I just bought a radio from a 2005 Trailblazer and naturally it did not operate in my 2006 Tahoe. I thought I bought a $100 paperweight until I saw your video. Thank you for sharing this info and saving me a bill from the stealership. Very much appreciated.
Worked for me! Bought a locked CD radio for my 2005 Chevy Colorado, Didn't know I ordered one locked, found this video, pulled the chip, BINGO!! Got. CAL ERROR message when first comes on, SO WHAT, goes away when you touch the volume. THANK YOU!!!!!
Last winter for no reason whatsoever my S-10's radio locked up on me. Did a google search and your videos came up. Went out and tried several numbers and FINELY got the code to unlock my radio. It's nice to have a radio again! Thank you!!!
8 years later!! You have definitely helped someone sir!!! The first one, the one on the left, that's what I have. From an 03 Monte Carlo. Thank you thank you!!! The dealership was going to be $145 an hour to program/unlock. Buuut, I have to go back to the junkyard, the radio worked, but not the CD player ugh!!!
After taking our '05 Colorado to the dealership and being told they can't unlock the stero, that we could find instructions in the owners manual and of course charging us for their "advice", I found your video. Guess what?! IT WORKED!! Having to deal with the CAL ERR msg for a second is no bother. Thanks for your video!!
Awesome!!!! Thank you... I bought a used radio, and realised it was going to be an issue. Looked at a dozen videos and websites.. ONLY yours was the correct way to do it... Well done.
This is great advice and it worked great with the adverse effects. Most of them were no problem, but mine would always go back to track one on the cd everytime you shut the key to the off position. So some memory is forgotten by taking out the chip. There is another option that I found by accident scrolling youtube for other suggestions. My main proble was that the face plate lights were mostly burnt out and the cd player did not work. I purchased another radio from a junk yard which I unlocked by taking out the chip. Heres the best part! Once I discovered that the cd player worked in the new radio, I then switched out the cd player and the face plate. Guess what? Now I have a new working factory cd player with no issues! There are videos on how to take the face plate and cd player out, very simple.
I just want to confirm that if I pull the chip out that the radio is now forever unlocked? I guess my question is it's not going to just run for 10 minutes at a time with the chip out it will work normally with a couple errors correct? Thanks
I had a locked radio for a 2003 Buick Rendezvous. I couldn't even get the codes by pressing the buttons. I removed this chip (small screwdriver through the side) and the radio works perfectly. THANK YOU!
Works like a charm. Mine was the type with easily accessible chip. Used pliers and twisted it off. No problems with "cassette light". Radio presets remain after shutting off. Has "calibration error" message when first starting radio.
Love you video! FYI The reason you’re losing power to the radio after removing the chip is because the radio has no way to communicate with the vehicles communications module that hooks to your on star as well. These radios don’t use a typical 12 V signal for power the module actually sends an 8 V signal. That’s why when you put an aftermarket radio in the wiring kit comes with a splice wire for 12 V source. I also had an issue with my 6 disc changer Bose system after a CD got stuck I unhook the fuse radio went in and went and limp mode so and wouldn’t play the CD player. Radio just flashes the CD emblem. Remove the radio took the top cover off and got the CD out but still just flashes. Nobody has had a fixture other than replacing the radio but I found a fix. Like I said the radio is controlled by that module by pulling the fuse you’re not shutting down the module you have to unhook the battery and Touch the cable ends together for about 30 seconds to a minute and that will put all modules in the vehicle to sleep. I work for a dealer I have to do this sometimes to certain vehicles that do weird things sometimes you just have to reset the modules and everything goes back to normal. Again thanks for the video.
I know this is a old video but it helped out alot ,I did everything right but still didn't work until you showed the wires on the back plugin and how to move the yellow wire.now I have a working stereo, thank you so much....
I just followed your technique for a used radio I put in my Silverado, worked great! No loss of preset memory. THANKS!! This is what the internet was invented for, sharing information. I LOVE IT!
Hi I removed the chip and that unlocked it but lost memory so you can't store stations 2 days later I put the chip back and got the memory back and stayed unlocked Thanks for the video
This process worked. The board looked different on my radio but it still worked. I removed the chip with the numbers "9355093" on it. Cons: radio does not hold the programmed stations. When vehicle is turned back on, radio defaults to preset fm station. So far it's not an issue but have to select which CD to play after each vehicle start-up.
Hey Bro, I want to thank you for posting this information. I bought a radio for my mothers 2005 Equinox form a salvage yard that was locked. After looking at your video I was able to fix the issue by removing the chip. Thank you.
thank you so very much .. I saw the other guys that you mentioned. They would not help. but you sir, did.. and thank you for explicit details which is exactly what I needed. Great Job! Now I have another idea about this.
If you are not hearing AUDIO after doing this, then the issue is that that the stereo was programmed to use a different AMP. GM used BOSE and Non-BOSE AMPs that communicate with the radio before producing audio. The radio has to be matched to the AMP. I'm not sure how to bypass that
I just did this today! Radio unlocked and works great. The tape icon is on (no cassette on this unit) and the presets do NOT save...but the clock remembers the time. My aftermarket stereo quit and this old factory radio sounds better!! Thank you for this video
Thank you so much!! My radio was the one on the right and as soon as I removed the chip.... I had radio!! Thank you so much for your time and your info!
towards the end of your highly informative video you confused me. Not that hard to do BUT anyway. Lemme ask ya this,, on the 2 radios you had upside down showing the chip placement, after removing the chip on these 2 particular models, Do you also have to manipulate the wiring on those ??????
Man Thank you so much i have went without a radio for a year in my 03 silverado because it was lock i just ordered aftermarket radio installation kit harness everything and just seen your video just pulled radio out done what you showed and it works great now i have to figure out what im going to do with the radio and stuff i just ordered lol awesome man thank you
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! My Pontiac grand am (2003) stereo stopped playing CDs. And my aftermarket stereo isn't ready to go in yet(still need dash kit and harness) and I had a 2001 chev cavalier stereo laying around. But it was saying locked. So thank you so much!
This works AWESOME! What you need is a tiny craft X-ACTO knife, fresh blade. (The silver pencil kind.) Put a 2005 Impala ray-dee-oh into my 2005 Avalanche. For some reason, the number 5 preset works after power off/power up. Kicks as hard as a 49-year-old needs. Aftermarket is shite. (That's what I took out that was dead as a door nail.) If I want to get fancy, I might install the AUX jack, or just grab an FM combobulator and call it a day. And now, back to The Tragically Hip!
You shouldn't need too in vehicle as the computer in the car is still providing the radio the "On" signal. The wire trick I use, is to turn the radio on, outside of the car like in the video, or in other types of vehicles that this radio can, and does fit in that do not provide the "on" signal. Not to sound confusing and all.
I just got the older model, but it was a little bit different. The chips had goo on them. I removed the eprom using a small flat head screw driver. It worked.
Thanks for the advice. I have this problem now and the darn thing just won't budge from the "LOCKED" display. The funny thing is, I had just purchased the vehicle (2002 GMC Sonoma) the previous week. The radio worked just fine for awhile, and I was able to set all the presets and play around with the buttons to see what function did what, and then I was able to set the correct time. Shortly after that it just decided to "LOCK" with no reason. The radio was not changed, the battery did not die, and I am quite sure it came with the vehicle. I can not get it to do anything now (and the cassette player does not work, but I knew that when I bought the truck). I'm about to pull out the whole damn radio and throw it to the cows to stomp on. I hate the thing! Lets face it, nobody is stealing "any" radios anymore, and if they are that hard up for a radio, then have fun with it. With this one, stealing it would be doing me a favor...
Thank you for sharing that information. I just bought an 04 Chevy Tahoe LTZ Z21 AND when we got it, the stereo was locked. Still is actually. It has a red screen and only says LOCKED on it. So hopefully your advice helps. Thank you.
If you take that little chip from one stereo into another you can unlock a junkyard stereo to work in your car without any issues. I retrofitted the monsoon system out of a Pontiac grand am in to my Chevy Malibu and had to do that to get the head unit unlocked.
I have a 2002 Cadillac DeVille and I would love to do this but I don’t know how to get to the board because the tape deck and everything are covering it.how do I take apart the radio to get to the board so I don’t break it ? Thanks
My cd player wouldn't eject anymore so i bought a a used stock RDS on ebay. Worked great but was locked. Attempted the fix by removing the chip (newer one in middle of board) like in video and it wouldn't power up again. For a workaround i took the cd mechanism itself out of the locked ebay one and swapped it into my current stock one and it works flawlessly now, so i guess the locking issue doesnt apply to the cd mechanism itself. hopefully this helps someone else.
Have you ever tried this with the OEM Bose/OnStar 6 CD Radio's? I followed along with all of the removal instructions but after looking up the product number, I realized my stereo was completely different than the video's online. I have pulled it apart but the chipboard looks a little different. I am afraid to pull any of the chips but if I can't find the chip to pull, the radio is worthless anyway because it is locked up. This is the original factory radio for the 2007 trailblazer I have and it just locked up last week. I don't want to pay the $120 diagnosis fee to tell me that there is probably a short in the board somewhere.
Great video! My 03 express only has the one connector in the back, like the way you have the speaker set up in the video, do I have to make anymodifications to the wiring harness or connections? Please let me know. Thanks!
Actually if you ground out one of the legs to the radio chassis ground ( if using this video as reference then would be top right leg) only takes few seconds. There is no negative effects whatsoever. In fact when vehicle is off the light still blinks like it should. Now idk for certain that it forces it to program to vehicle or Actually disables Eprom entirely. The radio has to be connected to vehicle to work. This method will work with all chips like one in video
Didn't work for me. I have a 2001 Chevy Impala with the older radio. After removing the chip, the radio worked fine until I shut off the ignition and started the car again. It immediately locked. I pulled the radio back out, unplugged the communication plug and tried again... Same thing.... Worked fine until I shut it off and started the car again and it immediately locked again. Any thoughts?
Great tutorial on how to remove the chip. The radio is working great in the car with no effects. Thanks for sharing this fax with everybody greatly appreciated highly recommended
I have a 2003 buick lesabre and I bought a replacement refurbished unit online ......it has the dual CD and cassette......where is the chip located ??? I don't want to remove the wrong one
Hey man I’m late but I was wondering if you knew much about the cassette player part of these radios, mine acts strange always says there’s a cassette in it, will not try to pull a tape in, and randomly the player will try pulling and ejecting a tape, but eventually stop but the light stays on, and sometimes the light will go off and will pull and play a tape if I put one in, sounds great but all of a sudden it’ll sound like it’s eating the tape and stop and eject the tape leaving the light on again, and once again decides not to try to pull a tape in, any ideas on what I can do?
OK I removed the chip from the 2006 GMC radio but it still will not play on the bench. It will still play for 10 minutes and stop. This is the one with the chip in the middle. It has an orange hot wire with a smaller orange wire under it. Could the small one be the signal wire? Please help
I am trying to put a 2004 Colorado Cd player in my daughters barbie Jeep. The radio isn't locked if I put it into my truck. Do I need to remove the chip? Or just move the wire over one space? Or both?
I have the original factory radio without a CD player and would like to replace with a model that has this feature. Would it be possible to simply swap the chips and retain the memory functions with the replacement radio? I would of course find a matching year for the donor radio. Thanks for any input you can provide.
So I have a question on a non tape deck radio what it's the pinout of the radio for the connector? I need to find out what the pinout for the power allways on and power with the key on then There's a second connector connector that only has 3 wires going to get please help
I pulled my GM RDS radio from a 2003 Chevy Avalanche and was unable to get a working display even though the unit worked while installed in the vehicle. The radio never indicated locked; just no display. I connected 12V + battery power to pins B1 and B2 and Ground to pin A12 on the 24 pin connector at the back of the radio based on what I saw on the video. I also removed the locking chip as shown in the second radio in the video. When I push the power button, the lights on the faceplate illuminate but still no display. I have not connected a speaker at this point since I never got the display to work. Are there any other connections I need to try before giving up on this one?
+Pan Gramercy Do you know where the amplifier is located on this type of radio? I think it's internal, I just know I don't have an external amp that's typically located in-between the rear speakers. My issue is my right side speakers (front & rear) are fading out for a few minutes and then back in repeatedly. I think it's an amp issue. Any idea?
Will this disarm the key to bypass to start the engine? 2002 Chevy Impala changed radio to same kind but car not start due to chipped key radio says fob learn but does not have the fob remote keyless entry . Just a chip key
Does presets work after removing and can you explain better on moving wire on rear of radio. Do you have to move wire and tie together to get away from antitheft???? Thank you
Hey bud, I know this os an older video but would you know what would be the latest GM Stereo in this size that would work (all function) in a 1997 Buick Riviera?
Pan I have a question. IO did what your video says to do. Thanks It worked but it reads cal err and then goes away and the radio works in the meantime. Any way of getting rid of that and how about keeping the preset stations.?
i have a big question Pan, i just bought a stereo like the one you have hooked up it came off of a 2003 trail blazer but i cant seen to get it unlock. is there a chip that i have to take off or change the wiring in my truck? thanks for your time.
I just purchased a factory radio that came out a 2002 impala for my 2003 impala, now if I do what you're showing me to unlock it,will I be able to program a key fob with it as well??
Awesome! Just fixed my radio after replacing the BCM. only downside it now shows a little cassette icon in the bottom right and it's a CD only with no cassette deck. But I can definitely deal with that!
I just bought a radio from a 2005 Trailblazer and naturally it did not operate in my 2006 Tahoe. I thought I bought a $100 paperweight until I saw your video. Thank you for sharing this info and saving me a bill from the stealership. Very much appreciated.

6 years and you’re still saving people’s butts. I appreciate it!

you where right at the spot.
Thanks
I just followed your technique for a used radio I put in my Silverado, worked great! No loss of preset memory. THANKS!! This is what the internet was invented for, sharing information. I LOVE IT!
Thank you, buddy, for helping us figure it out and for not being selfish as the other U Tuber.

Pan you’re the man!! It worked on my 2005 GMC Jimmy. Thanks so much.
Finally have radio now my commute won't be boring thank you
Thanks for the tip........... bought a radio at Pick & Pull you saved me $$$$$$$
thank you so very much .. I saw the other guys that you mentioned. They would not help. but you sir, did.. and thank you for explicit details which is exactly what I needed. Great Job!
Now I have another idea about this.

Yeah, that's the issue I'm having and also what I suspected the problem was.
Thank you worked like a charm. Just in time to crank my Trans Siberian Orchestra Christmas cd.....Thanks again for taking the time.
I just did this today! Radio unlocked and works great. The tape icon is on (no cassette on this unit) and the presets do NOT save...but the clock remembers the time.
My aftermarket stereo quit and this old factory radio sounds better!! Thank you for this video
Thanks it worked just fine after 2 stereos we are glad you helped us solve the problem!!!!!
Thank you sir! Glad someone was willing to put in some leg work for the rest of us and was willing to share the information!!
THIS IS A VERY OUTSTANDING DEMO OF HOW TO UNLOCK THE RADIO THANKS ALOT AND KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK I'M VERY GRATFUL TO YOU
Awesome!!! Once I knew where to go I was able to fix mine in under 20min. 2005 Chevy Venture. Thank you
Thank you so much!!
Man Thank you so much i have went without a radio for a year in my 03 silverado because it was lock i just ordered aftermarket radio installation kit harness everything and just seen your video just pulled radio out done what you showed and it works great now i have to figure out what im going to do with the radio and stuff i just ordered lol awesome man thank you
Thanks your video was of great help... removed the chip and bam the radio is unlocked and works.. thanks again
Thank you. It works 09 trailblazer into 03 envoy
Sicckkkkkk it works like a beauty! Thanks buddy! Youve made a happy family!!!
Worked Great! Went from radio only to cd/cassette/radio/aux in a chevy express 2005. just as you mentioned... thanks so much!
Connecting speakers?
You shouldn't need too in vehicle as the computer in the car is still providing the radio the "On" signal. I did everything you did in the video but my radio just keep saying error
How to connect speakers?
Thank you for the information I am so glad somebody posted the real video of the two videos suck major thank you
How to connect it to speakers?
Took me 10 seconds to get my radio to play!
Thanks the best diy out there.
Thank you, very informative and and well made video.
100% legit worked PERFECTLY. So simple thank you so much!

you hands down did the better & best vid.
I have a 2002 Cadillac DeVille and I would love to do this but I don’t know how to get to the board because the tape deck and everything are covering it.how do I take apart the radio to get to the board so I don’t break it ? Thanks
Ok you remove the chip but every time that turn off the car it lost the memory of the radio station and cd too! And that sucks!!!
I wonder if I can swap the chip from my non-working CD/Radio to a replacement one that does work?
Thank you, now I have tunes again !
I seem to have a similar radio but the board is different.seems to have same parts but in diffrent place.can u help thanks
you are the man!
Hey i took chip out i used a razor blade pushed down on both sides came right out radio works cool thanks
Hell yeah guy...Like old school youtube style videos...Just meat and potatoes! Thanks!
My cd player wouldn't eject anymore so i bought a a used stock RDS on ebay. Worked great but was locked. WORKED LIKE A CHARM THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow 2 minutes and I was rocking,,,,thanks,,,,,
what about thd ones where the chips are horizontal and vertical
My envoy only displays clock. No display of radio stations/CD or cassette. It doesn't say LOCKED either, any ideas of what the issue may be ?
Thanks so much man. One thing, is there any chance just removing pin 8 will keep the radio presets? Thanks.
Great video! My 03 express only has the one connector in the back, like the way you have the speaker set up in the video, do I have to make anymodifications to the wiring harness or connections? Please let me know. Thanks!

Not that it really makes a difference but , Taking the chip out do you still have your steering wheel controls?
I need to know what chip to remove from my radio. I also have a GM radio but it doesn't look like yours. GM PART NO. 22734878. please help!
Great tutorial on how to remove the chip. The radio is working great in the car with no effects. Thanks for sharing this fax with everybody greatly appreciated highly recommended
I have a radio out of a 03 Tahoe and it is totally different. They look the same but there is no chip to remove as you are showing in the videos.
I have a 2003 buick lesabre and I bought a replacement refurbished unit online ......it has the dual CD and cassette......where is the chip located ??? I don't want to remove the wrong one

OK I removed the chip from the 2006 GMC radio but it still will not play on the bench. It will still play for 10 minutes and stop. This is the one with the chip in the middle. It has an orange hot wire with a smaller orange wire under it. Could the small one be the signal wire? Please help
Hola, retire el chip de mi radio y funciono como nuevo, te la rifaste amigo gracias.
I am trying to put a 2004 Colorado Cd player in my daughters barbie Jeep. The radio isn't locked if I put it into my truck. Do I need to remove the chip? Or just move the wire over one space? Or both?
At 4:45 do you connected the wires together yellow with the thicker wire
+L.A. HINKZ Yes. One is the ignition signal, the other is memory power. They need to both see power at the same time for the radio to power on.
Thanks
Great video save me big time 👍
I have the original factory radio without a CD player and would like to replace with a model that has this feature.
Any idea?
Hey thank you for the video! Just need to know if i have to do the changes you did with your cables to be able to make it work in my truck?
Will this disarm the key to bypass to start the engine? 2002 Chevy Impala changed radio to same kind but car not start due to chipped key radio says fob learn but does not have the fob remote keyless entry . Just a chip key
Thanks man!! it worked for my Trailblazer 2005 radio!
Does presets work after removing and can you explain better on moving wire on rear of radio. Do you have to move wire and tie together to get away from antitheft???? Thank you
I have a 2000 chevy cavaliar and I am trying to install the factory radio into the car, but there is no power whatsoever to the radio.
Works great! It took 2 minutes! Thanks!
I did it, and it did unlock it, but now I have no volume? What would be causing it to do that?
Thanks!! that’s just what I needed to unlock my radio I will let you know how it turns out tomorrow when I get a chance to work on it.
i have a big question Pan, i just bought a stereo like the one you have hooked up it came off of a 2003 trail blazer but i cant seen to get it unlock. is there a chip that i have to take off or change the wiring in my truck? thanks for your time.
great video, do you have any more info on the digital on signal adapter?
I just purchased a factory radio that came out a 2002 impala for my 2003 impala, now if I do what you're showing me to unlock it,will I be able to program a key fob with it as well??
Awesome! Just fixed my radio after replacing the BCM. only downside it now shows a little cassette icon in the bottom right and it's a CD only with no cassette deck. But I can definitely deal with that!
