this the most saddest part of a soldiers life, before they go on a war, a last dance with the one they love, its romantic yet so sad to look at, knowing this will be your last slow dance with them.
It reminds of January 2015 when I bid my wife goodbye in JKIA Nairobi Kenya (East Africa) as I flew to Freetown, Sierra Leone in West Africa to fight the Ebola epidemic. Emotional.
@@adamboit8627 well sir thank you for your selfless act of courage takes a very big person to leave their home and family to go help others God bless you in lifes journey
My husband played this song on his phone the morning he was deployed and we danced to it infront of everyone .. I remember hearing our song, I remember him holding me tight and I remember him promising to come home but I swear everything else disappeared and it was just us for that brief moment... 💗
This is one of the strongest scenes in movie history, it recaptures totally the environment and aura that prevail before soldiers going to war, the hit by Mel Carter suits beautifully in this scene.
Tommy Blaise, I thought the song was the version sung by "Mel Carter"? Or did you sing it in this movie? Do you happen to know if the 2nd Soldier on stage was Forry Forrest Smith? I know the first song was Greg Kinnear (as Chopper Pilot Crandall "Snakeshit") singing along on stage. Ps, Checked out your channel, you're an AMAZING singer Tommy Blaise!!! 👏👏😀😀
I think yours is the best version. When it appeared in the film I was immediately taken back to the 60s when I heard the Mel Carter version on the radio.
Amen, Iam honored to have been trained by these Great Warriors who fought that War. I was called a toxic male by an hr rep at my job for wearing a Military issue bonnie which I've had for moons, a young lady asked me if I served and I said yes, she said her Father fought in Vietnam, I told her my Drill Sergeants fought there and many Senior NCOS and Officers I served under were there. This hr rep was offended because the young lady thanked me for serving . I told her thank your Dad He's a real Soldier who's been around the block.
This is perhaps the most powerful and poignant statement of the cost of war to those who suffer its consequences that this old Marine has ever witnessed--brings tears to my eyes every time I see it.
"Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me" is a song written by Harry Noble and originally performed by Karen Chandler in 1952. It has been re-recorded several times since then, the most notable covers being by Mel Carter in 1965 and Gloria Estefan in 1994. The version most often associated with the song was recorded by Mel Carter released in 1965. Carter's version spent 15 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 peaking at number eight, while reaching number one on Billboard's Easy Listening chart.
When I watched this scene of the movie it brought back memories of my buddies saying goodbye to their wives before deployment. Tears from both of them. This scene hits hard for me.
Felt the same when I left for Vietnam in 69. Being an enlisted soldier we had no party, but this sure brings back the memories. I actually haven’t seen this movie but surely know of the 7th ! I Corp Combat Engineer. Beautiful and sad scene.
Thank you for your Service Sir. You and your Comrades did a hell of a job over there. I learned a ton from Senior NCOS who were there. Learned a ton from Guys who were there when I was in EMT training
Hugely emotional scene as these couples share maybe the last dance of their lives with each other. Husbands, sons, sharing a lasting moment of love before entering into hell. So sad and raw, a great song choice.
This scene captures the heartache of deploying better than any that I have ever seen before or since. Watching it is almost gut wrenching as it vividly brings back the feelings of loneliness and nervousness.
When I watched this more closely, I noticed that every soldier shown dancing with his spouse (except the Moores) ended up KIA at LZ X-ray in order - Lt Jack Geoghegan @ :018, Captain Tom Metsker @ :26, PFC Willie Godbolt @ 1:02 and Sergeant Carl Palmer @ 1:32
This scene was shot on location at the house of the commanding officer of Fort Benning. He moved out so the scene could be shot. He did this because "We were soldiers" was the first movie to pay respect to the men who went to Vietnam. The movies which preceded it portrayed the GI's as junkies and murderers.
I was trained and mentored by great honorable men who fought that war. They took me as a half grown kid and made a man out of me in Basic Training. During my service these warriors influenced me and taught me things I will carry the rest of my life
I know a guy who served as an Army Medic in Vietnam. He told me that of all the movies about that war, WWS was the most accurate. Didn’t have too kind words about Platoon.
A weird fact is that the only public version of this song is only on this movie, exclusive as fuck, you wont be able to find tommys version anywhere else, there is a full version but for some reason, he wont let us find it and listen to it
Llore con esa pelicula sobre todo cuando matan al que sale al inicio del video, el que tenia una pulserita de su hija recien nacida. Tremenda pelicula.
I know what it's like to be in the situation of the the Colonel and it is a song of the era that would have been played before any unit departs from their loved ones to leave to go into battle. It reflects the love the soldiers have for their sopouses. See the movie and you will understand more. Today it would more likely be a rap or hip hop song or any of the other varieties of music today
I just happened to come across this. I have watched the movie twice times and never really caught the significance of it. I was very fortunate that I never had to go thru this with my girlfriend and future wife, it is so sad.to know what fate awaits the men and women in this scene. Truly heartbreaking when you really think about it.

Dear ibchillin, Do you know when Mr. Blaize sang the song? Was it commissioned especially for the movie? Or had it already been recorded and simply used in the movie? I'm linking to it and would like to list the info in the credits. Thanks in advance.
Love this song, love the movie. Watched it about 8 times now. Oh, the good old days when couples used to look at each other & lovingly gaze at each other full of love & adoration. Can anyone tell me who the actor was miming or doing karaoke to this song in this movie please? The Soldier on the stage, who then kisses his wife. UPDATE- After much investigative work, I'm pretty sure it's Forry Forrest Smith, but I'd love to know for sure. 😍😍 THANKS!!

This song in the film We were soldiers gives me the chills. Fantastic song 🎵
old but gold. they played this at our ball and it reminded me of this scene

What’s the name of this movie, IN ENGLISH PLES
We Were Soldiers, same name as the book it was based on

the best scene in the movie.
The foreshadowing, all the men depicted dancing with their wives in that scene end up dying in the war.
