I have my reservation for my r1t. What do you think are the downsides are of it? With that lip of the fronk, is it a pain compared to how the Lightning’s whole fronk raises. In the video the guy said you’re a big guy, can you comfortably sit in the back seat with the driver seat set normal? Also how does this compare ICE trucks towing?
Hey Vinny! There are a few things I don't like about the R1T. I will be making a video to go over them. As far as the fronk is concerned, I don't have an issue with it. The Rivian can go through 39 inches of water, so the Rivian's fronk is designed to keep water out. On the other hand, the Lighting's fronk design may not be as good at keeping water out because water will push against the seal at a much lower level than the Rivian. When it comes to towing, electric trucks are better for local towing, but ICE trucks are much better for towing long distances because towing can cut an electric truck range by half.
@@thedukeofmiddleville thanks for answering all my questions. I’ll keep an eye out for that video about things you don’t like/improvements about it. Also how’s the back seat for someone your size?
@@vinnym5095 The back seat room is great. I can fit behind my seat with plenty of room. I'm about 6" but I have the leg length of someone 6'3". I have to say that the back seat is by far the best view. I would love to ride in the back seat.
Go to "Now you know" they own a Rivian too. One of the down sides is it runs on a 12 volt system. Also, the air compressor can't run any of the construction tools for any real construction. Completely useless for contractors. Just the Facts!

We have the exact same truck. We have a Ram 1500 with a 5.7 Hemi as well and I love it. Rides better than all trucks, but the Rivian rides much better. In conserve mode, can go 347 miles on a single charge. The Rivian is the best vehicle on the market by far. Has modified McLaren 720S air suspension. It rides so well that it’s crazy. It has a built in air compressor and crazy storage. Love this truck!

Duke, this is an excellent video! Thanks very much. If you want a high performance, first-rate off-road capable, feature-rich, premium truck, the R1T has got to be on your list. I want similar capabilities in a 7-passenger SUV, and of course, Rivian has me covered there with the R1S. I expect delivery of the S in about a year.

I doubt that anyone would follow me home. My home is not easily accessible, but if you can avoid gas stations you should be fine. I also go my windows tinted the first week I got it. People are curious about the Rivian, and have been very pleasant. Also, I spent many years as a military recruiter, so I am never not in the mood to engage the public, except at my home. That is a no-go zone😄
I agree with you 100% I currently own a Model Y Tesla, but trading it in for a Rivian. Yep, and I love my Model Y. LAstly, where did you get your reading glasses, thx!
The biggest issue will be access to service centers. You may not want a truck you cannot service if something breaks. However, you will get better range from Rivian in Australia's warmer weather.
@@thedukeofmiddleville for sure! Nice video, appreciate your enthusiasm towards your Rivian. I’m on the fence for the R1S with really the price holding me back only. I’m convinced it’s a great vehicle but feel it should be in the $70-$75k range, $90k+ is just too much for what you get in return.
After driving my R1T for a few months, I believe its worth a lot more than they are charging for it. Vehicles that it competes with are all around $100K such as the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Range Rover, and Tesla Model X. The quad motor Rivians should be at least $120K in my opinion.
Count your lucky stars you can get into one. Rivian most likely wont make RWD and deliver to Australia. By far its the best looking Electric truck (ute) on the market now. Enjoy
Hello Geoff, I feel very lucy. I got mine pretty fast compared to others, and that is probably because I live in Illinois were they make them. They are suppose to start making the two motor version this year, so lets hope they can ramp up production so they can start delivering them to Australia. Its an awesome truck you will love it! Thanks for commenting!
if you tow or do other truck stuff besides run to Home Depot, you would be better served by any old V8 truck. Even my 30 year old f250 7.5L thirsty truck is better. I get 400 miles of range towing. that would be 4 x the Rivian towing. A 7k load drops your range to 100 miles or less. My F-150 eco boost gets over 800 miles of range for a closer comparison and 500 to 600 miles towing a 7k load. you have 800 hp with 900tq. I admittedly would like to have that but its a wasted talent in the Rivian unless you are always racing between the lights. Both my trucks can tow 10-11k just fine while a Rivian couldn't get my camp trailer to the camp site and back without a charge and in the great expanse of the American west, there isn't a charging station. Even if there was I don't want to wait 45 minutes just to go another 90 miles. If I really want 800 or more HP, there is a solution for that. It's called an F350 and it blows the doors off the Rivian numbers and increases towing capacity 3X Range is still 4X at a lower or comparable purchase price. The cost of ownership is crazy. I paid under 10 K for my truck in excellent condition. that's a 70k (or more) savings. My truck gets 10mpg average so that 70k in savings would buy my gas at over 4 bucks a gallon for over 16 years @ 10k miles a year. In that time the value of my truck will have gone up and the Rivian will have gone down and will undoubtedly need a new battery in that time at the cost of 15k(another 3 years of gas). If you bought a Rivian because you think its "cool", I find that to be a perfectly acceptable answer. If you bought a Rivian to do truck work of any kind, you bought the wrong truck. Even your claim of it being an off-roader does not pass the sniff test. In fairness most stock trucks are not amazing off-roaders without important modifications but don't let your confidence in the Rivian get you stuck in the wilderness. you simply wont have enough juice to get the truck un-stuck and back home.
I agree with most of what you stated except for the Rivian not being an off roader. The Rivian is one of the best off roader trucks, and its super fun to drive. One can make the same argument about a Dodge Hellcat. The Rivian checks all my boxes, and I don't need another vehicle. If in the rare case I need to tow something a long distance I can just rent a truck. Thanks for commenting.
@@thedukeofmiddleville i don't think it's a bad offroader but you cannot compare it to a vehicle that has had important but simple offroad modifications. The concern is that when you say it's a GREAT off roader that's just enough confidence to get you into trouble. Even good offroad vehicle can get stuck and if you are 100 miles from a charging station and stuck in the sand or mud by the time you get it un- stuck its got no more Juice. This is a reality where I'm from. Not sure what offroading is like where you are from. Just my 2cents.
@@ammocan2021 Electric vehicles are much more efficient in low speed applications, such as city driving, traffic, and off-roading. In other words, the battery will last a lot longer off-roading than under normal driving conditions. One of the drawbacks of the Rivian is that it does not have rear lockers, but four 200 hp motors on each wheel does compensate for this.
