Happy Birthday Mike. After watching you split wood with the new splitter I believe it’s going to be a lot slower than the one you have. That only has 1 blade and the old one has up to 6.

I am sure the manufacturer could figure out a head replacement system... maybe a "boot" system that can slide onto the single wedge to give you a 4 or 6 way head...

@@robertcole3998 I do believe even I could figure out how to make a six way wedge for that thing. The question is would it be strong enough to push a four or six way wedge.

@@nathanscott7910 good point, but generally a unit like that would not have anything less than a 22ton cylinder and for the nice clean/knot free wood I see most people with that would be fine for a 6 way wedge... elm or gnarly maple maybe not...

Happy Birthday Mike, I'd say i hope the family spoils you but we all know you are one of the luckiest men around.. beautiful family and TOY HEAVEN.. that log splitter is impressive, simple, articulate and the mobility makes it a pleasure.. be interested to see how it holds up after a few cords of wood get processed through it.

Happy Birthday Mike! I was standing in my kitchen the other day when I caught something out of the corner of my eye. I thought it was a person and was about to go out and ask them if I could help them when I saw a doe come charging out from behind my shed. She was about 25 feet from the house and ran across the yard into the garden which was about a 60-foot run. She was immediately followed by a six-point buck who was followed by a two-point buck. Both bucks froze when I called for Ann to come look and we watched them for about five minutes. The six-point buck was nice and large, but the two-point buck was a little smaller. Great video thumbs up.

    Happy Birthday!!
The splitter looks pretty sharp. Movable without having to spend time hooking up to drag it and the conveyer to where you need it. The foot pedal looks nice and convenient, however be careful. Hands can get wild and wooly and sneak into places they shouldn't be. Could make for a terrible oopsie.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MIKE! 🎉 Sorry to say but I see the problem with that self-propelled log splitter already. There seems to be ALOT more log maneuvering with the vertical splitter than the Wolf Ridge. I think that it would add a good bit of time to the whole process than it’s worth.

The Chomper made by Rainier Corp. Eliminate cutting the rounds and turns logs into firewood automatically. All you need to do is winch the whole log into the machine, just hook up the winch cable and go no touch!!!

May be too early to draw conclusions, but the vertical cut requires more hands-on activity to shove the split pieces on to the conveyor. It gets a thumbs-up for its capability to be moved around, but I'm not confident its an improvement.

Good evening. Reminds me of a Eastonmade Axis only self propelled.
It allows a more precise split for retail wood sales. But you could do it with a horizontal splitter but it's time consuming get the bucked piece where you want it vs the vertical. IMO, 2 cents, blah, blah

Hi Mike. I have no experience log splitting except for an axe but, I see a major of issues here it's labor intensive with a lot of handling of the round both splitting it and then moving it onto the conveyor. I think to trade your Wolf Ridge for this would not be a good choice. I am very interested in your opinion. Happy Thanks Giving.

  • @kevinreilly3479
    @kevinreilly3479 Рік тому

Seems like the actual splitter wedge needs to be longer. When you were splitting some of the bigger logs the splitter wasn't long enough to split the whole thing in one pass. I agree with all the other comments about the wedge needing to be a 4 or 6 way. That would make it much faster and more efficient.

  • @nancybrown2700
    @nancybrown2700 Рік тому

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MIKE! Seem to me to be not only slower than the Wolf Ridge but also more hazardous as you must turn and handle each round more often, opening up for more chances to get your gloves or, worse yet, fingers trapped. The idea that you can drive to your site may be suitable for some folks but it would also mean more time handling the end product vs just splitting in your wood yard. For me this would be a thumbs down.

pretty impressive piece of kit there Mike, the only 2 things thats could be improved upon is replacing the drive chains on the wheels with toothed drive belts to prevent corrosion and snapping, i am sure split force could find a stock toothed belt without too much problem, and the second thing is a slightly longer splitting blade by 3 or 4 inches to enable easier/faster splitting of larger logs :) just my two pence worth

Mike - Happy Birthday #56 🎂💥 Nice setup they have with the self propelled splitter… I like it. My first observation is that you can still split more wood per hour with your Wolf Ridge because of the 4 and 6 way wedges. The ergonomic design and large working area make it easy to customize the size of your splits if you want small, medium or larger pieces -vs- the 4 and 6 way wedge on the WR. I also like the hands free foot control. 👍

Happy Birthday Mike. I believe all good people were born in October or at least I'm partial. LOL I built the first commercial log splitter in 1977. I took it to the Chainsaw Event in Stephensville Wisconsin. The next year there were many manufacturers who also had built one similar to mine. Log splitters all stayed basically the same until recent years and all the sudden there are so many nice features that have been added. To be honest with you, if I were a customer of yours, I would prefer wood that was split on your machine. I feel the quality of the split is much better. Also, there are no safety features built into the self propelled splitter. To be honest, it made my wife and me a little nervous watching you split with it. I hope they will be able to make that machine safer to operate in the future.

mike, this type of splitting wood is awesome, I have a splitter international, timber devil with 2 splitting heads and 2 log lifts. easy to do 1000 cords a year. a tip just as easy to stack your rounds on the ground in a row, and have the trailer backed up to the front of your splitter, then as you move the unit backwards it fills the trailer from front to back, although we use a processor now we use this type of unit for our re-splits we do around 1000 cords a year and have been for 32 years. Have fun.

Happy Birthday Mike! I like the design of the Split Force with splitter and conveyer together, and the self propelled function is really nice for easier positioning I believe. Being self propelled I'm thinking it is not towable, and has to be trailered, which might be a negative for moving it between properties for some people. I checked out the website and it shows, "get a quote", which we all know means they will charge you as much as they think they can get from you, so kind of a negative for me. Have a day!

You are handling each piece of wood and the trash from the wood can interfere since the wood has to stand upright. The other splitter the wood just goes right on the conveyer you don’t have to handle each piece. Another thing when you stack wood on the other you can just roll the next on down no lifting or holding in place. Love watching your videos.

The reason people make no money and charge so much per cord is because they touch the wood way to much......
I used to tell my customers I don't sell seasoned wood or deliver but my price per cord is 150$.....and it's in a pile outside the first year my customers would buy 2 cords from me and a cord of seasoned from someone else at 250$
After that first year they were loving it....
They would commonly get a pick up truck at a time too as they were all local people.....
I sold about 100 cord per year and everyone was happy....
If I was delivering any wood it was green and 225 per cord.....I did get ahead of the game a couple years and had some 6 month seasoned seasoned.....I charged another 25.00 for seasoned wood...
We live in New Jersey and have some hot days so I've found that 6 months seasons wood ok....about 19-22 percent moisture by the time they took it home and stacked it usually it would be perfect when they started burning it.....I don't like over seasoned wood....after 18 months the wood is definitely over seasoned

Should have a battery enclosure, IMO.

You're other splitter seems to be alot quicker and not as much handling of the wood, just seemed a little more efficient.

For maximum output, you could set the Wolf ridge splitter up along side the conveyor and you could run one and Eli could run the other. Twice as fast getting the wood split. I liked the view from above watching the wood get split. Lets you see the "cutting" of the rounds better.

Mike, it looks like the split Force splitters log lift base could be a little bit bigger so that you can fit a larger round or maybe a couple of rounds on it. At least in a video doesn't look very big. Bill H from Cranberry township

Also with the new blue splitter not as easy for two people to work on it. It’s probably for a one person operation

Happy belated birthday Mike. Hope this isn't a permanent replacement for the Wolf ridge. The Wolf ridge was a great machine and it had a 6-way wedge. Bill H from Cranberry township

Happy 29th birthday Mike may there be many more happy returns. This mobile log splitter seems intuitive. Probably a little bit to get used to but you will prevail Mike you always do. I don't care what color it is but I am used to seeing RED only. Hello Hunter. Thanks for sharing. Ed

Happy birthday! Unless you can get different splitting heads you are handling wood a lot more than the set up you currently have, you know that all that time handling the material costs money. Thanks, have a great day!

I really prefer your Wolf Ridge equipment Mike. This new unit is okay, but not the quality of the WR.

I dont think this machine is nearly as efficient as your current one, regardless of all the bells and whistles on the demo
