For my usual audience this new format isn't intended to be permanent or anything btw. Went this way for a mix of reasons. The main one being I just don't have access to my camera this week lol. So using this as a chance to experiment. I personally like how this video turned out though. While I personally wouldn't be opposed to making more like this in the future, I also do like my normal green screen style. Let me know what you think. Both styles have their pros and cons for sure in my head.
surprised you didnt mention how for metalmark if you lose or destroy a shock knife you need to send a written apology to the designer before you can print a new one.
I would have! Main reason I didnt is cause its the main thing brought up about the Metalmark and I wanted a different fun fact. And on a much lesser extent I mentioned it in my Lancer overview video so I *at least* have it spoken out loud somewhere on my channel lmao.
PS there’s a Kickstarter for a Lancer turn based video game! Lancer: Tactics
Lancer Tactics is very cool. Would have given to their kickstarter if I had more money to throw around.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
this actually sounds like a setting I'd enjoy a lot. Probably stems from the lack of a new Titanfall game and me already being a Gundam and 40k fan
Which if you like those things you'll find stuff to enjoy in Lancer. The later half of the mechs are all made by Smith Shimano. Which take inspiration from Japanese style mechs like Gundam. Then I know one of the creators and lead artists is a big 40k fan.
all of the art looks like titanfall took inspiration, the loading screens with industrial titans and the advanced artbook are so cool@@glueboy
ISP Northstar hits that vibe for sure.
Additional lore fact for lancaster: it's model is actually a civilian cargo hauler. It is the sci version of a truck
One of the many reasons to love the Lanny
That shit about Monarch tracks in game too lol. A lot of teams try to have a balance of offense and defense, with a defensive frame, offensive frame, close range skirmisher, and either a tech or artillery support unit.
The Monarch has no direct counters. It not only stays completely out of harm's way just by virtue of incredible ranged firepower, it can also stay behind cover, safe from snipers. And it's not exactly FRAIL either, one berserker slipping through can easily be outmaneuvered and dealt with by your team, assuming it isn't a pile of scrap before it arrives.
It's the strongest single frame in the game imo, based on pure flexibility. And I HATE the damn thing.
Only bit I could possibly see fucking up the Monarch is solid hacker mech? It has a standard E defense and could force it out of cover or force heat build up if it's using the NHP and the Rank 3 rocket weapon and hasnt cleared the heat yet. But yeah, the Monarch is just one of the best mechs and one of the best mechs to jump into as well. I mean, if you want to use missile weapons, you level at least 1 license level into Monarch.
@@glueboy That kinda applies to nearly every mech though tbh, Witches have such an insanely high to-hit on their tech attacks that even high E-defense frames get completely fucked over by em. The only ways to deal with a witch iirc are to focus it down quickly (which monarch excels at), or to take a black witch lol.
It feels so bad playing Gorgon sometimes bc Scorpion is great in concept, but have you EVER seen a witch miss a tech attack? Lol
Monarch is far from the strongest frame in the base game lmao, frames like empakaai, gorgon or iskander are far worse from a bakance standpoint. Its size 2, which means it can't hide itself as easily as a size 1, so just shoot it with a countersniper or flank it with melee NPCs. I've never had trouble countering Monarchs
Couldn't you just teleport, banish, hack, or ambush the thing? There is a height cap in game, which means you can't fly away, and even if there weren't, that's just asking to get sniped, Barb cannoned, Kidd lasered, and missiled by other Monarchs.
Robo-Pharah ain't nothin' imo.
Surprised you didn't mention that the Tortuga's Watchdog AI is implied to possibly be sentient, machine mind intellegence (like an NHP that doesn't have a casket or a cycle schedule), and is being investigated by Union's departments of Science and Human Rights
The early metalmarks were apparently developed for the Second Committee, making them one of the oldest playable frames in Lancer. Notably compared to other known early frames (Genghis Mk1, Enkidu, Sagramatha), the metalmark is size 1 instead of size 2, and might represent a transition point in the history of mechs in Lancer. Also, as others pointed out, the metalmark's knives are so bespoke you have to write a letter of apology if you ever need a reprint
On a less annoying note, the Monarch implies some interesting connections between HA and SSC; "Young John" is a character refered to elsewhere who is the inheritor of the HA corpomonarchy, who was cloned and raised by SSC on contract with HA.
I forgot where I read this or if it's even monarch but Monarch's firepower is only limited by the required amount of missiles a mech should only be allowed to carry by the union.
Been thinking about getting into Lancer for a while now
When I heard it had a lot of DNA from 4e D&D that made me excited because I loved 4e
Wild for a game as lambasted as 4e is, all the best ttrpg projects are so inspired by it lol
@@glueboy I never understood the hate that 4e got
I get that it was quite different from previous editions but, honestly, I would almost every change they made (too me) was a damned good one
There’s very little they did with 4e that I didn’t like
Monarch pilot here, TLALOC finds your tears delicious.
The Raleigh is named after Sir Walter Raleigh and is pronounced as RAH-lee for future reference. like WALL-E with an R
Counterpoint: I like the way I say it better lol. Its too stuck in my brain I'll be real I wouldn't hold me to fixing that.
@@glueboyAll good you can say it however you want, I just wanted to give you the context for its naming
All good bro. I do appreciate that end. I knew it was gonna be something military/naval related but tbh all I had related to the name originally was the protag of Pacific Rim lol.
@@glueboyYeah all the IPS-N chassis are named after Naval Commanders, all of SSC are Butterflies, all of Horus are named after monsters from the original D&D Monster Manual and all of the HA chassis are Military Conquerors
@@glueboy lol, I'm living in Raleigh, NC and I'm amused by the contrast between "let's make sure I don't mispronounce Stortebeker, anyway, here's 'Raily.'"
Jaeger kunst literally translates as "hunter art". (Side note, there is a metro stop in Brussels called Kunst Wet. There is just no safe way to say that. Say with a Flemish accent it's one kind of wrong, say it with an English accent it's a different kind of wrong.)
That is hysterical lmao. I love that.
Finally someone talking about my boi Atlas.
The mourning cloak is made of people...... ITS MADE OF PEOPLE!!!!!!
"Regular deposits of genetic material"
Hence the "Mourning" part of the name. The thing's a walking graveyard and your best efforts are only adding your enemies to the pile. Very cool.
12:05 It’s called Mechfinder?….god Paizo really goes hard with their “Finder” brand. 😅🤣
Technically its 3rd party but I get what you mean lol. And despite the name its also going to come out for 5e as well. And for extra context. I got some joke beef with one of the Co-Creators over the Monarch being their fav mech.
@@glueboy Oh snap it is coming to 5e?
Man there's so many games and brands in the TTRPG scene that I am just completely oblivious to. XD
Another fun fact! The Orcus' head is based on White Gilnt!
Moar. Lancer. MOAR!
It’s fun to think of Lancer as a DAoT setting. The tech is so bananas.
Honestly Lancer is one of the few settings with tech more bizarre are extreme than 40k. It’s awesome.
Planning my own campaign right now over on Discord. They will encounter some Horus mechs on their first mission.
Just came from your stream with @BadLuckGamer It's really nice to see lore videos that aren't delivered in a dour faux-British accent like it's a church sermon. It actually sounds like you think the content is cool and interesting!
Thanks man!
Start to finish perfection 👏🏾🥹
Just you wait till I get to the mechs that revolve around the Eldritch Math God or War Crimes Incorporated. *Somehow* it gets wilder. Drink Deep and Descend bro.
I still have a copy of the Emperor playtest, and I can confirm there are excerpts from the Quran
Thanks for the confirmation!
Me learning that the Monarch is in lore the best mech:
**i'm going to ignore that**
Agreed. I'm just gonna cope and pretend it said Raleigh or Pegasus or something...
@@glueboy how about this? The pegasus IS the best artilery mechs put there. They absolutly rend everything in range and outright delete the toughest targets from reality and are supernaturally precise and evasive as if they knew the future. But being top tier horus bs they arn't well known, easily commercially available or even recognisable most of the time.
The mech amateurs know how deadly the monarch is, but the real pros, the veterans who went on secret missions, faced metavaults and cascading NHPs...They know who are the real threats. And it come packing a not-gun that their sensors don't catch despite it being right here in front of their eyes"
Raw-lee. Both the British and Americans agree on this. I do not understand why the Lancer community keeps calling it Ray-lee or Ray-lay
I at least have a couple reasons lol. 1st is a pure lack of care. I can't bring myself to care about my own or others pronunciation of English unless it is another human beings name, or its so butchered the original word is lost. And 2nd, and most importantly. It sounds better lol.
@@glueboy I come from North Carolina where our capital is Raleigh. Imagine millions of Southerners saying Raaaay-a-Laaaay everytime they give directions or moan about politics
I'm a simple gal. I see Caliban in the thumbnail, I click.
I love the 'Human lives are numbers' boi.
Truely one of the best mechs
@@glueboy When is a human not a number? When that number has been painted onto the wall thanks to a speed-ejected round from a breechloader :D
...Since the Atlas is a power suit and not a full massive mech. Can you...put an atlas pilot inside a larger mech with NHP support and then jettison the atlas pilot out to then fight alongside the mech?
As sick as that would be, the designers did put a stop to that idea lol. I just looked if that was possible cause I could personally see an Atlas being worn while piloting a mech with a cockpit size upgrade. But after some searching I found that page 82 of the core book says only 1 mech can be active at a time for a Lancer. Once you activate one you hold a license for, the other shuts down. So no 2 mech builds lol. Would get real broken real fast since it would make players always level into 1/2 size mechs for that purpose so *I guess* it makes sense. Personally I would allow for a transport in case you need to use it in a non mech sized environment.
@@glueboy Ok then you actually just have the atlas be another player who is a surprise for the enemies who then is released mid fight :v some sort of mechanical angle to sorta sneaking them in for a surprise might be fun. I wouldn't say it's a mandatory thing to always have them in there but it could be fun if you mitigate it and agree with another player.
0:20 Dude. Star wars have details? Are you sure about this...
funnest fact, you'll never get to play any, cause nobody fucking runs this game
As someone who has played multiple games of Lancer, campaigns and oneshots. Untrue lol.
@@glueboy
I've been unable to for a year
A genuine shame. I know a large portion of the community plays online. In my own experience Lancer plays best on something like Foundry or Roll20 (I prefer Foundry). But its also non D&D problems lol. Everyone likes the Dragon game so convincing people to play the *hundreds of objectively better and more intresting games* is a nightmare lol.
@@glueboy
Oh yea, I mean online.
I can't hope to find a DND group in rural Germany either
If you ever solve the pure rural part the one thing I know about the German ttrpg scene is you'll have some luck if you got into Shadowrun lol. I could never cause tbh I aint a fan of the actual game itself. I do hope you can find a Lancer game eventually my man. Or at the very very least, the Kickstarter Lancer Tactics video game thats gonna drop next year will help fill that void just a tad.
