I’m actually about to go from a Cobalt SS 2.4 N/A to a Focus ST. I’m pretty torn because the Cobalt has a lot of potential and aftermarket parts are cheap compared to other platforms but I have the same reasons as your friend in this video as to why I want the ST. Reliable, fun daily driver. I will miss the cobalt, getting kinda rare :(
Love the video! I own a 2017 Focus ST that's lightly modified and yes it is very cheap to get great HP and torque out of this car and the aftermarket is great for it. And I've had my car a year and a half and have almost 26k miles on it and not a single problem out of it. I'm also a member of an ST/RS club with around 150 members and it is very rare that someone has any problems unless they are highly modified and tuned. So as for the "it's not realiable" comments you are totally wrong. Don't belief everything you hear other people say and take it for the truth.
I have a 2017 Fiesta ST and I love it. My other car is a Boss 302 and it's just as much fun to drive, just in a completely different way. #notificationgang
David Jenkins I’m stuck on the fiesta st or focus st for a new daily. I’m leaning towards the focus because at 6ft 2, and 200 lbs the fiesta wouldn’t be comfortable

I have 2014, I get about 20mpg on average, I way to hard on this thing and at 70k no issue thus far. Love to drive it, once you understand this car the turn in is sick
I also got my black ST at 40k miles that was extremely clean inside. It was completely stock except for a Ford Performance exhaust that Ford offers. Currently FBO and bagged. Plans to go big turbo next year.
This video speaks to me. I had (still have, for the time being) an M-Edition MX6 that I was using as a daily but really needed to be a project car. I bought it when I went back down to Virginia and never really had an issue, but having to come back to Rhode Island just started killing it. When it ran, it ran great, but little things kept going wrong and parts were hard to find. I ended up having to drive one of my parents' cars more often than not, and at their insistence to not spend any more money on it, I had to look for another car. At the beginning of this month I picked up a gen 1 Mazdaspeed3 from Connecticut. Its still fun to drive, its so much faster, and there's still an active mod community that's quite big so parts shouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately, I'll have to get rid of the MX6 soon since I don't have the facilities to take on a full time project car like that. I'll miss it to bits when I do have to get rid of it, but I look forward to the journey with the Speed3. If I could keep both, I would.
The turbo ej Subaru is something you can’t cheap out on and can’t go past it’s limits. When you do an engine overhaul you should replace nearly everything maintenance related and do everything by the book. These cars are not rocket science though, imo one of the easiest cars to do a overhaul on. These cars burn, and drip oil, always check the oil, and do your proper maintenance on time. That doesn’t obviously mean it won’t blow up anyway. Abuse plays a factor too. If you flogged your car for 60k miles and then it blew up then you got your money’s worth imo. ARP head studs and a forged short block(never oem replacement block) and you can have some serious fun as long as you aren’t on the shit wrx trans. But built engines have looser ring gaps so you still have to keep up with your oil consumption and maintenance. Don’t play the game without the funds or knowledge of the Subaru game. You have been warned. If you can do everything yourself a engine build will cost you around 5-7 grand. A shop doing it could cost upwards toward 15k. It’s not just car guys car imo, if you own a wrx/sti and plan to void your warranty you should be a pretty good wrench with decent car knowledge too or you’re in for a bad time.
Have a 2013 ST bought 2nd hand all stock, bought it in summer of 2018. Previous owner looked after it well. Started modding right away. Full stage 3 currently, want to go bigger turbo in future (400hp at crank max) after Mfactory lsd is installed. Absolutely no issues, just one 5amp fuse needed to be replaced when gauges in front of steering wheel stopped working. IMO car is built well, probably overbuilt. As far as i know was designed by Ford teams in Europe and USA. Would totally recommend this car.
I’m either getting an ST or WRX for my next car, both of my best friends have the wrx so they’re pretty biased but I’ve only been in a ST one time. AWD will probably be the deal breaker for me.
I have a built subaru. And it has been super reliable. 420whp and a set of injectors and pump away from 500+whp. Gtx3076r on e85. Sounds like this guy just had a bad experience. Which alot of people have with a ej powered car and that's a shame cause they are an amazing car. But obviously the boxer engine isn't the best for high numbers
Got my ST when they were new (in the USA). Was the only one in our state and it had just come back from a show. Paid a good amount for it because supply/demand (basically msrp but lots of rebates), been enjoying it ever since. Ford paid for a day course with professional racecar drivers and drifters and learned how to do the tricks and race the circuit, though they put me to shame when I drove as a passenger with them. Hoping to hold onto it forever.
I’ve gone from a 2007 Speed3, to a 2011 WRX hatch to 2014 Fiesta ST. I can quite confidently say, the Fiesta is the most fun to drive. When I got it 3 years ago and 40k miles ago, I didn’t think I’d like it long term, now I’m just going to keep it forever. I will say, I highly recommend running 16 inch or smaller wheels on a stock suspension, it’s a bit too jarring with the 17’s.
That color/wing set up is amazing. These cars are able to pull off a few mods that would look 'rice' or a bit too 'tuner car' than most can. My '16 has FBO but is running the 'Cobb Stage3 93 OTS' tune currently..I keep hearing good things about going with Stratified or JST... I just need to pull the trigger and get a proper tune. Our turbos don't make a lot of power, but fine tuning it would sure make the response and feel of the car better even if it doesn't add that much more power.
Btw...is there a full build list on this car? My Bov is also very sensitive..its a TS 50/50..ANY pressure and it hisses lol...kind of annoying but I've gotten used to it. It's actually helped me gain some fuel mileage though since I'll shift early trying to keep the bov from going off.
Ugh I can commiserate with Morgan so well. Bought an 05 WRX, did the full version 7 Six speed, ej207, 5x114 brembo swap. Issue after issue after issue after issue. Got the car to a good point but billions of dollars later and with things still cropping up all the time I jumped ship. Bought an 18 FoST and never looked back.
Got a 18 st and is my daily, not planning to do upgrade. Its perfect how it is. Still under warranty too. No reason to have a loud obnoxious car. SLEEPER mode is best..
15k for a reliable subie motor? Lol seriously? Got to IAG and get a closed deck for half that and push 600 to the wheel. Subarus are not unreliable. Their owners just neglect them and treat them like purpose built race cars
I bought a 2015 white ST just ordered turbosmart BOV this car is so much fun to drive 10 times more fun than the golf gti I cannot wait for the exhaust soon and a tune... I miss my mk5 R 32 exhaust note though lol Im just so disappointed that the focus RS and ST is banned from the US market wtf !!!! :/
There was a 109 minute ad for the Lego Movie in the middle of this video. I wanted to watch the whole thing so David would get the extra ad revenue....but I couldn't make it through.
then why not buy a newer wrx. with the same mods it would make as much power as that st and be just as reliable. the st is reliable because the tech, much like all these newer cars. so how do you compare a brand new car with a 2002/03 car for "reliability" while still having power. you could also "still make it your own" if you wanted to stand out. cause to me, that st looks like any other one I've seen. don't get me wrong that st is cool and I would drive it but how valid is that argument?
Wrx's get a lot of shit. You have younger kids throwing all kinds of crap on their car no tune and then drive the piss outta it. Yeah shit gonna break homie. I have had no problems in my 17 wrx pushing 350hp.
Gutted stock downpipe, e30 tune, filter, and muffler delete. And you're as fast as you get. Fmic just allows you to keep the power longer. Very cheap car to go somewhat quick. With these mods you'll be stock 5.0 quick.
Is that the Rally Innovations Wing? I've been wanting to put a bigger more Rally-esque wing on my ST but I've never seen any, everyone just does Wing Risers which I don't wanna do. I'm building mine to look more like a Rally car.
I had a 2014 ST, with bolt on's. Slowest car I've owned. Then I got into a 2016 WRX with the new FA engine and with ONLY an E40 tune, it absolutely dominated the ST. But, it was unreliable as fuck, expensive and I just didn't want to deal with it anymore. Now I have a 2015 5.0 and absolutely love it and it's much faster than both my WRX and ST was lol. I've said once and I will say it forever and ever- I would MUCH rather purchase an ST and throw a big(er) turbo on it and call it a day. FWD sucks, it does, but the fact is you'll make shy of 400whp and not have to worry if it'll explode or not.
LOL, Subaru's EJ engines still blow up all the time while they're stock, not just modified ones. I really want a WRX for a winter car, but I'm not sure I want to risk having a winter car with an engine made of glass.
You can talk down Subaru all day, let’s be honest they get way more street respect than a focus st hands down. They hold their value and have the biggest supporters for a reason
Honestly, I can't see the appeal towards the ST. The GTI and R, having a MK7 GTI myself, it's just a way better car. Better interior, no cheap plastics, fantastic handling, 220 to 300whp through a single tune... the list goes on. The ST comes close, but the GTI already has the perfect formula.
I drove my mother in laws focus titanium and knew then and there. I couldn't be comfortable in a ST. It made me sad, very very sad. Curse you Jebus for making my 6'4" and 250 lbs!

Those car care products are looking mighty fine!
your are evrywhere
@@Nene-bj5ni its so annoyin
I'm sure they're even better from the original company before the relable and with a cheaper price point.
I've said it before, I'll say it again.
You're the Justin Y of Automotive videos 😂
Hey max :)
Lol David u r using brazilian funk on your product ads
Love ur channel tho
JP Mazza Brazilian funk all day sir lol
I’ve gone from a 2007 Speed3, to a 2011 WRX hatch to 2014 Fiesta ST. I can quite confidently say, the Fiesta is the most fun to drive. When I got it 3 years ago and 40k miles ago, I didn’t think I’d like it long term, now I’m just going to keep it forever. I will say, I highly recommend running 16 inch or smaller wheels on a stock suspension, it’s a bit too jarring with the 17’s.
Benjamin Eric another alternative is the bilstein b6 struts/shocks if they decide to keep 17s
David your blowing my ears out with that intro 😆
Hate to say it David but think your Mic is going. Caught a lot of background whitenoise and crackling.
I have a 17 focus st I love it and runs amazing and gets tons of attention at shows and cruise ins ☺
Good. There are to many WRX's out there! It's nice to see some diversity. I'm sick of everyone having a Mustang or a WRX...
Should have flown to Cali and driven back :) I flew to TN and drove back to florida to get my 05 Srt-4 ACR drive took forever as I avoided hiway.
I went from a nightmare 07 wrx wagon to a focus st myself.
I have a big Turbo focus st and putting that lsd in it soon. Once I'm back in the USA.
This is what my st wants to be when it grows up
I just got an hour and 45 minute ad. Watched it just for you.
kewl crusader the video hasn’t even been out for an hour 🤦🏻♂️
Oof buddy
everyone gets that ad, it's great
Me too never seen an ad that gave you a free movie pleasent surprise.
Was it the Lego ad.
Got a 18 st and is my daily, not planning to do upgrade. Its perfect how it is. Still under warranty too. No reason to have a loud obnoxious car. SLEEPER mode is best..
Curious what kind of exhaust he has. I drive a 2017 ST and liked that exhaust note I was hearing the video.
it's a depo catted downpipe with a resonator and muffler delete. the big turbo makes it much louder and deeper though.
@@thecloudedcar604 Hey man! Thanks for the reply and welcome to the ST club! I like what you've done with the car.
I've had my FoST for around a year and a half now and love it. Seeing this one makes me want to go "big turbo" someday though.
I wanted to watch the whole thing so David would get the extra ad revenue....but I couldn't make it through.
morgan seems awesome, yall are making me want a focus st
2016 STi to a 2017 RS here...don't regret it at all
Good upgrade
Yesss man
*ALL SUBARU FANBOIS: TRIGGEREDEDED*
Honda CRX Si + Suzuki Cappuccino.
Couldn't be happier.
Imagine how much he'd love a Honda.
then why not buy a newer wrx. with the same mods it would make as much power as that st and be just as reliable. the st is reliable because the tech, much like all these newer cars. so how do you compare a brand new car with a 2002/03 car for "reliability" while still having power. you could also "still make it your own" if you wanted to stand out. cause to me, that st looks like any other one I've seen. don't get me wrong that st is cool and I would drive it but how valid is that argument?
brycen yamada I’m apart of a WRX/STI page for Atlanta, and every other post is an engine issue or replacement on newer models also.
Wrx's get a lot of shit. You have younger kids throwing all kinds of crap on their car no tune and then drive the piss outta it. Yeah shit gonna break homie. I have had no problems in my 17 wrx pushing 350hp.
WRX and Reliable do not belong in the same sentence. And thats coming from a long time Subaru owner and fan Haha
Could you say the same thing about the BRZ/86 twins? With minor upgrades to the car I feel like you can have just as much fun!
No its not the same thing.
That’s my boy! Lol he bought the turbo setup from me so I can go 3076r
The body modification support for the ST is not that big
Anyone know where I can find his build? Just got an ST trying to see what you can do to them
Gutted stock downpipe, e30 tune, filter, and muffler delete. And you're as fast as you get. Fmic just allows you to keep the power longer. Very cheap car to go somewhat quick. With these mods you'll be stock 5.0 quick.
Everytime David floors it dude's faces take a crap!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
This cars sick I had the chance to check it out one day while it was at my work
I have a EUDM 2016 Fiesta ST200, and yes, that is a 3door.
He’s got a great name in New Jersey too! I’m tuned by him he’s awesome.
i want to see a volvo c30 modded with that inline 5 sound
Who the hell spends 15k on a bug eye?? Let alone a WRX.
Is that the Rally Innovations Wing? I've been wanting to put a bigger more Rally-esque wing on my ST but I've never seen any, everyone just does Wing Risers which I don't wanna do. I'm building mine to look more like a Rally car.
yes it is
Wise man. I'm chilling with the mk2 ST.
haha Love that nice little call out to Geo.
I really dig into the wing
The new Ford Fiesta and the Focus line in the UK is really ugly. It looks too soft.
Anyone having a static issue or is just me ?
Zeska Roo the audio is a bit crackly
I live in the UK and have the old focus st with the 2.5 five pot sounds lovely
I drove my mother in laws focus titanium and knew then and there. I couldn't be comfortable in a ST. It made me sad, very very sad. Curse you Jebus for making my 6'4" and 250 lbs!
Open deck blocks are a no go!
U ever wonder what life would be like without cars?
Id live a life of luxury if it weren't for the hundreds I spend on car parts every month 😂
Understandable, but I can't let go of mine
Got Rid of that heap motor problems
I got a 104 minute add 😂😂
got a ford fiesta st '09 and modified the suspension and damn on a straight you got me but in the corner i just dissapear
