I think survival horror is a very misunderstood genre because it will never appeal to everybody. This game looks like a very solid survival horror game but if you're going to compare it to higher budget games like Resident Evil or Alan Wake 2, then you'll probably end up disappointed. If the average player that likes Call of Duty and other mainstream triple A games plays this then they might not like it, but the average survival horror fan like me can probably appreciate it more. I do notice from gameplay that the combat looks very clunky but sometimes clunky combat compliments the overall uneasiness that comes with the horror genre, like Silent Hill for example. I'll still pick this game up despite the negative reviews. The mixed reviews that this game is getting really shows that it most likely appeals to certain people and based on what I've seen, it looks very appealing to me because I'm into the very atmospheric horror type games. Not every game has to have a $100 million+ budget to be considered an 8/10 or above. I just hope that if I do end up liking it that the negative reviews won't stop them from making a sequal.
They know we are the target audience to revive the franchise. 5 million is a HUGE success any developer would trade a kidney for. Sequels are made with far less success. We have Dead Space, Calsito, Resident Evil, not much else in AAA & AA horror. Alone in the Dark & Silent Hill 2 I think will do well enough to annoy the casuals with sequels.
Yea. I think even if this specific game doesn’t resonate with many people , I am hoping it starts a sort of chain reaction where more AA games start getting some more attention. I am so discouraged with these massive AAA always online/pay to win/live service multiplayer cash grabs. I do however feel slightly hopeful when games like skull and bones, suicide squad, modern warfare 3 get slammed by both critic’s and players alike.
@@holden4620 the AA devs been cookin & the drought is almost over. This happens every console generation in the first half of life span. Wait til the year is over & prepare to start spending a lot of cash
I'm optimistic this newest Alone in the Dark game will do well despite some harsh and mixed reviews. A lot of gamers are always on the lookout for a horror game alternative to Resident Evil, and this latest Alone in the Dark will deliver on that appetite. It's the hottest new horror game with decent budget as of now and will be so for the next few months until Silent Hill 2 Remake gets an official release date sometime between September and December 2024. It's a safe bet it will sell 1-2 million (from it's March release) for the whole duration of 2024, thanks to that Resident Evil absence.
This is so very true. I'm playing the game now. There is not a dull moment in this game. I'm playing as a female character great graphics good gameplay very easy to play lol I just got done watching game spot. They gave it a four out of 10 I guarantee you, if they kept the same gameplay and just change the title to like last of us three I guarantee you they will give it a 10 out of 10... some people didn't last us too. I enjoyed survive horror games. The Calisto
protocol was my favorite.
Nothing wrong with just plain good.
Amen 🙏 to that brother
Totally/agree...
Simpler\the\better.
So here's the thing about horrors - nowadays this genre is really really niche and the more horror games are done, the less trust gamers have to it due to overflooded market with all these 30-bucks B-horror projects that desperately try to be something else. Think of Oxide room, Fobia, Madison. They are not bad games per se, but they all are FLAT.
Since there's so much crap and every single trick is used and reused and plagiarized, if you think about it, it is not that easy to create something absolutely unique in its core and something that will relate to the target audience at the same time. This is a damn hard task.
All I'm saying is that for us, die hard life long horror fans, the fact alone that Alone in the dark made it to new generation with kinda old + new take, combining something from the roots and learning something from juggernauts like modern silent hill and resident evil games - is a miracle on its own. I was thirsty for a good old name in my collection for so long. Silent Hill has not made it yet, so this is exactly what I needed and honestly, it looks stunning in every single aspect I need from the horror game.
Looks like The Sinking city without the flood
theres no way lol thats exaactly what i was thinking when i seen the graphics.
good observation man. I really liked sinking city. i think frogware is making a part 2.
@@Daniel_D-bo I also liked The Sinking Ciry it was a really good game imo, and this Alone of the Dark looks really good as well and can't wait to play it.
@@ghstbstr I can't play it either
Can't play one specific game doesn't mean another game is just as bad before you play it.
Thanks for the mostly positive feedback. I'm actually super stoked about playing alone in the dark. I am to into mystery survival horror games and the environment has me intrigued. I like the fact notes are read outloud and that there is mystery and puzzles to solve. I remember playing a new nightmare back in ps1 Era and thought man this looks so good, so I don't take anything for granted. Back in my day of beginning to game we weren't spoiled with every game looking good just very much harder to play. It's really a great time to be a gamer because we get to experience old classics and new ones!

$20 game max. Tormented Souls was $40 when it came out and it was more polished and better game overall than this new ALONE IN THE DARK.
We can expect it as a PS+ Essential freebie in about a year from now.
And that's exactly how I'm gonna play it
What’s up gaybers
Me, now.
Anyone think pc principle from South Park looks like Dreamcast guy if you squint enough

This game proves that we need middle of the road games. I hate that the games industry has become nothing but huge budget AAA games that take a decade to come out, and then small indie games that have a lot of charm but there’s just so many that you can’t keep track. The AA budget 7/10 game needs to continue. Every industry needs a middle class, something to enjoy between the huge releases that everyone is waiting for. These used to be half the games you would rent for a weekend at Blockbuster (The Suffering, The Thing, Dead To Rights etc.) games that weren’t going to win game of the year but they were a good time for a short time. They wouldn’t take over your life by being a 120 hour open world RPG. For some reason in the mid to late 2000s gamers decided 7/10 was a bad score and not worth playing, and these types of games fell by the wayside.
I’ll wait for a sale, 60 is too high for a 6 hr AA game.
I get that, but I'm choosing to support it. AAA has mostly become stagnant, and I want a thriving AA space, where greater risks can be taken, and creativity can hopefully flourish.
i got it for 26 quid on steam
I went with a 39.00 horror game instead of this one and Banishers. I was legit scared for two days while playing it, less than 4 hour game if you know what youre doing. Definitely agree that 60 is too high for a 6 AA hour game.
@@LuisMedrano-j9qwell what’s the game bro don’t gatekeep
You lost me at "I don't watch movies, I just lift weights and play video games" 🤣 as if you don't know who these voice actors are...
After playing for 4 hours last night, this game is solid. Its not going to appeal to everyone but if you like old school adventure games and early survival horror, youll probably love this game. The atmoshere is so damn good and the combat is really fun. Nothing mind blowing but the movement is responsive, dodge feels great, melee is good if you stick and move, gunplay is solid too. Cant wait to play more.
🤣🤣🤣 DUDE you don't lift weights lol I believe the video game part
Where my cajun gamers at 👋
This week. I’ve bought. Stalker trilogy on ps5. Chasing static and a fears to fathom game on the steamdeck. Frank millers Hard boiled comic. And finally alone in the dark on ps5. I never get the time for these things. But just keep buying them.
I feel your pain, sometimes I think I buy for the buzz of waiting for something then it gets here, load it up then play something else or read something else, bought 8 games this month, 3 comic omnibus editions and there is something missing in me, telling you this is a growing problem and almost like an addiction mate
Jeez this game looks REALLY bad. Bashing stupid looking monsters with hammers, and that vomit inducing color palate! Cannot believe you actually PAID to play this. Miss the older versions...
Fuck yeah been waiting for this review. Cant wait to play it tomorrow!!!
Guys if you like 60 metacritic scores and mediocre games😢😂
Same getting this tomorrow after work 😎👌 I played the originals on ps1 and have played the short demo a couple times over the months. Love this time era as well. Games don't have to be perfect to be good or fun.
@@aloyofnora3224what a sheep. Dude has never played the game, nor has he talked to anyone who’s played it yet. But of course he will base his opinions on metacritc reviews and at the same time will laugh at people who review bomb games he loves. What a hypocrite.
Me too, am hoping for the best. Love survival horror.
@@aloyofnora3224 I remember when death stranding was something like 64. Still had a blast playing it. For some odd reason scores eventually got higher with it too.
1:31 "MAGIC" lol
Meh....$60..... I'll wait for some discount because Dragon Dogma 2 is coming out anyway!
amazing fantastic job with the alone in the dark game review
From what I’ve seen so far it looks about what we’ve been expecting. I don’t know what people expected. They’ve had a demo out for it for like 6 months. A different type of horror experience. Which is kind of always welcome.
That demo didn't even have gameplay. You just walk around for a few minutes.
I was very dissapointed to hear that the perfomances of the main characters seem to be very bland, it was one of the main selling points, it was the main focus on most of the pretty extended advertisement campaign.
Despite the overall bad reviews I think it still worth the time for any real fan of survival horror, specially if we find it on sale. Al least for me the best survival horror experiences in recent years were the indie titles, in fact I had more enjoyment playin Tormented Souls than playing Resident Evil 8.
I'll wait a bit before buying Alone in the Dark, but I'm quite interested yo play it.
Tormented souls...STOP IT
Finally we're seeing people not being so binary with good and bad.
Not every game needs to be a magnum opus and we need to stop expecting everything to be a masterpiece.
How is this $60! This look like some indie tier 🗑️ and that’s to say there are indie games that look better than this like Daymare 1998 and that game is trash but at least it made itself cheaper.
Cool don't like it don't buy it. The worse it sells the faster it goes on sale. I'm super hyped about this game.
Nah, Daymare 1998 was full price on PS4 and definitely didn't/doesn't look better than this. Daymare 1994 though, that game is pretty damn amazing for a sequel(prequel).
Awesome review mate
Let em hate, I'll get it half price in no time. I was skeptical but as a big fan of horror myself, after watching 15 minute YT video of the beginning of the ga,e I'm more then ready.
Pity... I had high hopes for that one.
i guess people forgot that AitD is the reason they have RE and silent hill. Too bad.
@@eastern2687 I've never seen someone read into a comment more than you lol He said he "had high hopes for this game," not that he "didn't know that AitD is the reason we have RE and SH."
@@wrenboy2726 you are not the sharpest pencil in the box are ya? I was saying that people should pay respect to the titles that started it all and value it for what it is
@@eastern2687 Except you didn’t say that lol
as a fan of horror, i'm obligated to pick this one up, regardless of review scores
Me too looks very interesting
dude, it is literally AAA horror title. I mean look at all that B-horrors for 30 bucks like Apsulov, Fobia, Oxide room, Madison and so on. Market is overflooded with generic games like that. When the PROTO-HORROR title comes in, you gotta pay respect. This game is the reason RE and Silent hill were made to happen.
Appreciate the review. Yes , it definitely feels like they are going for an old school horror survival vibe and I’m totally down with that. Once it comes down a little, I’m in.
Thanks Dreamcast
I enjoy this more than its AAA modern counterparts. It has heart, style, and authenticity that no amount of budget can buy.
Aitd games were never great anyway. But still fun to play.
Would like to see a remake of The Suffering. Not great games either but done right could be good.
Does look kind of charming in a way.
This is my kind of game
I really commend you on how you read your bullet point notes while you make your eyes look like you are looking all over the place..
Looks like a Resident Evil ripoff.
Not fantastic, but potential there. I hope they try the new nightmare, instant buy no matter what
I actually enjoyed it. This is the first horror game I played before clock tower. So I have a bias. I enjoyed it very much. The downside is that there are a lot of bugs that make you stuck on some area, especially during combat. When a monster attacks you and you get a damage, if you are on an area where there 2 or 3 rocks or box during the attack, you will get stuck.
Dreamcast guy giving this game a solid assist is not something i expected 😅. I got the deluxe pre ordered on PS5. Looking forward to playing. Expectations are in check and fingers crossed for no bugs/glitches.
I didn't expect this game to be the greatest thing ever. Being just good, is enough. Especially when the game is only 6-ish hours long. It will be a nice change of pace from the massive 70+ hour time sinks.
Don’t play horror games outside of Resdent Evil. But I watch your videos to end, to support your content. Looking forward to your Dragon Dogma review. Was thrilled to hear your dad is cancer free. 😊 You are my favorite game review UA-camr, thank you for videos.
This is a good game. A solid 7/10 and the best Alone in the Dark since the very first game over 30 years ago. I like Thew New Nightmare and replayed in last year, but with no lip sync (on the Dreamcast at least) and other issues I don't think it's as good as this. Hoping for another game in the franchise!
This game is Not Woke at all, and for that, i will consider it game of the year. It is very puzzly which is something rare now these days. The combat is questionable, but think about how much time you spend wandering around without seeing a single enemy. I like it like that. Great game overall worth a playthru all day
I got it and I actually like it idk some people don’t like it but it’s very interesting game fun I’m enjoying it
its a little sad this game crashed w DRAGONS DOGMA 2 , two underdog games that should have been released at DIFFERENT times of the year w atleast 2 months apart to get more attention each...😢😢😞😞😔😔
I had to cancel sadly. This game will probably go down in price, and right now it’s hard to find anywhere. We unfortunately live in a day of age where bigger is better, and PS3 graphics are worse than PS2 graphics.🤯 It’s insane🤪
Show up on Spawncast more. Youre a key part of the entire cast being together.
Gman liked it. Good enough for me
I probably get Dragons Dogma 2 instead?
I'm hyped for dd2
30fps,no🤮
Cry harder @@aloyofnora3224
I went with that one too lol but I’m kinda a seasonal gamer.. I’m hoping to play more stuff like this round Halloween.. Although I’m still kinda cheating cause I finally just picked up the ps3 Silent Hill remaster due to all the remake hype lately..
Anyways Alone in the Dark is probably a good game because I really liked the demo..
They are not even the same type of game? But dd2 looks good if you like that style of game(or if you played the first one)
people seem to be reviewing it like an action shooter like re4, rather than as a survival horror game. To me games like resident evil 4 are super lazy....they always tell you where to go, if your having treouble it gets easier, if you need an item the odds of getting it get higher......stuff like that drives me insane...and then on top of that throw 1000s of enemys at the player....iv heard people criticize the enemy variety in this, but i mean most resident evils have like 4 enemies and some bosses
Let’s be honest Alone in the Dark has always just been average at best. So it’s not surprising this new one isn’t amazing.
The two actors aren't anywhere near good enough nor popular enough to warrant what was likely a huge chunk of the game's budget going to them. The developers should've gotten nobodies and used the extra cash to refine the game.
Alone in the dark is GOOD but not GREAT! Well that’s fine with me. A good game is a good game.
I’ve heard several UA-camrs complaining about the confusing narrative of this game, and that is something I disagree with. Granted, I don’t come from an extensive “horror video game” background; I come from a Call of Cthulhu TTRPG and H.P. Lovecraft background. The lore hints in the written materials draw from common lore about classic entities in the Mythos, to the point where I passed through a thoroughfare in the manor and correctly identified halfway through the playthrough “that is a [spoiler].” Getting to the climax and being proven right felt fulfilling. I’ve only gone through half of Emily’s playthrough, but I appreciate the different relationship she has with the cast. Though I do admit her central role seems a little off-putting given how Carnby and Grey have treated her. They come across as more condescending, which is a stark difference to the initiative-driven Emily in the Carnby storyline. That is the only narrative downside I have with it; it is faithful to the original material, both the OG Alone in the Dark (which it references wonderfully through Jeremy who is fully aware of that game’s plot and his role in it), and Call of Cthulhu.
You lost me at "i don't watch movies i just lift weights and play video games" 😅 as if you dont know who these voice sctors are...
Nah definitely a pass for me. Rise of the Ronin and Dragon’s Dogma 2 for me!
It's not my cup of tea but I remember tyring to play an alone in the dark game on PS1 and Goddamn that was scary 😂
Don't start looking like carrot top,..lifting all does weights.
Is this another brutally Dishonest Review
game gives redent evil 0 wibe game not have redent evil biudet but if you like like clasic horor games like silent hill you need try game
This movie is a guilty pleasure of mine, loved it ever since it's release 😂😂
hi DreamcastGuy
Lift weights and play video games ……💪🏽
Picked this up on my way home from work and cannot wait to dive in, seems like it’s reviewing about as well as The Sinking City or The Chant and I legit love those games, bring it on Derceto Manor! 😈
I tried to do that but it was sold out at walmart and target(gamestop used to be near by but moved away)so I had to order from best buy and am getting it tomorrow 😎👌.
@@joshuaschmidinger3993 I preordered but had to order from the second furthest store from me that was still in my town, all the stores closer to me were sold out 😬 honestly it’s the easiest to stop at on my way home though so it kinda worked out
Remember: IGN gave Deathloop a 10/10. I don't really trust reviews... Nothing against your reviews, my brother. I like to see all the opinions and form my own. I want to play Alone in the Dark, and I think I'm going to like it, but right now, I've already spent my money on the Dragon's Dogma 2 game. So... I'll have to wait for a discount or for it to come on the PSPlus service.
A lot of online publications are hating on this game. But I think there’s a deeper agenda play 4 sure.. still gonna buy it
Alright imma head out
This game was made to mirror the horror style of the 90’s in gaming; messy design and all. Go in with that in mind and you’ll love it!
This game reminds me of Evil Within 1 but has less going on.
Man why they didnt just straight up remake this game like how Capcom did a remake to RE1.
I think alone in the dark would have worked better as modern fixed camera angles instead.
No games are perfect all games have some type of problem and issues people are always crying about something shut up people had problems with final fantasy rebirth when that came out people are crying about rise of the ronin Graphics and people are crying about Dragon's dogma 2 Performance issues people was crying about Spiderman 2 and many other games don't like it don't buy it and go play the original game boy 😅😅
This week is crazy for releases and I feel like this game is gonna get overshadowed by stuff like Rise of the Ronin and Dragon’s Dogma II. Hell, maybe even Princess Peach Showtime
This game looks epic. I'll buy it on sale when the game has been patched and updated. From what I can tell, it has a solid story, good voice acting, and animations, but also, I think the games strengths make up for areas where it suffers like combat. I think the combat can be improved with a patch, and the enemy Ai. As a core gameplay experience, I think this game looks awesome, and fun. I knew when seeing the trailer for this, that it'd be a better game than Alan Wake 2.
Thats how some Americans talk in cerain states, especially 100 years ago, theres nothing wring with the speech in the game, its not cheesy, its accurate. As far as bad voice acting, the male protagonist is the cop on Stranger Things.
I think this game is going to be very devisive. But I believe most survival horror game enthusiasts are going to enjoy it. I just hope it fairs well on sales. This franchise deserves to be on the spotlight, and this game seems to have been done with a lot of care.
I said not bad about most of the first games. I’m tired of mediocre or downright awful games from alone in the dark. Stay in the darn dark and never come out
It’s okay / but i rather really play Alone in the Dark inferno for PS3 / man they really need to remake that game
Wait, it takes place in Louisiana? Visions of Shadow Man? Are we connecting the dots here???
It is not great because it is not a Playstation exclusive PlaystationGuy
Funny lol
You know when I first came across this channel, I thought he hated playstation...kinda funny
I’m literally trying to play this on my ps5 and my sound for this game and this game only does not work
Game is horrible. What the hell are you smoking? 😂
Without the original AitD, there would be no RE -- and thus, no DMC.
Sadly like you mentioned if the price goes down to $40 then I'll get the game but what I've seen so far it's hardly worth $60. The graphics don't look bad but honestly this looks like they could have easily put it on the PS4 maybe even the PS3 but for whatever reason decided to milk it out until releasing it on the PS5. Honestly I feel The Evil Within 1&2 are better games from what I've seen so far heck Outlast 1&2 seem superior to this game.
I would play it just for nostalgia, cause I truly like horror games.
Damn, how is dreamcast guy a horror fan without any PSVR?
Trust me, wait for sale, it will drop the price in 3 month 1000%
Game is ultra garbage
You hated suicide squad but not this ? That’s crazy.
His review is lie. I highly doubt he even played it. He probably just saw gameplay on UA-cam and formed an opinion like that. He never mentioned a review code cause the game wasn’t even out when he made the video
some of the budget I assume is also spent on youtubers to hype the game
Glad to see an honest review after all the negative ones I've seen. As a big horror fan i bought it and definitely looks like my kind of game, pretty sure im going to enjoy it. Thanks Dreamcast Guy!
You get a revolver, and people disappear as you realize you're in a different realm, much like Silent Hill. Can't wait for a half price sale
Game is bad.
Great review! I felt exactly the same.
Uu
I don't see this game selling well or getting good reviews. Saying that, It'll be free on PS plus by the end of the year, I'll play it then. Thanks again for the quality review, DCG! Keep dreamin.

I could have told you it wasn’t great and saved you time.
Played the demo a while back and knew it wasn't going to do well. Maybe it's worth it at 10, pushing it at 15 bucks
Finally a positive review same as i thought
The problem is Alan wake 2 came out, so it set a bar that another game couldn’t capture since wake just came out.
Alan Wake 2 is probably a better game. I wouldn't know, I've never played it. That game never really resonated with me, though. This kinda does
Really all you do is walk around and stick pictures on a board oh and I can’t forget the race swap sweet baby stink woke nonsense the game is trash
I played AW2 for 8 hours and was just totally bored.
I don't think a lot of people who grew up with AITD care how it stacks up to AW2. I've never even considered it. Most people going into this game have their expectations in check because Pieces has never made a game like this and it's THQ Nordic, they're not exactly throwing money around for AAA budgets. If this game is solid, word of mouth/streamers will inform those who are on the fence.
Aw2 is trash
Alone in the dark came before resident evil so I wouldnt say it wanted to be different than the others. It was already its own thing.
Was until review think I'll leave off 🎮
I'll get this when it's on deep sale. Looks OK.
Ill get it when you can buy a steam key for cheap
Good is good enough for my tastes.
Even if it’s a bit janky It does look like a lot of fun.
Might be worth a purchase when it’s on a sale
