With its Audio OS, ELK Audio offers a platform that can be used to convert classic plugins into hardware devices. With the Blackboard, the Swedish company publishes a breakout/controller board for their Elk Pi with which you can add audio, MIDI and CV / gate inputs/outputs to Raspberry Pi's.

Where did they go? Did elk get bought out or something?

which ELK-based audio-hardware is available as generic VST-host / VSTi-player (comparing "Seelake AudioStation MiNi" or "MakerProAudio DinoPark")?

ELK is not made to be an ultimate hardware VST host like Seeelake or others The problem is that every plugin developer needs to create a Linux VST version and compile for it. Maybe even make it open-source. The idea of ELK is offering software developers a platform where they can create a hardware version of their plugin or so. Well, musicians are also invited to work with it but it needs a good amount of coding compared to Seelake or so.

Thanks for this interview! From what I’ve read, they have a good relation with ReasonStudios...oh man, it would so cool to be able to run the Reason rack vst...

yeah, they made a Reason Synthesizer as a Eurorack module :) that would be a bit overkill I think for the start but its great to see that open-source synths like Dexed or OB-Xd already works great on the platform :)

@@synthanatomy yeah a bit overkill at the start, but down the line I would love to see 19inch rack modules running things like Kontakt and Reaktor....a true successor to the Muse Research Receptor...no more laptops on stage!!!!....imagine 16gigs of ram, SSD, decent processor...I'm very enthusiast about that stuff

I am waiting for Steinberg to go ahead and make versions for Prologue, Mystic, and Spectre, I'm far more interested in these.
I would love to see FM8, most of all, ported to hardware. No, Maschine+ doesn't count, unfortunately. =\
    Pigments would rock, too.

Very cool! Would it be possible to run a Reaktor ensemble with this too?

    • @synthanatomy

no, at the moment not because developers need to create a Linux version of it and compile it for the ELK system. Native Instruments so far doesn't offer any Linux plugins or so.

why does ELK not use "Bela' instead of "RaspberryPi"?

    • @synthanatomy
      @synthanatomy  4 роки тому

ELK will run in future on my different platform, RaspberryPi makes it currently very easy for the developers especially financially: offering an affordable entry + not that super difficult.

@@synthanatomy well, bela seems to be much more appropriate for audio than raspberrypi

    • @synthanatomy

@@bluename4 yes but don't forget they developed the ELK Audio OS which is designed only for audio and has a round-trip of 1ms which is super low latency. They use RaspberryPi's as the motherboard and adds hardware (ELK Pi hat, Blackboard) to offer better performances. So it's not a simple Raspberry Pi :)

For all Tim Pool’s hyperventilation it’s not censorship that’s gonna defunctulate UA-cam but piling on more advertising than the content can carry. One of the things that made/make UA-cam it’s own thing is frictionless switching between clips. The model just doesn’t work if I have to sit thru a full minute of advertising every time. I know that I don’t mean anything to you, tube, but I swear this time I’ve really almost had it…
