Wearing Cowboy Boots in the Rain

  • Cowboy boots are extremely versatile and it is possible to feel comfortable wearing some cowboy boots in the rain with the right treatment. I show you what I do to treat my cowboy boots for the rain and I why I choose a rubber sole on those days when the sun is drowned out by the weather.
    Here's a link to the boot treatment mentioned: amzn.to/2Lf5nbE

    Love wearing my boots in the rain and snow, love the power of sloshing through the elements without worrying about getting your feet wet. I have about 50 pairs of boots, but should probably take better care of them, like you do.

    I bought some really cheap (around £30) cowboy boots off Amazon to test them out and see if I wanted to be more serious about getting some proper boots. My first pair of boots were very very loose fitting and I felt very uncomfortable walking in them. This morning my first pair of black Dallas cowboy boots came through (around £150), invested a bit more this time. I really love these shoes and they're so much more comfortable! I think the heel is too loose but not too sure as I heard there is supposed to be some slippage. Oh well, I'll wear them a shit ton and get the gist of it, then proceed to order some more expensive and fitting boots.

    • @JeremiahCraig
      @JeremiahCraig  4 роки тому +1

      I'm glad you stuck with it. Cheap boots can turn folks away from them altogether. There is supposed to be some heel slip but the boot should also be snug around the instep and the widest part of your foot. Stick with it and you'll get used to the feeling. Welcome to the wide world of boots!

    I wish I had used that on my new Tecovas(Dillon). First pair of Tecovas...water drops left visible marks on the leather of one boot even a day later. Not rain, just a couple of drops. Other boot looked to have a defect to the leather. Waiting to hear back from Tecovas. They fit great and are very comfortable, but I’ve never had boots stain from water before. Indecently, I recently bought the chocolate Lucchese mad dog goats that you reviewed in a round toe, and they are great! Starting to move towards that toe style over square toe. Hopefully Tecovas can resolve the issue. Unfortunately, it was a limited color release so I don’t think a swap is possible. Thanks for the advice. Congrats on your recent wedding!

    Hi! I've watched a few of your videos now. I'm curious about a pair of boots (for city walking) on rainy days. I don't need anything for torrential rain, nor walking through mud and puddles. This video on conditioning is useful, but I'm wondering about boot construction, and the effect that has on its ability to handle the rain. Particularly, I'm thinking about things like no stitching on the vamp and the kind of leather and tanning method which may be the most impervious to the rain. As mentioned in the video, the sole is important as leather soaks up the water on the ground, but I'm also wondering if internal construction, like a leather insole vs man-made material being better for handling water. Have you ever thought of doing a video on all the different styles and materials which may make for a more durable and comfortable rainy-day boot? Thanks!

      Maybe cowboy boots are different, but I have experienced dress shoes seemingly absorb moisture through the leather soles. Or maybe it was sweat and salts seeping through the leather uppers from wearing them too many days in a row teaching high school classes. But there were rainy days, too. And I never properly treated those Joseph Abboud Taupe Plain Toe lace up dress shoes.
      Kirby Allison recommends a leather sole guard to prevent the sole becoming waterlogged, preventing salt damage, etc.

      When they get scuffed they do become easier to walk in. Do remember that part of owning and wearing cowboy boots is just having confidence oozing out of you, if you slip you get right back up and laugh it off. @@PUNISHERMHS_2021 Your comment about feeling confident when you are wearing cowboy boots reminded me of the evening that the kids had set a pile of cardboard boxes alight in a shop doorway.
      Guys were just watching them burn and seemed amazed when I used my boots to kick them out into the road. While I was stomping them out, it was a girl wearing cowboy boots who came over to help. It was only when we got to a large box that was burning knee high that she said, "you can do that one, your Wranglers can take the flames longer than my skinny stretch jeans". Fortunately we were both wearing leather soled boots.
