What a JAM......jumping up & down & upside-down 🤸♂️✨️🤸♀️💥. Those rhythms are just coming out of this 🎵with these funky musical arrangements.... That makes my soul come out to be born & alive in these rhythms. What a time to be embodying this song. 🎷💥🎶🕺🏾💃🏽✨️💃🏽😎🤟🏽✨️🤟🏿🔆🌛♥️
This is my favourite version of this track, those damn drums and all the extended funk in this is so bad ass, Rick was and still is the one of the baddest funksters to ever do it
Rick, They didn't call you The King of Punk Funk for nothing because you definitely rocked this planet and I am so glad that I had the honor and privilege to see you perform live a few time in concert along with the Mary Jane Girls. Loved myself some Rick James and still do. I know his bday is Feb 1st and yes I had to have a drink in Rick's honor. Rest Easy King of Punk Funk❤🙏🏾
Thanks for the inspiration your work will never die. I still recall the live shows in younger days. My bass will never behave in a RJ mode. I'm still soul searching
Been looking for this tune for 30 years now!! ...didnt know it was rick james.....and i thought it was called "beat time"!! I stumbled on this by pure accident.....after searching for 30 yrs.
@Ligerpride Thank you. Yeah very sad. R.I.P Rick and Teena. I'll never understand why they never released this version back in the day this joint is funky. I will forever love these 12 inch versions...
Happy heavenly birthday to the one and only Rick James. I love this man’s music. He knew how to funk and roll as mentioned in his 1980 top 10 soul hit “Big Time”!!!!
Leroy Burgess, Patrick Adams and Stan Lucas also worked on this. This is basically an Inner Life track. The illest disco boogie crew that ever existed.
rick was a master at putting together rhythms that would make any party jump! i followed him after i heard giveit to me baby back in the day it kills me they never released the flag on CD love that album motown did him dirty! rip rick a fan 4 life!
Hello Mr. Estrella, there was a Flag CD pressed, please search on ebay or amazon, there are a few. I own the CD double times ;-) Best wishes & kind regards!
@djalexia No problem glad to do it. Just never understood why it took them 30 years to release this version. What a waste. I would have rocked this version Big Time back in 1980...
@ancientraver19881989 Yeah it only took them 30 years to release it. I would have rocked this version hard back in 1980. Started rocking this back in 2010 and still rockin it in 2012. Better later than never...lol
I remember when my O.G. Dallas "Ponchy" Harris used to wake me up in the mornin and send me to bed at night BANGIN this one! R.I.P. to the realest nigga I ever knew!!! G.B.T.G. If I could've grown up fast enough to teach him from the mistakes that I saw him make he'd still be livin'!!!
I have his first nine albums on vinyl from 1978 to 1984 and the first album from the Stone City Band from 1980. I am a big fan of Rick & the Stone City Band and must get the rest of the albums. Please post more songs by Rick, okay?
He performed on “Soul Train” on 10/11/80 as one of two guests: He performed “Big Time” and “Mary-Go-Round” and the other guest was The S. O. S. Band and they performed “Take Your Time (Do It Right)” and “S. O. S. (Dit-Dit-Dit-Dit-Dash-Dash)”!!!
FYI Bonus track on the 2010 reissue CD of Garden of Love, the John Morales Remix. And now also available on the John Morales presents Club Motown Kings 12" Vinyl (2016).
recently bought this(garden of love) and fire it up on cd!! "unsung" on tv one should do a story on rick james 'cause, in my opinion, he was unsung. he was so much more than 'superfreak' and 'give it to me'
RICK JAMES IS THE KING OF FUNK MUSIC.NOW AND FOREVER. REST IN GREAT PEACE RICK.LOVE AND PRAYERS FROM ALL OF YOUR LOYAL FANS.LOYAL FRIENDS AND LOYAL FAMILY WORLDWIDE.NATIONWIDE. WE LOVE YOU AND WE MISS YOU VERY VERY MUCH.THANKS FOR SHARING YOUR SUPER SUPER MUSIC WITH THE WORLD.
@@steveaustin1789 I have a hard time trying to decide if Rick James and the Stone City Band or Parliament-Funkadelic is more funky, they're both favourites of mines
B Taylor Like we care. What do they know. They're just jealous they didn't experience the era. Remember the buzz you felt when you got your brand new copy of Street songs, throwing down and cold blooded etc. We don't need their approval. The memory Slick Rick King of Punk Funk will live on perfectly fine without them.
I would have to say my favorite part of this version would be at the 8:14 - 10:00 minute mark. Even though they claim this was his weakest album it still went Gold and had they released this version the album would have sold better. What was Motown thinking? Motown did some stupid stuff back then...
One of my fav. songs to hit my punching bag! Gets you grooooovin' and the duration of the song is how every good song should be, at least 9 minutes in this case 11:12 of that bomb P-funk that only Rick can deliver!! "I WAAAAAS BORN TO FUCK, I WAAAAAS BORN TO FUCK,, BORN TO FUCK, AND ROLL IN THE BIGTIME!!"

Rick helped Motown with their dragging sales in early 80s, and that STILL wasn't good enough for them.
@Denina11 your welcome just love sharing the Funk...
