    Coalcracker Is AWESOME! You made that look so easy... but I suspect that what we are seeing is the result of making A LOT of these... and practice REALLY DOES make PERFECT! Thanks for sharing this with us, Dan!

    Back when my son was younger he was interested in forges and we built one with a charcoal grill, added a cheap hair dryer "bellows" and was barely able to get enough heat to bend some metal. It was fun and educational. It would be pretty cool to access to a setup like that. Thanks for this and all the other informative videos.

      Did you use briquettes for fuel source if so that is what your problem was on why it did not get hot enough you want lump charcoal which you can make with the same process as char cloth but with wood hope that helped if you want propane forge there are many videos on UA-cam that will help that is how I made mine

    • @1kings1918
      @1kings1918 3 роки тому

      @@dameongray6412 Yes charcoal briquettes. We had fire brick flanking a 1" cast iron pipe with holes in it that the hair dryer was blowing into. We actually got an old screwdriver hot enough to bend over at a 45° angle to use as a tool on adjusting drum brakes. I think the problem was we needed to flow a lot more air than the number of holes I had in the pipe.

      I built several forges. I think the charcoal may have been your issue or trying to heat to much area of the coal to be exact. Inside the grill around where the hair dryer blows in needs to be concentrated to best utilize it. You do this by building a fire box or for cheap forges I use a couple hardwood logs then just pile the coals up 8nside them. Place the metal in the brightest area of the fire. I use a brake drum over rocks with a channel dug in the earth and a crank blower. I do use high grade smithing coal though

    🤣👍, I had the cast alloy 'tongue' of an old leather belt of mine break.... I cut a strip out of a wall-mount for a washing machine then worked & polished it before installing it on the buckle. I use that belt almost every day😊. I gotta get me a forge for making some simple knives though 😍👍

    I use a blanket pin - a store bought one - to block the zipper on sleeping bags. About 3”-4” from the bottom end of the zipper, down by the foot box, insert a blanket pin across both tracks of the zipper. Keeps you from the frustratingly frustrating procedure to have to needlessly wrestle with the nether end of the zipper. Especially in the middle of the night.

    My grandfather built ships during both World Wars, and built his own motel to earn a modest income to retire on.... He had a complete forge with hand cranked billows and a massive anvil.... when he passed his wife at the time sold everything and we got nothing. I would have liked to have had some of that.
