You are so knowledgeable on this stuff, I'm always entertained by how thoroughly you cover the details. Thank you for putting out such a complete guide!
Absolutely awesome breakdown, Ricky was instrumental in helping diagnose issues with my V10 in Brisbane, Australia, love this content! Only items I thought were missing were AC Compressor's seem to go and clutch for some.
squeaking noise caused by the brake light?? i always thought it was from the rear sway bars when it gets cold out...i need to check that out good info!
Any thoughts on nylon screws instead of metal for the wheel well liners? Black nylon screws are available. The ones in my R8 were so corroded and some impossible to remove that I replaced most of them with nylon screws (except one spot where the head of the nylon screw seemed to big compared to the metal one. I've had nylons screws for 1.5 years without issues.
Assuming the car was taken care of, is there a mileage high enough you'd just avoid it? There's a 2010 v10 manual for sale in my country, but it's 180k km I think I wanna take a look at
QUESTION At 4:35 you talk about not mixing tire dimensions. Does that mean that if you put 20" on these you should run 305x25 rear and 235x30 front to get the same difference in radius and circumference between front and rear? Or is it something with the width of the tire?
I like people who know their stuff and make strong calls where needed. Misting shocks of course and not ok! Regardless of what Audi says. The price of oil hoses is strong but when you see how they’re made & what they do, you can probably understand why. And do you want to cheesepare on something in the mission critical category?
Yeah it does help. These days brakes never get up to temp fully due to driving habits and car use. We get so many squeals and noises caused by brakes that aren’t “cleaned” but being up to temp.
Thank you for this! Question and maybe I missed it, but when did the R8 V10 switch from the older lambo motor to the new version? I just don’t like the newer sounds. Was it 2015? Thank you!!
I’ve watched many videos. I think condition should trump everything else at this point in time. That is, if I was looking for one, I’d start with the very best examples I could find & it there were more than one car that I could see myself buying, then I’d ask your very good question! I think the V10 sound is unbeatable. If I could find a really nice example AND if it had the V10 lump, I’d be overjoyed. Unfortunately my remaining parking space won’t accommodate a car like this without compromising other things important to me (secure parking as well as proper workshop space for my vintage Suzukis!
Thank you very mich for this awesome video as well as your time and effort! One question: how is the overall engine reliability of the V10s and V8s? Thank you very much!
Funny you mention the interior. I drove a Gen 2 for a weekend a few months back and my father commented that (while we absolutely loved the car) that he was surprised how plain the interior is. Still, extremely sweet car, would definitely own one if I could afford it!
Is there anything to know about the S-tronic boxes, and you hinted in the video that the corroding pipes was a prefacelift issue, is there any issues with the plus passive shocks and the ceramic brakes?
Amazing video! Your knowledge is incredible on this car. Need your help with an AC issue that I’m currently having on my 2012 V10. Do you recommend changing the switch that’s located behind the left headlight as an option? Also, is it an easy change or even possible to do a headlight change on my 2012 for the facelift headlights?
Great Vidoes! What has been your experience with AC compressors on the V8 and V10s? I read that its better to leave them on all the time to extend their life - any thoughts?
We don’t see many compressor issues on either. Most of the failures we do see if because the owner has driven it round with no gas in the system. When that happens there is nothing to carry the lubrication oil.
Are there any emergency external door release on the R8 v8 model? my R8's car battery died out and the key hole is broken, which meant that i have no possible way to open the doors or the front truck.
Love the channel, big fan... After watching hours of content, I still dont know what to get between the Gen1 V8 or V10..... here in the US, its a 30k difference. HELP!
What comes through for me is that the presenter knows these cars inside and out and loves them. If I had one, I’d definitely trust him to give me the truth. The firm won’t be bargain basement prices but it’ll be done right. My 2 cents.
@@REPerformanceUK Did all V10s inherently have uprated control arms or wheel bearing housing, or only those from middle of July 2011 onwards (particularly from VIN 002563)?
Ricky nows the R8 inside out. Super helpful and a great guy! UK R8 owners are very fortunate to have him. If I resided in UK, I wouldn’t send my R8 anyone else for maintenance and repair. 👍
You still complaining about the damaged caused by the dealer yet the dealer actually accepted responsibility and made it right… you understand not many do such a thing😂
Does Ricky hire himself out to go look at a car your intending to buy? Charges what he charges because you’ve peace of mind you’ll be buying a decent car, ultimately saving you money……….unless you know as much as him…….I think it’s a winner……..Ricky, me and you set up a little side line in this…….thank me later……. Yeah we do purchase inspections all the time but the car has to come to us. We used to travel but found the available equipment was below standard and the sales guys would argue what we found!
What a privilege to sit and listen to someone who really cares and who knows their onions. A good mechanic is worth their weight in gold.
Thanks so much mate!
100% agree.
This is the most in depth walk through I've seen and I've got huge respect for your knowledge.
Thank you so much. Glad it helps.
No one knows more about R8’s than this man!
Thanks mate!
You are so knowledgeable on this stuff, I'm always entertained by how thoroughly you cover the details. Thank you for putting out such a complete guide!
It’s a joy to see this guy, his depth of knowledge and passion is incredible……… if I buy an R8 this guy will look after it
Thank you ☺️
Ricky has personally helped me throughout the years with my questions for my V10, and I am in the US!
Thanks so much mate!! 🙌🏼
Excellent video. I'm hoping to be a future R8 owner. It's a no brainer to bring it to you! 100% when I get one you will be working on it
One of most knowledgeable and informative vids Ive ever watched on UA-cam
It's a breath of fresh air to listen to this guy after the rubbish I have been told by a main dealer !!!

Saved some bits for our V8 vid! Thank you for the lovely words!
Awesome video, and thanks from a non mechanical guy. Very interesting to see more of the car that us plebs don't normally get to see.
I could listen to you for hours. Your knowledge is second to none. Would happily bring my car to you, if I’m ever fortunate enough to own such a car.
Thanks so much!
I am looking for r8 v10 atm..video I needed !!!
I hope it helped!!
Greatly detailed, informative and interesting. To bad i can only afford the R8 miniature and Lego versions
Thank you! The new Ferrari Lego is cool!
This is great even if I’ll never own a r8, the techy nerdiness is awesome! 🍻
Awesome, detailed content, amazing video. This is my go-to channel on the weekends or when the wife is having a barney.
squeaking noise caused by the brake light?? i always thought it was from the rear sway bars when it gets cold out...i need to check that out good info!
Both do it, the creak over sleeping policeman is normally arb bushes. The mouse squeak is the brake light.
wish we had mechanics like you in NZ
Hello I heard the gearbox sufferers on the v10s, what is your opinion??? Please reply
Great video! I can’t wait to see your v8 buyers guide
Uploaded yesterday!
Superb buyers guide, thanks guys.
Thank you!
Not into cars to be honest....but love this channel...great stuff...

Great guide, wish you would live in switzerland bro.
Fantastic resource, any chance you'll do a gen 2 guide as well?
Yeah that’s our plan!!
This guy knows his shit...hats off to you sir 👏

Thinking of selling my V8 Spyder with full dealer history & 24,600 miles, plus B&O, carbon & Led,s. Approx what should I be looking at? Then go V10😮.

Would you recommend buying a Gen 1 V10 with the R tronic gearbox please?

Any places you could reccomend in the US to maintain R8s? Western US preferred?
Unfortunately not sorry. We only know of the big tuning shops like T1 or AMS.
I just spent $12,000 to do my clutch. I made it to 61,000 miles
How was it 12k???? That’s rediculous!
Hi is the oil pipes the same problem on a 2011 lp 570 ? Love the videos 💪🏻👏🏻
Incredibly helpful. Thank you!
Any remarks or additional tips for buying the spider version gen 1?
Which audi R8 model you prefer than?
Audi has Ricky as on speed dial for R8 diagnostics 🤣🤣👍👍
Hahahaha feels like it!
Ignoring purchase price, depreciation etc are the running / maintenance costs any different between a V10 R8 and a V10 Lambo ?
Yes, huracan is considerably more expensive on parts / labour and maintaining the warranty
At a dealer? yes a massive difference…with us? no the parts and labour is the same for maintenance. It’s why we look after so many Lamborghini’s too!!
@@REPerformanceUK Thanks, that's good to know.
Great info, from a master tec. What’s the advantage of a V8? Better balanced, lighter, cheaper to service?
Great advice vid. Good job there!
Thank you!
Good show chaps, keep it up 🙂
Thank you!
Really good info, how much is a pre purchase inspection. For 2013 r8 v10 plus
We normally charge 2 hours labour for a full inspection but does depend on the time it takes.
A couple quid😂

he said that about a GEN 2?!? you would have a heart attack being in a Gen 1 if thats the thoughts on a gen 2 :)
Gen 2 interior is better than a Gen 1 but neither have ever bothered me too much as it’s about the driving!
Use bilt hamber atom Mac on your rotors before cleaning them it’s a brake safe corrosion inhibitor it stops the rotors rotting
Maybe the centres but you can’t put anything on the disc face….
@@REPerformanceUK it’s specifically designed for disc brakes rotors have a look into it

Great Video mate... So helpful and reassuring. What it then best was to test the bottom and top suspension joints on a V8?

You make me want to buy another R8.

Does anyone know when they switched the v8's to use the v10 suspension components (control arms, bushings)? I mean, what year onwards?
When the V10 was released they swapped to one type of arm. So 2009.
@@REPerformanceUK Thanks !

Should tires be replaced all 4 at the same time?
No, but tyre wear across the axle should be considered. Never much tyre makes!
