Something almost no one thinks about is being able to clip your toenails and fingernails if you are in the wild for an extended time. In a SHTF scenario, an ingrown toenail could get septic. Not to mention that it's hard on your socks as well.

No disrespect, but I disagree : I bought one just out of curiosity (for comparison sake with my original), and it broke the first time I use it. Victorinox is Swiss Made, you really can't compare Made in Switzerland and Made in China (same for Made in the USA).
Carried a swiss card for 6 years, defiantly useful for EDC if you dont always carry a bag, the pen and knife in particular have been very useful, but its definitely not a useful survival tool.
You thought purely of wilderness shtf. Most people live in cities, most people will have urban shtf if it ever happens. A lot of the things you called gimmicks like the bottle cordage thing would come in really handy in a place filled with plastic trash like a city.
but... couldn't you just find actual cordage in a city? I'm not sure what else would specifically have been useful in a city. I suppose if you're just randomly stuck somewhere in a city without any choice of stored supplies and can't go out then you may be more likely to have plastic around.

One thing i dislike is when something goes "mainstream" everyone trys to get in on the action and you end up with a spread like this. A few good items but mostly junk items that people buy the hound out of.
Your depth of thinking is directly proportional to your chances of survival ;) "Info" cards are a waste; that basic type of info should already locked into your brain. The SAS book is different; it covers many things usual and unusual which the average person will probably not remember all of. A Fresnel lens is a must but this type needs a protective sleeve as these plastic ones are very easily scratched, which greatly reduces their ability to focus. A usable substitute as reading glasses for us older folks who might not have ours handy. The SOG is great for what it is, IMHO the best mini-multi you can get, but a full size multi is just SO much better that this may just be excess weight; good for an "Altoids" kit I guess but far better than wrenches on a card- those wrenches are worthless; try seeing what you can do under a car hood with those, or on your gear. The lockpicks can land you in jail; they're considered a "burglary tool" in many places unless you've got a locksmithing license. If you're willing to chance that, wrap your duct tape on that card for better 'camouflage'; maybe they won't search that deep. The 'gold card' is almost useless until the bitter end arrives- it would take a long paragraph to explain why so I'll skip it for now. Nobody gets the 'punch-out' cards right; many small needles and only one useful for the heavier sewing you'll likely need more of. The fishing cards should be nearly all simple hooks (which are very effective) with an emphasis on smaller sizes. Fishing with any type of bait is at least ten times more likely to feed you than using a lure, and bait is almost always at hand if you know how to find it. A knife small enough to fit here is almost useless for what you really need a knife to do. Spear points are hardly useful, and arrowheads need decent shanks for lashing to the shaft. Tweezers? I'd rather have a toothpick, and I can make that. All these cards are mostly gimmicks, but one or two come close to being worth carrying. I'm still waiting on the "perfect" card: a few arrowheads with decent shanks, a couple large sail-sewing needles with one small needle, one long edge with a good sawblade, the opposite corners as screwdrivers (one heavy flat blade and one #2 Phillips, an arrowhead turns the smaller screws), one short edge as a chisel/super-light 'hatchet', opposite end well-squared for batoning the chisel, scraping hides, and for striking a ferro rod, one 'scalpel' type knife, a couple coat-sized buttons with de-burred holes for use as fishing weights too, and as many mostly small plain fishhooks as you can cram in there. One side of the card mirror-polished for signaling and done in a tough stiff stainless steel. Sell it in a triple-pouch containing a Fresnel lens, some braided fishing line, a writing pen, waterproof paper, some heavy tinfoil wrapped flat around some 'lifeboat' matches and a thin ferro rod, then wrap as much duct tape around the pouch as you prefer. The pouch itself makes a small drinking cup/tinder pouch. Nothing wasted, nothing of little value, and all very useful to help you survive in the woods. Add one good brain and a real knife then you can manage.

You should do a review on a victorinox alox bantam i carry one everyday in my wallet because its so thin but still useful it has a blade and a combination tool ( bottle/can opener Phillips/flat head screwdriver and wire striper) can buy at Victorinox USA for $24

Sewing kit never gonna work with those needles. Next card to make plastic cordage is freaking awesome, cause plastic bottles are everywhere, even in the middle of ocean. You can make a raft or shelter with that cordage. And that multitool I could see myself with it. But gold is best
Easiest sewing kit: hot glue a large-eyed needle inside your pocket dental floss container. Why dental floss? 'Cos tough old bushmeat sticks in my teeth and it's bloody irritating. Plus cordage.
Another way to make cordage from plastic is take a plastic straw and sharpen it with a pencil sharpener. Pencil sharpener is also a good tool to make tinder with. Sharpen any sticks or twigs found around your camp site. Use a carpenter’s pencil sharpener as the mouth of the sharpener is slightly wider so you can make tinder out of bigger branches.
Archery nerd here:) So I shoot a longbow and hunt with it. I shoot arrows that weigh out to about 600 grains and I always shoot 245 grains for my tip weight/insert weight. Not saying anything about the arrow head to which you were referring or anything but just a word to the wise, longbows and recurve bows do well with very heavy arrows and a lot of weight from of center. Heavy arrow heads are a good thing since the bows are inherently slower than modern compounds and such. Love your channel man:)
I'm a woman and I have the Victorinox Swiss Card and I like it quite a bit. I use is as an EDC and there were times I needed to make a little cut here and there or use the tweezers. It's actually quite practical.
👏 👏 👏 this needed to be done glad it was you! I know the grimm survival stuff works I use mine. Also I believe half or those needles are ment for repairing leather. If you know anything about leather you go thru some needles!
Where I live people litter all the time. I trek into the deep woods and find plastic bottles so I can see its use. However, I can just make cordage from plant fiber. Its very abundant where I live but may not be as strong as plastic. Personally, I think its a neat little gadget.
Your video is awesome, but I strongly disagree with your take on the Victorinox Swiss Card. It's just not a SURVIVAL item, but as an EDC tool in a pre-collapse world, it's simply amazing. I added it to my walet, and I used it more than almost anything else... Great vid nontheless !
All of those are gimmicks in my opinion. I would take the space blanket which didn't make the list any day over all the rest of the stuff presented.... you'll have died of hypothermia long before you could ever think about fishing with one of those fish-hook cards...
My daughter and I use a similar spoon when we fish at our neighborhood lake. You probably won't approve of our sierra cups but they have many uses but best used as a bowl. I am teaching her outdoor and survival skills we have used several of these flat cards, foil lens, mirror, and duct tape. All of it fits in a disposable poncho , along with a mylar blanket. We are able to prepare meals while we fish and have the fun of the outdoors. I really liked this video and your opinion of these products.
What I was taught in Boy Scouts... Go to a second hand store and buy a generic spoon and fork. Ones made out of stamped stainless are best. Punch/drill a hole in the handle, near the butt end. The hole needs to be big enough to string some cordage through. Or, big enough to use a split ring to string cordage through.
Yes and less useful than other things that would take up about as much space. The best items were the tape and the foil. Having a bit of each is even better. Next I would suggest a knife that is big enough to do something with and then a lens because I may be without my glasses.
I remember crkt doing a similar larger axe head type card and the klax. Sounds like a fun toy but can't see how it could be as effective as an actual axe.
Sadly, I live in a state that if you get pulled over with a knife of any decent size in your vehicle you're automatically assumed to be "dangerous", regardless of why you were pulled over. You had better have a hunting license on your person, it had better be up to date, or you're in for a search. These cards may seem like a joke to some, but to others they may be a simple way to keep some sort of protection/prep on them without it being overt.
I think the gold would only be useful if someone already established a community with overproduction, they start to want some fancy stuff once again and you are an outsider who needs basic ressources. As long as the other person struggles to have enough to eat themselves I don't see anyone accepting gold as a currency.
So glad that you did this video on these cards since there are so many of them out there and we actually get to see what is in some of these to make a decision if it is worth buying or not! I could see by 1 or 2 of them but that would be only for an emergency backup if I had nothing else on me. At that point I guess you would just pray that it does what it's supposed to do...

One thing to think about is that laser cutting cost money so the more gimmicks your card has the pricier its going to be and if you want decent steel you're going to have to pay for it. Only buy it if you actually plan on carrying it in your wallet and see yourself using it regularly, otherwise you might as well wrap a broken knife blade in duct tape to get a slim light light knife. I've had cheap one and it was basically trash with a barely functional edge but it was better then nothing. The expensive ones can be pretty nice though, its just a credit card sized chunk of good quality stainless steel with an edge sharp enough to trim your nails or sharpen a small stick for hot dogs + a bunch of other things like can opener, some wrench sizes, flat head screw driver, ruler etc. If shit where to hit the fan and i had nothing but my wallet i guess i could strap it to a stick and make a small hatchet but the real value comes from just having it around every day in case you need to cut something small, open a can, prepare a small amount of food for a spontaneous camping trip etc.
The wallet ninja is pretty good, in places like the U.K. where carrying a multi tool can be considered a legal grey area it is useful and I carry one in my wallet for small adjustments on my motorbike and find it is better than having nothing
Exactly. I have the same. Some of us are wearing shirt and suits, and can't carry large multi tool. I have similar mult itool card in my wallet. I want to be looking business casual and having concealed resources for when the need arises.
I got a leather money clip/wallet/survival card at Walmart that I carry every day, in a 3 piece suit or a pair of jeans, it has a clip for money, multiple slots for credit cards and ID's, and a flat multitool with a few functions on it. The only function on the multitool other than the money clip is the flat head screw driver, it works great to adjust optics on my rifles...
At first, with all the survival gear you need on yourself to work in your home office is a bit not normal. But your but your honesty overlaps that. Cool video!
Most of those card tools are junk I would never consider keeping with me and the only card I have is the one which came in my survival kits and they are useless most of the time.
Gold card is nice but, it does no good if you're lost, plus it really won't take effect till later on down the road. As for being a prepper, great idea if you can afford it.
I found a box at my front door , it's a SHELTER-IN -PLACE starter kit, everyone in the county is getting one. There is a army depot in the middle of the town. This depot has every type of deadly gas stored there, along with bombs . They have had little accidents in the past . They have given us get out of town maps as well . Just about everyone here is screwed . Please keep these videos coming , at least it's giving me hope . Thanks
No, it's great as a backup tool in your wallet IMO. While you won't get on a plane with it, you can get in a lot of places that won't let you bring in even a Swiss Army Knife, forget about the other knives he was showing. Though if you can have a SAK or the like, you'll likely forget any of these things are in your wallet.
I hate to admit it, but I did not read through all the comments. I usually do, but... Anyway, a few things. One comment I did read was the proper pronunciation of Fresnel. Freh-nel or Fray-nel is correct. A few other things: 1) Many of these, though called wallet cards, I think are best used as a kit carried in a separate EDC carry only wallet in an EDC bag, or in a vehicle kit, or as part of a carry kit for whatever situation. Not something you need or want to have in your wallet that you are taking out all the time to use your credit cars or cash or ID. Makes that wallet to thick and heavy. In a separate wallet, or other case and kept available for use as needed, just not necessary on the person, then many of them have applications in situation where you would not have access to full-size or purpose made items. 2) The hatchet card 'arrowhead' I do not think is intended to be used as an arrowhead. I believe it is to be used as a reverse point with the hatchet head lashed on a stick so the combination can be used as a weapon, primarily against animals. And independently lashed to a longer, slender sapling type stick for use as a spear, especially a fish spear. It does have uses. Another factor is that whether or not it was intended to be a saw, the serations on the blade will work as a fish scaler. 3) With the Grim cards especially, and other cards where you have access to an edge that might not be very sharp initially, or is of a hard to sharpen steel such as the Grim, go ahead and sharpen the edges now, when the time and tools are available. A set of jeweler's files or a steady hand with a Dremel and rotary stone can put an edge on things that can be very sharp and will last for the timeframe that these kinds of tools are designed for use. 4) The fishhook looking 'needles' on the medical card are not fishhooks. They are another style of bandage fastener, and can be, painfully without something to dull the pain, used as suture needles. The saws on the card can be used to cut things like popsicle sticks or craft sticks, or in some cases twigs to make splints, and to make bandage tensioners (not tourniquets). They can also, though some difficulty for some fabrics, be used to cut away clothing from wound areas. Notice the rounded back edge that can go inside the clothing and will not cut the person as the saw is drawn forward to rip open the clothing. 5) Though not mentioned as part of the video, as that was not the purpose, but some of the cards that you might not want others to see due to their function, can be used as the base to wrap the aluminum foil and/or duct tape around. Triple duty (including hiding the function). 6) The Grim needle card number of needles I do not consider overkill. Though, with as hard as the steel is, I am not sure they could be bent into a fishhook effectively or for use as a curved needle suture needle. Although as in an above comment, judicial use with a Dremel tool could, in fact, sharpen them significantly, and also thin a couple of them down so they could be bent as needed into a fishhook or curved suture. Or for use as a curved sewing needle as far as that goes. Though with Grim's sticky backing one could get a couple of the separate backing cards and stick a set of curved needles to it and add a cover. 7) I also agree with the others that mentioned that plastic 2-liter bottles abound here in the US, with thousands more still on the store shelves that could be used (under appropriate circumstances) to make cordage. (And I am aware that 'if you are in a store with soda bottles still on the shelf, just get some of the cordage they have on the next shelf over. Yes. If someone has not got to it first.) And it is not just 2-liter soda bottles that can be used. Lots of other thin plastic bottles that can be used. Again, not a card I would carry in my wallet. I would want a separate wallet or container for it, with space or an included pouch to carry the small blade, bolts, and nuts that are part of the unit. 8) The second fishing card has a scaler with two different size teeth. Just in case there are some that might think that is a saw. 9) The tweezer card has additional uses than the conventional one of getting splinters out of the skin. Not having used them, I am not sure how effective the files are, nor the saw edges. One thing that might not be obvious is that there are other uses for the tweezers, too. One is picking up small objects that might have been dropped while working on something, especially cold or shaky hands. Another is cleaning fish, fowl, and other game when it is necessary to handle parts that you really cannot risk touching due to the possibility of contamination of illness from the animal, are too small to get ahold of with fingers, to give addition grip when everything is bloody from the cleaning process, and several other uses that will come to one when in the middle of something. 10) The pre-scored gold card, while not a very good way to keep gold in general, has some specific uses for specific situations. As many others said, in addition to the comment in the video, some think gold, in general, is not a good idea, while others think it is. And others think it is the cat's meow. I see, due to its form, that carrying it the way the other cards would be, in order to have 'something' that will be better than nothing, it has a great deal of positive aspects. For those that will not take gold at all, or do not trust this specific form, then you would do something else. Whatever they would take in trade. For those that will accept it, and know the value and utility of gold, then it is a done deal. It is not an either or to keep it. You use what works, and in order to use what works, you have to have it. And it will not always be the same thing. 11) The UST card, you said yourself why it needs a cover. The blade is actually fairly sharp. Not something you want exposed to your skin or in a purse. 12) The CKRT Eat'n Tool limitation in use of deeper containers is easily overcome by fastening a pen, or stick, or whatever to it. This often applies to many other types of objects. A little thinking outside the box or pushing the envelope will get you much further than just doing the immediately obvious. Just my opinion.
Someone bought me a Wallet Ninja for christmas. I thought 'yeah, this is a gimmick,' but I put it in my wallet anyway. I use it as a bottle opener more than anything, but have used the flat head screwdriver and hex wrench. Got confiscated at a security checkpoint..., but it is useful enough that my wife bought me a replacement.
Fresnel is pronounced fre nel. It is based on the last name of an inventor. The lenses were used in early light house beacons. In fact, still in use in some to this day.

I got the dog tag tools from grim tools. Hope to never need, but they are pretty cool. Added to my boots and few other spots to forget until I might need.

I just started with the whole prepper thing about 3 weeks ago. Got a few things in a bug out bag.a few things to help start fire. A lot of what you have shown here in the video would be amazing to add to my edc.
Just wanted to say good for that you've decided to get prepared for emergencies. Just remember that a lot of ppl out there use fear as a commodity and try to convince you if you don't have this item your as good as dead or this item is a must have. Do your research, shop around, and see what other ppl have to say. Also don't take all survival tips as scripture. There is a lot of b.s. I hear "experts" say that would get a person killed.

Got to it, thank you CP! I love the Victorinox tweezers for pulling out little splinters. I got the CRKT IOTA version on my keychain it’s like half the size and I use it as my main utensil while away from my home. I’m thinking about buying another one and paracording it to my emergency brake so my eating utensil doesn’t walk away on me, LOL. I’ve lost two CRKT eating tools and five or so light my fire utensils so far, numerous plastic utensils and at least one silverware, haha. P.S. I find it useful to use a ladies headband to keep my wallet together it’s useful for various other things as well. I have Pro-Knot waterproof cards in my wallet, i’ve used it at least three or four occasions, it looks comparable. I really like that small write and rain notepad I might have to pick one up from you and look up that fire box wood stove as well, niiiiiice! Thanks for the vid!!!!
I know that Grim Workshop has a Line Card with 12 yards of waxed line. That'd definitely be enough to create snares or use as fishing line. I've edc'd that UST survival card and not long after from carrying it, the button compass fell off. Still, I like that it has a 90° edge which is great for using it as a Ferro Rod scraper.
Now this may sound stupid but Minecraft pretty much taught me the Time-telling-sun-hand-trick, and I've used it to get out of bad situations. (When I was young and playing deeper in the woods.)
I can see a situation where you end up needing that little piece of gold, and then the receiver of that gold wondering, "Ok, he/she gave me this little piece, I'm sure there's more." And then the, "Where's the rest buddy?," comes in and game over.

I didn’t like readyman because theirs is too flimsy. Grim’s is really hard, maybe too hard, but I’d rather rely on that instead of the readyman. I used to hate the tiny and credit card sized tools. I still don’t like the wallet multi tool cards. But then Grim came around and changed the game. Now I’m obsessed cause they actually work.
I am new at lockpicking so take this for what it’s worth. I have the Grim lockpick card, I can not get them to open simple locks that I can easily pop with other picks.
That's because real lock picks are made with spring steel. This is overlooked by those gimmicky card makers but a crucially important quality to functional lock picks.
needle card could be used for a fish or small game spear, small game arrow tips, bent into hooks etc. I do have that crkt eat n tool... good for eating also good for digging if you don't have a shovel ( better than using your claws) and need a small hole like a dakota fire pit.
I don’t see the point in the gold card unless you’re selling it to a pawnshop. Say you need gas and I could get it for you. Now you offer me some of the squares but how do I know it’s even real gold as an average Joe? I wouldn’t.. so no help for you. In a crisis it’s better safe than sorry when dealing with other people
Suppose its a personal or local shtf rather than global melt down, easier to cash in or use in payment pretty much anywhere in the world rather than a specific local currency that limits your options. Gold is pretty much universal at the moment. Good way to carry wealth in a compact way too. Historically that's why Gold was used vs a single metal currency since even before the romans. Common citizens rarely saw a gold coin, it was mostly reserved for high value commerce. Learnt this from a Syrian doctor/refugee that got out early.
@@dimitrifortounis4787 Normal people don't want gold. They can't use it at a store, and they can't tell if it's real as Freedom1776 said. And if you ever need to turn it back into "real money" you're likely taking a loss unless it's gone up in value a lot. In the US for instance, any of those collectibles, which Gold coins are considered, are taxed at 30% when you sell. So, in real SHTF, having something commonly usable, understandable and valuable in it's own right - be it skills, hard to get foodstuffs, animals, ammo, actual tools, etc is going to be easier to trade to normal people IMO. And even for goldbugs - if all the supply lines are cut, I'd rater barter for something I know I can use than gold which I'm hoping eventually I can barter for something I need later. In the current modern world, gold is likely to be a losing store of money, especially depending on taxes when you try and convert it to something you could use to pay a bill. Most stores aren't going to take gold, and neither will most service people. I think if you're worried about a bank run or financial crash, having actual currency will be more useful in developed countries. It's even more so if you need to bug out because a stalker is after you, or to escape an abusive spouse or actual plausible scenarios that happen daily. $1,000 in twenties is going to be more useful when you have to grab and go than a 1 oz gold coin.

I was talking about gold in isolation. Knowledge and valuable skills are the best currency in the world. But if you have to carry a considerable amount of wealth discreetly over a significant distance Gold isn't the worst way to do it.
It will be worthless, you can't eat it,it won't keep you warm,no one will want it in a barter situation they will trade for useful things like salt, food,bullets,hooks,line, cigarettes, coffee,tea, sugar,spices,water, animal pelts and other items of use and value
I'd go for the 'Lost Hiker Kit' (and obviously the gold) to actually keep in my wallet (i'd insta sell the gold though) ... the other ones are mostly gimmicks to me. When it comes to utility for a bug out bag, the most useful to me are the sharpening cards. Obviously a signal mirror and freznel lens are really useful, but seeing they were included in the lost hiker kit ... Lastly on the Swiss Card, that thing is actually fairly handy in an OFFICE setting, and i could see me carrying one in a suit environment where there's a flexible working environment (aka not a fixed desk) or being at clients a lot of the time... last note, some of these items are useful, but i have no use for them in card form factor, i am a prepper so i have the actual gear they are meant to replace, and back ups. In the bags i would bring with me when i would undertake activities that would bring me in a situation where i might need them...

a file works pretty well for nail trimming, and can be used as a firesteel w/ a piece of chert or flint.

The Swiss card lite is an everyday item not a survival item.
I carried one everyday for years and it's handy as a daily use item.
No disrespect, but I disagree : I bought one just out of curiosity (for comparison sake with my original), and it broke the first time I use it. Victorinox is Swiss Made, you really can't compare Made in Switzerland and Made in China (same for Made in the USA).

Carried a swiss card for 6 years, defiantly useful for EDC if you dont always carry a bag, the pen and knife in particular have been very useful, but its definitely not a useful survival tool.

You thought purely of wilderness shtf. Most people live in cities, most people will have urban shtf if it ever happens. A lot of the things you called gimmicks like the bottle cordage thing would come in really handy in a place filled with plastic trash like a city.

One thing i dislike is when something goes "mainstream" everyone trys to get in on the action and you end up with a spread like this. A few good items but mostly junk items that people buy the hound out of.

"Info" cards are a waste; that basic type of info should already locked into your brain. The SAS book is different; it covers many things usual and unusual which the average person will probably not remember all of.
A Fresnel lens is a must but this type needs a protective sleeve as these plastic ones are very easily scratched, which greatly reduces their ability to focus. A usable substitute as reading glasses for us older folks who might not have ours handy.
The SOG is great for what it is, IMHO the best mini-multi you can get, but a full size multi is just SO much better that this may just be excess weight; good for an "Altoids" kit I guess but far better than wrenches on a card- those wrenches are worthless; try seeing what you can do under a car hood with those, or on your gear.
The lockpicks can land you in jail; they're considered a "burglary tool" in many places unless you've got a locksmithing license. If you're willing to chance that, wrap your duct tape on that card for better 'camouflage'; maybe they won't search that deep.
The 'gold card' is almost useless until the bitter end arrives- it would take a long paragraph to explain why so I'll skip it for now.
Nobody gets the 'punch-out' cards right; many small needles and only one useful for the heavier sewing you'll likely need more of. The fishing cards should be nearly all simple hooks (which are very effective) with an emphasis on smaller sizes. Fishing with any type of bait is at least ten times more likely to feed you than using a lure, and bait is almost always at hand if you know how to find it. A knife small enough to fit here is almost useless for what you really need a knife to do. Spear points are hardly useful, and arrowheads need decent shanks for lashing to the shaft. Tweezers? I'd rather have a toothpick, and I can make that. All these cards are mostly gimmicks, but one or two come close to being worth carrying.
I'm still waiting on the "perfect" card: a few arrowheads with decent shanks, a couple large sail-sewing needles with one small needle, one long edge with a good sawblade, the opposite corners as screwdrivers (one heavy flat blade and one #2 Phillips, an arrowhead turns the smaller screws), one short edge as a chisel/super-light 'hatchet', opposite end well-squared for batoning the chisel, scraping hides, and for striking a ferro rod, one 'scalpel' type knife, a couple coat-sized buttons with de-burred holes for use as fishing weights too, and as many mostly small plain fishhooks as you can cram in there. One side of the card mirror-polished for signaling and done in a tough stiff stainless steel. Sell it in a triple-pouch containing a Fresnel lens, some braided fishing line, a writing pen, waterproof paper, some heavy tinfoil wrapped flat around some 'lifeboat' matches and a thin ferro rod, then wrap as much duct tape around the pouch as you prefer. The pouch itself makes a small drinking cup/tinder pouch. Nothing wasted, nothing of little value, and all very useful to help you survive in the woods. Add one good brain and a real knife then you can manage.
Just take some regular needles and fish hooks and then secure them with duct tape, throw in some thread and foil while you're at it.
Lives in the middle of that duct tape card...

Next card to make plastic cordage is freaking awesome, cause plastic bottles are everywhere, even in the middle of ocean. You can make a raft or shelter with that cordage.

Easiest sewing kit: hot glue a large-eyed needle inside your pocket dental floss container. Why dental floss? 'Cos tough old bushmeat sticks in my teeth and it's bloody irritating. Plus cordage.

Another way to make cordage from plastic is take a plastic straw and sharpen it with a pencil sharpener. Pencil sharpener is also a good tool to make tinder with. Sharpen any sticks or twigs found around your camp site. Use a carpenter’s pencil sharpener as the mouth of the sharpener is slightly wider so you can make tinder out of bigger branches.
Archery nerd here:) So I shoot a longbow and hunt with it. I shoot arrows that weigh out to about 600 grains and I always shoot 245 grains for my tip weight/insert weight. Not saying anything about the arrow head to which you were referring or anything but just a word to the wise, longbows and recurve bows do well with very heavy arrows and a lot of weight from of center. Heavy arrow heads are a good thing since the bows are inherently slower than modern compounds and such. Love your channel man:)
I'm a woman and I have the Victorinox Swiss Card and I like it quite a bit. I use is as an EDC and there were times I needed to make a little cut here and there or use the tweezers. It's actually quite practical.

Where I live people litter all the time. I trek into the deep woods and find plastic bottles so I can see its use. However, I can just make cordage from plant fiber. Its very abundant where I live but may not be as strong as plastic. Personally, I think its a neat little gadget.

All of those are gimmicks in my opinion. I would take the space blanket which didn't make the list any day over all the rest of the stuff presented.... you'll have died of hypothermia long before you could ever think about fishing with one of those fish-hook cards...
My daughter and I use a similar spoon when we fish at our neighborhood lake. You probably won't approve of our sierra cups but they have many uses but best used as a bowl. I am teaching her outdoor and survival skills we have used several of these flat cards, foil lens, mirror, and duct tape. All of it fits in a disposable poncho , along with a mylar blanket. We are able to prepare meals while we fish and have the fun of the outdoors. I really liked this video and your opinion of these products.

What I was taught in Boy Scouts... Go to a second hand store and buy a generic spoon and fork. Ones made out of stamped stainless are best.
Punch/drill a hole in the handle, near the butt end. The hole needs to be big enough to string some cordage through. Or, big enough to use a split ring to string cordage through.
Most of these cards are just “feel good” survival safety items. It is just a “I did something”.
Yes and less useful than other things that would take up about as much space. The best items were the tape and the foil. Having a bit of each is even better. Next I would suggest a knife that is big enough to do something with and then a lens because I may be without my glasses.

I remember crkt doing a similar larger axe head type card and the klax. Sounds like a fun toy but can't see how it could be as effective as an actual axe.
Sadly, I live in a state that if you get pulled over with a knife of any decent size in your vehicle you're automatically assumed to be "dangerous", regardless of why you were pulled over. You had better have a hunting license on your person, it had better be up to date, or you're in for a search. These cards may seem like a joke to some, but to others they may be a simple way to keep some sort of protection/prep on them without it being overt.

So glad that you did this video on these cards since there are so many of them out there and we actually get to see what is in some of these to make a decision if it is worth buying or not! I could see by 1 or 2 of them but that would be only for an emergency backup if I had nothing else on me. At that point I guess you would just pray that it does what it's supposed to do...
I have the SAS survival guide and can definitely say that it is super helpful. It's one of the best survival guides I have had and it is small.
i still find inspiration from the Scout Handbook. That was about 45 yrs ago for me and i still use the lessons from it in the woods.

One thing to think about is that laser cutting cost money so the more gimmicks your card has the pricier its going to be and if you want decent steel you're going to have to pay for it. Only buy it if you actually plan on carrying it in your wallet and see yourself using it regularly, otherwise you might as well wrap a broken knife blade in duct tape to get a slim light light knife. I've had cheap one and it was basically trash with a barely functional edge but it was better then nothing. The expensive ones can be pretty nice though, its just a credit card sized chunk of good quality stainless steel with an edge sharp enough to trim your nails or sharpen a small stick for hot dogs + a bunch of other things like can opener, some wrench sizes, flat head screw driver, ruler etc. If shit where to hit the fan and i had nothing but my wallet i guess i could strap it to a stick and make a small hatchet but the real value comes from just having it around every day in case you need to cut something small, open a can, prepare a small amount of food for a spontaneous camping trip etc.

The wallet ninja is pretty good, in places like the U.K. where carrying a multi tool can be considered a legal grey area it is useful and I carry one in my wallet for small adjustments on my motorbike and find it is better than having nothing
Exactly. I have the same. Some of us are wearing shirt and suits, and can't carry large multi tool. I have similar mult itool card in my wallet. I want to be looking business casual and having concealed resources for when the need arises.
I got a leather money clip/wallet/survival card at Walmart that I carry every day, in a 3 piece suit or a pair of jeans, it has a clip for money, multiple slots for credit cards and ID's, and a flat multitool with a few functions on it. The only function on the multitool other than the money clip is the flat head screw driver, it works great to adjust optics on my rifles...

Most of those card tools are junk I would never consider keeping with me and the only card I have is the one which came in my survival kits and they are useless most of the time.
Gold card is nice but, it does no good if you're lost, plus it really won't take effect till later on down the road. As for being a prepper, great idea if you can afford it.
I found a box at my front door , it's a SHELTER-IN -PLACE starter kit, everyone in the county is getting one. There is a army depot in the middle of the town. This depot has every type of deadly gas stored there, along with bombs . They have had little accidents in the past . They have given us get out of town maps as well . Just about everyone here is screwed . Please keep these videos coming , at least it's giving me hope . Thanks

No, it's great as a backup tool in your wallet IMO. While you won't get on a plane with it, you can get in a lot of places that won't let you bring in even a Swiss Army Knife, forget about the other knives he was showing. Though if you can have a SAK or the like, you'll likely forget any of these things are in your wallet.

I hate to admit it, but I did not read through all the comments. I usually do, but... Anyway, a few things. One comment I did read was the proper pronunciation of Fresnel. Freh-nel or Fray-nel is correct. A few other things:
1) Many of these, though called wallet cards, I think are best used as a kit carried in a separate EDC carry only wallet in an EDC bag, or in a vehicle kit, or as part of a carry kit for whatever situation. Not something you need or want to have in your wallet that you are taking out all the time to use your credit cars or cash or ID. Makes that wallet to thick and heavy. In a separate wallet, or other case and kept available for use as needed, just not necessary on the person, then many of them have applications in situation where you would not have access to full-size or purpose made items.
2) The hatchet card 'arrowhead' I do not think is intended to be used as an arrowhead. I believe it is to be used as a reverse point with the hatchet head lashed on a stick so the combination can be used as a weapon, primarily against animals. And independently lashed to a longer, slender sapling type stick for use as a spear, especially a fish spear. It does have uses. Another factor is that whether or not it was intended to be a saw, the serations on the blade will work as a fish scaler.
3) With the Grim cards especially, and other cards where you have access to an edge that might not be very sharp initially, or is of a hard to sharpen steel such as the Grim, go ahead and sharpen the edges now, when the time and tools are available. A set of jeweler's files or a steady hand with a Dremel and rotary stone can put an edge on things that can be very sharp and will last for the timeframe that these kinds of tools are designed for use.
4) The fishhook looking 'needles' on the medical card are not fishhooks. They are another style of bandage fastener, and can be, painfully without something to dull the pain, used as suture needles. The saws on the card can be used to cut things like popsicle sticks or craft sticks, or in some cases twigs to make splints, and to make bandage tensioners (not tourniquets). They can also, though some difficulty for some fabrics, be used to cut away clothing from wound areas. Notice the rounded back edge that can go inside the clothing and will not cut the person as the saw is drawn forward to rip open the clothing.
5) Though not mentioned as part of the video, as that was not the purpose, but some of the cards that you might not want others to see due to their function, can be used as the base to wrap the aluminum foil and/or duct tape around. Triple duty (including hiding the function).
6) The Grim needle card number of needles I do not consider overkill. Though, with as hard as the steel is, I am not sure they could be bent into a fishhook effectively or for use as a curved needle suture needle. Although as in an above comment, judicial use with a Dremel tool could, in fact, sharpen them significantly, and also thin a couple of them down so they could be bent as needed into a fishhook or curved suture. Or for use as a curved sewing needle as far as that goes. Though with Grim's sticky backing one could get a couple of the separate backing cards and stick a set of curved needles to it and add a cover.
7) I also agree with the others that mentioned that plastic 2-liter bottles abound here in the US, with thousands more still on the store shelves that could be used (under appropriate circumstances) to make cordage. (And I am aware that 'if you are in a store with soda bottles still on the shelf, just get some of the cordage they have on the next shelf over. Yes. If someone has not got to it first.) And it is not just 2-liter soda bottles that can be used. Lots of other thin plastic bottles that can be used. Again, not a card I would carry in my wallet. I would want a separate wallet or container for it, with space or an included pouch to carry the small blade, bolts, and nuts that are part of the unit.
8) The second fishing card has a scaler with two different size teeth. Just in case there are some that might think that is a saw.
9) The tweezer card has additional uses than the conventional one of getting splinters out of the skin. Not having used them, I am not sure how effective the files are, nor the saw edges. One thing that might not be obvious is that there are other uses for the tweezers, too. One is picking up small objects that might have been dropped while working on something, especially cold or shaky hands. Another is cleaning fish, fowl, and other game when it is necessary to handle parts that you really cannot risk touching due to the possibility of contamination of illness from the animal, are too small to get ahold of with fingers, to give addition grip when everything is bloody from the cleaning process, and several other uses that will come to one when in the middle of something.
10) The pre-scored gold card, while not a very good way to keep gold in general, has some specific uses for specific situations. As many others said, in addition to the comment in the video, some think gold, in general, is not a good idea, while others think it is. And others think it is the cat's meow. I see, due to its form, that carrying it the way the other cards would be, in order to have 'something' that will be better than nothing, it has a great deal of positive aspects. For those that will not take gold at all, or do not trust this specific form, then you would do something else. Whatever they would take in trade. For those that will accept it, and know the value and utility of gold, then it is a done deal. It is not an either or to keep it. You use what works, and in order to use what works, you have to have it. And it will not always be the same thing.
11) The UST card, you said yourself why it needs a cover. The blade is actually fairly sharp. Not something you want exposed to your skin or in a purse.
12) The CKRT Eat'n Tool limitation in use of deeper containers is easily overcome by fastening a pen, or stick, or whatever to it. This often applies to many other types of objects. A little thinking outside the box or pushing the envelope will get you much further than just doing the immediately obvious.

Someone bought me a Wallet Ninja for christmas. I thought 'yeah, this is a gimmick,' but I put it in my wallet anyway. I use it as a bottle opener more than anything, but have used the flat head screwdriver and hex wrench. Got confiscated at a security checkpoint..., but it is useful enough that my wife bought me a replacement.
I haven't managed to (or need to) integrate a multi-tool into my EDC, so this has covered the rare instance i need something.

Fresnel is pronounced fre nel. It is based on the last name of an inventor. The lenses were used in early light house beacons. In fact, still in use in some to this day.

I like that idea, the dc4 is diamond/ceramic, the cc4 is ceramic with a fine side and the back side of the pouch is reversed to use as a strop if the dc4 pouch was like that it would be perfect.

UST card with dime a dozen survival tools: Yes the blade feels sharp but the edge on mine curled when I tried it on a pencil.
I just started with the whole prepper thing about 3 weeks ago. Got a few things in a bug out bag.a few things to help start fire. A lot of what you have shown here in the video would be amazing to add to my edc.
Just wanted to say good for that you've decided to get prepared for emergencies. Just remember that a lot of ppl out there use fear as a commodity and try to convince you if you don't have this item your as good as dead or this item is a must have. Do your research, shop around, and see what other ppl have to say. Also don't take all survival tips as scripture. There is a lot of b.s. I hear "experts" say that would get a person killed.

Got to it, thank you CP! I love the Victorinox tweezers for pulling out little splinters. I got the CRKT IOTA version on my keychain it’s like half the size and I use it as my main utensil while away from my home. I’m thinking about buying another one and paracording it to my emergency brake so my eating utensil doesn’t walk away on me, LOL. I’ve lost two CRKT eating tools and five or so light my fire utensils so far, numerous plastic utensils and at least one silverware, haha. P.S. I find it useful to use a ladies headband to keep my wallet together it’s useful for various other things as well. I have Pro-Knot waterproof cards in my wallet, i’ve used it at least three or four occasions, it looks comparable. I really like that small write and rain notepad I might have to pick one up from you and look up that fire box wood stove as well, niiiiiice! Thanks for the vid!!!!

I know that Grim Workshop has a Line Card with 12 yards of waxed line. That'd definitely be enough to create snares or use as fishing line.
I've edc'd that UST survival card and not long after from carrying it, the button compass fell off. Still, I like that it has a 90° edge which is great for using it as a Ferro Rod scraper.
Now this may sound stupid but Minecraft pretty much taught me the Time-telling-sun-hand-trick, and I've used it to get out of bad situations. (When I was young and playing deeper in the woods.)
I can see a situation where you end up needing that little piece of gold, and then the receiver of that gold wondering, "Ok, he/she gave me this little piece, I'm sure there's more." And then the, "Where's the rest buddy?," comes in and game over.

I didn’t like readyman because theirs is too flimsy. Grim’s is really hard, maybe too hard, but I’d rather rely on that instead of the readyman. I used to hate the tiny and credit card sized tools. I still don’t like the wallet multi tool cards. But then Grim came around and changed the game. Now I’m obsessed cause they actually work.

I am new at lockpicking so take this for what it’s worth. I have the Grim lockpick card, I can not get them to open simple locks that I can easily pop with other picks.
That's because real lock picks are made with spring steel. This is overlooked by those gimmicky card makers but a crucially important quality to functional lock picks.

The Victorinox scissors are great and much better than most bigger ones.
needle card could be used for a fish or small game spear, small game arrow tips, bent into hooks etc. I do have that crkt eat n tool... good for eating also good for digging if you don't have a shovel ( better than using your claws) and need a small hole like a dakota fire pit.
Needle card is dumb because actual needles are both more compact and more functional than those

I don’t see the point in the gold card unless you’re selling it to a pawnshop. Say you need gas and I could get it for you. Now you offer me some of the squares but how do I know it’s even real gold as an average Joe? I wouldn’t.. so no help for you. In a crisis it’s better safe than sorry when dealing with other people
Suppose its a personal or local shtf rather than global melt down, easier to cash in or use in payment pretty much anywhere in the world rather than a specific local currency that limits your options. Gold is pretty much universal at the moment. Good way to carry wealth in a compact way too. Historically that's why Gold was used vs a single metal currency since even before the romans. Common citizens rarely saw a gold coin, it was mostly reserved for high value commerce. Learnt this from a Syrian doctor/refugee that got out early.
@@dimitrifortounis4787 Normal people don't want gold. They can't use it at a store, and they can't tell if it's real as Freedom1776 said. And if you ever need to turn it back into "real money" you're likely taking a loss unless it's gone up in value a lot. In the US for instance, any of those collectibles, which Gold coins are considered, are taxed at 30% when you sell.
So, in real SHTF, having something commonly usable, understandable and valuable in it's own right - be it skills, hard to get foodstuffs, animals, ammo, actual tools, etc is going to be easier to trade to normal people IMO. And even for goldbugs - if all the supply lines are cut, I'd rater barter for something I know I can use than gold which I'm hoping eventually I can barter for something I need later.
In the current modern world, gold is likely to be a losing store of money, especially depending on taxes when you try and convert it to something you could use to pay a bill. Most stores aren't going to take gold, and neither will most service people. I think if you're worried about a bank run or financial crash, having actual currency will be more useful in developed countries. It's even more so if you need to bug out because a stalker is after you, or to escape an abusive spouse or actual plausible scenarios that happen daily. $1,000 in twenties is going to be more useful when you have to grab and go than a 1 oz gold coin.
@@jamespulver3890 will agree to disagree. Not a goldbug by any means and wouldn't exactly be rushing out to grab one but can see why in certain circumstances someone might. As stated in my post.
I was talking about gold in isolation. Knowledge and valuable skills are the best currency in the world. But if you have to carry a considerable amount of wealth discreetly over a significant distance Gold isn't the worst way to do it.
It will be worthless, you can't eat it,it won't keep you warm,no one will want it in a barter situation they will trade for useful things like salt, food,bullets,hooks,line, cigarettes, coffee,tea, sugar,spices,water, animal pelts and other items of use and value

I'd go for the 'Lost Hiker Kit' (and obviously the gold) to actually keep in my wallet (i'd insta sell the gold though) ... the other ones are mostly gimmicks to me. When it comes to utility for a bug out bag, the most useful to me are the sharpening cards. Obviously a signal mirror and freznel lens are really useful, but seeing they were included in the lost hiker kit ... Lastly on the Swiss Card, that thing is actually fairly handy in an OFFICE setting, and i could see me carrying one in a suit environment where there's a flexible working environment (aka not a fixed desk) or being at clients a lot of the time... last note, some of these items are useful, but i have no use for them in card form factor, i am a prepper so i have the actual gear they are meant to replace, and back ups. In the bags i would bring with me when i would undertake activities that would bring me in a situation where i might need them...
