I'll have to check my papers to be certain, but I believe the Tanuki song was written by the film's composer, Michuo Mamiya. He also wrote "The Indian Tiger Hunt," which Gauche uses against the cat. Isao Takahata and Mamiya have also worked together on Horus, Prince of the Sun (1968); Grave of the Fireflies (1988); and Omohide Poro Poro (1991). I hope that helps.
