- First seawater trial of the SR4 since being completely refitted.
Launch solo from Warsash as LW from a roller trailer, recovered at HW.
Avon SR4 deluxe 1983
Tohatsu 50hp EFi 4 stroke
All new motor, electrics, steering etc
Brand new Extreme EXT500 roller trailer
Performed excellently, some tinkering and fixing of small issues (seats need better fixings for example), but otherwise a great first sea run.
Weather was 11-13 degrees C.
Sea state moderate with some wind over tide chop and overfalls at times
Winds F 3-4 WSW
That's a big enough chop on a small boat! I have sailed many miles in and around the Solent in F8+, but it feels a lot more comfortable on a 35 tonne yacht! Thanks for the recent subscribe 🤟
Thanks. Yes I was purposely testing her out in predictable chop having recently fitted some upgrades. I knew Calshot ledge would be typically Solent choppy and was actually very pleased with how the boat behaved. Very safe and predictable.
Absolutely brilliant. Thanks for that much appreciated. I was a great fan of the SR4M in the 80s and had a few over the years. Took one to the med with a 65hp Yamaha lump, way ott but its all I had at the time. 50hp is more than enough to play with. The choppy stuff reminds me of a trip across the thames from kent back to essex. I had to get back it was at night and weather turned nasty it was a real ordeal and I thought she would split with the force of the crashes back down to the water. Otherwise rock solid but you remind me they werent very waterproof either lol I would love another just for plodding about on rivers and coastal east Anglia. Be nice to find a local share boat. Cheers anyway and keep having fun :)
Hi Andrew please can you show me how your dashboard is fitted?
