I was 12 my brother gave me his copy of Paranoid. Let me rephrase, I grew up hearing Sabbath & every other rock band, I was prolly the only kid in K-2nd grade who knew album names, songs, band members & lyrics to the songs I liked. I'd heard Sabbath all my life, I came into possession of my 1st Sabbath album at 12!
I wish everyone did this with all genres of music. Music crosses boundaries, it brings energy, joy, raw power emotion. People from completely different walks of life can unite through a song. I guarantee there's not a woman on the planet who can't relate to Dolly Parton's Jolene, either as the girl imploring Jolene to not do it, or as Jolene. I was in 11th grade when Grand Master Flash's The Message came out. I was in a school for "troubled youth", some units were led by regular women but 2 were led by nuns, my friends and I had Sister listen to this song. When it was over she said I hope everyone who hears it learns from it! One of my black friends said u all(white people) got Jimi (Hendrix) & we (black people) got Tina Marie(white singer/rhythm guitar). Another girl said can't we both have both, yes! I'm an old rock/ hard rock/metal head, and I love these videos!
Me too...and not because I think hip hop is bad or because I want to be an "I told you so" to the young dudes, but because they'll be the ones to keep it alive after we're gone.
@The Stranger that's fantastic u got to c Maiden, that alone is monumental, add to it that u got to c them in different countries, it'd take too many words! Is the crowd energy the same all over? I'd imagine it is! Sadly I didn't get to c many bands I wanted too. I often wish Dr Who was real & he'd pick me up in the TARDIS & take me back in time so I could c everything I missed! Rock on!
@The Stranger oh would that I could! If I get the chance, I'll b there! I've seen South American crowds at concerts on videos and they r very passionate! But there's nothing like actually being there, that electric vibe that a crowd really grooving creates is like nothing else! Thanks for replying!
You have to see them perform this song live in Paris 1970! It's good that you know what the song is about, now you can focus on them jammin. Bill Ward goes absolutely ballistic on the drums in the vid. Totally insane!! 🤘🏻 And yes to their 1st album. That would be awesome.
Tony Iommi is largely responsible for the signature sound of modern heavy metal. When he was young he got his hand caught in some type of machinery and lost the tips of his fingers. He almost gave up playing guitar because he was no longer able to apply enough pressure with his fingers, but luckily he learned how to make special metallic covers for his finger tips he could put on over his mangled nubs, He then had to use very thin strings instead of the normal size. As a result the new "hacksaw edge" sound was born, Which you hear in almost every other metal band since Sabbath.
...his two middle fingers, smashed in an industrial press, fingertips just, gone...can you even imagine?! Dude just found another way to play guitar and holy hell was raised! Hail the Mighty Sabbath!
THE band that introduced metal to the world...at least to my world. The engineering on this entire album is just ridiculous! Thanks for your reaction, man.
Thank you for listening to and apppreciating this music. I turned 72 yesterday and have being going back through my collection. This was one of the greats for my time right after coming home from VietNam. A lot if good Texas smoke, too. Glad to hear them being appreciated…
Not only is Toni Iommi a guitar legend, he is missing the tops of two fingers on his left hand - the fretboard hand! Every single member of Black Sabbath is a musical genius in their own right. Bill Ward is one of the best drummers that has ever lived, Geezer Butler phenomenal bassist and lyricist. Even Ozzy with his unusual voice sings in tune and sings just as well live as in the studio. Epic band.
They were all from Birmingham UK and were school mates, Tony Iomi lost his fingertips in a metal cutter, the day he left to become a musician. Amazing story. Look it up.
You should check out the track that named them, "Black Sabbath", first song, first album. The rest of the albums is fire too. I would request "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" the title track from their 5th album. It has one of the heaviest riffs ever recorded.
@MrDead we did this reaction a few weeks ago and is my favorite black sabbath we have done so far heres a link if you wanna check it ou ua-cam.com/video/b9sGDHlUJDM/v-deo.html
Great choice for Sabbath, another deep rabbit hole! Your reaction to 21st Century Schizoid Man suggests that you may like progressive music, so try Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis and Rush. The best drummer today is Gavin Harrison, whose recent work with King Crimson is a must-see. I highly recommend you watch the live performance of Anesthetize from Porcupine Tree if you love metal. Gavin Harrison will blow you out of your studio. Enjoy your journey through the '60s and '70s!
In 1974 when I was 8 riding bikes with a friend behind a K-Mart, I found two 8-track cassettes of this album 'Paranoid' and 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' (their 5th album). After that I was a Sabbath fan and by Jr High I had all their record albums.
Kick Ass! Thank you for doing an Album Cover video and not that goofy "theatrical" video. Music like this should be heard with no visual distractions. Especially if you want to experience what we did when the record was first released. Album cover and lyrics videos are the way to go! Great job!
I would love to see your review of the Allman Brothers Band live at the Filmore album. Not as hard rock as much of what you have done so far, but the music is some of the best you will ever hear.
This is from the days when a band dared to make a statement about the dangers of their time. The Vietnam War was the beginning of when the news showed real-time footage of the killing to American TV news viewers. Sabbath was so different from anyone else and so powerful. We used to play this before heading outside to play football!
You have to see the animated video that goes with this song on youtube. OMG, powerful and full of symbolism that applies as much or more today than it did back then
Everybody comments on how good Ozzy’s voice was when he was a young man… and that’s perfectly right and proper….but too few people recognise the skill and genius of Bill Ward on the drums….outstanding!
They have a lot of great music. I prefer their early stuff like the tune you just listened to. You'll love the song Fairies Wear Boots when you get to it.
PLEASE check out their live video of this song performed in 1970. Tony is playing guitar with two fake Fingertips! He lost the ends of his fingers in an industrial accident. There's a UA-cam video where he talks about losing his fingertips.
One of the top anti-war songs of the day. The other a year earlier would have been Crosby Stills and Nash doing Wooden Ships. At the time we were living through the Cold War and Vietnam. and the threat of nuclear Annihilation was always on our mind. This song deals with the architects with references to the sheeple. Wooden Ships is the aftermath. I can say after living through that era, and comparing it to today it's much scarier now. Then world leaders understood the consequences. But as laid out in Pink Floyd's Animals album. ( about the book Animal Farm). History repeats and today it is a coalition that actually is pushing for the war with Russia telling the world they will not stop until Russia has been completely demolished. That is hardly talk of peace. But as Ozzy said "poisoning their brain washed Minds." The black and blue concert, Black Sabbath Blue Oyster Cult and Molly Hatchet was the second loudest concert ever attended. Second only to Pink Floyd at the same stadium. it turned out the black and blue concert was a twofer. Black Sabbath the last perform was close to finished when we were hit by a monsoon with 80 mph winds. As equipment was flying in speaker walls falling, the mass Stampede for cover was scary to watch from under our tarps. As natives we were prepared. Likely before anyone even could exit they were announcing on the loudspeakers to keep your tickets stubs they're coming back to do it again for free. Got to admire fan dedication from those bands. ✌️ 🤠🐂🏞️
Not my personal fave Sab since I've heard it so many times but undeniably an epic and powerful Sabbath track; last instrumental section is called "Luke's Wall" btw, that section always gives me the chills
There are many drummers nowadays that just hide behind a massive drum kit… but since Gene Krupa and Buddy Rich there have been few people who can make music from a small drum kit…Bill Ward was one, and Ian Paice was the other
New sub on the Sabbath train although Led Zeppelin is my favorite all-time band so here for that as well. BTW it's obvious you're diggin Bill freaking Ward on the drums, one of my top 5 drummers and underrated IMO. You already have heard some of the GOAT in John Bonham but you will eventually hear my 1a drummer as well in Neil Peart from RUSH. #2112 So good! Keep it coming
When I was 17, I used to play this on my 8 track player in my '70 duster on the way to work the night shift at Burger King. Had to get psyched up to close on the weekend shift. Sucked to work inside while all the teenagers hung out partying outside. Lol.
The interesting thing about Sabbath is they are a deeply Catholic band and as you move through their catalogue, you'll see how that paints their composition and lyrics. Also, Tony Iommi cut the tips off two fingers of his fret hand the day he quit work to do Sabbath full time in a metal pressing accident. So he is playing with two plastic caps on two of his fingers during those epic solos. Their first three albums are heavily blues based. They invented heavy metal. Doom metal. And groove metal.
The first heavy metal acts are considered to be Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple, often referred to as the “unholy trinity”. Led Zeppelin released their self-titled debut in 1969, while Black Sabbath and Deep Purple put out influential records in 1970.
This is the second heavy metal album ever. Sabbath created the genre with their first album. They are the granddaddies of metal and stoner. You only have to look at how many bands have done tributes to them.
This song is more relevant today than it has ever been. When you have multiple countries using the people of another country fighting a proxy war on their behalf. It’s disgusting what is happening.
Bill Ward is the TRUTH!!!!!! The whole truth and NOTHING but the TRUTH!!!
So help you GAWD!!!!!!!
Too many don’t even think of Bill when thinking of greatest drummers. He is one of them for sure!!
"The Swinging Wizard"
I'd swear to it in court
It angers me when he’s left off the top 3 drummers of all time list. IMO…Bill Ward, John Bonham and Neil Peart are the 3. We can debate placement. 🤣❤️
This song turned me into a metalhead when I was fourteen. It will turn anyone into a metalhead.
I was like 19, but yeah! 💯💯
I was sixteen, and my fourteen year old neighbor was really into them. I wasn't. It took me a while, but I got here. ❤️✌️

Tru Dat!
You have no idea how much joy it brings to me watching young people react to the music I grew up with.
Gives me hope for the future for some reason.
I 100% agree on all counts.
I wish everyone did this with all genres of music. Music crosses boundaries, it brings energy, joy, raw power emotion. People from completely different walks of life can unite through a song. You have to see them perform this song live in Paris 1970! It's good that you know what the song is about, now you can focus on them jammin. Bill Ward goes absolutely ballistic on the drums in the vid. Totally insane!! 🤘🏻
And yes to their 1st album. That would be awesome.
It’s a great performance 😊 Bill killed it. That whole concert is awesome.
The Best!
Great Sabbath song. The lyrics to this song is deep
The 1970 live from Paris video of this song is an absolute must.
Other great songs are Paronoid, iron man, Sweet Leaf, Fairies Wear Boots, N.I.B.
Master ship of an anti-war song. Do you hear the blues influence? It's a timeless song!
Bassist Geezer Butler was the main Lyricist for Black Sabbath during the Ozzy years.
I was going to write a blurb about Tony Iommi but J B covered it nicely.
Hard to believe the godfather of metal cant feel the strings on half of his fretting hand (middle and ring finger), almost like it was destiny.
...his two middle fingers, smashed in an industrial press, fingertips just, gone...can you even imagine?! Dude just found another way to play guitar and holy hell was raised! Hail the Mighty Sabbath!
I prefer tommy's brother tony iommi
@@neillenet291 😀 oops. Talk 2 text got me again.
Been on my play list for 50+ years. Lost friends and relatives to Nam. Senseless!
Fairies Wear Boots is awesome and you gotta believe it.
This song is still so true today , F-in politician's .
War Pigs is a classical multi-movement orchestral masterpiece. Wagner himself would be headbanging in epic metal approval.
THE band that introduced metal to the world...at least to my world. The engineering on this entire album is just ridiculous! Thanks for your reaction, man.
Check out the live video performance from Paris 1970
One of the greatest and most epic songs ever made - sadly still relevant ( Kind of a hymn for Ukraine and humanity )
They changed the way Music was played, to me the most influential band of the 70's!
The live version 1970 in Paris one of the greatest live performances ever!
Geezer Butler is the lyricist in Sabbath.
Thank you for listening to and apppreciating this music. I turned 72 yesterday and have being going back through my collection. This was one of the greats for my time right after coming home from VietNam. A lot if good Texas smoke, too. Glad to hear them being appreciated…

Being left-handed, his right hand is his fretting hand.
If you don' love Black Sabbath after hearing this song....you just don't like music. It's got everything you want in it.
Checkout the live version - 1970 - Paris!!! Bill Ward on another level!!!
Being a lover of the chronic you have to check out Sabbath's song Sweet leaf!
Tony coughing from a hit is prob the most epic thing ever put to vinyl. 💨💨
Yes! I love the beginning before the music starts. I won't give it away... but, yeah. Sweet Leaf!!! ✌

Children of the Grave
Yes, even me who never liked metal. Even though this came out at the same exact time that Zeppelin burst on the scene. Yeah, it took some decades.
listen to FAIRIES WEAR BOOTS it was the last song on their best album and it is unique legendary
classic blues hard rock 1969 ahead of its time
When you need a strong opener for your second album... legendary tune.

Their first 6 albums and the 2 they did with Dio were truly epic!!! GIve a listen, you wont regret!!!!
Saw them do this live in the 70,s…UNREAL!!!
The Paranoid album was supposed to be called War Pigs. But their record label in USA said No bcuz Vietnam!!!
Welcome to Black Sabbath

Their 3rd album Master Of Reality is arguably the heaviest. Those bass-heavy growls still hit me hard. That record is 🔥
Vol.4 too.
Real Music there, sorry, just found you. I miss our old guys from back in the day. Enjoy

Pretty good 52yr old music!! I can promise you in 1970 we weren't saying how good music was in the back in the 1920s.
beautifully said !

The song “ After Forever” was in response to them being called a satanic band.
@@kikivon3501 One of their most underrated riffs in my opinion. I love that song.
This is the second heavy metal album ever. Sabbath created the genre with their first album. They are the granddaddies of metal and stoner. You only have to look at how many bands have done tributes to them.
You'll love greatest song of all time - LED ZEPPELIN - Stairway to Heaven
When they call it heavy metal this is what they mean. Heavy, plodding and dark is the sound.
I like the live version better because the drums were heavier.
First album is 'sick' 🤪🤪
A must-add for your reactions and your playlist ... Ted Nugent - Stranglehold!
This song is more relevant today than it has ever been. When you have multiple countries using the people of another country fighting a proxy war on their behalf. It’s disgusting what is happening.
You have to remember...all the British 60s bands...no matter their sound, all grew up thru WW2 and the nazi bombing of Britain.
War pigs!
Gotta do the original live. Wanna see someone beat the drums like they owed him money.... \m/
U should do paranoid or iron man. Black Sabbath's best songs
Tony lost the tips of his fingers at his factory job so he tapes finger tips on his fretting hand to play.
