Some people are trying to be funny, just because they want to show off, and they just say whatever they want to say, and genuinely mean it.
But Nigel's just trying to make people happy (well maybe kinda does want to show off too HAHAH)
He's that kind of friend that likes to talk trash and shit, but helps friends sincerely.

As a Viet born in America, I absolutely appreciate how this podcast has really brought such a realistic but humorous light to Asian culture and lifestyle, especially amidst these troubling times of growing anti- Asian sentiment. I totally can relate to the struggling between “becoming a better self” and “maybe I’m losing my personality just to flatter other”, but what I came to realize is as we dress up and becoming more self-cared, we are actually doing this for ourselves! All those clothing and skin care/ make up stuff are just the way to love yourself, not to impressed anyone. I learned how to love myself more, and in terms becoming more “lovable”.
I think the trick is to try and find a balance that suits you. If u change yourself 100% and ignore your own discomfort then ur just becoming a doormat.. Losing ur personality just to be in a relationship can be dangerous thing...

Thank you Evelyn for being so vocal about your journey. I relate with you a hundred percent! The Philippines is experiencing the longest lockdown in the world. The past two months after moving and my wedding, I stopped minding my appearance which was a symptom of how bad my mental health was. I'm aware now and making intentional steps to look good because I feel good in the inside.
I totally second Mike’s opinion! Being exclusive even if in just a casual relationship/FWB is more out of mental and physical hygiene concerns 😄

Hi Evelyn, totally understand about the change. I used wear what I felt, and yes, I did feel as frayed and torn as my clothes. Of course, now I still wear those because can't go out to get new clothes... haha.

Skincare is a definitely a hobby. It's valid too! I like this podcast. It's so giggly and I like the conversations they have here. Also, Nigel, I'm also wishing you the best on dating sites/apps etc. or ask your friends to introduce you to friends/auction you to dating groups. Dating is hard these days, especially in this pandemic.
Also speaking of the last part... the fact that both of you went deep into arranging a date/marriage/future for your videographer, though hilarious but also... something random Asian families do when they see you're single.

You know that a podcast is funny if the hosts move their heads left and right in tune of the opening musical score. Evelyn is genuinely funny. Nigel is lucky to have Evelyn. Both are funny. Perfect pair.

I lived in Hong Kong for 16 years. The best city and people in the world. But westerners were shocked by how comfortable hongkongers were to comment about others appearance. From “you put on weight” to “you have a big nose”. Keep in mind you were not hearing this from a friend but from people you had just met or people you barely knew. I know it’s cultural and they didn’t mean any harm, but I don’t think it’s ok to do that. I rather have the western way, if you are not close to the person, negative comments about his/her appearance is off limits.
