Congratulations on the engagement. Very interesting observation about why your in dreams you are not being able to read numbers but in lucid mode you can. I'd guess this is because numbers have to be learnt and interpreted by your conscious brain. I wonder if this is also the case for language and characters as I might be biasing myself but at the moment I can't remember reading anything in non-lucid dreams. As for language whilst I do "speak" and can understand what people are saying in retrospect this maybe giving and understanding the intent of what's spoken rather than actually speaking and hearing words. It might actually be more of an instinctive understanding rather than an interpretation of the language; this would certainly align more with subconscious capabilities. Noises on the other hand are definitely audible.
