  • This ruined cottage was the birthplace of Flora MacDonald, the girl who rescued Bonnie Prince Charlie and gave birth to the Skye Boat Song. Here on South Uist they preserve all sorts of facts about her which you don't learn elsewhere - did you know that she and her husband fought in the American War of Independence, on the British side? Watch the film to discover how many gallons of whiskey were drunk at her funeral!

I recently discovered that Flora is my 5x great grandmother via her daughter Isabella. Visiting Skye and South Uist is on my travel bucket list now.

She followed her heart, while young...and learned some tough lessons on her way to maturity. Lady had some brass ones. SLAINTE N HELLO FROM THE U.S. ...inspiring but cautious tale. And then so began the American Experiment. Yeah, Outlander novel fan here, but first and foremost a history fan. God Bless us all. Not Chris...but on himselfs phone. Nice video. Truly.🕊🦅❣🤗😉😎

I like it. Or rather, as a teetotaler, I am apalled by it, but I appreciate your humour.

Cool! Why not post a video about it? You'd be welcome to link to mine.

So why not make a film about it? I'm sure it would be fascinating.

“…with a totally unpronounceable Gaelic name…” - how colonial of you - just shows lack of education on your part…as demonstrated with you deliberately mispronouncing Uist in your videos and misspelling whisky.

He he! Sorry for mispronouncing things. As a fluent Welsh speaker, where things are pronounced pretty much as they are spelled, I find written Gaelic bamboozling, though I can often recognise the Celtic when Gaelic is spoken.
