt men could keep up.
Passenger 57. Demolition Man. Major Wesley Snipes action movies.
By far y’all’s best reaction. You both intuit the mythos and are so funny and loving together. Viva Octobers!
If you're checking Wesley Snipes. Check the movie "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar (1995)". Wesley takes big riscks and paid off
That movie was HILARIOUS.
It's not underrated. Everyone loves Blade. People credit it with saving Marvel in the 90s. It got two sequels.
True
And it's STILL underrated.
@@The_Bleeze how is it underrated if it was successful then and just as popular now?
@Jason5818UI I think she is saying that even though people loved it then and now it should still be more popular because it really was a phenomenal movie
That's exactly what he's saying
RIP Kris Kristofersson aka Whistler.
Bout time a mf wanted ice skate up hill lol *blade references*
UNDERWORLD🔥
"Edward Cullen is the only vampire I know of" Soooooo neither of you have ever heard of Dracula? I highly doubt that.
yeah but i forgot about him! oops
Great reaction this film saved marvel studios from going bankrupt and was there first Hit.The second one is amazing too 👍
Lmfao… his parents pay for him to become a vampire! Damn near choked on what I was eating when you said that
“Turned his a** into Hubba Bubba.” 😂
I love that you guys were smiling the whole movie! A classic for sure.
Mr. October needs to watch Twilight for the channel! You may be surprised. 😂
Wesley Snipes starred in THE ART OF WAR, you guys would enjoy that Watched BLADE twice in theaters, great reaction.
2:43 The look on Mr and Mrs October’s faces made my whole day! I adore you guys 😄🌸
Fact 2 Wesley is a certified martial artist with multiple black belts in different types of martial arts
Y’all will love blade blade literally saved the mcu from being bankrupt since this was literally the start of marvel movies and Wesley snipes was the pinnacle of all of this he was amazing as blade and blade 2 is even better. Rip to Kris he recently passed he’s whistler 😢😢😢😢
Wesley Snipes also played in a movie called "New Jack City." It's definitely one of his best roles.
1 buffy its wooden stakes .
Crosses work
You cant enter home unless invited .
2 Blade crosses dont work
Silver stakes .
Garlic hurts them on here.
Wooden stakes work for Blade verse too
I enjoyed your reaction and subscribed.
Welcome aboard!
Blade I, II, & III. Passenger 57, Demolition Man, Art of War, U.S. Marshals, New Jack City, King of New York and Major League. Chaos is a good movie too but it is a Jason Statham movie with Wesley Snipes in it. This is my favorite vampire movie but right after the Blade movies are the Underworld movies with Kate Beckinsale.
Wes put BLADE and MARVEL on the map! THERE IS ONLY ONE BLADE!!!!!!
I recommend you a great vampire movie for this month. Bram Stoker's Dracula 1992 (has a great cast too).
wesley had his run as a movie star- dropzone, rising sun, newjack city, whitemen cant jump, demolition man, etc ryan reynolds is in one of these blade movies
I was 10 back in 98, the blood rave was so epic. I exercise to that song sometimes.
Blade is always relevant:)Blade is the man. Wesley has done a lot of cool movies. Check out Passenger 57. New Jack City. Demolition Man(super awesome). White Men Can't Jump(1992-not the remake from 2022 or 23). Blade Trilogy (of course).US Marshals. Major League. Rising Sun. So many awesome films, he is great. R.I.P Whistler aka Kris Kristofferson, he died a couple of days ago.
the day walker is half vampire and a supernatural Monster hunter
Yeap, Dhampir like Rayne.
"Interview With A Vampire". Stars Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Kristen Dunst with Antonio Banderas and Christian Slater. ✌️
Welcome to the Blade Family enjoy the journey
9:13 You gotta watch "Interview with a vampire"
It's not underrated at all, this movie paved the way for so many superhero movies.
Marvel lost its balls under Disney.
One of my favorite of all time Wesley Snipes films is "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar..." from 1995. Co starring Patrick Swayse & John Leguizamo.
Love you guys ❤ . Wating for STRANGER THINGS next episode and ALL OF US ARE DEAD ❤❤❤
Yeah good choice
Do you guys plan on watching the rest of the blade movies? Pretty sure there is even a tv series but its with a different actor.
None of this is true lol. Wesley did want to do black panther before blade but Denzel was never involved
Without the success of Blade there wouldn’t be an MCU
She never heard of Dracula, Nosferatu, Angel from Buffy, Lestat from Interview with a vampire, Damon and Stefan from Vampire Diaries, Lost Boys, Dusk till dawn.
You guys should react to some of these
1:09:13 oh so she knows of Buffy? I thought she only knows of Twilight
Who told it is underrated???
This film actually saved Marvel from bankruptcy. Without Blade, we wouldn't have any other Marvel movie
Kids
How? So many people say this but there's no validity to it. Financially, Marvel only made like $30,000 from selling the rights to make this movie. It didn't spark some "comic book movie renaissance" either. The majority of people going to see this movie at the time had no idea Blade was originally an obscure comic book character. It was generally just considered a vampire movie. Also, X-Men was already well into production by the time Blade hit the box office, and had been in production since 1993 or 1994. So the narrative that the success of Blade is why studios started to make Marvel movies is wrong. X-Men was coming whether Blade did well or not. X-Men is what really proved that superhero movies were still something the public wanted. And, unlike Blade, the X-Men movie had a ton of merch which actually did make Marvel a ton of money because they still had the merchandising deals.
The Lost Boys, Interview with a Vampire, From Dusk till Dawn. Some more good vampire movies. Older movies but great! Blade 2 is awesome. Stay away from Blade 3, lol.
Underworld also.
Blade changed how I view vampired as a teen. It completely blew my mind. I love this movie, has amazing action, the story is cool, it's a fun time absolutely. ❤ The blood rave scene is unforgettable.
I'm so happy you've watched Blade now sick trilogy. MCU is here because of Wesley! 🔥
Don't ever compare twilight to a grilled cheese again, I love grilled cheese. lOl.
Wesly has LOTS of class movies to check out, but yhe golden three are:
White Men Can't Jump
New Jack City
Demolition Man
I think their skin sparkles in the sunlight in only one franchise. All others it has a more deadly effect on them
Joe Rogan always talks about the MMA fight he was supposed to have with Wesley Snipes. Its something I would love to see.
All the OG's in the comments know what's up when it comes to "Blade" and Uncle Wes's movies and I agree! You'll like Part 2.
Fave Vampire movies : "Interview With.." and "Blade 2."
Thanks guys!
I love this channel. I saw this movie as a kid and re watching this with ya guys reminded me of how much I loved this movie...also reminded me how crazy gorey this movie was! Sadly the next 2 movies are not nearly as good :(
Awesome reaction guys ! And actually killing vampires with a steak through the heart goes way back. According to historical studies vampire lore dates back to 1047 A.D.
I'd first discovered Blade only a few years before this movie: from His Guest Appearances in the "Spider-Man" Animated
Series, and I was instantly Impressed with His Character!🤔I was then Surprised to see Blade get His own Movie🤨but
I was more Surprised by how Hardcore it turned out to be🤩even Blade Himself was NEVER allowed to be this Brutal in
the Cartoons! (LOL) Wesley Snipes is the Perfect Actor for Blade😎and nobody else will EVER do Better!👌R.I.P. to Kris
Kristofferson ('Whistler') who just recently passed away, IRL💔and I Recommend that Y'all watch "Blade II" ASAP!⚔
