My first supercar was also an r8 v10. Coming from a 16 yo Honda into an r8 was a life changing experience, the joy, the performance, the sound and the timeless design. My first German as well. In fact, after 9 years with numerous porsches Ferraris and lambos, I can never replicate that joy and rush. Perhaps I am older or got used to supercars, but the r8 will always be special. I finally sold it after 8 years and passed the torch to allow someone else to change their lives . it’s amazing that r8 price stayed low even after 17 years, it’s the ambassador car to get the young generation into supercars, or any fun car in general. The accessible factor cannot be overlooked, that any guy with a decent credit or income can afford a car so special, is a blessing from Car Jesus himself
R8 Love!!! 💙 As a Gen 1 gated V10 owner, I can absolutely relate to your sentiments. I'm never going to sell mine. Especially when EVs will rule the roads in the next decade. The Gen 1 possesses just enough analog(manual gearbox, hydraulic steering, manual handbrake, and an atmospheric high revving engine) yet blends some of the modern technology and a timeless exterior design to make up a perfect drivers car. Yes, its far from perfect but its my perfect. A car I've dreamt about owning until I finally was able to buy one. Great video, Paul. Its all about smiles per gallon. That's what us petrol heads live for!
Yeaaah agreed! I have the V8 manual and I remember cycling to london before I had a license and seeing Pauls R8 in person and now I have it downstairs haha, quite surreal but a dream truly realised indeed! It's been a pleasure! Yours from the pic looks like a lovely spec too! Love the blue!
@@lynxafrica3677 I live in America and there were only less than 750 manual V10 coupes and around 300 manual V10 Spiders, so not very many. I'm guessing they are pretty rare in the UK as well!
Good review except the size of the r8. It’s still much wider than most modern sports cars. It’s nearly 2M wide compared to caymans with are 1.8. Length and height are similar but the r8 is not a small car by any means
The R8 came out in 2007, I was 10yo. I've loved them and wanted one ever since. I've been through a few of my JDM dream cars but one day I'd love to go German and a manual V8 would definitely be high on that list for me, maybe even at the top. Your V8 R8 in blue with the armytrix exhaust only made me love and want one even more!
I've owned and tuned a V10 for the past 11 years . Before the R8 I went through cars every 2 to 3 years. I'm still get excited every time I drive it. Need to spend 3x to get something only slightly better or faster. Very reliable all these years especially as compared to Aston, Ferrari, etc. How it can be worth a fraction of an 80s 911??
This car kick started your journey i was an early subscriber from seeing you go viral 'watford student buys audi r8 with cash made from youtube clips' in the metro paper. A time when it became evident that working with brands and youtube was actually in its own form a full time job and a way of making a living. What a ride its been. Its a special moment. Give yourself a pat on the back because you have done it. From managing social media accounts at dealerships back then. All the hard work has come together. Well-done.
Supercars of London Great Video I think it's awesome that you had an opportunity to compare an R8 V8 to your R8 V10 and I definitely agree that R8 V10s are in terms of sound and V8 are better for practicality
Greta timing, hoping to pick up a first gen V10 at the end of the month. Understand your sentiment to the V8, still haven't made me sway off the V10 so that's good 👍 can't afford a manual unfortunately but I don't actually mind 🤷♂️
@KN-jw7ts 🤣 I don't have an extra 15k to get the manual...I don't really care about other people thinking I'm cool and also I wouldn't rate the R8 as the most special car, I'm hoping to eventually get something more special which would then have to have as a manual. Also I have a V8 jag already so I'd like to experience having a V10...🤷♂️
It’s a lot bigger than a cayman as it’s still the same sort of width as the gen 2 around 76 inches I’ve had both and can defo tell you the r8 is a stunning machine but size wise it feels wide and is wider
I feel sad to see the views gone down the hill. It's to much promotion and short or long term length cars. Channel missing staff with him own cars, also missing roadtrips. Maybe even cheap cars .
these UK auto channels have done so much promotion even their army of teenage followers have figured out what they are up to. once your content bores your own subscribers you tube wont pass it on.
I did the same 10 years ago, and have wanted one ever since. 2 weeks ago I finally got one, a V8 manual in red with carbon blades, and lots of other carbon bits, and a top gear F1 exhaust. I love it, and get exited every day just driving to work and back :)
I have never been a fan of this car for some reason (the looks) its not my type. The nissan gtr though is very my type. My next car will be an audi rs5 coupe likely or sportback. R8 just doesnt look right.
I'm torn on the R8. Loved it from the Iron Man film but drove a V10 plus on a track day and the interior didn't feel supercar to me. Could have been in any Audi. Fairplay if you have that special connection with the car.

Fun fact, this particular R8 V8 appeared on Top Gear and was driven by Clarkson in the chase against Hammond in the 997 Carrera 🔥

What happened to it?

You mention the great manual gearbox, have you driven the R-Tronic, or S-Tronic.... if yes, did you enjoy those...? any pros/cons?

As a happy 2024 RWD performance owner I gotta admit: as Audi goes, the R8 pretty special bit of kit😁👌

I dont care which 1 is cheaper honestly.. im taking the V10 since that engine will no longer be made. Which will make it a rarer in the years to come
The high revving N/A V8 FSI hasn't been made for years now either..

Wait what?? Pls don’t. A manual v8 is cooler, more special than an r-tronic v10 any day of the week. What are u thinking???
