NEW MIATA! We had NO IDEA we bought a 1 of 300 M2 CAR!

- When buying a car from Japan, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. THIS WAS A WIN! What a crazy car. 1-300 M2-1028's ever produced and I had no idea when I bought it. Fully built motor with MOTEC andI ITB's! What an early Christmas.
The wipers definitely work
Hahaha
That’s all that matters
I like the well produced content, I like the homegrown wife filmed content, I also enjoy the breakdown of drift runs from events you used to do. I’m sure I’ll like the new UA-cam guy content when they start making videos too.
what this guy said.
+1 on the more Drift Run Breakdown videos - those were great
A wife helping is all a husband ever needed
I think it’s awesome how rtr isn’t dicks about you and Adam filming and doing your thing while competing. I think it’s a step in a crazy direction for marketing for rtr and you and Adam
Vaughn's such a good guy, he definitely knows this kind of stuff is good for the brand
Free advertising, don’t be a dick and it’s all good
@@jayzah I think Vaughan is probably one of the best guys to run an fd team. Especially since he has gone through it before, hes not just some guy with momey running a team.
I know I love RTR more because of these two
Working in marketing, soooooo many companies need to take note of THIS and understand people notice.
It's one of the most overlooked moves that separates brands like RTR from the rest.
Super cool find! As a miata nerd, definitely jealous of any M2. That bolt coming off the oil pan looks like it used to be for an oil drain, almost 99% of boosted miata’s use that spot in the pan. Guessing the car was turbo at one point.
Seems like it would have to have been...
1st thing I thought too.
Hey Chelsea, you should build this Miata and race Adams CRX in a time attack on his compound. You can get some content building it and bragging rights when you beat him! It’s a win-win situation lol.
i have some Brochures from that vintage. your model is the competition one from factory. it translates as this.
M2-1028 "Street Competition" Roadster AKA Clubman-2 (FEB-94) Limited 1/300
M2-CORP released it's third Roadster in early 1994, based on the original "Jinba Ittai" concept made by Toshihiko Hirai. This was the track ready Competition Roadster. (The USA got a simpler version known as the R-Package. ) Offered in Chaste White or Brilliant Black only, this Roadster used the new 1.8L powerplant with upgraded pistons, and camshafts, and other similar goodies as the previous 1001, & 1002. However this Roadster had an output of close to 140hp!! It included 14" Eunos Factory Rims with a unique gunmetal paint with polished lip, this same lighter hollowspoke was found on some of the US-Spec Miatas. Some of the features here were a new set of lightweight side mirrors, MOMO Steering Wheel, Centerless console, Racing seats, racing tow hook, Lightweight Aluminum Shock Tower Brace, a set of front & rear lower lip spoilers, (R-Package) a newly designed (Aluminum) "Duck-Tail" trunklid with integrated spoiler (the M2-1028 trunklid was made from aluminium and weighed only 7.7-lbs. very light weight from original lid 15.5-lbs. ). Similar design used on the NB's. Also came with a 6-point rollcage, but no soft-top (instead, you got a tarp that stretched over the cage). With optional FRP Hardtop with plexiglass rear window for more weight savings coming in at only 19-lbs.
Garage Vary is actually making those bodykits from the M2 CORP days. that is a really really rare car now since most ones are trashed, also that is a factory outspec'd one, the roof and side windows are vintage M2 optionals only, so most cars did not have them, also I think your car is around 150-160hp, since the 1028 came with 140hp from M2. those itb's should be making 10-15hp more.
I didn't know these existed and dug into them. It's interesting that they put a middle console back in and removed some of the goodies. Absolutely great car none the less.
@@beratsbuilds yeah, they had a few models, the 1001's and 1002's were the most known about, but each one directed at a niche, the 1001's were weekend racers, the 1002's more of a gentleman's weekend cruiser, the 1028 that Chelsea has is a comp car, but they made a lot of different kinds, even a coupe and sedan versions of miatas. the 90's were crazy.
with the 8500 rev limit i'd almost put money on it having a maruha stroker kit and maruha cams. that's a very special little engine. this thing would look sick skidding around the PA oval ;) M2 was Mazdaspeed before they were an official part of Mazda.
Killer find bro!! That “bracket “ looks to be where we typically add an oil drain and looked like a threaded bung with a bolt in it. Just from the quick glance we got. Hard to tell
This ^
Yessir! I believe that to be true also. My miata is boosted and typically that would be the drain for the turbo
Awesome pick up. I love the lore of the M2 cars. Not only were they limited to 300 each but also sold via lottery. This example has had most everything but the hardtop, roll bar, tow hooks, oil cap, and door cards changed out but looks like a great build regardless. I would love to pick this up from you if you ever part ways..
This has the hardtop and roll bar and I’m pretty sure the towhooks
@@chelseadenofa yep I was naming the original pieces left. I think it’s a killer find, its definitely been treated right regardless!
he just posted a feeler on his facebook possibly selling it right now
Maybe set a lap time at the lz compound 😂
Good idea
What an awesome score! The sound alone is probably worth the price you paid! I'm really interested in what's done to the motor! It has to be something special if the old owner went with a Motec!
That thing is SICK, I didn’t know those existed.
Definitely has some sort of built motor or the rods would be gone at 8000, also that bolt on the side of the pan is a oil drain blocked off.
Can’t wait to see this thing on the dyno sounds wicked 😊
Nice shout out to Ben, he's the hookup on miata parts for sure and he shreds on the track.
Chelsea in Japan drifting ebisu would be crazy content🤯 love the Miata. Didn’t even know this version existed. Pretty cool it comes the factory like that
Oil pan with the bolt in it looks like it was previously used for a turbo drain line.
Was about to say the same. That’s a pretty common spot for an oil return
I'm so excited for more content to come out, whether it be FD, random vlogs or breakdowns of drift runs. I can't express how much I want to see more videos, the FD content is absolutely next level and the breakdowns are in depth so I feel like I'm learning.
Super pumped that you're getting a new video guy and I just hope it continues during the next FD season!
Glad you like them!
You know we’ll watch whatever you post! Stoked for the Miata content.
Hey Chelsea about that long bolt sticking out on the engine. It makes me think it’s not the original engine and actually a original power steering motor. When you delete the ps pump u have to keep a few bolts in to prevent oil leaks. I don’t know for sure but maybe it’s a later 1999 NB engine with the better flowing head?
Those are 20v silvertop ITBs
love having the videos back, thanks chelsea! loved the RTR building tour too. Super rad to see how the operation works
i really miss the driftschool and all the PARC content.
all the lowbudget stuff i loved too.
can you do a suspension knowhow and driftsetup diy series?
just some random video ideas: low power drifting, drift testing different cars, how many laps will it survive drifting, testing cheap drift car fixes
If you look back on his channel a bit he already did a mini series i guess you could call it where he did a breakdown of spring rates and different alignment adjustments and how they relate to adding/removing grip. Great videos and super helpful!
This vlogs are SICK. I think the best time to upload them is the day of practice or qualifying you did that once this year and it hyped me up for the event that weekend. Hope it helps.
I absolutely love NA’s with ITB’s. Niiiice pickup!
Really cool car! I have had 4 miatas. I was getting into Autocross heavy then the BMX cause back surgery now it's RC cars cause I can't push a clutch no more. Huge bummer. Have you ever had xidia 949 racing suspension? I assume your going with the BC but man did the Xidia's ride nice for a street car with 500lb front springs and 350 in the rear. The rebound knobs actually made a huge difference being able to go from like 7 clicks for street then bumping it up to 9 clicks it was ready to do track days.
Any glad to see the Miata getting love. New subscriber here.
You should take it over to Jack Cecil. He knows a bunch on these odd Jpn imports.
And Ben FTW
I think I've found your car here doing some track work and a talk about its parts. If you can translate, it might give you some more info on the car - ua-cam.com/video/TLe_0d393Q4/v-deo.html
How does the ITB's compare to the turbo? I've torn what to do with mine. Currently its a vintage build setup with some cool M2 parts mainly from the M2-1001.
DAMN THAT IS SO COOL. I reached out to him to see if we have any more information.
If you drive tight circuit or sub 60mph windy roads, I would shoot for 150whp NA. If you want a fun street car I would shoot for 250whp turbo.
I went on a M Car deep dive a few years ago. Some of them had dry sump. That bolt off the block may have been used to plug it up. I had a pdf file of one of their manuals. If i dig it up I’ll share
Wish I never sold my NA, it was mint and had long headers and it sounded sooo good, such fun cars.
Rudnick....@Ricer Miata. Should collab he would freak out over that Miata. Very noice!!!
1028 got the 1.8 with upgraded pistons and cams good for 140hp was called the 'street competition roadster" or the clubman in the us they got a simpler package called the R Package
Def Toyota 20v throttles.
Looks like the oil pan had a turbo oil drain added at one point(maybe it was for a breather can drain setup?) But the bolt is just a lazy attempt to plug the hole.
Ask ol' bo gautti about it. I'm sure he knows a bit. Real surprised the ecu was mounted and not just flopping around on the floor 😅
That thing is clean ASF! Congratulations I'm buying a Miata next week for the wifey lol
I own a 2002 Laser Blue NBFL, wich is a 1 of 151, the previous owner also had no idea about it's rarity.
Can we have a drinking game where we take a shot every time you say "Like" LOL Its welcoming to have you back on video duty buddy much love!
So that’s definitely a na8 block and 4age 20v itb’s
Maybe ricer miata might know about the engine..... or gingium or Taylor ray maybe
It's probably built, you would have 2 take the oil pan down and look at the rod caps and rods, put a camera down a bore and see top of piston...
It has a plate on a weird place, doesn't mean at all that it's a genuine M2 car. With all those mods, it's irrelevant now anyways.
it's so nice hearing an itb miata scream to 8,500
hits wipers thinking its blinkers "I'm so American" lol
Nice buy, I got a 84 mustang svo turbo really good condition
I always prefer the low production casual content.
Calipers are off a fc rx7 and the bolt in the drain pan looks like it’s there just to plug an oil drain for a turbo
I feel like Adam knows a dood who could tell you something bout your new car
Would love to see Tayor Ray join RTR. Your such a great mentor to your team. A true leader, and the best pro drift driver ever! You rock Chelsea!
Love this 👌
the bumper budget would be out of control
@@yota8325 No Bumper - no Problem. Like T-Rays Miata 😀
Pretty cool how I see you on the miata groups on Facebook.
Is that bolt just a really ghetto plug for an old turbo set up oil drain
Yeah that's what I think. It looks like it goes into the sump, classic placement for miata turbo drain. I could be wrong but don't think that engine setup came with the car originally. So who knows what the origins of thay engine is.
i gotta know what is in this engine it sounds beautiful. This is what i want to have in my NA so bad
Today I learned that Chelsea’s wife is also named Chelsea😂
Love the shout out to bens miata parts super awesome guy and great drifter
Dont think the itb are 20v
Look different to the ones i have anyway
Maybe it was turbo at one point or a oil pan that was on a turbo car and they plugged it?
Miata is badass but WTF YOU HAVE A Z3!?
“I’m not gonna beat it or anything”… proceeds to make 7k or 8k rpm pulls 🤣🤣 and launches it
Track usage
I had a 96 escort gt and it came with a Mazda 1.8 dohc and it was awesome. The sound of yours reminded me of how it sounded!!!
That’s the fastest looking na miata I’ve ever seen
Please, don't do anything weird with it.
Best sounding Miata I've ever heard! Super sick find!
Sounds like an exhintake cam swap
So Chelsea will give the car to Chelsea! Awesome little hot rod, some autocross to stretch the suspension and have some fun!
hell yeah man love the new car can’t wait to see some new videos keep killing it man. Just giver 🤟
Dope find.
And I'm diggin the more content
I love the vlogs and would love more content
what did this car cost is my question.
7:00 - NOT A BIG OPEN FILTER GUY??? Literally the first thing you do in rental car, is to throw away the airfilter so that you can get intake noise? :D
Love this style of video, i love that ur messing with miatas even more. They really dont get the love they deserve, big respect to you chelsea for messing with them.
I remember talking to you back in 2010 or 2011, you were at D1GP in Chicago. You were driving the BMW, I came to talk to you because of your bike as well as your input on the Miata. Would love to talk to you again and hopefully meet up with both the Miatas together one day.
Nvidia 4090 exhaust? 8:00
More Miata content pretty please I love it
Bring back the fd e46!!!
Could that random bolt be blocking an oil drain? Maybe it's a bigger aftermarket pan. Maybe it was boosted once upon a time.
How heavy can a Miata trunk lid be that it is worth having an aluminum trunk lid I mean yeah bragging rights but that is 100% it, fully ricer
I love that you love Miata's
i think i rem seeing a vid of you drifting a miata on some pavement by a cornfield
Have you always lived in Florida???? I thought your drift school was up north way
love the itbs and the stroked or bored idea!!!! i chose 45s webers for my toyota twin cam... i deleted every electronics with a 2 phase pneumatic distributor for better HIgh low rpms !!but might rewire the sparks cause i cant take full potential!!! motec is quite expensive tho!!!!
If i had to guess, the bolt on the oil pan probably indicates that it was previously turbo'd, and thats how they plugged the turbo drain.
Nice buy. Have fun with it.
I realize when you buy stuff from japan. Sometimes you get more than you bargain for and good deals.
Shit yeah looking forward to some content denofa!!! Hands down the raddest drifter in FD love your style and the way you throw that RTR Mustang around
Nothing like ITBs
I went to an SCCA race event in Phoenix one time and as I was walking over the metal walkway that went over the entry to the pits a car was driving in after coming off the track and it was loping so hard that it shook the walkway. I thought for sure it had to be one of the old Mustangs that was on the course and when I looked down to watch it go into the pits I was blown away to see a Miata 😳
Those wheels fit NICE. Also, since the holes are already there, I'd add a basket to the trunk lid, for that functional rally spec look
If my memory serves me right I remember watching you rip around hialeah in a miata like a million years ago. so sick
Sick. Thing is sweet. Im not big on miatas but this kinda makes we want a lil go kart.
This is a very cool Eunos, congrats man, a few things to note, some of these have more than likely been answered already, 9:14 that's where the air con pump has been removed, the bolt is sealing an oil passage. As mentioned previously, that could well have some maruha parts on it, possibly even a crank, if you are doing the timing belt in it, check the length of the crank snout, the maruha ones are longer than the stock one (6mm stock 14 mm Maruha), if it is, it could be an 87mm crank, cams could be anything. very cool car though sounds incredible.
Thank you for your info, I measured the stroke at 85mm. So stock stroke.
I just watched the Dyno video after that and figured it's pretty stock inside! 😅
take off the valve cover and see if it has springs and valves
also maybe to identify the cams
rods technically break at like 8k rpm so its either a old stinky kamikaze tune or it has rods
Say Howdy Get Rowdy Mofos!!!! We getting more Denofa content!!!!!!
Rad come up. Maybe you could do a time attack lap around the LZ compound to see where it lays.
We're all hooked we need like 25 more videos just this week LOL
So sick dude I had a 93 just like your moms car or like your grandmas car I can’t remember
Need to swap my rusty Canadian miata for a clean American miata
Love the videos laid back chill vids with info 🤙🏻
This is the best YT content I've seen in months.
Hopefully we can see it up close at dori lounge someday 😊😊😊
Looks like an oil pan that was tapped for a turbo oil drain that they just plugged up.
I saw this thing come back through auction like 8 times cause no one would buy it. Good to see someone picked it up but I hope you didn't pay too much...
So awesome to see a Chelsea video pop up in my notifications! Popcorn 🍿 time
The nostalgia in your face when you ripped it was priceless
That bolt looks like an oil drain location? Maybe the motor was turbo at some point.
