Calling Fuller a downgrade to Howard shows a complete lack of understanding outside of pass rating numbers. Howard played with one of the best pass rushes in the league and Fuller played with one of the worst. Fuller was also a much better tackler in space and is faster at this point in his career. It’s a push at worst and financially an upgrade since he cost far less.
I can't think of a comment I've ever agreed on more. X was mediocre last year. I don't know how much of the lacking secondary performance was due to Fangio but Howard is not the guy you can rely on anymore.
Robert Hunt might be our most impactful loss and he wasn't mentioned.

Connor Williams (also not mentioned) is way more of an impact, especially if you consider Eichenberg will be snapping... From the best Center in the league to the worst offensive lineman in the league.
Calling Fuller a downgrade relative to Howard is an interesting decision. He's 2 years younger, been injured less, is faster, and PFF has graded him substantially higher both of the last 2 seasons. In 2023, Fuller played nearly 300 more snaps (952 vs 667) and only committed 2 penalties while Howard committed 7.
Rather than death by numbers for individual games, I'll summarize grades as 70+ = good, 50-69.9 = decent, below 50 = bad, and denote the values separated by slashes, eg: 8/5/3 would mean 8 good, 5 decent, 3 bad games
Overall Defense:
Howard: 55.1 for season, 3/6/4
Fuller: 83.1 for season, 7/7/1
Run Defense:
Howard: 63.9 for season, 1/9/3
Fuller: 78.1 for season, 6/8/1
Tackling:
Howard: 52.9 for season, 6/1/4
Fuller: 86.0 for season, 11/3/1
Coverage:
Howard: 51.9 for season, 3/5/5
Fuller: 82.8 for season, 5/9/1
Note that Howard's game total for tackling grade only adds up to 11 games. This is not a typo: he wasn't involved in any tackling in week 12 or in his 4 snaps before leaving injured in week 17
Washington pass rush was the worst in the league. Any corner would look bad for them. Dolphins had a top 3 pass rush and you could tell X had lost a step.
@dolfan984 Wilkins helped us alot tho but I think zach sieler and Campbell will be good enough not as good as with Wilkins but they will do good

Well done. It would have been nice if you mentioned that they finished the year with 6 DEFENSIVE starters hurt. ( Phillips, Chubb, AVG, Baker, Howard and Goode) Plus Holland missed time and 2 OL starters hurt ( Wynn and C. Williams). Kind of a big deal.

Kendall Fuller is not a downgrade to replace X this point in his career. Hints as we see he is STILL a FA and probably will be the entire season. One of the best abilities is availability. This ain’t X of 3 years ago smh 🤦🏾♂️

Going 11-6 is never a bad thing, it's just what happens in the playoffs that matters
Their schedule seems pretty similar to last year, buncha easy games in the first half of the schedule but the contenders lie at the end of tthe chedule
Dolphins will have 12-14 wins. Everything depends on players staying healthy.
Chubb and Phillips may only play half a year. They are still injured and nobody knows when they will be back, and at what form.
The defense could be in trouble

There is no reason we should have let AvG go. The money he commanded was well worth it.
Fuller is by no means a downgrade to Howard. Even going off player rating/pff alone disputes that, let alone the eye test. Wilkins production can be replaced tbh. Only issues are Ginkle and Hunt replacements but that’s serviceable. The defense will be better than last year and the offense should be way more efficient with Jonnu and Beckham. It’s legit up to Tua and McDaniel to be better than last year.
I appreciate the charts with comparisons between last year's team and the new players. Very helpful.
As a Rams fan im genuinely excited & rooting for this team especially seeing Jalen Ramsey & OBJ back together plus they'll both get their return to LA on Monday Night. That should be a good game nonetheless

When did this narrator become a dolphin hater???? He got the 1st 2 replacement correct OBJ and Jonnu Smith UPGRADE but failed at the others. We will not miss Wilkins one bit. He was over rated and never performed when needed, he played well against the bad teams but horrible against the teams above .500. So Campell is technically and upgrade just need someone to stuff the middle D line to open the doors for Chubb and Phillips. Jordyn Brooks is a definite UPGRADE over Van Ginkel MLB. For safety Jordan Poyer is a definite UPGRADE over Brandon Jones/Elliot who both constantly came off the bench for each other because neither were consistently good. And last, but not least, but Kendall Fuller is a definite upgrade over Xavian Howard. Howard has been washed for the last two years. do they give anyone with a mic to narrate these days wake up. Miami made the playoffs last year with a bunch of backup players on defense. It’s a wrap this season 2024 Miami’s year. Upgrades everywhere.

U didn’t take into account a new defensive coordinator. Our last one was terrible running back zone schemes that gave up a lot of yards in the air. Example is the panthers and titans game. I’m sure it is an improvement w the talent we have on defense

You look at one stat, no context to the stat, and that's the basis of your rating this change in players. Try to find any regular analyst of the Dolphins that feels this is a downgrade - I'll be shocked if you find any. That's really a waste of time to mislead so many who don't know any better.

They are going to be probably missing both starting edge rushers to start the season, and relying on an aged vet and rookies to get you by, in a new scheme. Secondary still has questions, again, in a new scheme.
You lost your starting center and guard this year with no clear upgrade signed to replace them so you have questions there to. What can an aged OBJ do to help, completely unknown...
I think if anyone were being realistic, they wouldn't be expecting an improvement with all these question marks when they haven't even had training camp yet. I think your best bet is hoping there is no drop off. And if they are improved, you should be ecstatic
Edit: and I didn't even mention the loss of Wilkins with nobody close to his talent replacing him even if you combined all 17 DTs they signed this offseason.

There’s no way the Dolphins are good enough to beat the Bills at home but not the Jets too. Therefore, the ceiling should be 13-4, not 12-5. And I’m not even convinced that the Browns are talented enough to win that game either. But we’ll see what happens as the season progresses.
