Hello to Don Wilson. I’ve enjoyed his movies for years. My brother Dan worked for Roger Corman while Don was there. I think my sister even went bowling one time with Don, Dan and a group of people from Concord Pictures.
Matthias Hues is also a Guy who didn't got the recognition he deserve. He was Always great in his "Bad Guy" roles and got that Charisma, so you hate his Charakters. It was his luck that Van Damme turn down the Role in "No Retreat, no Surrender 2". The Same luck Loren Avedon had with the same Film. Of course his Huge and threatening appearence helped him. I Loved his Appearences in "Kickboxer 2", "Fist Of Iron" and "Death Match". I believe his biggest success was "Dark Angel" with Dolph Lundgren. I read a German Interview of him, he seems to be a very nice Guy in real life

I remember being hyped for a new Don Wilson movie called "Black Belt." I was very disappointed when it wasn't really a movie about martial arts. With a movie called Black Belt you expect a tournament or something else that is very focused on the martial way.
Was expecting Don to say he was ashamed because it had naughty naughty bouncy bouncy time scenes but he meant something different which was really not required to show motivation for him to be a killer. Haven't seen Black Belt in years but recall it as one of his better film roles not like his fart in a trance performances in most of his other movies.
I like hearing your experiences as an April 1980 baby myself lol, not supposed to watch! My parent's didn't know that the long play VHS someone gave us with Top Gun and Lady and the Tramp also had Robocop on it. I spent all of the summer of '90 watching it over and over again lolol. That's what they get for putting the VCR in the basement.
Damn your parents wouldn't let you watch robocop? It's every 10 years old right to watch those 80s action movies, I watch them all with my 8 yo son and he loves them.
Wow! May 1980, and the VCR in the basement enabled me to watch Full Metal Jacket even though I wasn’t allowed to. 😆

Great interview! I actually liked black belt. Lots of good fight scenes by both Don and Mathhias. I think Mathhias played a great villain..his size combined with his technique looked lethal! He and Don should have done a few more movies together. The Italian mafia guy was also a pretty good character . There was another movie Matthias did called " Fist of Iron" where he again plays a professional fighter/ mercenary. Kills a guy in the ring and at the end the guys best friend has to fight him.

Red Sun Rising was my favorite Don Wilson movie. Didn't like Black Belt. Because of the big Karate Dojo fight scene. Enjoyed watching his movies on Cinemax, in the 90's/00 on Saturday night's.

Understand his concearn about that scene for sure. But i honestly think it was one of his best films. Actually good/dark story, good fights which were nicely choreographed and filmed! And Hughes was a decent villian!

Also, fun little piece of trivia. One of Don “The Dragon” Wilson’s earliest credited film roles was in Say Anything with John Cusack, he plays Cusack’s sparring partner.

I remember seeing Black Belt on Cinemax back in the mid to late 90's time frame. I thought it was a good action film. A bit cheesy script, but a hell of a fun movie to see.
What's amazing is he's right about which of his movies are his best- Red Sun Rising, Out for Blood, and Forced to Fight (Bloodfist part whatever). Seriously, I've watched so many of his movies that are GAWD-AWFUL (which isn't really a slight- I wouldn't keep coming back and checking out his work if Don wasn't interesting to watch) that all blend together, but those three are absolutely the best of his filmography.
*Black Belt (1990)* I owned that film on VHS back in the day. I owned most _Matthia Hues_ films. I understand why Don didn't like the sexual abuse angle but it is actually one of his better films! *Red Sun Rising* is his best IMO.
well it actually is a legit backstory for a serial killer ,but maybe not for the genre of martial arts action movie because well in those types of movies having a sympathetic villain is not exactly something very common.
Man of some of the reviews of blackbelt on imdb are hilarious. "watched this film for 45 minutes and counted 9 mullets. That's a mullet every 5 minutes. Seriously though, this film is living proof that formula works" "Look Don The Dragon Wilson may be a great legitimate fighter but he is terrible on screen in this movie. The movements are slow and the choreography boring and ponderous. he also makes Chuck Norris look like Laurence Olivier in that he has ZERO acting ability and almost no charisma"
Indeed, Don is a very good storyteller and very generous in anecdotes. My favorites movies from him are Bloodfist 2, the concept of kumite goes to a higher level, and Black Belt, relesead in France as...:"Kickboxer cop". I had especially liked that movie for various reasons such as Matthias Hues, who is amazing to the screen, the fights and, especially, the touch mature of that story... It's specially that Don - I absolutely respect his opinion - dislike. Maybe, I am not sure but it's possible, because I am european and that element of that story pleased to me. The caracter seemed to me more realistic, plausible. So, I reminded more this story than others... However, Don is really fair to speak about survey. I had the impression, somewhere, Don was playing the same kind of white knight from movies to movies, a little bit such as Chuck Norris or Jackie Chan... Many thanks to you, Don, and Viking Samourai for this agora.
Don's best movie, in my opinion, is Ring of Fire, even though he's more of a co-star in that one. If you haven't seen that one and can track it down, you should.
I agree with Don's take on the weird/'off' scene in 'Black-Belt' but my guess is that the scene could have been largely lost to the younger audience, as they generally, would not have fully understood what the misguided director was going for. The older audience would have understood though, and of course it was a scene that really wasn't needed at all. I also agree that 'explicit' scenes in Martial Arts movies are just not needed.
I'd say that Blackbelt was one of his better films. Matthias Hues was, I think, the best and most intimidating villain. He really dominated the dragon in the first half of that final fight.
Very intressting and nice again. I liked Black Belt to. I waa 19. Or 20 , so i liked the nude scene ☝️🤣 And also that the Idea that the Killer is a maniac , because he had this inzest realtionship with his mother. For me it was a little hommage on Hitchcock's Psycho. For me one of Dons better movies 🤗
@jpssteveshanahan thats right. But also Hitchcock had this in his head. And when Hitchcock made the movie, he did not say it directly. Sorry for my bad english. But if you listen to Norman Bates, and watch the scense with his mother, it's clear that it was a sick love between mother and son. So the interpretion was also in the first part
@jpssteveshanahan and if you didn't watch the series called Bates Motel, and you are intrested in deeper going of Norman, in his youth, then you will love it.
Vic Morrow did some great films. From what I recall, on Twilight Zone, they were using some Vietnamese kids out of legal hours on a dangerous set and John Landis was pushing the helicopter pilot to bring the chopper lower. The guy was an irresponsible shit house. Blackbelt was ok. It was like a low budget, martial arts version of The Bodyguard.

I think I remember I saw that movie and I remember that scene specifically and as a kid I was a little grossed out by it but I also understood from both movies TV and the fact that I always went to church and I already was having an understanding about human nature that what that lady was doing in the movie does happen in real life so I chopped it off as something that they put in there because it happens in real life so they wanted to make the movie more realistic so when I saw that I didn't think anything bad about Don the Dragon or the actors just simply the character that was doing the molestation and the character that much later use that as an excuse to kill other than that I always enjoyed martial art movies I was old enough or mature enough to understand what I was seeing but I was still too young to want to be bitter enough to put the blame on the actor or actors for putting that in the movie if that makes sense

Excellent point.
I love Don the dragon Wilson movies ❤️ Bloodfists, Ring of fire,Inferno, Night hunter etc...
I’m in the camp that likes this movie. 🤷
Title was misleading. The thumbnail said don't watch this, but the video say, dont watch this movie, big difference. Haha
Man of some of the reviews of blackbelt on imdb are hilarious.
"watched this film for 45 minutes and counted 9 mullets. That's a mullet every 5 minutes. Seriously though, this film is living proof that formula works"
"Look Don The Dragon Wilson may be a great legitimate fighter but he is terrible on screen in this movie. The movements are slow and the choreography boring and ponderous. he also makes Chuck Norris look like Laurence Olivier in that he has ZERO acting ability and almost no charisma"
These are two topless scenes in The Big Boss and a breif nipple shot in Enter the Dragon.
Blackbelt is a fun martial arts action film.
Indeed, Don is a very good storyteller and very generous in anecdotes.
My favorites movies from him are Bloodfist 2, the concept of kumite goes to a higher level, and
Black Belt, relesead in France as...:"Kickboxer cop".
I had especially liked that movie for various reasons such as Matthias Hues, who is amazing to the screen, the fights and, especially,
the touch mature of that story...
It's specially that Don - I absolutely respect his opinion - dislike.
Maybe, I am not sure but it's possible, because I am european and that element of
that story pleased to me. The caracter seemed to me more realistic, plausible.
So, I reminded more this story than others...
However, Don is really fair to speak about survey.
I had the impression, somewhere, Don was playing the same kind of white knight from
movies to movies, a little bit such as Chuck Norris or Jackie Chan...
Many thanks to you, Don, and Viking Samourai for this agora.
Don's best movie, in my opinion, is Ring of Fire, even though he's more of a co-star in that one. If you haven't seen that one and can track it down, you should.
VK i hope you were able to ask my wilson about new york ninja. I cant wait for that to release.
Hopefully, the film that shouldn’t be named is on Tubi
It's on there.
It is, and you can find it on UA-cam
I agree with Don's take on
the weird/'off' scene in 'Black-Belt'
but my guess is that the scene
could have been largely lost to
the younger audience, as they
generally, would not have
fully understood what
the misguided director was going for.
The older audience would have
understood though, and of course
it was
a scene that really wasn't needed at all.
I also agree that 'explicit' scenes in
Martial Arts movies are just not needed.
Not to be a stickler, but Bruce Lee's movies had plenty of nudity.
True.
Bruce Lee himself didn't do any sex scenes.
Oddly enough he was boinking his female co-stars behind the scenes like nobody's business!
I'd say that Blackbelt was one of his better films. Matthias Hues was, I think, the best and most intimidating villain. He really dominated the dragon in the first half of that final fight.
I saw Black Belt and I liked it.
@jpssteveshanahan yes it was. If you watch all Movies from psycho 1 - 4 it is very clean, that he had a realtionship with his mother
@jpssteveshanahan thank you, wish you a nice day 🤗
@jpssteveshanahan and if you didn't watch the series called Bates Motel, and you are intrested in deeper going of Norman, in his youth, then you will love it.
@jpssteveshanahan thx dude. You are welcome 🤗
So is Don against sex and nudity scenes in movies? Didn't he do sex scenes in movies and have naked girls? Does he now regret doing those?
Vic Morrow did some great films.
From what I recall, on Twilight Zone, they were using some Vietnamese kids out of legal hours on a dangerous set and John Landis was pushing the helicopter pilot to bring the chopper lower. The guy was an irresponsible shit house.
Blackbelt was ok. It was like a low budget, martial arts version of The Bodyguard.
C'mon Don, Blackbelt, for me at least, it's probably one of your best!
I think Black Belt is one of his best movies.
Do more movies with an action star Mr. Don
I would be ashamed if I were Don to that scene sounds really messed up
Hey VS is a new BloodSport movie in the making? I just heard that it was coming out.
Where'd u hear that?
@@VikingSamurai oh it was from a comment on worlds strongest man live chat I was watching. Big Loz read a comment on the live chat stream that said a new BloodSport movie was coming out… lol I immediately commented on your video to ask you haha… I got a little excited there
@Sixgorillionshekelswindler Shlomo yeah probably that one that’s been out for a year or so
Bruce Lee films DID have nudity in them, what's the matter with this guy?
I'm sorry but I've got to say , the tiger made me laugh. 🏊🐯
So rad dude
Oooooh I remember this movie. Yeah, the German guy was a serial killer and Don was on the case.
Ring of Fire and Blood Fist 1 and 2 my Favorite Don the Dragon Wilson movies
Ring of fire is my fav…
Awe man really? I liked Blackbelt. It’s funny the star of a movie I liked is ashamed of it. Oh well. Big fan Don. My favorites are blackbelt, blood fist 3&4, futurekick. Grew up on you Don
