    I was re-watching this as we are a week away from the 12th of Dec. I just noticed something pretty cool. As you guys were talking about the Michigan Soldiers crossing first in the pontoon's a Jeep drove by and it's Wheel cover was a U of Michigan logo.

    This world never fails to amaze me. Just as the 7th Michigan took the nearshore of the river, a Jeep with a Michigan tire cover drives by at 19:22

    My Uncle, Oscar Ewing Stuart, of Co K of the 18th MS was in town with Barksdale. I have a letter he wrote home describing his experience. He was killed behind the wall on Marye's Heights during the battle of Chancellorsville and is buried in the Confederate Cemetery in Fredericksburg.

    My Great-great Grandfather enlisted with the Seventeenth Iowa Infantry Volunteers when he was forty years old. His name was William Toney. Their first action was at Iuka Mississippi. It would be great if you could do a segment on the battle of Iuka. I makes me tear-up when I think of what he went through. I saw an animation on U-tube of the battle of Darwin and the Timor convoy in WW2. My dad and his artillery battery (148th Idaho Field Artillery) were involved in that. His name was Floyd Tacklind and he received the Silver Star from General MacArthur for his action at Darwin. The animation was so detailed that I couldn't sleep for two days worrying about my dad even thought it happen almost eighty years ago and he survived the war.

    Battlefields should request all confederate statues to go to battlefields throughout the South and admission paid for the up keep because you know people complain that their tax money is taking care of statues. History should not be destroyed but saved for future generations.

    Good information and well done. Thanks. The exception - as usual Adelman drives me nuts - flailing, jumping, spazzing!! If trying to arouse excitement - it doesn't work. Better to keep the
    camera off him and just hear his voice.

    I was living in Stafford VA when you guys filmed this. I wish I'd known, so I coukd have come down to watch. I used to go to Fredericksburg all the time. I would sit at the Hyperion Espresso coffee shop on Princess Anne Street and marvel at the battle history around me.

    Thank you for this...love what you all are doing. I love this town and have visited many, many times over many, many years...
    Question: Is there any chance the most obtrusive battlefield marker, there at the Upper Crossing site may be replaced by the "modern" style of tablet? Lord knows, that will certainly improve the scene of Water Street and the Hancock house when viewed from the riverfront...

    Any idea how heavy were these pontoon bridges sections and how many men it took to move then during construction? Was the bridge built in sections of pontoons or put together in individual parts at the river? Thanks.

    Iv heard multiple times that this was 2nd Waterloo. Would that be accurate? I know their was approximate 13,000 union deaths vs 4,500 confederate deaths. Which is crazy considering the difference in number between the armies.

    • @tberkoff
      @tberkoff 6 років тому

      Brandon Tube I don't see any similarities between the battles. Waterloo ended France's grip on on power in Europe. The Union army would fight another day. Also, those numbers you cited are total casualties not deaths.

    you never really hear about the bombardment at fredricksburg. even with advances in tech. by ww1, most bombardment was still more psychological than effective at killing enemy soldiers in defensive positions. by this time, it could destroy trenches but the machine gun was farm more effective. the civil war was 50+ years before that.

    • @NoAlarmsNoSupriseSs

      Uhu and its sad we just potentially voted in a war monger who bombed the middle east over 26,000 times during the previous administration. I would not be surprised if we aren't in some sort of new conflict abroad within the next few years. Regardless of what political party you affiliate and align with, the current president kept us out of new conflicts and was striking peace deals abroad. Shame. Take care.

    Those that govern the US Parks need to be replaced. I see them getting rid of the old markers as a preparation of disillusionment of those lands. For sale to to the politicians as to make way for expansion.
