6:55 - I think Clyde said his last name was "Ghostmonster" because in some versions of the Pac-Man arcade cabinet the Ghosts are referred to as "Monsters" rather than "Ghosts" So the writers just combined "Ghost" and "Monster" into a single name. Genius!
What I've heard (but I'm not 100% sure if it's true, but it makes sense) is that Atari called them "ghosts" because in their version the ghosts flickered and looked somewhat transparent.
This was a pleasant surprise, especially as a Pac-Man fan! The name ghost monsters is used in the cartoon since they're just monsters and not actual ghosts or spirits (except for the Ghostly Adventures TV series, but that's a whole other can of worms). The monster terminology was used for the original game in both Japan and the US, but their ghost-like appearance definitely got people to call them so (and of course, Atari helped to popularize that notion with their home versions). In fact, it was Atari that came up with the term "power pills" when the arcade English term was energizers (and eventually power pellets once the cartoon rolled around). The original Japanese term for them was "pawā esa", which pretty much means "power feed". So, Pac-Man is pretty much a barn animal who eats monsters rather than a pill-popper who eats the undead.
Is the word "esa" related to the German "essen"? Wouldn't surprise me because Japanese has quite a few odd German loanwords, but it might also be a coincidence.
