- TL;DW: Insane technical ability, awful story.

It makes me sad because when I first booted the game, I finally had that ancient RPG excitement kick in. The idea I was about to play a game I was sure to love, and that there was going to be endless content that I had never before seen. It quickly turned into despair as I realised how poor the writing was, and instead I just committed to getting through the game as fast as I could in order to see all the cool technical bits and see the ending of the story so I could properly critique it. I'll say that as much as I hate the story of this mod, the setting fascinated me, and really sparked my drive for playing Fallout again. If I do dip back into the mod, it'll likely be in private, or in the form of an ArmA 3 operation as decided in the poll.
The Mod:
its gone. fallout: the frontier has been taken down off of the nexus. Remind me to update this when the mod is put back up

But this is yassified version of the Legion. They made a woman commandeer. I’m 100% sure that they would prefer Legion to just be Roman larpers without all the ideological stuff. The Enclave on the other hand is militaristic by design, hard to do something with it, and for simpletons, militarism = fascism.

@@catpurrito5586 So what? Just because he calls them that doesn’t mean that they actually are fascist.
It’s an actual term, with damn definition, not some random insult for bad guys. Arcade is portrayed as a know-it-all that whines all the time.
The Enclave doesn’t have any specific ideology, no views on economy, social structures or morality in a wider sense. It’s just a government agency/project that keeps carrying and Bethesda uses for the bad guys whenever it suits them.
Legion on the other hand has ideology, but is definitely not the fascist one.

It's like how if you have 2 songs in a video, both copyrighted by different companies, UA-cam just kinda gives up and no one gets anything.
Me when writing my D&D campaign. Except that is just something fun among friends, not something I released to the world.
This has me wondering, if you were to upload a video with 2 different copyrighted movies playing side by side, owned by two different publishers, who would copyright claim the video? Is it possible to claim copyright over a video that contains material they have no rights to either?

I don't know if you are referencing this (and with so many episodes, it's unsurprising) but this _is_ an SNL sketch. I can't find it on youtube, but if I'm remembering correctly it had John Goodman in it. Anyway, it's just all the hokey WW2 tropes piled into one scene and the soldiers slowly realize that they are doomed because of all the death flags they raised.
It could have worked if they did the twist in Platoon where he was one of the few that did survive.
AND they follow it up with "Once this War is over how about you buy us some drinks" They dug his grave so much I'm surprised they haven't struck oil.
All we need is Will Ferrell as a drill Sergeant
Honestly, if it was played off as a comedic or fetish mod, the bad stuff wouldn't be so atrocious. Yet, someway, somehow, a person in all their moronic glory thought after seeing all this: "Yep, this is the end product with a great storyline we promised. After all, everyone wants to enslave and sexually abuse a mentally unstable girl in their serious, role-play heavy game." What a fucking joke of a mod.
Yeah it's kind of the thing with a lot of fetishy stuff, being into it in the context of pornography is one thing, but put kinks like that in a 'serious' rpg and it starts feeling less like a fantasy and more uncomfortable
@@Outcast115 I find it strange that people forget that slavery, prostitutes, cannibalism, and other very dark themes are part of the base game of Fallout New Vegas. Also the Fallout franchise isn't a fully serious rpg series, consider the alien dlc from Fallout 3, the robotic scorpion filled dlc in New Vegas, and Nuka World in Fallout 4 as they don’t feel very serious with what is in them. I also find it even stranger that people find the more fetish and dark themes of the mod feel like they don't belong when it actually makes some parts more lore friendly as the series takes place in a nuclear wasteland where most people don't have any morals and only care about their own survival and will do what they want to get what they want so those dark themes make the mod feel more like you are actually playing a game set in nuclear wasteland.
@Fork It honestly could have been far worse than that as I have seen far worse stuff than that in mods so for me that seems tame in comparison. If you have been modding these games long enough you would know that this mod might talk a lot of erotic stuff but it is just talk as the mod doesn't show any and is all bark and no bite compared to the large amount of actual mods that actually add the explicit content with full animations so I compared to them this is incredibly tame. Their are tons of erotic mods for both the Fallout and Elder Scrolls franchises that with some focused on slavery so this shouldn't be what you are complaining about for this mod as their are mods that deserve these more than this one.
@Fork I might have to agree with you if it was a mod for Fallout 4 but this is a mod for Fallout New Vegas a game that has prostitutes without any mods and a dlc where you have a bomb collar strapped on you through the dlc. It may not fit into Fallout 4 but it definitely fits in Fallout New Vegas.
@@rainbinedash9856 i guess i missed the quest in new vegas base game in which you manipulate somebody into being a sex slave who calls you master and begs you not to leave. or the npc who talked about her smelly smelly feet.
this is not a dark theme of the mod, it is a (sick) fantasy of the writers. base game never had such brazenly abhorrent themes. and the dark themes in the base game was handled maturely.
having prostitutes in a game isnt a dark theme. i would bet every open world rpg has sex workers in some shape or form, just like the real life. its just sex work; it has existed since the dawn of time and will likely exist until the end of the humanity. and, sure, base game had slavery. the legion enslaves people and you can join the legion and, i guess, technically be a part of their slavery, but the subject is never handled this fucking childishly and hornily. in fact, the game often goes out of its way to depict the legion as very bad guys, the obvious villains. you can choose to join them, but you cannot have a sex slave. unbelievable, i know.
you can have very dark and serious themes in media and games, but depicting things like slavery or abuse as aspirational rather than abhorrent is just amoral.

This mod is like a bad drug trip (based on how those were described to me by people who did drugs in their lives).

Basically this. It actually reminds me of early game development in a way, since there was a time during the transition period between “one guy in a basement” and “multitalented dev team” where a lot of dev studios didn’t feel the need to hire professional writers. Of course, those studios didn’t usually make dialogue heavy RPG’s, and they still had producers and marketers reining them in.

@@wilmagregg3131 I wouldn't say the dude was a woke sjw or what nto. Reminds me about myself when I read Japanese light novels, always feels a sense of dissatisfaction from the stories they tell. This dissatisfaction may easily turn into horrible fanfics, I mean, wattpad and fanfic.net was full of this stuff back in the day.
Truth is, dude probably had zero training to be writing competent stories, he just kind of knew what was cool and went along to put all the cool things together in his own interpretation. Ironically a JoJo VA has done work in both mods
Fun Fact: the NCR does not employ the use of the motto "Semper Fi" for a simple reason. as shown during the ending sequence of Fallout 2, during the final showdown, it is used by the Enclave. case in point, the last breath of Frank Horrigan is "Semper Fi".
now imagine for a single nanosecond your higher-up using the motto of an organization responsible for mass murders, technology stealing, dismantling a chapter of the Brotherhood of steel, genocide, slavery, liberal and abundant use of bioweaponry and genetic manipulation, with a ploy to murder everyone on the planet, then during fallout 3 disruption of a public service, public execution, shock and awe tactics, blackmail, attempting to poison the sole pure water source, to attempt another genocide.
let that sink in... imagine you're a US marine, and your colonel screams "Sieg heil!"...
Well. i guess it doesn't matter because either nobody was alive, or everybody was on a bleach diet during Fallout 2, so the collective memories of that game had been erased from existence harder than the hopes for star wars 9 to be a good movie.

The Enclave in fallout is super secretive though, average soldier wouldn’t have any idea about their mottos and customs. They could just stumble upon it somewhere and decide that it sounds good. The more important thing is that the NCR doesn’t really have much these old American army esthetic in such a way, so incorporating this phrase in particular would be weird.
@@Letos90 highly improbable. old world knowledge like this can usually only be found in old-world complexes, like Vaults, BoS HQs and barracks, Mariposa base, and Enclave controlled compounds. You don’t want a nuke to self-detonate, so there are a LOT of safety features in the warheads, set up so that failure locks the bomb out of detonation. So fucking those up could jam the system and stop the boom.

yeah, unprimed nukes are built to survive accidental releases and even plane crashes (think of all the "broken arrow" incidents, including the one where Carl Brashear lost his leg), so when people say "Nukes are incredibly delicate" the majority often thinks of "if you handle it wrong then we have homemade Hiroshima feat. Chernobyl with a sprinkle of Three Mile Island"....except, since the reactions needed to make the nuke go boom are so precise, it's more like "If you handle it wrong we're left with a VERY expensive and naturally polluting paperweight"
@@DonPatronoNow I have a weird image of poorly-primed warhead did not set off properly and go off with a fart sound effect, thank you.
Nuclear warheads have regular explosives too. So even if shooting it wouldn't make it achieve fission, it would most certainly kill everyone is the room and cause a considerable amount of radiation to leak out
