This piece is included in her new album "Fantasia" on DGG. Yuja mentions in the commentary that her first encounter with classical music was the Disney Film "Fantasia" shown in Peking. It includes the "Sorcerers Apprentice" and I believe "A Night on Bald Mountain" conducted by Leopold Stokowski, but this dance sounds like it was also in the film. Any thoughts?
What I can't believe is how such a small stature person and a female can deliver gargantuan melodies and harmonies. Her greatness is in her straight forward playing, free of false rubatos, and her dynamic controls . She also has a lot of deep musicality. I can't play 2 melodies at the same time as she has done; it.
I have the exact same complaint when it comes to videoing musicians... SHOW THE HANDS!! That being said, I love Yuga Wang's playing, an this performance is excellent... in spite of the shoddy camera work :)
Have you ever seen a more exuberant, more gifted, more sensual woman in your life? I honestly have not and know you have not. Yuja is my love for eternity. Never did I see in my life such a concordance between physical beauty, skill, and a magnificent soul! She has stirred in me a true longing to bond again with a woman, after so many years of asceticism. Yuja is a true piano genius, and musical genius, while when I say that, I do by no means exclude the great Evgeny Kissin from my admiration. They are both today the Demi-Gods of pianism, for sure!
+busylifemeto 69 ? What an appropriate number for you ... Having wet fantasies about little Asian girls, you dirty grandpa ? Take it easy, your shriveled old manhood might fall apart ;)
In these videos, her playing is remarkable for its ease, evenness, steadiness of tempo, and uniformity. What is especially here is her beautiful delicacy from about 2:45. She is an amazing virtuoso - but she doesn't seem to have a certain magic, poetry, something; maybe I am looking for something that is not necessary, but in other performers, there is a spark of individuality, something that conflicts with uniformity and evenness.
thanks 4 this up, i just wish there was a good copy of this online. i love yuja's playing, but the person behind the camera is filming this like it was a home video and the recording is scratchy. T_T
Her teacher, Gary Graffman believes that she is one of the "most naturally gifted" pianists he has ever encountered. When Gary would listen to her play, his recommendations were to "style" and suggestions to get to the "bottom" of the Russian style, which he was expert. I don't think her ever "criticized" her technique. Yuja is incredibly beautiful and sexy too, and that makes some people angry. If I have concerns about Yuja it is that I want her to "take better care" of her equipment and hold to no more than 2-3 Prokofiev concertos/year. She should do more Mozart and Beethoven because they are usually easier on the hands and wrists. I know there is in incredible demand for Rach 3 and Rach 2 of course and she has no choice but to do those multiple times/month. She is in incredible demand. I just don't want her to ruin her hands and wrists. Of course I love LOOKING at her and listening to her play. Most honest people admit that. She is a magnificent artist. Sanjosemike
I asked a classical pianist I know. He replied, "I have seen this before and I do not think it is improvised... Though if it was she is incredible. I don't know this version of the piece so I am not 100%, but I think if she was that good at improv she would do it more often and work it into her shows..."
She also played on a Bosendorfer when she did a recital/recording when she was 11, it’s available to watch on UA-cam, I believe it has better sound quality too.
NO, she isn't the modern iteration of Liszt, and this rendition is nothing compared to Horowitz. Not even in the same universe. Simple, factual analysis, simply arrived at.
This is NOT the original Horowitz version - it has been adapted by Ms. Wang who is indeed very pretty and dressed to kill but is NO Horowitz (or Argerich, Richter, Ashkenazy for that matter). She is a talented pianist, like so many others.
why do you think she is "improvising"? the transcription was done by Liszt, later modified/completed by Horowitz - do you believe she has left the score and did her own music?
Tingles down my spine throughout the entire performance. This must be how cats feel when you stroke them above the tail. Wow! Forget sex, this was so much nicer!
Not bad, but lets face it who can possibly follow Horowitz in this devilish transcription!. One however has to admire Yuga Wangs pluck, she is undoubtedly a formidable talent.
You can have the greatest, most beautiful performer on a world class instrument and then comes along a halfway house camera person who screws the whole thing up!!!
Best young lady pianist in the world today, Miss Yuja Wang.
Still the case 10 years later
My god! Yuja always surprise me! Amazing rendition of a terribly difficult piece.
The annoying flash light notwithstanding, what a feat of touch! BRAVO!

How can anyone not like this? It is, quite simply, amazing in a wonderfully spontaneous way! A once off.
Yuja, You are the very best!

Female?

I love Yuja Wang!!!
Yuja must be very proud. Nothing she cannot play - and sooooo beautiful

***** You forgot Dame Argerich. But they are in the same heaven anyway :)
Sensual ?! Physical beauty ? This scrawny little Chinese girl ? Well, I guess de gustibus et coloribus ...
+spind si tacuisses philosophus mansisses
While we are at it.
+busylifemeto Yes, keep trying, little boy, one day you might actually see a girl naked ...
+busylifemeto 69 ? What an appropriate number for you ... Having wet fantasies about little Asian girls, you dirty grandpa ? Take it easy, your shriveled old manhood might fall apart ;)

Grande Yuja!!!

Love the music and the performance. Hard to watch with all the camera flashes!
.
@Sire743 Agree with you on everything except "with your eyes closed", she is just an eye opener in every sense of the phrase!
It's not Liszt. It's Camille Saint-saëns that composed this piece. Very nice performance, and all from memory. Amazing.
OMG... THIS I IS CRAZY.. CRAZY AND CRAZYYY..... 💪👍👐👏👏👏👏👏👏

😊
First time I've seen her playing on a Bos! Too bad the audio is not so good quality. Would be great to hear what it sounded like live.
She also played on a Bosendorfer when she did a recital/recording when she was 11, it’s available to watch on UA-cam, I believe it has better sound quality too.
Greatest pianisima
Wow !!!
Great
Thank you for your utmost kind words, sweetheart. So respectful of you. I love you too :)
makes me wish I still had my Steinway, no other piano can bring out the best in one. and then if I did I would invite ms. Wang to tickle the ivories
@wieniawski Because her hair cut is funky!
Rhythm & high talent.
Wow...she's great. Obviously not an "improvisiation", but obviously a great performance. Really fast fingers at 3:29.
NO, she isn't the modern iteration of Liszt, and this rendition is nothing compared to Horowitz. Not even in the same universe. Simple, factual analysis, simply arrived at.
i wish she'd do Totentanz by Liszt for piano and orchestra.
This is NOT the original Horowitz version - it has been adapted by Ms. Wang who is indeed very pretty and dressed to kill but is NO Horowitz (or Argerich, Richter, Ashkenazy for that matter). She is a talented pianist, like so many others.

bravo !
L'excellence.
monster talent
Epic!
Great post. Got'em. :)
te amo
2:40 she plays that part at 300+BPM !!
all the stupid flashing, can imagine that really pisses her off
So Disrespectful to her !
Because Music is also With Mind
@wieniawski Because that is where all the passion and drive comes from. To be blunt it is the sexiest part of the human body.
She has conquered the Mount Everest of piano compositions.
I wonder if she has a youtube channel of her own. I want to subscribe.
L'excellence
why do you think she is "improvising"? the transcription was done by Liszt, later modified/completed by Horowitz - do you believe she has left the score and did her own music?
She will have damn strong children.
I'm traying discover it....
3:10 marvelous :)
Well maybe she wanted the camera flashing since she's advertising for her new CD as written on the board behind her.
Ha, ha. She always makes Lang Lang so amateurish...
What ?
Amazing pianist, and amazing rendition. Its a shame that the camera man was drunk when he shot this.
@gcaee Have you even heard the Horowitz recording?
Tingles down my spine throughout the entire performance. This must be how cats feel when you stroke them above the tail. Wow! Forget sex, this was so much nicer!
Not bad, but lets face it who can possibly follow Horowitz in this devilish transcription!. One however has to admire Yuga Wangs pluck, she is undoubtedly a formidable talent.
Holy Guacamole! Insane pianism. Move over Horowitz!
@wieniawski Maybe she's just a very versatile singer?
She's really good I think but this is not an improv. Horowitz own playing of this is absolutely frightening in it's intensity and controll.
Annoying camera men in China, she must have been half blind during the performance. That's how good and patient she is.
You can have the greatest, most beautiful performer on a world class instrument and then comes along a halfway house camera person who screws the whole thing up!!!
I think her fame comes from her speed and looks she is fast as hell
Horowitz-light.
