@DIGITAL Superhot sold well when it wasn't in VR. Echo Arena *works* because it's a VR sport, it's not "a gimmick". Beat Saber can only be done in VR, and you cannot call that a gimmick. Zenith is an MMORPG in VR, just like the many others that came before it on PC. Hibow could easily work as a non-VR game, but it's just made better by VR. VR is in no way a gimmick for any of the popular games, it's always either a different way to experience a familiar genre, or a new thing entirely that couldn't exist without VR.
Spectacle is so good when its actually implemented into games well, I.e. Titanfalls 2's "affect and cause" mission, every encounter in New Mumbasa in Halo 2, King Minos in Ultrakill, or seeing a fleet warp in from the surface of a planet in No Mans Sky, its so rare to see it done right, but when it is, its one of the best parts of any game

As someone who played Doom when it came out, and played many of the classic FPS of the 90s and early 00s, what I like about FPS games is that other than VR, it's the most immersive gaming experience. You're experiencing everything through the character's eyes and something I enjoy doing since those days is that feeling of, yeah, there's a challenge, but you're exploring a world too. You're going through a map and seeing things that you're never going to see in real life (for the classic shooter that's more sci-fi). In my case, it was fascinating seeing the evolution and going from Doom that didn't have so many interactive elements to something like Half-Life that had many interactive elements and now I got to explore different rooms in a facility! Yes, I might find an alien or a monster that wants to kill me, but that's just what makes it a game. I like first-person games in general, even if they're just puzzles, and I think that's the reason why, it literally feels like opening the window to a different world.
You might want to check out Stalker Call of Pripyat. The first hour is weird, because it does NOT hold your hand, but that game has such a thick atmosphere.

Titanfall 2 was the first real fast fps game i ever played, and it was, and still is my favourite game of all time, a game like no other, action packed, gut wrenching scenes, fast gameplay, at the time I had never played anything like it and I've been waiting for Titanfall 3 for so long now
7:32 Yeah, I'm starting to think Activision is making the old CoD games extremely pricey for what they're worth because they want people to actually buy their new games instead of sticking with the old games.
As a huuuuuge titanfall fan that feeling when you manage to find some sort of route that lets you go at Mach 1 speeds through an opening area (honestly one of my favourites is some areas inside of Kanes complex) is just priceless. I mostly stick to the multiplayer now due to the adrenaline rush I get from somehow using my kraber as a shotgun and hitting my shot while we’re both going blisteringly fast in opposite directions being so great. I don’t ever play the multiplayer of games to see how many kills I can rack up, I play to see how much fun and excitement I can sap out of a single kill. The first time I played titanfall 2 was at a friends house, I think about 2 weeks after it launched. I fell in love with it quickly after wallrunning for the first time, and it kept getting better the more I learnt the way movement worked, and how it fell into my playstyle. I’m no longer big on fps games personally, I only ever really play titanfall 2 and the odd match of bf4 with friends, and I was never big on cod, but there’s some unforgettable memories that I’ve had from playing fps games that just aren’t able to be had in any other game.

You're literally fighting as or next to very cool people doing cool stuff,. FPS shooters are the literal embodiment of escapism and im glad I played them.
The whole movement thing really just made me love a silly little game about gorillas jumping around a forest in vr. Seriously you should play gorilla tag whenever you get a headset, the gameplay is extremely fun (jumping on branches and looking like a badass doing flips) the movement is the whole game, so fair enough that its HECKING AMAZING. theres not really a storyline but the maps are small enough you can learn them and learn to move quickly as well as big enuogh that you dont get bored after 30 hours, ive put a few hundred hours into it and am now getting into the competitive side of things, on an intermediate team and god damnn it just keeps getting better the better you get at it.

One of the best Far Cry games is one most people don't know about, its Instincts/Predator, console versions of the original game that took a completely different direction, you get beast powers, one of which is letting you move super fast and make incredible long jumps. It's a janky game for sure but it's still fun for those speedy moments or zipping between bad guys and feral punching them off a cliff.

I stopped playing somewhere around Shadowkeep, that was my last big purchase, and even though I liked some of the stuff they were doing with the story, I just found myself disinterested. I poured hundreds of hours into D1, as well as D2. forsaken is some of the best destiny there ever was, but by shadowkeep it just felt hollow. I remember the drought during D1, the grinding. Once I got older, I no longer had the time to grind like I did back then. I hope it's going well enough for then, I just wish it had been a bit less grindy to experience big story moments

When you started listing out Doom,Dusk, and Titanfall 2, I was confused and was like WTF IS ULTRAKILL, caught be by surprise. ACT II TOMMORROW BABBBBBYYYYYY
I think a part of the reason why fps is a huge part of gaming is because you tend want what you couldn't have when you were younger and it's human nature to want to break the rules a bit.
"movement and speed" I like the opposite of this. Slowpaced trenchwar battles which might even feel like stalemates for others. Had a lot of such battles in "Build N Shoot" (literally trenchwar, oldschool), some in Natural Selection (where you have to fight for each room of the spacestation, and sometimes if both teams are well anchored you literally fight for each meter), and in TF2 Cart pushing (but this one is artificially slowed down by the speed of the cart).
My preference is purely down to gameplay. I kept trying to figure this out and the conclusion I've come to is that FPS games are simple. I want simplicity for 3 reasons: - I want to engage with the core mechanics of the game as much as possible, rather than staring at a skill tree, grinding for resources, paying attention to a story that's probably mediocre or trying to figure out which ability would synergize best with my overall build. - I'm pretty stupid. I can deal with simpler puzzle games like Portal or The Talos Principle, but anything made by zachtronics, Baba is You, grand strategy games, RTS's, Factorio... these just scare me and I don't do well when I try to get into one of them. - Core FPS mechanics are simple, so these games generally don't have many mechanics that you can miss. I didn't figure out that I was doing the dodge offset wrong in Bayonetta, I didn't get around to unlocking the skills people say make witcher 3's combat fun, it took me a long time to figure out why Shredders (snowboarding game) was dropping my inputs at times, and so on. In FPS games things are generally pretty obvious and if not, I have 15 years of experience to help me.
TF2 doesn't have the best movement options, but it's definitely one of my favorites

I think a part of the reason why fps is a huge part of gaming is because you tend want what you couldn't have when you were younger and it's human nature to want to break the rules a bit.
Man, i wish arena shooters could make a comeback.
If you didn’t see it last time, a good game is severed steel. I’m not too sure on story and world building but the movement is fun
"movement and speed"
I like the opposite of this.
Good lord I remember how brutal Natural Selection was with good players on both teams (I was not one of them). Insanely memorable experience.
You like old battlefield
Ultrakill makes my arm hurt :(
Ultrakill is great in every theme talked about
And he said so lmao
That was a cool video thank you!

Me and the boys waiting for Stryxo to mention ultrakill
Because they're fuckin' fun.
Good enough for me.
My preference is purely down to gameplay.
I kept trying to figure this out and the conclusion I've come to is that FPS games are simple.
I want simplicity for 3 reasons:
- I want to engage with the core mechanics of the game as much as possible, rather than staring at a skill tree, grinding for resources, paying attention to a story that's probably mediocre or trying to figure out which ability would synergize best with my overall build.
