- Today we're discussing my favorite lens to use for concert photography: Canon's 15mm Fisheye 2.8 lens! I talk about WHY I love it for gig photos and how it can actually be used for other types of photography and videography as well(to an extent!). I've been using this lens for shows for the past few years now and it never disappoints.

Didn’t notice my collar was popped until I started editing the video 😂 damn it...
What’s YOUR favorite lens to use for concert photography??
Since I have a crop sensor on my Canon, I use my Canon 17mm-55mm lens and it works great! It’s my go-to lens.
17mm is a cool focal length on a crop sensor for concert shots!
I have the Sigma 15mm fish with an adapter. It's been adequate, but I'm excited to try the new TTArtisan 7.5 fish (and F2.0!). Otherwise, I tend to have my two rigs loaded with Sony 20mm and a Sony Zeiss 55mm.
i BOUGHT mine 10 years ago ,used it twice .You made me fall in love with it again .thank you
Glad you decided to give this lens another go! Such a fun lens to use! Cheers!
I am probably one of the handful of people who loves fisheye look. I am pairing this thing with my 8k R5C camera.
Thank so much for this video, this is 100% something I will be purchasing in the future.
Thank you so much for this vid. I currently have a manual fisheye by Altura and it's great. I haven't used it for concerts, though. I may look for a canon with the auto-focus. Thank you again!
Thanks man, appreciate that!
If you havent used yours for concerts I’d definitely give it a try! Autofocus has been a lifesaver on mine for concert photos though for sure. Nothing but good things to say about the Canon fisheye!
Great video, looks like it'll work nicely in a Party scenario for a film I'm working on.
Thanks man! And yeah definitely works well for those kinds of scenarios! You can get a pretty “trippy” look if you add movement in your shots with this sort of lens, as the lines in the scene warp around
Thank you for this!!
Hey, just wanted to leave a comment to tell you your video convinced me to buy this lens instead of the alternatives out there for fisheyes. I shoot gigs too, as well as night clubs, so this is gonna be fantastic for crowd shots and intense close-ups. Thanks for such a helpful and insightful video!
yo, that's awesome! Hope you get as much out of it as I do, still my favorite lens to shoot shows with. Shot a gig just last week and barely even switched to anything else.
Appreciate the kind words! Thank you!
I just got one of these with an EOS 3 body for $70. Great video, thank you for the information
awesome man! you're gonna have fun with it for sure!
Cheers!
You should make more videos! I prefer the way you present to most of the other UA-cam photography channels
Yo, dope vid and I also love my Canon FD fisheye, but you mentioned autofocus working great with this? How did you get the lens to talk to your camera? Mine is definitely a dumb lens. We talkin about the old FD series from the late 70s early 80s right? Did I leave my helmet on the short bus? What am I missing
Ah no! Mine is not the FD version, it's the late 80's version that was introduced with the EOS system. I think the FD is a manual focus if I'm not mistaken, no chance to get it to work I don't think...
All FD lenses are full manual, period. I have the FD 15mm fisheye, too. I freaking love it! The great thing about short focal lengths with comparatively large apertures is that we can set the focus distance to about 6' and the aperture to f:4 and get one hell of a usable hyperfocal range!
Should I save up to get this lens for my Canon 5D Mark IV, or would you say I’ll be fine with a lesser investment fisheye lens such as rokinon 8mm fisheye?
💥 Killer shot, Don. 2:34 how do you get that motion blur around the edges but not in the middle with this lens.?? 🤟🏼
tengo dos lente 15mm y 1 20mm le falta mantenimiento, te interesa estoy en venezuela
Nice intro, wow this channel makes high quality vids as channels with million subscribers
Nice video and you deserve a ton more subs! I love native lenses best of all, but before I buy this one (which I'm strongly aimed at), I ordered it's twin - *Sigma 15mm f/2.8 Fisheye* . It must be worse in all departments (especially AF and overall interaction with camera), but one... Which is super important here in my opinion - *minimum focusing distance* - Sigma has 15cm, Canon has 20cm. That's crucial for artistic close up shots, which I love. Anyway, I hope to get both and try the difference...
2:31 - 2:34 what its the tecnique to get photos like that? (sorry for bad english )
my nikkor 28-70 2.8 ED AF-S is practically glued on my Nikon d800 for shows
I'm super keen to get a fish eye lens. Not many in production atm I'm told. Has anyone tried the Sigma EF 15mm fisheye?
Shoutouts to the hat my dude. Nice video too!
Bruh. Shoutouts to YOU. You looking into fisheye lenses?
Cool to see you’re still kickin around making videos dude!
@@domdez8123 ah thank ya sir ❤️
I’m *sorta* looking into fisheyes, i shoot Micro 4/3 for now, so a 15mm would end up more like a 24 on a speed booster. I’m kinda hesitant to commit to EF lenses though, since I think I’m probably gonna be going L mount or E mount when I end up switching to full frame. Those shots are gorgeous, man!
@@ItsDrewsif Thanks man, appreciate that!
Curious to know what you're shooting on right now? You can get some cool results around 11mm on Micro 4/3, fisheye or not!
@@domdez8123 currently shooting on a Panasonic GX85 with a Panasonic 20MM 1.7 and occasionally and adapted old Olympus OM 50MM 1.8 (which I love)
I recently grabbed a vivitar 28mm 2.8 just to try and get a wider shot but it’s the softest of the soft so it’s pretty much useless lol
Awesome Video! I have a Fisheye Photography group on Facebook and posted your video there. Would love to have you as a member!

high production value with these videos
just wish your background was a bit more interesting but amazing video
Hey man, really appreciate that! Just moved into a new space some hopefully make the background better!
Thank you for the video Dom. It is cool to hear your perspective on the 15mm! I just wore out my second lens, picking up a third tomorrow as another replacement. I love it for concert photography as well. This is a favorite of mine with the lens. www.flickr.com/photos/zimfo/53807968440/in/dateposted-public/
Thumbs up and suscribe for the FFAA hat!

What is going on with your audio? There's a lot of helicopter flutter that I'm hearing... It got to be a bit nauseating by the time I reached the six minute mark.
yeah I had issues with my old microphone which caused that noise depending on where my camera was... Only noticed once I got to editing the video, I think this is the video that made me get a new mic lol. Nauseating indeed :/
