    I had a BJ7 left hand drive. Most beautiful car I owned. Hottest car I ever drove too, and by hot, I mean the temperature in the driver seat!

    Back in October of '68 I had a Friend take a '67 Austin Healey and I actually Laid Down in the that passenger seat. The crisp going through the gears with that beautiful British automotive sound just got me going. I believe 136 HP with 2 carburetors. Super car!

    I owned a '67 Mark 3 Healey...last of the breed, for 4 years. Lovely exterior design, godawful interior seating position, beautiful running car on dry roads but an absolutely near uncontrolable beast with any snow on the road. As mentioned elsewhere I can still hear the down draft carbs pulling air in my imagination. Life got in the way and I sold the Healey in the early 1970's...one of my bigger mistakes.

      Bradford Shinkle mine was a 63. Beautiful car. Handled very well. Plenty of power. However there were constant problems with the fuel injection. I ended up selling it in 1967. I miss the positive experience but not the exasperation. I now have a Miata. Close to the driving experience without the problems. Like an old girlfriend, I still think of the Healey from time to time.

      When I was at college back in 1970 a lecturer had a AH 300 that had been a works car for the Monte Carlo rally. it still had the Monte Carlo badge riveted to the boot lid but the actual car was rotten as a pear with some panels held on with duct tape. God know how much that car would be worth now

    This is by far one of the best body style's of any English sports cars, a buddy in HS had one and I was flat British Racing Green with envy. This particular car tells a story, the drivetrain sounds awful, and when the driver was winding it out a bit, the engine was really thrashing...needs to be gone through and put right, then it will purr like a kitten. Just lovely, lovely styling.

    This and the E-Type Jag were the two cars I most fantasized about driving, as a kid in the 60s. I eventually wound up owning an Austin Healey Sprite and an MGB. Later I had a Porsche and I now drive a Nissan 370z sport coupe. There's nothing like a classic two-seater proper sports car,

    I was sooo looking forward to this driving experience but couldn't hear you or understand due to the poor sound quality, mic.

      I'm guessing you're referring to audio quality. Investment in a lapel Mic help tremendously after this review. Big challenge still though. Classic cars being a lot nosier than anything modern. Glad you enjoyed the visuals.

    Great car. Great filming, country side. I can see you are having a great time. You probable are giving us some good information but I can not hear a bloody thing you are saying.

      Sandor Kovacs Fair summary. Audio is really tricky in a classic open sports car, although made better after we invested in a lapel Mic. 😀

    Owned both a '63TR3a with detachable side curtains and a '67 Spitfire (roll-up windows) during my college days (20's). I preferred the Spitfire for reliability/comfort. The TR was a sure chick magnet only in the Spring and Fall in warm So. California. Regatding both cars...Summer time the engine cooked you and in the Winter the mico heater and the uninsulated fabric top kept you cold and wet.

    • @ClassicCarsDriven

      Nice early car line up. Yes, left hand drive or right hand drive a factor on whether the exhaust cooked you or your passenger. Matt.

    Big Healeys.... about the most charismatic macho car ever. Never that expensive in production, easy to restore (compared with other sports cars) and easy to tune for that bit extra power. Definitely for the bloke who didn't need to try too hard. Pity they now are worth silly money.

      David Hayes Interesting that prices never quite match the E-Type in the UK at least. I did know of a beautifully prepared rally rep on triple Weber’s go for just £35K. But mostly they seem to sell for £40-£50k.

      The twin SU carbs are a “side draft” design (just a small correction). I have driven my red ‘67 Healey for almost 50 years now….loving ever mile !!!!

    Enjoyable video but the AH 3000 has got the Austin A99/A110 Westminster 2912cc engine block, not the A90

    Love Healeys. Does the test car have non-standard wheels and tyres, as they don't seem to fill the rear wheel arches?

    • @ClassicCarsDriven
      @ClassicCarsDriven  10 років тому +1

      As far as we know the wheels and tyres are standard. All we can think is that as each series of car was raised up higher each time to increase ground clearance, especially at the rear, the MK111 ended up being the tallest of them all. Matt.

    i owned a new 1966 mk111. what a pig to drive a big animal. looked very nice.

    • @heatmoon
      @heatmoon 5 років тому +1

      How do you mean pig? No power steering? The gas mileage is nothing compared to other monster cars of the era. They were quick and responsive. I have a 1963. With tight steering, big steering because of the lack of power steering. Very quick agile car for the time. How's it a pig? What do you drive now a prius?

    Why did the US market gobble up most of these cars? 😎

  • @robertlawrence4410
    @robertlawrence4410 5 років тому +2

    His history/ facts aren’t quite correct. A90 surrogate was not the 2.9litre engine, only 2.6 in 4-cylinder form (A90 Atlantic) or 2.6 in C-series 6-cylinder form (A90 saloon/sedan).

  • @buckwheatINtheCity

    Didn't the Westminster use the same engine and transmission? How about the MGC? Is this a expensive budget roadster? 😯

    • @ClassicCarsDriven
      @ClassicCarsDriven  Рік тому

      Yes same C Series engine as the Westminster A110. MGC was the (short lived) follow on car, although had a later engine. Not a cheap car to buy and run, no. 😄

    Blimey, sadly this video has shocking production quality, sound, picture and continuity etc...
    I was really looking forward to seeing this car in all it's glory !!!
    If you're gonna promote yourself you need to view some other Channels and see how relaxed they do it etc
    I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and blame your equipment, you really need to step it up as this looked like a ten year old review, apart from the HD option, you'd never know !!!
    I really want this Channel to succeed, so perhaps a couple of GoPros are what you need ?? !!
    Good Luck !!!
