Just my two cents on the Paul or Ray debate, Ray's version just isn't very personal. Paul wrote the song after he had a dream about his mother, who had died more than a decade previous. She was giving him personal advice of how to get through tough times. Ray's version is a cover, and forgive me for saying this, but in the context, the name Mary feels as if it is used religiously, and not as Mary McCartney.

I believe that twice in history a Beatles cover has eclipsed the original -Joe Cocker's iconic cover of Little Help from my Friends and John Farnhams Help. Just my two cents on the Paul or Ray debate, Ray's version just isn't very personal. Paul wrote the song after he had a dream about his mother, who had died more than a decade previous. She was giving him personal advice of how to get through tough times. Ray's version is a cover, and forgive me for saying this, but in the context, the name Mary feels as if it is used religiously, and not as Mary McCartney.
I think the beatles did believe in god, altough they did not use to attend religious services.
it's impossible to avoid the religious connotations of 'mother Mary' This is a great cover, one of the rare Beatles covers that do the original justice, but by no means does it improve upon it. I believe that twice in history a Beatles cover has eclipsed the original -Joe Cocker's iconic cover of Little Help from my Friends and John Farnhams Help. Speaking of John Farnham, there is a video on youtube of him performing Imagine live with Ray Charles. It's well worth checking out

The Beatles are my favorite group of all time and this is one of my favorite songs. Great cover by the Great Ray Charles. Paul Mccartney said in an interview that he is honored every time someone covers one of His songs. I can only imagine how honored he was that Ray Charles would cover this song. Great job thank you for sharing this.
