I learned triads directly from you on Guitar Wisdom. For the past few years I was stuck in scales and frustrated not getting the melodic sound I wanted and if any out of key chord came along it was a huge issue, now i feel much more free as a player and more confident in soloing, then you realise once you practice that all these triads connect together so it becomes much easier to find them on the neck in any key once you get this in your mind, thank you so much Tomo! My next adventure is to now go into diminished triads and scales since thats the next place I get lost in.
Great job! Thanks so much for your passion on guitar! Keep reviewing triads! Try this video next! (More clear detail lessons are at my Guitar Wisdom as you know) ua-cam.com/video/uE0Qzw0Vb1Y/v-deo.html
You got it!
@@TomoFujitaMusic thank you Tomo I'll watch that video today!
I know about triads . I want and need to know alot more . Im listening.

Road to excellence! Thanks
Here's another of his amazing quotes:
"Lets go closer... because I don't do editing"
"If sound is not great
that's your problem
that's my problem
not the amp problem"
Tomo you are the best!
Thank you!
Ya know what I love about this guy? He can play a I-V-vi-IV (G-D-Em-C) progression that he's probably heard a million times, in open chord voicings that he's probably done a million times, IN QUARTER NOTES-and still say "Nice sounding. Such humility and reverence for the SOUND of music.
Thank you so much!
@@TomoFujitaMusic No, thank you Mr. Fujita! You help me to appreciate my journey as a musician so much more!
Great point
I’ve been practicing triads since subscribing to Guitar Wisdom four weeks ago and I can see that my playing is getting much better and my knowledge of chord tones around the fretboard is improving vastly. I also now hold my pick softly, strum lighter, avoid string noise and I don’t worry when I can’t learn everything quickly because in life you should be kind to yourself! Guitar Wisdom hidden bonus level: Life Wisdom.
Thanks so much for subscribing my Guitar Wisdom! Good job! So great to hear that.
As a 41 year old dude there’s no way I could be your actual student so I can’t say enough how invaluable your channel and videos are. Thank you!
Thanks so much! You can join my Guitar Wisdom!
@ 65 its never to late to learn, I've found there are very few things you CANT do
Professor Tomo is in his 50s so you can just tell your self you are learning from your older brother.
Been learning for 50+ years.
If it's in your heart you can learn.
After I teach my students the fundamental triads, it always blows their mind how much you can do with them. Mixing and matching them, creating phrases with them, embellishing on chord progs with them etc.... it's endless what you can do!
Triads got so much powers! Thankful!!
“If you don’t do good job, that don’t matter because you can do better job, that’s how we learn” 11:10
Thank you!!
I have a suggestion. You can make polls in youtube to distinguish the viewers who know/don't know triads . Counting comments will be a tiring work for you.
Thank you!
I started in my mid 30’s about 8 years ago. I feel like I did pretty well on my own following UA-cam vids and just exploring and practicing. Then earlier this year I discovered Tomo and his wisdom class and it has fundamentally changed the way I play learn and see the guitar. This is just the best. Thanks Tomo! You’re the best!
Thank you for sharing! Thank you so much!
This is the best lesson on triads out of all the ones I've seen on UA-cam. I'm a teacher and have been frustrated trying to find one for my students. Tomo nailed this.
Thank you~
Finally! Something that motivated me to slow down, grab a pen and paper, and refocus on fundamentals. Now I know what I’ll be practicing for the next 6 weeks… feels good to have a goal again! Thinking that triads are one of the key missing pieces for me…
So great to hear that! Thank you!
I started playing pedal steel guitar (country)....talk about a steep learning curve... forced me to understand "scale degree"....i have started loving and respecting country music
Good job!
Major - 1-3-5, Minor - 1 b3 - 5, Diminished - 1 - b3 - b5, Augmented - 1 - 3 - #5. This is how I remember my triads so I can figure out any triad chord if internet is down :-)
Thank you!
I like your approach to learning based on understanding rather than memorisation alone.🔥
Glad to hear that!
Again, i cannot express more how i find this guy so kind and honest. Tomo, u have a monstrous vocabulary of licks, and i really appreciate what you're sharing to me. Been studying triads for weeks because of you!
Thanks a lot!
Triads are super important - great for building solo's and important, especially when you want to play Jazz.
You got it!
I can locate triads across the neck but your videos are teaching me the importance of learning to locate them quickly and how to use them in a musical way. I never had this explained to me before so thank you so much.
Glad to help!
Triads open up another level of fretboard knowledge for me. Between Guitar Wisdom and your YT post, I’ve gained a ton of new ways to approach and play things I didn’t think of before. Thank you, K.
Great to hear!
Thanks so much for subscribing my Guitar Wisdom. Please use my YT channel for supplement material.
Just struck me that the notes of the triad is exactly like the notes on the piano. Thank you Mr. Fujita!
Glad it was helpful!
Lol, that's just common sense.
@@kwamethver2.033 lol. Yeah, for a regular Joe!
Yeah man learning the basics of piano really helped me with visualising chords and scales. Guitar frets are all identical but the black and white and the gaps of a piano make the concepts much clearer.
@@Jonpoo1 yes. I’m a beginner Learning piano and guitar during this COVID pandemic. Have fun!
What a triads lesson ❤ thank you teacher Domo for teaching us a very important topic in the improvisation world, I was frustrated when I started improvise cause I wasn’t able to get the melodic sound, I was stock in the scales but now with Garrison Fewell’s book and your videos I’ve improved my improvisation now I only use the scales like a maps to look at triads and its extensions and it’s easier.
Thank you so much! You're very welcome!
I learned tons of scales, and in the last year or so, I have been introduced to triads, but still learning them and their inversions.
Good job! Learn one string one finger approach on Major Scale!
Learn more triad inversions without diagrams!

CAGED has helped me increase my fretboard learning since I’m a very visually oriented learner, but as you say I don’t want to stay trapped in shapes and systems. So far, I know triads on the top three strings and I want more. Thank you for calling out the distinction between memorization and knowledge; I will go after the understanding! 😎🙏🏻💕
Happy to help! You just don't want to CAGED in! This way you will be FREE!
@@TomoFujitaMusic Hah! Well said, Sensei.
The first time I heard about the importance of triads was precisely on this channel and now I am working on incorporating it into my playing
Thank you!
I subscribed to Guitar Wisdom a month ago because of how affordable it is and I'm a total disciple now. We don't deserve Tomo.
Thanks so much for subscribing my Guitar Wisdom!
This is great... I studied the Berkley Online Beginner Course & Intermediate Guitar Course... And I studied Tai Chi and Qigong. Your guitar wisdom is perfect for me at this point, so really good... Thank you.
Thanks for sharing! Thank you!
@@TomoFujitaMusic Feels kinda silly sharing, cause nothing compares to you! Hahaha - seriously. I'm not young, and I've studied music all my life. From the Seattle avant-garde Jazz boom in the 80's to now. I'm finally just settling into enjoying my musicianship. Thank You & Bless You Funky Zen Master
I have picked up guitar again after a few years and "found" you. I am now a Music Wisdom subscriber and am in love with the instrument in a way I never was before. I was stuck in first position with the neck being out of my realm of possibility. I wanted to thank you for you instruction, your humor, and your kindness. Thank you, Tomo.
So great to hear that. Thanks for subscribing Guitar Wisdom. You're welcome!
For people who doesn't understand how he solo over chords at 11:20 ,, he literally used what he taught us. you're hearing chords in his solo because he was using triads while soloing. he set up his own tempo and chord progression and keeps it going in his mind while soloing with triads. In that way, you're making music not scales.
The triads weren't played simultaneously that is why it sounded melodic and the rest is pretty much from the tricks he learned from the other songs. This is why you should learn songs as well
Thank you!
Hi tomo. I am a beginner guitarist. watching every vids u uploaded to improve my playing🙂🙂🙂
That's great! Thank you!
The no sliding tip is amazing thanks so much
Glad you liked it!
Since picking up the guitar seven or so years ago, I had "heard" about triads, and thought I knew they were related to chord, which was close, but had no clue about "inversions," which is an unfortunate name tag for something a bit more fluid, which was revealed to me by Mr. Fujita for the first time today. Long way to go, each thing learned reveals a mountain of things to be learned and understood. Frustration overcome teaches patience.
It's really simple! Only 3 notes and 3 choices!
Slowly, deeply without any fast expectation will make this easy!
Thank you!
It's been so long since something made me stop and realize where I need to pick back up on learning again!!! Absolutely incredible lesson.
Thank you!
I love that the levels of proficiency just melt into “what’s going on, what’s going on,” and then he’s just vibin’. Such a fun way to organically show when you keep practicing conscientiously, your brain will suddenly start to surprise you with the connections it makes and that just can be taken to the stratosphere 🎉
Thanks so much!
Thank you very much for this lesson Tomo san. Your description of how to play triads made it easy for me to understand and apply. I have struggled with this for quite some time. I look forward to watching many more of your video lessons.

Tomo you are truly the best teacher because not only do you show vital guitar information but you also allow me to not judge myself as much as I would normally, your mottos have gave me great success in practice!

Your teaching style reminds me of my hero as a kid: Bruce Lee. (Nothing to do with ethnicity. We live in a very sensitive and angry world...)
Bruce was a master too; in his art and teaching. Not every master is a teacher; not every teacher is a master. You and Bruce are both.
Thank you Tomo.

@@TomoFujitaMusic you're very philosophical in your teaching like Bruce Lee was. Which for me stays with you forever as opposed to memorizing something. I'm 63 so I had to look up Mr. Bean and read about him. I understand now. Haha. Take care Master. Yes! Always a student.

Thank you so much. I've adopted the moto Don't Compare. I was going to say it only took me 68 years, but that would be comparing this me to that me. Chop wood, play triads. You are teaching me life through guitar. I'm very grateful.
Thanks for sharing! Thank you!
I knew nothing about triads. Tomo, just want to say that your channel is the absolute best guitarchannel. Your teaching is so good, keep up the good work. Love from Sweden
My pleasure!
I've been playing guitar on and off for about 17 years. Doing the best I can with playing with feel and learning some scales here or there. I would discover shapes that sounded beautiful and would connect them. Little did I know they were triads. I never knew what they were but I just knew they sounded good and seemed to be fractions of bar chords.
Until I saw your videos it all finally made sense. Now I am practicing them... Learning them and now to use them the right way thanks to you. The weirdest thing is that I feel like I know more notes now and are more comfortable with the neck after learning triads than I have my entire life playing. Thank you so much for your amazing passion for teaching. You are teaching an old dog new tricks.
Thank you! Keep up with Triads!
I absolutely will! Thank you.
You Berklee guys are the stuff… started my first course Berklee online pro tools production certificate program….Very challenging thus far. I am having to up my study game. But that’s good forcing me to get better.

I've been playing for about thirty years but now you've solved the puzzle and my questions of how do guitarists get that sound in their solos of the chord changes? Thank you, Tomo! you are an awesome teacher!! I'm excited! like learning guitar all over again!
Great to hear!
The more we understand and utilize triad arrange chord melody is not limited to so called 5 patterns chord, and ofcourse inversion make it more feasible and unique sound. Mr Tomo I just recently watch your videos Thank you for sharing. Very thoughtful and inspiring. ~Jack
Triads are so powerful! 3 notes! 3 inversions! Learn them! Thanks!
Amazing! Thank you for this lesson 🤘
Thank you! My pleasure!
I can't wait to practice these!
Fujita-san, I have a request. You know how you have videos on Mariya Takeuchi and Tatsuro Yamashita?
Could you do please make a video on Casiopea? "Dazzling", "Swear", and "Asayake" are such incredible songs, and I would love to see you break them down into their chords and explain them like you did with Plastic Love!
Great suggestion!
I think this lesson has really showed the importance of getting triads down. This definitely has opened up the neck better for me so I can figure out solos better. Great job! I appreciate the videos.
Glad it was helpful!
Obrigado Mr. Fujita! Great job!
Thank you so much!
Tomo thank you so much, you have been helping me understand the guitar and this lesson made everything click. Hope you’re doing well and keep making these amazing videos for us learners.
You're welcome!
Mr. TomoFujita, big fan of your work and I appreciate your time and material you have provided me. One personal note I wanted to share on tuning the guitar. I have found using a backtrack of the notes I am tuning to, I will first tune the string open to the key, then once adjusted I will play a major scale on that string up the neck and see if it sounds right against the backtracks steady pitch, I do this all the way through both octaves. It has helped me get a well round tune out of my guitars. Again big fans, thanks again for your wisdom.
Thank you so much!
While I understand rhe limitations of CAGED form. I don't read music, so many of your lessons lose me.so for someone who has been stuck in guitar, the CAGED system and the concept that the triads can be played all over the neck was mind blowing for me and I can now play rhythm better because of it. I'm reluctant to sign up for guitar wisdom because but seems to assume a much better musical foundation than I have. I understand the idea of scale position but haven't internalised it. I think there are a lot of people like me.
Thanks so much! Only $9.99 a month subscription so even you subscribe only month, you will discover of better way learning guitar than internet free information! You would enjoy it!
Hi Tomo, I’m so glad I found your channel, you seem like such a good teacher, would love to take lessons from the man himself! You picking hand has amazing dynamics and fluidity, it’s a pleasure to watch and hope I can play this well someday.

Happy to help!
Getting better at using them in improvs, but still got a long way to go. Thanks again.
Keep it up
Thank you for the video Tomo! Great video as usual! I did understand a song that Herb Ellis was playing with this video!
You're very welcome! Thank you!
The way I use triads:
I know which pentatonic scale overlaps with a triad so I can anchor the pentatonic scale with the triad notes and it tells me which notes to land on: either the 1, 3, or 5 to sound good.
Then, with the triads and the pentatonic scale you can fill in the rest of the scale degrees - 4 and 7 by raising the third or flattening the 1 if I want that sound.
Game changer for me.
Thank you! I teach more triads at my Guitar Wisdom.
I been studying triads for 2 weeks now thanks to you and my knowledge already is growing fast

HOMAGAD. I understand it now. While I have full understanding of how triads are built, it is very very different on the guitar. By default, I am a piano player but the fretboard has always been mysterious to me so I am trying to learn the guitar and "translate" it the way I see/visualize the piano keyboard. Both instruments are incomparable haha no matter how hard I try and this video has helped me unlock the problem I've been experiencing for a year now since I picked up the electric.
Thank you so much, Professor Fujita! Now I have a structured reference as to how I should practice my triads on the guitar.
So great to hear that. Thank you!
