I lived in Fredericksburg from '93 to '97 and visited all the battlefields in the area. My house was across the river to the north just a block away from where the Union launched hot air observation balloons. My property was site of a NY Engineer unit camp.

I was born if Fredericksburg in 1958 and lived on a farm there we found all kinds of war relics there the rapp. River bordered our farm i can still remember the cannon dug outs on our side facing the yankee lines even found a cannonball there, moved here to N.C with my family in 1970, my school bus would go through Marie s heights and down sunken road 5 days a week i still remember the rock wall, they closed the rd there the last time i visited about 7 years ago. Why i have no idea. But we used to ride down it,not thinking how many men died there.....

Just walked the whole trail. Thank you so much for preserving pretty much the ONLY view left in Fredricksburg of the complete union approach to the Confederate line. NOWHERE else in town can you understand so well what a daunting and impossible task awaited them.

I just recently visited this part of the battlefield. Overlooked but crucial part of the battle that day. My 3rd GGF was in the 37th N.C. and would have been positioned along Stonewall Jackson’s line. Although I don’t have exact proof of cause of death he died at Camp Gregg when the Army of Northern Virginia went into camp after the battle. My guess is he died from wounds he received that day as I know the 37th was involved in some of the heaviest fighting that day while helping to plug the gap in the Confederate line.

It's not overlooked lol.... it's the main Union attack of the day (unbeknownst to Franklin)

Great job again by all of you. I was curious does ABT allow the property to be farmed so that it stays close to it's original battlefield condition?.

Is the swampy area that Meade penetrated on the river side of the railroad tracks where the boggy area currently is?

Con Federate Capt Pelham there is a painting of him at Fredericksburg, this is the infamous two cannons to be dispatched, following a federal bombardment.

Meade's attack is going well; however, because of Pelham's move diverting, Doubleday is diverted, and Meade, the division is starting to lose the toehold! Reynolds had blundered the battle, 3rd Corps had trouble, and Meade exploded in Fury! send your men to the aid of mine, Birney, then drops the ball? Early on the Confederate side, faced the prospect of marching toward the battle or getting arrested? by Gen Thomas Jackson, Jimmy Stuarts great grandfather was in the Union Pa Division
