How about MPG, 9 speed trans, drain in the trunk for when you have ice, no need to purchase a bed liner, auto lock breaks to prevent roll back when on a hill, 8 tie downs in the bed, how wide compared to other mid-size (does not bounce you around as much).
@@AlphaShark All, the comments above was not intended to bash his vid. Sure hope it didn't come over that way. 2 years ago I actually bought a Tacoma Limited. The 10 mile drive home was a LOT better test drive than around the block with the salesman. I took the Tacoma back the next day and a few weeks later I drove 150 to Spartanburg, SC to buy a RidgeLine RTLE.
Does that 9 speed transmission add anything, like better fuel economy? Other reviews say the 9 speed gets one mpg less than the 6 speed. If the 9 speed doesn’t give me more speed, more torque, or more fuel economy why go to the expense of a more complex transmission? It seems to me the 6 speed of the 2019, 2018, 2017 was just as good and would be easier to repair than the 9 speed. If you don’t need the complexity don’t do it.
@@foilist1 the 9 speed should do all of the above. It helps keep the engine at a steady RPM, unlike 4-6 speeds that vary as must as 1,000 RPMs between gears. The local Honda dealer loaned me a Pilot with the 9 speed. I must say it felt strange at first with 1st grear being lower than I expected. But I quickly adjusted. I did notice the engine stayed less than 2,000 RPMs while my 6 speed hangs around 2500 to 3000 and often 3500. The lack of a great shift quickly informed me that I have a habit of holding the shifter as I drive. I didn't know what to do with my right hand. :) But like the lack of knobs on the radio, things are changing. Plus I seen knobs and levers injure people in accidents.
Real truck. Yes. I owned two of them, flawless past 100,000 miles on both. I own a Tundra 1794 now and honestly the Ridgeline did everything it can except tow over 5,000 pounds. It actually drove better. Much more a car like ride. I also drove it during snow emergencies and never came close to getting stuck. Two of the best trucks I ever owned, and I owned a lot of them.
I bought a 2019 Ridgeline . I’ve hauled a bed load of fence slats and 2x4s. I’ve helped move couches. Recently remodeled an old home and put 12’ beams 8x2, 10x2, 12x2. Just drove to Austin and pulled an engine . I was carrying a Honda engine, engine hoist, air compressor, tool box, large jack, jack stands , and a cooler for food. Drove 85 to 90mph and averaged 25.9 miles per gallon. With the bed full of the engine/hoist/tools. Longer trip to Dallas and got 28mpg with 4 people and luggage driving 80-90mph. Real truck? 👍 yep
The payload max is 1549 lbs. an engine/trans was less than 500. Air compressor 75 pounds, 75 pound jack, 150 lb engine hoist, the cooler was less than 20. There were 6 tie downs. Dallas trip is 4 people no payload in the truck bed. In general 80-90 isn’t “safe” but it doesn’t even feel like 80/90. If there was traffic I’d be going 60mph because it would be bumper to bumper and no room to overtake.
How are you getting better gas mileage than any other Ridgeline owner out there? How did you get those numbers because they’re nowhere near what the sticker says!
I purchased a 2017 Ridgeline when it first came out, no regrets; living in northern Canada I have never had any issues with cold starting or winter driving. The one comment that I hear from many reviews is how everyone wishes there was a knob for volume control, you can control the volume on the steering wheel so no need to take your hand off the steering wheel to adjust the volume, not sure why it is such a pet peeve with so many reviewers.
I live in Canada too. Have you carried loads in the bed in the middle of winter? Just wonder how the plastic bed holds up in the cold. Otherwise I think thios is an awesome truck just for what they did in the truck bed alone.
so funny - I always say that as well - What is the big deal with the knob!? It's on every review, every forum, every post! Use the steering wheel volume! Why do people want to reach for the radio!? My favorite truck of all time- had a ranger and two dodge ram 1500's before this...
I'm in the frozen tundra of northern Ontario..... after 2 years with my new Honda I was pleasantly surprised last month when washing my Insight that it had a block heater that I didn't even order. Anyways I have a tuning knob for the volume on the radio and NEVER use it.... I always us the volume adjustment buttons on the steering wheel. Hope you're enjoying your Ridgeline, it might be on my list of possible vehicles in the future.
I just bought a Ridgeline as a family truck. A feature that you missed are the car seat tethers in the back. It's the only mid-sized pickup truck that accommodates three car seats across the back bench. That was a huge selling feature for me.
I drove mine to Home Depot Saturday. The guys in the lifted one-ton diesels laughed at my unibody and aerodynamic front end. I laughed watching them try to park in a crowded lot to buy a piece of PVC pipe. I guess we're even!
This gives me lots of confidence. Got mine a month ago, also an '07 with 120,400 miles when I bought it. Feels like new despite being 13+ yrs old. I've owned 6 vehicles before this one (civic, crv, frontier, maxima, camaro, mini) and I liked them all but so far the Ridgeline is my favorite!
I don't know why so many people hate on this truck. Unique bed, torque vectoring AWD, amazing handling for a truck, great rear seat room and overall interior comfort. Oh, and the ability to go 500k + miles with good maintainence. Solid review bro! 💪
500k miles. What are you basing that off of? Go join the 2gen Facebook group that nearly has 3000 member and look at all the issues people are having. Transmission shudder/overheating issues, torque converter, fuel injectors, brakes warping prematurely, oil dilution, vsm not activated correctly and active motor mounts failing prematurely. And everybody that owns one needs to install a s-vcm to deactivate vcm. Then hood constantly fludders regardless of a TSB, drivers and passengers windows fludders and vibrate specifically with a side winds and way too much wind noise at highway speeds, Bluetooth has constant problems, rear wiring harness fail due to rear tailgate swing out so rear camera will not work. And then there's the stupid maintenance schedule for this thing, rear diff every 15,000 and I have to do transmission every 20,000 miles. Yeh, really great truck!! Was my first time buying a new vehicle and my first Honda and nothing but a headache. Goodbye Honda, your Truck sucks and don't listen to consumer reports either on the POS.
Great review, thx, I have the 2019, I wanted to mention to anyone who is considering one, the absolute best part was not mentioned in this review. This SUCK (1/2 SUV / 1/2 TRUCK) is a Honda Pilot with the back cut off and a bed added on, which means it is the ONLY UNI-BODY ALL WHEEL DRIVE truck on the market. It has surprised me, I enjoy driving it on the highway so much more than a body on frame truck. I have owned all the others. The downside is it's a home owner truck not a construction truck or major towing vehicle but perfect for daily house / home depot tasks. I even find myself driving the Challenger less, LOL.
I absolutely love the look. It's the first thing that sold me on it. I looked high and low for a truck that didn't sit so high and now I've found it. It's perfect!! I love it's roominess and the features inside. I love the bed. It's exactly what I need for all my Lowe's and Home Depot runs. I don't have that 'truck' ego that says my truck needs look like one. This truck is exactly what I need. Thanks for confirming that I'm going to make a great choice. I"ll probably get one next week!
I have a 2017 Honda Ridgeline! We love it!! It’s so comfortable! The tailgate feature of opening it to the side allows you to reach what’s in the back without crawling into it. The cooler underneath is a great feature! Love Love Love the Honda Ridgeline!!
Nice review and perspectives. Bought a "new to me" 2018 Ridgeline RTL-T a little over a month ago. Other than the transmission change for 2020 (9-speed vs my 6speed) most aspects of what I have are exactly the same. Came from RAM 1500 Laramie quad cab that was a great full size truck but I didn't need it. Drove all the mid-sizers out there and the Ridgeline checked all the boxes for me.
Keep the 18 .. that 9 speed even tho it's been made since 16 on the pilot and acura they have not been proven true, like the 6 speed nor 5 speed.. Our passport 9 speed is terrible drive . Doesn't know which gear to be in.. great choice tho
We've had the 2020 RTL-E for 3 months and so far it is one of the nicest things to drive I can think of--it is definitely the most comfortable truck i've ever driven.
We just got a 2020 Ridgeline RTL-E and we LOVE it! Drives real smooth with decent tow capacity. Someone mentioned locking tailgate. The tailgate doesn’t lock but the in bed storage compartment does. Also the storage compartment has a drain plug if you want to use it as an ice chest for tailgating. So far we like everything about it.
Guy Renard curious that your tailgate doesn’t lock up on a 2020. It’s supposed to. I’m in the market for one of those and I noticed it when visiting a dealership last week in Canada. 2019s do not have a lock but 2020s do. Maybe US marker is different?
Raoul Béhem what do you know, it does lock! It just doesn’t have a key and the lock is disabled by default. The salesperson obviously didn’t know anything about this because we had asked. A quick search, though, shows you can enable it in the setup menu and then it will auto lock/unlock with the doors. Thanks! In case someone needs to know how, here is the link to the instruction video. owners.honda.com/vehicles/information/2020/Ridgeline/features/Dual-Action-Power-Locking-Tailgate/1/dual-action-power-locking-tailgate-youtube
Guy Renard actually it has a hidden release accessed by key under the tailgate so you can open it if your battery goes dead. Another hidden access is to your gas door release - it’s located behind a panel on the rear driver side door rear pillar.
Saved me from buying the wrong truck! I didn’t even know Honda made a pickup, not alone such a nice one! I’m getting one next week, all the truck I’ll ever need!
I bought the 2020 Sport, and there’s more than enough accessories for me to learn. I’m the only driver , so only one seat adjustment, one time. I’m not even a little bit disappointed in my decision. And yes, I really like the look of the other brands, as well as the Honda, but I had to choose, thanks to your review, I made the right decision for my needs.
I have owned a Honda Ridgeline since 2017, I average 24 mpg around town and 28mpg highway, it rides more like a car and handles exceptionally well, with 30,000+ miles it performs flawlessly, I have owned many vehicles and trucks in the past and the Ridgeline is without a doubt my favorite!
I would’ve never considered this vehicle I’ve always driven half ton pick ups, but I am a believer now I purchased a 2021 the other day and for someone like me who rarely tows more than 5000 pounds and uses their truck to haul gravel, sod, mulch or move a piece of furniture from time to time this is perfect. The 21 average mpg sure beats getting 12 the drive experience is different but quite enjoyable.
I almost got the deal with Tacoma last week, but after watching several video on UA-cam, I just end up with my black edition on father’s days. Damn I love this truck since the first time when I test drive.
I put the black brush bar with the KC flood lights mounted to it. Put running boards and some larger aggressive NITTO Ridge Grappler 265/65-18 on rear, & 265/60-18 on the front, my truck looks bad ass!! Everyone stops to look at my truck. My dad has a F-150 and he’s trading it in on a new Ridgeline. The pop up cargo storage in the bed was the main reason why I bought it, I use that cargo compartment every day. It’s crazy how much I can put in there. I’m a huge deer hunter, I use it for my boots and all my hunting clothes so I don’t have to keep them inside the truck. Gas mileage is awesome for a truck, or for any vehicle for that matter. Go buy one, you’ll be happy that u did.
Thanks for the informative video. I purchased a Honda Certified Pre-Owned 2020 Ridgeline RTL-E yesterday and I'm really excited about driving it for a long time. I traded my 2017 GMC Canyon STL and feel zero "buyer's regret." With 86,000 miles, I was beginning to have serious concerns about some ongoing transmission issues with the Canyon. Great rundown on the features of the Ridgeline and very well presented. Great job!
Nice video and great camera work. Ten years ago my wife bought a 2010 Ridgeline. She loves it and says she'll never get rid of it. And I doubt she ever will ! It's been an extremely reliable truck and it gives us great peace of mind at how well it gets around in the snow. She's even used it to pull out a few people that were stuck ! One small thing you didn't show in your video is how the rear seats fold up so you have a large cargo space behind the front seats. Thanks and keep up the good work !
I have a Pilot, and a Ridgeline. Con honestly say at 60 years old that these are the 2 best vehicles I’ve ever owned. From $65,000 dollar pickups that I never used the bed to a BMW X5. SUV. Both Honda’s are AWD and work perfect here in Northern Minnesota on the Canadian border. I don’t think you can buy a better engine then what Honda builds.
I just got one… it’s not just a truck. It’s a Japanese El Camino that drives like a car but allows you to haul things around town or out to the lake like a truck which is what we want. We’re not off-roaders.
I had a GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab and was not using it to it's full potential for a few years. So I traded it in for a 2018 Honda Ridgeline "Black Edition" 5 months ago and love the way it handles, just a great smooth ride, plus it's great on gas, compared to the GMC. Glad I switched. Thanks for sharing your views on the Rdgeline. :)
@@jasavak I bought a Honda Ridgeline "Black Edition ", so I can tow my 2,000 lbs travel trailer and save gas while doing it. But thanks for your concern and wasting your time on my comment. Jealously is the form of flattery. 🤫
Nicholas Oliver I’m glad I could cheer you up, yeah Monday’s always suck! I could get married, have a kid, buy my dream car and go out to dinner at my favorite place on a Monday and I’d still be like “but it’s Monday”
I have a 2013 I bought new. After 7 years I still enjoy the truck so much, I am considering another. I've looked at other midsize and I just don't see the features in them that they have in this Honda. Sure they have some features the Honda doesn't, but they aren't the ones I need or would use. Somehow Honda found the sweet spot for me. The one problem is here in Texas, the Ridgeline isn't viewed as a real truck. But I can take the teasing from my buddies. They can't have an ice cold case under the bed of their truck.
Haha it’s not just in Texas that the Ridgeline is made fun of, but I feel like if people resort to making fun of your truck they can’t find anything else wrong with you as a person! Haha someone told me if I’m taller than my truck I don’t have a real truck? What sense does that make? 😂 if it has a bed it’s a truck done! Good choice, go with the Ridgeline if you like it! It is a very practical truck. Just as much as a Tacoma or Colorado.
I have a 2017 rt awd and love it. I also test drove a Colorado but thought that was junk. The Ridgeline is more refined, and spacious rear... Awd is great in the winter. I laugh because everyone thinks they need a full size truck but never use them for heavy towing or hauling... Mazda is now coming out with a diesel midsize truck.
Yeah but the thing is, Honda doesn't have many incentives while full size trucks do. I bought a full size for the same price and only a 2 MPG penalty while getting a LOT more space, capability, and power. I like the Ridgeline and could have made do with it but with three kids I'm glad I went bigger because I've used every bit of that extra space.
Alpha Shark Pictures True...I probably would have got the new style one, but it wasn’t available in 2016. My old one got totaled by a huge Whitetail. So I ordered the Taco.
Bought my current daily to give to my daughter in few years and then it will be a Ridgeline for me. Comfortable and a pleasure to drive on those long trips to the Hatfield & McCoy Trails.
nice review, but I still like the look of the earlier versions of the ridgeline...I still have a 2012...great truck, great ride. The new ones are just too darn expensive..
Missed so many things.... * The keyless remote opens windows and sunroof by pressing the unlock twice and holding down on the 2nd press * When airing up and reach set PSI on a tire the Ridgeline honks to let you know it's reached the set PSI * Backseats are stadium style seating * When you open the driver side door the seat moved all the way back to make it easier to get in * Heated Steering wheel * 1 touch windows and sunroof * The storage is also a cooler as it has a drain plug * You can fold up the back seats for awesome storage room and it's nice and flat * Also has 2 USB ports right below the back seat vents * Now comes with Paddle shifters soooo much more still lol
I have had many cars and trucks, was in a Toyota Tacoma for several years, was looking for a newer truck and came across the Honda Ridgeline by accident, it is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned, the comfort, the leather, the truck back end so freekin cool, it’s a 2007 and I am looking to up grade to a newer one now, I loved your review, it was spot on for all the functionality and awesomeness!
The ridgeline is waay better utilitarian way then the Tacoma..every tacoma buyer ends up buying a Tacoma and spending thousands in accessories to try to make it fit ones lifestyle..Not the ridgeline..its properly designed..its better on gas, doesnt need a toolbox..rear ac and charging point and plywood fits flat across the bed..I have a tacoma limited and it's just a recreational truck..
I'm still rocking the 1g ridgeline (2010)...it's one of those vehicles you have to own to appreciate it. I don't think I would upgrade I just do not like the front tbh but everything else is 💯
Agreed. I got a 2009 and have no plans to change to a new one. The 1g’s are solidly built, drive awesome and are extremely reliable. Talked to a guy recently who had one with 300k miles. Never changed the tranny fluid and only recently needed a rebuilt transmission. A testament to how well-built Ridgelines are.
I have a 2019 ridge and it’s all the truck I need. Living in an urban area it’s easy to drive park and very comfortable. On the highway it’s extremely comfortable and quiet.
I bought a 2019 Honda Ridgeline 4 weeks ago. I really like it! Tried all the midsize trucks and so glad I chose a Honda. Only negative the hood flutters at speed especially when a truck passes on the other side of the road! Not good.
There are 2 things that can cause that, hood bumper adjustments need adjusting by the dealer. And/or there’s a TSB indicating the skin on the inside of the hood has come unglued. Both of these might help it stop. Mine was so bad a few months ago I actually heard it hit the mechanism to hold it down.
Marty S - Thanks for the info. You just pushed me to the Tacoma. I currently drive an ‘18 CR-V which performs flawlessly at high speeds (70-90) with ZERO structural issues. So disappointed to read your comment as well as that of another Ridgeline owner who cited the same issue. I was heavily leaning toward a Ridgeline, but “fluttering hoods at speed” is a dealbreaker for me. Thanks again.
@@rconn4501 You're right. I over-reacted. I've viewed a ton of review vids for both Tacoma and Ridgeline. Some of the toughest and well respected reviewers on UA-cam and other media have given the Ridgeline stellar reviews. Most of these reviewers are hardcore off-road and just general 4x4 folks who don't write off the Ridgeline as a "pretend" truck. Thanks for enlightening me!
I've always like the look of the Ridgeline and it's departure from the normal pickup truck thought process. It has everything most would need from a pickup but with a better ride. In the end, however, I went with the Ford F150. Why? well, price. With discounts and a little haggling I was able to get a far better deal for more truck (more than I need anyway). The two Honda dealers in my area just wouldn't budge on price and there were no dealer or manufacturer incentives to help. Still think it's a great truck.
That’s fair! I got a great deal on my Tacoma, at the end of the day it sometimes comes down to who has the better price, no matter what brand it is. What truck people sometimes don’t seem to grasp is you’re allowed to like the look and performance of more than one brand. I think GM and Ford make some good vehicles 😂 and GM and Ford also make some bad vehicles.
Interesting mid-size truck - things I’d like to see; 1. Full size spare tire, (if you’re towing - you can’t use a donut tire), a bit more towing capacity (6 to 7,000 range - like the Ford Ranger) - not sure if that’s possible with this unibody design? Other than that seems like once again another great Honda product.
I bought a used 2018 Ridgeline RTL-E with 11,000 mi and love everything about it. I had a 1st gen Ridgeline that I traded in for a Toyota Highlander and regretted it. I'd probably get the 3rd gen if Honda decides to build one
That was a good review and I'm glad you hit on the positives the Ridgeline offers in an objective manner. For people who don't need a full size truck this would be pretty easy to live with. Ease of parking is a huge benefit.
Yes I was one who made fun of the Ridgeline a lot before, but actually getting behind the wheel and reviewing it, I was pleasantly surprised. And doing my research I was surprised at everything Honda added to it to really make it a strong competitor.
In addition to the overlooked items mentioned in the comment you pinned you also failed to show the folding rear seats. I have a F-150 4X4 that at 14 years of age is in excellent condition. Considering that I am 69 myself I am not likely to replace it. But if I did I would strongly consider the Ridgeline. It has a very good list of features and at my age it might be nice to have a “truck” (sort of truck) that could more easily fit into tight parking spaces... such as my garage. Thanks for the video! :)
I just bought a 2019 RTL-E and having owned 1/2 ton truck this truck is 99.99 percent of all the truck I will ever need or use. The gas mileage is an amazing part of ownership. I have seen very few trucks just no able to achieve the fuel economy of my ridgeline.
I have a new 2019 Canadian Touring version that has extra goodies such as: Cooled front seats, rear passenger heater controls, CD player, signal lights on mirrors, heated perimeter windshield, auto heated seats and wheel at cold remote starts and maybe something else I may have missed. Here are more: Rain-sensing wipers Splash guards (accessory for US models) Low washer fluid level indicator Larger washer fluid tank (1.4 gallons vs. 1.0 gallon) Electronic heated seat controls with three settings vs. a rocker switch with two settings Love the truck as it does everything I need to do!
Thats exactly the version that the top trim should be, especially at nearly 50grand. I bought a 19 rtl-e and love it. But feel it's missing those other items.
2017 rtl-t owner. Love this truck, it pulls an 18 foot toy hauler camper no problem. My father, who has always had 1/2 or 3/4 ton trucks, likes it so much he is considering one as a daily driver, and replacing his big truck with a cheap beater full size for when he needs to haul his farm tractor (only a few times a year).
I don’t like the front end design. I know it looks like the Pilot but I wish it looked more like a truck. I don’t need some of the sophistication in the Ridgeline. The AWD has different modes for driving in snow, mud, rain and I wonder does that really work? I have a 2010 Ridgeline and if the back wheels spin, then 50% of power is sent to the front wheels. The truck does that automatically if the back wheels spin too much.
I have a 2019 and I absolutely love it. It’s my favorite vehicle out of six that I own, including a 2017 Corvette Z06, BMW and Infiniti. And that’s a lot to say. The ride is really smooth and quiet. The infotainment system is pretty easy to navigate and has both android and Apple CarPlay. It is plenty powerful (HP) and has decent torque. I like this 2019 transmission (with the lever) because, for example, I can open the driver’s door to check the margin of a sidewalk to avoid road rash on the rims and it keeps moving. WITH THE NEW TRANSMISSION, (THE ONE SHOWN ON THIS VIDEO WITH THE BUTTONS) IF YOU OPEN THE DOOR, IT WILL PUT IT IN PARKING AUTOMATICALLY. To me that’s a nuisance, even though the car industry is doing this for security reasons. I recommend this truck if you need to do light to moderate work and / or towing. It’s definitely a good vehicle and can be used as a daily driver. The review is quite accurate. Thanks 😊
Spot on. I had a 2016 Crosstrek. I hated it. It didn't actually fit my needs. Bought a 2019 Ridgeline and went camping with it the very first weekend. So practical.
Anti-war? And you would buy a car from those that used American POWs as slave labor? Not withstanding Bataan, unit 731, comfort women, rape of Nanking, etc. how about you cheer for the home team? US Army retired Officer
S V Thank you for protecting our country, But we’re not here to start fights. This is a channel for fun car reviews. If you don’t support Honda I respect that that is your opinion. But no need to try to change anyone else’s mind. I drive a Toyota, and yes the Japanese did terrible things to us in WW2, but we’ve done terrible things to them too. American’s, German’s, Japanese, Chinese heck even Canadians have done horrendous things. But Romans 3:23 says “for ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” I am not perfect, I’m a sinner and by God’s grace he forgave me. I don’t know if this is a quote, but I just thought of it now so it’s about to be a quote! “The best revenge is forgiveness.” If you forgive the people that wronged you you’d be surprised how the thoughts of anger leave you.
I've git a 2008 Ridgeline that in premium condition. I like it's look far better overall then the new versions. Besides this Honda produces a great product period. The only draw back for truck lovers is if you need to load or tow greater weights then 1500 and 5000 lbs then the Ridgeline just isn't your truck. Outside of this and its look the Ridgeline trumps every midsized truck on performance.
First I never thought I'd buy a Honda pickup, but I got a REALLY good deal on a 2017 RTL-E, and I love it no complaints at all. One thing with mine is the gas mileage is 25-31 on the highway and I drive it 70, I'm happy, but why the difference. I would diffrntly buy again in a heart beat'
Due to the wider bed width vs every other midsize I have been able to go get pallets of cement forklifted directly into the bed. I also carry my 12ft Jon boat flat in the bed because wider then the competition. I absolutely love it.
@@yourgetinbit7711 it works really well. I got a wheel thing for the boat when I bought it and can easily roll it to the launch by myself. Good luck fishing!
My only gripes with my 06 ridgeline are the turn radius, the interior roof liner, the seat belt alarm, and the fact that it locks all the doors once I start driving but doesn't unlock them once I turn the engine off and exit. Ridgelines are great SUV's with a truck bed. They are roomy, comfortable, quiet, and offer lots of useful features such as the two way tailgate, the trunk, and AWD versions. I f I were Honda I'd make the wheel wells larger and put a bigger wheel on them. They look funny with the smaller wheels and big bulky body.
I also really like the Ridgeline, but I winced a bit when Honda increased the base MSRP even further for 2020 by eliminating the base trim. The Ridgeline was already the more expensive than every other midsize truck besides the Gladiator and now it's base price is higher than even the Gladiator! Now look, I'm no fool. I know that if the base trim for the Ridgeline sold well that Honda would not have gotten rid of it. But I also know that Honda currently has a monopoly on all-wheel-independent suspension pickup trucks so they can charge whatever the heck they want for it and the people who want a smooth-driving truck will have to pay that price. (This is why monopolies are bad and competition is good. the consumer wins when brands compete). Unfortunately for the Ridgeline, it's monopoly will soon come to an end as by the end of next year Hyundai will have introduced their Santa Cruz Pickup and Ford will have introduced their Courier (which will supposedly start at under $20,000). Once that happens, people will no longer have to spend over 30-grand to get a "pickup that rides like a car" and Honda may find itself in an awkward spot with the Ridgeline.
I am very interested to see how this plays out as I've been closely following the new trucks leaks and such, you're very correct on all these points! Honda will have to change up their structure if they want to compete going forward.
@@AlphaShark In todays Covid 19 market, I noticed TV ads claiming no payments for 6 months. I am sure Honda will be doing the same type of incentive. I like the RTL E since you can have the extra options sunroof/rear sliding window, in which I found the other competitors had them too, just not all inclusive like the RTL E version.
Honda might not be known as a truck company but I will put the Ridgeline against any other brand that competes in the category.I owned a 2006 Ridgeline and that was literally one of my best vehicles ever owned. I just now purchased a 2020 Ridgeline RTL-E and It’s even better than my 14 year old version. With not only a built in bed liner which no other truck had it’s also the only truck that has a trunk within the bed. It not only has a storage area it can be used as an ice chest and it has a drain plug what other truck has that umm none. It’s built on the Honda Pilots platform so here’s the other amazing factor in my book it doesn’t drive like a truck. I could go on and on about how the Ridgeline in my opinion crushes the competition but being a previous owner of an older version I can definitely say it got even better.
I still have my 2006 and have zero complaints. Only 99,0000 miles. The only thing I dont care particularly about the new version in the look. I myself prefer the older style look myself.
I love my RL, but wish Honda gave the US the same added features that Canada receives: such as rear climate controls, rear seat heaters and side mirror turn signals. Also, I added a chrome kit to the front grill the change the look a bit.
I bought a 2006 Honda Ridgeline the first year made. I put 215,000 miles on it and never had any problems with it. It's the only vehicle that I never grew tired of. Recently traded for a 2020 F150 and wish I'd kept the Honda just to see how long it would last.
Don't need a volume knob...at all... use the steering wheel control...a lot more practical. ....... some people cannot seem to evolve and stuck in the past🙄. The Ridgeline is an excellent, practical Truck.
The steering wheel volume control means you will NEVER reach for that knob, trust me, I can't even imagine my 2019 with a knob. It's all good! No worries! Just test drive it - you'll get it that day.
If the payment wasn't so high I would own one right now. Instead I got a 2020 civic sport 6MT. I'm still pleasantly surprised by how much I like that car. Honda has been knocking it out of the park the past few years.
Nice truck. Lost me with not having a shifter though. Not a fan of pushing buttons to put it in drive and reverse. I'm no Chevy fan but I wish more manufactures would go to a column shifter!
I really dig this SUV like truck, looks more comfy than a traditional truck as a daily. Only concern I have is if I had a flat and with a loaded bed, would be a pain to get the spare tire out.....hmm
How’s the undercarriage and the engine is it rust p rust proof theses trucks they rust pretty quickly the front of the looks like a car and then looks like the Honda Pilot on the side missing it’s backside so it’s a pilot/pickup so how’s the 4x4 ride on it is it capable going off road
I’ve got an ‘08 with 164K miles on it now and I downgraded from Chevy 2500 HD due to having to haul a 31 foot travel trailer! I sold the Chevy (too many electrical problems) and the trailer and have really enjoyed the utility of this platform as a daily driver! Sooo much storage, cozy seating, and great Honda handling! Mileage is not good at 18-19 MPH. Honda did a bit better with the new models, but I’m not yet convinced that can’t tweak a little better MPG with this l3.5L engine they had years to refine! The best part, my wife really likes driving it due to the quick acceleration, comfort when driving it on long road trips, and easy parking in comparison to the Chevy! We keep up on the routine maintenance and the Ridgeline keeps us smiling!!! I usually get 15+ years and 200-250K out of my vehicles before I start searching for my next one! But I may keep this truck as long as it can take me! If I remember, I’ll post an update in about 7 more years!
The backseat of the Ridgeline with its “stadium seating” is incredible - you can’t put a grown man in the backseat of a Tacoma, the Ridgeline has room for grown-ups in the back and elevates them for outstanding view going forward. 51,000 miles zero troubles
Really like the 2020 Ridgeline. Thing is, I'm still driving one of the first 2006 Ridgeline RTLs with 160K on it now. Still runs like a top with just regular maintenance, and it really is one of the best riding vehicles I've ever had. Makes it awfully hard to part with another $40K or so for the new features.
2009, same deal.. I`m ...happy driving my truck(ette). My only deal is with Covid, we brought a small trailer (3450lbs dry) and Im not happy towing with the 4 speed and looking at a 2020 replacement..
How about MPG, 9 speed trans, drain in the trunk for when you have ice, no need to purchase a bed liner, auto lock breaks to prevent roll back when on a hill, 8 tie downs in the bed, how wide compared to other mid-size (does not bounce you around as much).
I always miss something, I appreciate it! I'll bump your comment to the top for those wondering about additional features. :)
The only manufacture to compete with the drain is Ram, as there are drains in the Rambox's.
Real truck? 👍 yep
You were near the max payload and drove at 85+ mph? That is extremely unsafe! Always drive slower with a large payload and/or towing.
@@chrisrobles2012 That's a better response than I was expecting. You've at least given thought to your load, which is great.
Stay safe.
Chris
@@loganholmberg2295 2009 here. Its fine. The old bed scratched up a lot but apparently they fixed that with the new design.
When it first came out?
I just bought a Ridgeline as a family truck. A feature that you missed are the car seat tethers in the back. It's the only mid-sized pickup truck that accommodates three car seats across the back bench. That was a huge selling feature for me.
Thank you for this comment. As I consider surrendering to the siren call of a seven-seater, I like knowing I can get three car seats side by side.
Thank you! I have 3 kids so this comment really helped me.
I drove mine to Home Depot Saturday. The guys in the lifted one-ton diesels laughed at my unibody and aerodynamic front end. I laughed watching them try to park in a crowded lot to buy a piece of PVC pipe. I guess we're even!
you could have added that yours cost at least $20,000 less and... it fits in the garage which sure feels great on a hot day or a cold day.
You have to forgive them. They drive their large lifted trucks to compensate for their tiny dicks.
They're just jealous that they spent more than you did for less gas mileage, comfort and maneuverability
I own one and love it! Best vehicle I’ve ever owned. And FYI, in addition to touch screen,
volume knob is on the steering wheel, where it should be.
I bought the 2020 Ridgeline AWD fully loaded and I love it
2007 ridgeline with 350,000 miles here. Will buy another.
Thanks! I honestly think because it's a Honda and people don't think of Honda as a truck manufacturer.
500k lol. Its a disposable goofy thing. Don't get me wrong, I am on my 3rd Honda Civic. But cmon people , this truck is silly.
@@jasavak Thats your opinion and you can have that!
@@jasavak lol, the new civic looks silly and ugly as well.
Just bought one earlier this week, traded in my 2008 Ridgeline. Love this truck
Its a great truck for the right buyer and that would be me.
That’s great! I didn’t know this many people loved it till I reviewed it! I have found a new respect for it.
That's awesome!
Keep the 18 .. that 9 speed even tho it's been made since 16 on the pilot and acura they have not been proven true, like the 6 speed nor 5 speed.. Our passport 9 speed is terrible drive . Doesn't know which gear to be in.. great choice tho
Guillermo Ortiz I’ve read the issues with the 9 speed and I’m glad I don’t have one.
Thanks for your info! I love that a "truck guy" ended up buying a Ridgeline after testing all the mid-size trucks! Makes my decision even easier.
I’m in the market for one of those and
I noticed it when visiting a dealership last week in Canada.
You can buy a lock at hour Honda dealership. It’s an option. Convenient, if you add the tonneau cover.
Raúl Ramos if you read my reply you would see I looked it up online and now know how to lock my tailgate. I don’t need to buy anything.
Looking at all new 2021 Ridgeline also. Love the new front end.
you will love it!
Lying about the mpg
I would’ve never considered this vehicle I’ve always driven half ton pick ups, but I am a believer now I purchased a 2021 the other day and for someone like me who rarely tows more than 5000 pounds and uses their truck to haul gravel, sod, mulch or move a piece of furniture from time to time this is perfect. The 21 average mpg sure beats getting 12 the drive experience is different but quite enjoyable.
Love my 2019 Ridgeline
I love my Black Edition. Best vehicle we’ve ever owned.
Same here
I almost got the deal with Tacoma last week, but after watching several video on UA-cam, I just end up with my black edition on father’s days. Damn I love this truck since the first time when I test drive.
I've seen the Black Edition Ridgeline at my Honda dealer....... that is some sweet truck!!!
I own a 2010 Ridgeline with 125k miles. Still going strong. It’s worth mentioning the quiet interior noise while at highway speeds.
You're very welcome! Enjoy your Ridgeline!
Youbou That is because you switched from a truck to a car. You should have just bought a Honda Civic .

2013 here as well best truck I’ve owned honestly, if I ever upgrade it will be another one
I drove the 2006 model for 12 years with no problems. The only thing I didn’t like about it was that you couldn’t lift it or mod it. Great video!
Thanks! That is disappointing you couldn't mod it, but I'd take reliability over modding any day!
Alpha Shark Pictures True...I probably would have got the new style one, but it wasn’t available in 2016. My old one got totaled by a huge Whitetail. So I ordered the Taco.
@@jimmijo9148 Good move!

nice review, but I still like the look of the earlier versions of the ridgeline...I still have a 2012...great truck, great ride. The new ones are just too darn expensive..
I intended on driving my 2009 for a couple more years, but I couldn't pass up. the 1% financing, so I now have a 2020.
Missed so many things....
* The keyless remote opens windows and sunroof by pressing the unlock twice and holding down on the 2nd press
* When airing up and reach set PSI on a tire the Ridgeline honks to let you know it's reached the set PSI
* Backseats are stadium style seating
* When you open the driver side door the seat moved all the way back to make it easier to get in
* Heated Steering wheel
* 1 touch windows and sunroof
* The storage is also a cooler as it has a drain plug
* You can fold up the back seats for awesome storage room and it's nice and flat
* Also has 2 USB ports right below the back seat vents
* Now comes with Paddle shifters
soooo much more still lol
I have had many cars and trucks, was in a Toyota Tacoma for several years, was looking for a newer truck and came across the Honda Ridgeline by accident, it is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned, the comfort, the leather, the truck back end so freekin cool, it’s a 2007 and I am looking to up grade to a newer one now, I loved your review, it was spot on for all the functionality and awesomeness!

Since Honda fixed the front and rear end for 2021, it should be a great mid-sized truck, now!
I always thought it was a great truck.
Your exactly right about the new front.
But these people still hate on the Ridgeline.
Best car/truck I ever had. Great look great power..i have a 17 Rtlt and I LOVE IT.
I really like the Ridgeline and can’t wait to buy one it is the perfect vehicle for me...thanks for the review....!!
I don't think I would upgrade I just do not like the front tbh but everything else is 💯
My 2008 has 270K keeping it until the wheels fall off
@@greenhavennn I'd heavily reconsider. This truck is so unique in its versatility...definitely cool for parties & travel as well!
Will be buying a low mile one in '22 off lease like i did with my '15 pilot and save a bundle.Cool suv
Bought a RTL-E a little over a month ago. Drove the other mid sized trucks. This was the stand out. I love it.
Absolutely possible. They'd have to beef up the transmission, which they don't want to do.
I bought a used 2018 Ridgeline RTL-E with 11,000 mi and love everything about it. I had a 1st gen Ridgeline that I traded in for a Toyota Highlander and regretted it. I'd probably get the 3rd gen if Honda decides to build one
Dustin Kolish...How much did you pay? I’m in the market for one in AWD.
It's an excellent Truck...that's it!
Just got one but can't turn on the top long LED running lights, you know how, please
I'm planning to buy one in the near future
Love the 2021 Ridgeline new front end look. Ready to pull the trigger and buy.
I have a new 2019 Canadian Touring version that has extra goodies such as:
Cooled front seats, rear passenger heater controls, CD player, signal lights on mirrors, heated perimeter windshield, auto heated seats and wheel at cold remote starts and maybe something else I may have missed.
Here are more:
Rain-sensing wipers
Splash guards (accessory for US models)
Low washer fluid level indicator
Larger washer fluid tank (1.4 gallons vs. 1.0 gallon)
Electronic heated seat controls with three settings vs. a rocker switch with two settings
Love the truck as it does everything I need to do!
I am waiting for these features to hit the US model!
This really convinced me to narrow down my options to make the Ridgeline my #1 pick. Thanks for the great honest comparative review
I love my 2020 Ridgeline and it does everything I need it to do at the right price point.
Excellent video. I like the versatility of the Ridgeline, and the reliability that Honda is known for. I'm sold. Thanks.
anti war veteran I always love that I can help people’s buying decisions.
I love the ridge line i had the 2010 version and it was amazing
That's awesome!
cindy schoman...Care to share your purchase details?
Due to the wider bed width vs every other midsize I have been able to go get pallets of cement forklifted directly into the bed.
I also carry my 12ft Jon boat flat in the bed because wider then the competition. I absolutely love it.
Never thought of putting my Jon boat in mine, this absolutely brilliant. I love fishing off the trail lakes. Thanks dude.
Not to sure what i think of the Honda Ridgeline??🤔 it cool that it has almost every option.. good video thou!👍
I just bought my 2023 Ridgeline sport base model a couple weeks ago and I don't care what people call it or think about it I just love it
I liked your review of the Ridgeline , any chance of seeing a test drive of the truck in the future ?
That truck would be a top choice for me thanks for the review keep up the good work
Thank you 😁
Honda might not be known as a truck company but I will put the Ridgeline against any other brand that competes in the category.I owned a 2006 Ridgeline and that was literally one of my best vehicles ever owned.
Best vehicle i've ever owned 2017 Ridgeline
I love my RL, but wish Honda gave the US the same added features that Canada receives: such as rear climate controls, rear seat heaters and side mirror turn signals. Also, I added a chrome kit to the front grill the change the look a bit.
I bought a 2006 Honda Ridgeline the first year made. I put 215,000 miles on it and never had any problems with it. It's the only vehicle that I never grew tired of. Recently traded for a 2020 F150 and wish I'd kept the Honda just to see how long it would last.
This my second Ridgeline and I love it first generation and not the 2nd generation very practical
How does the new body come out
Don't need a volume knob...at all... use the steering wheel control...a lot more practical. ....... some people cannot seem to evolve and stuck in the past🙄.
The Ridgeline is an excellent, practical Truck.
Hey, great review!. I’m a CR-V owner for decades but this is my next ride. The CR-V does have the volume knob. I need that knob. 😳
The steering wheel volume control means you will NEVER reach for that knob, trust me, I can't even imagine my 2019 with a knob. It's all good! No worries! Just test drive it - you'll get it that day.
Michael Seymour I am now the proud owner of a 2020 Ridgeline RTLE AWD. She’s Black. And the Cooler rocks. I. Still. Want. That. Knob.
If the payment wasn't so high I would own one right now. Instead I got a 2020 civic sport 6MT. I'm still pleasantly surprised by how much I like that car. Honda has been knocking it out of the park the past few years.
Nice review, and finally a UA-camr from the NJ/PA area! But, yea, our weather doesn’t quite hold up to Joe’s in Florida 🥶
Feels bigger inside. Probably because it is.
Quick question...do the rear seats recline at all???
I believe so!
I wouldn't own one, but I'm not going to knock it either. If the Honda Ridgeline fits your needs, then by all means, go for it.
Then why say anything. ??????
@@yourgetinbit7711 Because I can.
@@jamesm568 Thanks
Nice truck. Lost me with not having a shifter though. Not a fan of pushing buttons to put it in drive and reverse. I'm no Chevy fan but I wish more manufactures would go to a column shifter!
Nissan has column, so does Ford. And Toyota rounds us out with a center tunnel shifter on Tundra and Tacoma
@@AlphaShark True but I mean in the midsize truck market. I don't think any make has a column shifter.
@@rocknrollresignation93 correct!
I really dig this SUV like truck, looks more comfy than a traditional truck as a daily. Only concern I have is if I had a flat and with a loaded bed, would be a pain to get the spare tire out.....hmm
Column shifter is fine. No need for buttons in the center area.
Very capable and I’d say it’s as rustproof as any other modern truck!
Good job. First time visitor and I've seen more years of reviews than you've been alive. Keep it up and grow, you have potential!
Alan Reams thank you!
Cannot wait to get one.
When will the all new Ridgeline come out?
February 2021. Love the front end look of the 2021 Ridgeline.
@@Jeff-or6em Just purchased a 2022 Ridgeline RTL-E in Pewter color. So far this BEAST is amazing.
The backseat of the Ridgeline with its “stadium seating” is incredible - you can’t put a grown man in the backseat of a Tacoma, the Ridgeline has room for grown-ups in the back and elevates them for outstanding view going forward. 51,000 miles zero troubles
Honda needs to make that tailgate a dual door.
I love my 17 ridgeline. It is like driving my XC90 with a bed. Very comfortable interior, and the bed features, unique. MPG is great.
