The Tubes out of san francisco via phoenix...they came over to london within months of the sex pistols "arrival" for some legendary shows where they declared they were the original punks.. " i was punk before you were a punk, you don't believe me just step at side and see me. " there is a live album from those shows which musically catches the essence ...and probably some SF Bay Area concert videos on Wolfgangs vault...they released some more commercial stuff in the eighties but the mid to late seventies stuff was incredible driven by the live shows....Fee Waybil, Quay Lewd in the video you watched, still plays some Stripped down shows. sic. around the US every year.
Favorite interview was one on WRKR in Kalamazoo. Fee told the story on how he got his Fee name. Also told the story that band mate who gave him the nick name was too stoned to make to band practice one day. Practice was in a garage that they had where they shared a house. That guy lived in the garage 😂
Young man, you and I discovered Band-Maid (Clang) at exactly the same time and I marked you down as one to watch, capable of spotting something special in a whole batch of reactions. And here we are again, but on my territory this time, from my own youth. The Tubes were outrageous, they looked like glam rock but they were also punk and musically very talented. This was the stuff we shocked our parents with! But it was also, as you spotted once you'd got into it, damn good! See you at the next musical masterpiece!
If you REALLY want a head trip, watch the old Olivia Newton-John movie XANADU, which features a VERY INTERESTING performance called DANCIN'. I won't speak more of it hear, but check it out.
And performances like this is exactly why the OGWT was ESSENTIAL late night viewing for any self respecting teenager !
This is a great band to see live.I could go into detail about Qua-Lude singing W.P.O.D. but I couldn't do it justice.
What Do You Want From Life is the funniest song ever.
A true classic
